I felt sophisticated and cool just being there - nice decor. The grilled halibut and pancetta wrapped figs were ok. Really liked the tender chicken kabobs, tasty eggplant, and crispy, delicate onion rings. It seemed like there was cilantro or some green herbs on most of the dishes we ordered. Great place for date night or group parties. I came here for a first date and it was a good pick on his part. The staff was patient with us and helpful in picking out a wine. We were so involved in our conversation that we didn't notice that the restaurant was closing around us and we were the only ones left - staff never tried to kick us out. As soon as I walked into Terzo, I knew I would have a fantastic dining experience - the atmosphere was airy, warm, and romantic, and our server was attentive and planned out the order of dishes at an easy pace. And the food was no less impressive. Everything we ordered deserved a rave - pita and hummus, grilled calamari, meatball, and braised chicken. Braised chicken is extremely moist and juicy with a distinct lemon and rosary flavor, as if it bathed in a rich soup and soaked up all the vapor and flavor. And kudos to their drink menu! I had the best Cabernet Sauvignon of this year, from "Kith & Kin Round Pond, Napa, to pair with the food. Their Italian flavored soda is a great alternative if you prefer to be sober while as the same time ecstatic. I would definitely return for my next special occasion! read more

Tapas is just another word for rip-off. The small portions and hefty prices add up to you leaving hungry. The plates seemed uninspired to me. Arugula salad lacked flavor. Asparagus just didn't sing the way it should. Halibut with garbanzo beans was ho-hum. The bread/naan with the hummus was delicious. I do love the design and atmosphere. Maybe this place is better for a glass of wine than an anemic meal. They also have a communal table which is a cool concept. read more

I rarely give a restaurant a rave review but this place surprised me in the spectacular flavor and variety of dishes. I went twice in a week and both times were excellent. I admittedly dislike tapas places as i always leave feeling as if i ate too much rich food. I felt that Terzo had a nice blend of simple dishes, clean/fresh vegetable choices and richer meat and seafood options. Although the food tasted complex, the ingredients spoke for themselves and the it did not feel like it was trying too hard. I would recommend everything as i have tried everything on the menu, however it did seem to change quite a bit from one evening to the next! I really like the ambiance, the music BUT as a party of two seated at the table it was hard to hear over the couples to either side of us. On my first visit I sat at the bar and it was far more preferable in terms of noise control! The service was great. I was very surprised...don't go without a rezzie unless you are early. read more

The wonderful boyfriend took me here for Friday night date night. I've walked by here a here a few times and always wanted to try it. Orin made a reservation and we were promptly seated when we arrived. Our waitress was very, VERY, friendly. She was uber cheerful and bared so much teeth every time she smiled, I had to suppress the urge to reach into my purse and rattle my Prozac bottle for affirmation. Terzo offers a selection of around 10 small plates and 5 large plates. After consulting our waitress, we decided to order 3 small plates and one big one. Yes, these little piggies were hungry! We ordered the baked zucchini blossoms stuffed with cheese, roasted squash topped with cheese, the bacon wrapped dates stuffed with cheese and the braised pork shoulder entree. Our food came in rapid succession. This was the first time that I've tried zucchini flowers and I loved it! The preparation was simple and light to let the freshness and quality of the ingredients to shine through. The stuffed flowers were topped with a little parsley and lemon to cut the creaminess of the ricotta. When I read roasted squash on the menu, I was expecting butternut squash, but it was actually zucchinis that arrived on the plate. The suckers were so tender, they were bursting! The cheese was a great addition, adding nuttiness and saltiness. The bacon on the dates were crispy and the cheese melted with the sweetness of the fruit. All three were winners. The pork shoulder was my favorite of the night. The meat was so tender, you could cut it with a fork. As with the other dishes, the chef showed restraint with the seasoning to let the ingredients speak for themselves. The mashed potatoes was silky and the wilted chard still had a bite to it. We were pretty stuffed at the end of the meal so decided to skip dessert. Terzo has wonderful atmosphere and definitely great for date night. The lighting is dim, the noise level is manageable and a fairly large wine selection. Very good night indeed. read more

Terzo's solid. The food is never short of great and you can always expect a full menu of apps, entrees and wine. Their meatballs, skirt steak, pork loin and beet salad are some of my favorites. Wine selection by the glass is good and the place is just around the corner from my apartment. Why don't I come here for dinner every week then? Not sure. Think it's the general aura of the place. Staff aren't all that friendly--not unfriendly per say--but generally they seem like they're just waiting for their shifts to end. Instead of speaking to the diners at the bar, the bartenders will just chat with other servers on the side. I've dined there a few times, and haven't gotten the feel that they care about me coming back. Not a big deal, but it just lacks the charm that other places nearby have, like Gamine, where the owners are always present and welcoming. Such a shame, it could be so great if it were more intimate. read more

I went to Terzo based on recommendations from other Yelpers. There is definitely a good vibe in the restaurant and for a Monday night the restaurant was hopping. Plates are very small for a party of 3 men and I would say that it is really just 3 bites worth of food. Expect to pay the same amount as you would pay for a night out eating sushi. Food quality were well prepared and is the gourmet version of your typical more gritty tapas dishes. Unfortunately, no dish really wowed me so we leave it a 3 stars for now. The kitchen I thought was a little slow but good for those who like to eat slow and drink wine. read more

Well - I'm quite torn on Terzo. Their food is EXCELLENT. Truly fantastic -- probably some of the best you can get in the Marina area. I particularly recommend the gnocchi, grilled calamari, beets and mushrooms with polenta. All are delicious. Unfortunately however, this is not a service oriented place. I came with a party of 10 people and we were sitting waiting to order for almost 15 minutes. Then, once our server arrived, she was a bit rude to us. To almost every question she answered "well it really just depends on what you want" - and then she got visibly annoyed with us for switching around our seats. To boot - they charged us a $40 surcharge for bringing our own cake! Seriously?! This was a festive birthday celebration - was that really necessary? No jokes. We made a reservation for 2115 on a Saturday night and they made us wait an extra 35 minutes until we were seated. Typically if this happens at a nice restaurant, they would compensate you with a little appetizer or something. This place didn't even bat an eyelash. NEGLECTFUL customer service!!!!! The only reason why I'm giving this place a 3 star is because the food was pretty good and the waiter was freaking awesome (I think his name was Ron or Rob). A friend and I had dinner there this past Saturday, having planned on going elsewhere, but having sat in my apartment having a couple of drinks. I have lived 1/2 a block from this restaurant for nearly a year, and have never been. What a mistake! I was missing something great! The ambiance was wonderful . . . very warm and cozy, yet spacious enough to have a good amount of tables. The service was friendly and knowledgeable . . . I love it when a server speaks of a dish about which you can tell they are genuinely passionate. We chose a bottle of a French Syrah blend, which was spicy, and much broader than you usually get for a digestible price point. They were out of the meatballs and the pork (not a big deal, since it was close to closing time) so we had three starters and a main. I am still thinking about the Ling Cod (which is what led me to come and write this). We also really enjoyed our calamari (not fried) panzanella, and the fig bruchetta. For our main, we shard the chicken over basmati rice. This was the dish that was so clearly loved by our waitress. She did not steer us wrong. It was divine. Not usually a dessert person, we were persuaded, as my friend and I had been speaking about fresh peaches, and there was a fresh peach cobbler. I do not regret those calories, even as I head to the Coit tower stairs today to burn it off. All in all, a treat. My Terzo experience was near perfect. Got a reservation on opentable, was seated right away (requested a seat in the front, so the tables are a little further away from eachother than in the back of the restaurant -- I prefer a bit of space and bar-style tables), and the service was friendly and very helpful. The wine by the glass list was extensive and both glasses I had were delicious. The food was tasty and the delivery was well timed-- can't speak for the meat dishes but the hummus, flat bread and carrot salad have me wishing I was going to eat there tonight. Get the carrots and the flatbread together -- perfect. And, they have Italian sodas on the menu! I love it when a restaurant has good non-alcoholic drink offerings. read more

I'm desperately in love with you and it's for the following reasons: 1) Valet parking = Awesomely convenient [especially factoring in how difficult it can be to secure a street spot in the Marina/Cow Hollow 'hood.] 2) Accepting a semi-last minute reservation request for what some might consider "late" on a Friday night for 6 beautifully dressed girls [coming straight from the Opera, I might add] ;-) 3) Funny-and-friendly-as-hell waitstaff. [Ahem, Willoughby, if you're reading this, you're amazing and I love you.] 4) Tremendously hip ambiance: brown leather couch-like benches, a working fireplace, soft candles a'flickering atop each table and oh-so-cool house music playing overhead. 5) DELICIOUS hummus [NOTE: I'm a certified hummus aficionado] and warm, authentic, bubbly pita bread. Holy garbonzo bean gods, I have entered chickpea heaven! 6) OH, and who can forget dessert! FREE dessert, that is. I'm so torn between giving this place 3 or 4 stars.... and here's why.. I'll start with the good. 3 reasons for 4 stars: 1) Clean, clean restaurant. Granted this place is brand spanking new, I love how it gives off such a clean, fresh, and cozy feeling. 2) Fresh, quality food. Everything was made with simple ingredients, but so delicious and flavorful. Highlights: Bruschetta: Served on crispy bread with thick slices of tomatoes and fresh basil. The special part was that it was topped with a fried egg. YUM! Chicken Spiedini: skewers with chunks of moist chicken, crispy bread cubes and onions 3) Perfect place for a LIGHT meal or snack. We left this place content. Not full or stuff. Definitely had room for dessert. 3 reasons for 3 stars: 1) Price. The price:portion ratio was definitely off. Each small plate was around $10-$13. You literally got 3 bites per dish. Between 3 girls, I only got one bite. =( 2) Menu selection: Although the food was fabulous, the menu was quite small. If you go with a group, you literally would have to order everything on the menu to have enough to eat. 3) Don't go here if you're starving. This place will not fill you up. Amazing food with an excellent selection for vegetarian palates as well. Terzo features great 'Mediterranean' food, with a truly diverse array of offerings seemingly 'themed' with Greek, Italian, and other regional specialties. The hummus & pita plate is a MUST order- and usually we wind up getting extra pita to finish off the generous heap of hummus. We've recently enjoyed their grilled asparagus, cheese plates, their meatballs and much more. The mahi mahi dish is typically on the menu and is a true winner as well. Honestly, everything we have ordered is really impressive and flavorful. This is a great place to share plates! The restaurant is in a fun and pretty corner within Cow Hollow, they have valet parking as needed, and the prices are reasonable. OMG....the food is so delicious. I had a girls night out. This place has great food and wine. I had a great chocolate mint tea instead and it came with a personal teapot! We got beets with sour cream and fresh dill, homemade pita bread that's chewy and soft with olive oil and hummus, crispy fried onions, truffle mushroom with polenta cake, calamari with pearl couscous, pork meatballs, and sunchoke soup. That was just the appetizers and so-called small plates. In truth, these small plates are pretty normal size! So I was full just off the appetizers. The other girls kept going with our shared two main entrees: porkloin and skirt steak. All so flavorful and juicy. Very filling. Then we had 2 desserts. Haha...apple crisp with vanilla ice cream and 3 different flavored scooped ice cream (toasted almond, mocha chip, and mint confetti). My fave was the mint confetti. So minty! I had an unexpectedly delicious and unexpectedly expensive meal here. The tapas were really tasty and unique, but damn those portions were small. If you come with more than one other person and the server throws down something you want on the table, be prepared to fight for it. The service was extremely attentive and honestly really stellar. From the moment we walked in we were completely taken care of and we didn't even have a reservation. The hostess, bar tender, and server all went out of their way to check in with us. Our server offered us wine samples and didn't rush our table at all. I was actually impressed with how knowledgeable she was with respect to the wine list and menu items, etc. The atmosphere is really cozy as well. Can I just say I love the fact that they have a bookshelf full of books? I don't know if anyone uses it, but it's pretty unique. I give them a star just for that. read more

A great spot to take a date or simply if you crave tasty mediternaneen food. Love the atmosphere! They have about 15 items on the menu and we tried about 8. There wasn't one dish I didn't enjoy. I have to give it up for the hummus and the olive oil brushed pita bread which was absolutely delicious as well as the roasted eggplant with red peppers. Came here with a friend around 7:30pm on Tuesday. We did not make reservation and good that the restaurant was not busy when we got there. The hostess and server were very friendly, welcome and helpful. However, it took forever for the food to come out. So took out one star here. 3 stars for the service. We have ordered: Roasted Peach Bruschetta - 3 Stars. Not too bad but came with one big piece, hard to share. The roasted peach was sweet and was good with the ricotta. Arugula Salad - 2 Stars. Nothing special. Very little walnuts (four little pieces) and goat cheese. Grilled Pork Loin - 4 Stars. My friend doesn't like the potato and they replaced it with corn, tomato and squash. I think that was even better than potato because it was more light and healthy. The pork was juicy and tender. Very good. We also wanted to order grilled calamari but too bad they did not have it that night. Overall, the food was ok but the wait of the food was too long. read more

Terzo was an overall quality experience. They have a great menu, including a large mix of small plates as well as bigger-sized entrees. It's a very intimate setting, great for a date or a small group catch-up. While the service was generally attentive and friendly, she wasn't terribly warm to over-chatty, which was appreciated. We went with another couple as well and everyone was eating vegetarian - at first glance, the menu didn't look to have too many vegetarian options, but between all of the small plates, there was more than enough to make us all comfortably full! They seem to rotate the menu seasonally and even monthly based on what's freshest. Everyone else at the table split a bottle of dry Riesling to complement the vegetables and they all seemed to like the flavor. Food - Beets and pickled onions served atop a creamy cheese sauce - The beets were roasted nicely so they didn't have too much of a "beet-y" flavor. When you got a whole forkful of everything together, the cool cheese paired well with the hearty flavor of the beet and the pickled onion. Hummus and za'atar bread - The za'atar had a great spice/pesto-esque blend on it. The hummus was your regular, run-of-the-mill hummus, but was a nice creamy addition to the top of the za'atar. Arugala salad - Very basic salad. Arugala mixed with nut and apple. Simple but a good combination of food and not overdressed. Roasted vegetables (brussel sprouts, potato, carrot) - These had a delicious sweet glaze on them. They were tossed in that and an olive oil and truly seasoned to perfection! Small toasts with burrata and shredded brussel sprouts - This was surprisingly good! A generous serving of burrata and warm/soft brussel sprouts. Upon first glance, the brussel sprouts looked like shriveled lettuce, but it was a great light texture and as it was sautéed, it really melted in your mouth. The combo of all three ingredients was relatively plain but packed a flavorful punch. Gnocchi - This had a sharp white cheddar taste. Again, it really melted in your mouth. It was tossed with a bitter green, which broke up the sharpness. It was perfectly shaped homemade little puffs. Mushroom and crispy polenta - The polenta had a nice pan fry to it and was topped with a variety of mushrooms. The mushrooms had been sautéed in what seemed to be a mix of olive oil (or butter) with a touch of cream. We ordered a second one of this - while it was light and airy it still had a bit of heartiness to it with the way the polenta was cooked. Spicy pasta with spinach and pepper - The waitress said the chef had offered to cook us a full-sized version of vegetarian pasta if we were interested. This was cooked in an olive oil and all of the vegetables were sautéed. There was a nice heat to it and while the pasta was simple, it was cooked to a great texture between al dente and being too soft. Bread pudding - This was great - almost like a cinnamon bun wrapped into bread pudding - was such a treat! Had cherries cooked throughout for an added touch of sweet/tartness. It was topped with what they called whipped cream, but it almost had the consistency/taste of a marshmallow fluff on top, which spread out perfectly over the bread pudding. It was really terrific! Trio of ice creams - Another very simple thing done very well. Small scoops of ice cream (mint chocolate chip, chocolate and salted caramel) that again seemed to be made in-house. You could really taste the flavor in each (mint chocolate chip tasted like a girl scout thin mint), and we enjoyed these too. read more

The staff was friendly enough and the environment cozy but the food was nothing special. The waiter suggested the chicken, figs, and halibut. I ended up ordering the halibut and figs. The halibut was served with garbanzo beans and tasted similar to the dozen other times I have ordered halibut. Simplicity is fine and actually welcome but this ended up being nothing but average. However, the figs wrapped with prosciutto were great! Although a bit greasy (understandable given the ingredients) there was definitely flavor to this dish, unlike the halibut. Average food bordering on good usually will warrant 3 stars. However, I have to deduct a star because of the dessert. I ordered the Midnight cake which came with a small side of coffee ice cream. The cake tasted like the prepackaged ones at Safeway. I wanted to ask someone, "Wow, did you bake this yourself?" However, this was a restaurant and not some house party. So, I was unimpressed. Given the number of high reviews listed I will probably given it another shot. On another note, there is only one communal table, not two. Beside the communal table is a wall mirror which they keep spotlessly clean. While I was waiting at the bar I kept seeing the reflection and wondering why the hell they had two communal tables. read more

Boring food, sucky staff, it makes me sad to be in this place. I won't give a place a bad review if I've only been there once (which I suppose puts me squarely in the top 1% of yelpers in the benefit-of-the-doubt category - just sayin), but I've been to this place twice with my mom and once for snacks at the bar, and hoo boy it just blows it all over town. Seems like a bunch of people had a good time, so I won't waste your time with griping, but Terzo (much like Absinthe) has just screwed me too many times. Bartender was hostile and defensive, server weirded me out, and I swear I saw one of the waitresses start to cry over at the bus station cuz the other servers were getting all Mean-Girls on her. Surprise me with a date night, I asked. Meet me on the corner at Geary and Kearny at 6pm, he says. We meet at the bus stop and take the 45 cross-town. A colorful route from Fidi through C-town, North Beach, Washington Square and ultimately to the Cow Hollow. The adventure continued upon entering Terzo. Small plates, huge flavors. Hummus was a recommend. Really? I make my own. How can it be different? The sesame chapati-esque pita dusted with za'atar with a schmear of olive oil unlocked a different dimension. Then quickly, it became Yes to the rest. Grilled chicken spiedini (gremolata, I love you). Fava Bean bruschetta with leeks and ricotta (not salty, refreshing and light). Grilled calamari over broad beans (the most tender). Day boat scallops over asparagus and spring peas (wow, here is spring in a bowl). Wine List is lengthy. Rubico 2007. Awesome. Dessert could not be skipped. Strawberry crostata. Fresh mint infused tea was amazing. Service was the best. I think we definitely have a new go-to for date night or otherwise. read more

The people in there are all sooooooooooooo fun and nice....i guess i'm going thru a phase where i'm finally meeting some nice and "welcoming" waiters/waitresses. yipppeee for me! Anyways, we just so happened to be sitting next to the owner that night and she told us exactly what were the best sellers on the menu and they were all yummy! i highly recommend the halibut...the chicken, their beef..and don't forget their crispy onions....but bear in mind these dishes are all quite small...so if you have a larger party..you might want to order another one if it's not enuf....but don't order too much cuz u have to save room for dessert...their almond cake with strawberries were amazing! I went to Terzo for the second time last night w/ a group of girlfriends after the opera and fell in love w/ this restaurant all over again. While "Terzo" means third in Italian, this restaurant is now #1 on my list of favorite neighborhood places. From the exposed brick walls and dimly lit NYC style decor to the lively groups enjoying their meals, this place has it all. We ordered nearly one of everything on the menu, but a few stood out. While the larger plates like the snapper in parchment paper were beautifully displayed, I preferred the smaller plates. The hummus and warm pita bread along with the baked goat cheese were delicious. And the 3 bottles of Presecco helped it all go down so smoothly. Just as stellar as the food was our waiter...Williby, we love you!!! Yay! Another great restaurant in the Marina/Cow Hollow area that competes with A16! Can't believe it has taken me so long to get here. If I would have had any idea it would have been this great, would have been here months and months earlier. Beautiful, hip, happening, but still able to have a good conversation ambiance. Service was good...they offered great suggestions, cleared plates in a timely manner, and timed the shared items to come out so that we never had more than 2 at a time. We shared numerous small plates and an entree: fava beans, mussels, asparagus, grilled artic char and lamb shoulder, We shared a bottle of red that was recommended by the server..excellent and for 1/2 price Sun-thurs (Bargain!). I think it was the Rioja?? Fava bean dish was quite small, tasty, but I wouldn't rave about it. Asparagus was...really good simply prepared asparagus. The mussels were absolutely divine...I think the best I have ever had (I eat mussels a fair amount). The server had recommended them as being "particularly good" that evening, and they were! (they put Plouf's to shame!) Artic char was simply, but deliciously prepared with a pesto of some sort and the lamb shoulder was obviously slow cooked and incredibly tender. We enjoyed high quality coffee and a ginger cake that was the dessert special for the evening. I would highly recommend this spot if looking to dine in a more sophisticated spot in the Cow Hollow/Marina area. I love Terzo! Everything from the atmosphere and service to the food and wine. I've been here four times (all within the last 3 months) and the food has been consistently good. The first two visits, we had the same super friendly server. She remembered what we ordered the last time (pry not from memory but instead a good POS system. But kudos to her for using it to provide good customer service). I have too many good things to say about the food so I'll just highlight my favorites. Anything with polenta in it is good (I'm usually not a fan of polenta, but i love it here). Braised chicken thigh was delish. Wild mushroom appetizer super flavorful. Fresh mozzarella was freaking amazing (i know, it's just cheese! but it melted in my mouth). Lastly, desserts are a must here (try something with the chocolate mint tea!). Usually I find desserts at restaurants to be "just okay." They're either good, but uninspiring, or they're creative, but not so tastey. Terzo's desserts are comforting. Amazing Mediterranean menu, top notch service and family atmosphere. Neighbourhood gem

Came in for dinner on a friday and there was no wait, though we got seated by the bar which we did not mind because it was cozy and comfy. Shared a plate of the roasted beets which was delicious and also the salmon dish was amazingly delectable. For drinks we ordered a glass of carianne wine and balckberry italian soda. Probably the most fantastic place for Tapas! Why did I not give it 5 stars? The service. We arrived right on time for our 8:30pm reservation on Thursday night. The place was busy not every table was full. We waited for a good 10 minutes for out table. Is that weird? And there were others waiting as well - so this wasn't just a "we don't like you so we're going to have you stand awkwardly for a few minutes before we seat you" type of a deal. Although I have to say, the service once we sat down was fabulous! It is super romantical - my specialty when it comes to picking restaurants. I need to work on that... sometimes it just isn't appropriate :P But overall the food was great! We had the arugula salad, the chicken skewers, and the fried mozzarella thing. Man. I wish I remembered what the names were! Then we shared the pasta and the steak. We then shared the chocolate pot de creme. I think I like Townhall's better... but this one was very decadent, so still very good! The flavors were excellent! WAY better than my last tapas experience. And the best part, is the 1/2 off wine Mondays - Thursdays! They'll even cork and wrap it up for you if you don't finish it! Parking is hard to find in this area, but worth the drive and adventure. Went to this new joint a couple of nights ago with some girlfriends. Aside from the fact that my friend to the right was dealing with a major illness in her family and my friend to the left was in the midst of a nervous breakdown (and when I say "in the midst", I mean tears streaming down her face while sitting at the bar at Terzo), I remained optimistic about enjoying my meal - and hopefully, eventually, my company. We sat at the bar because there were no seats available - and because, quite frankly, we really wanted to put the apparent misery of our company on full display for all other patrons. There is a small tapas selection, which was good (we had the spanish cheese and quince and the tortilla); though I do wish that some restaurant/bar in SF would actually do a tapas bar the right way with toothpicks and napkins on the floor and such, but I digress . . . The menu is very small. This is not a place to come if you are very hungry, but it is a great place for three chicks to enjoy a lite meal and some vino. We had the halibut, the chicken, and the lasagna. The halibut was fantastic and the lasagna was really good as well - really thinly sliced layers. Good wine list. I also liked the ambiance of the place. And, this neighborhood definitely needs more good dining options outside of pizza chains and bar food. If I could give it a 3.5, I would have. I will definitely be back. . . . hopefully, with less drama. read more

This was my first visit to Terzo. I was able to make a reservation on OpenTable for a Saturday night. We were promptly seated by a gracious hostess. We were seated in the small room in the back, which was great, since we wanted to talk and the front room was so noisy. Someone took drink orders and our waiter, Willoughby, came to explain the menu which is all small plates. My gay friend from Dallas started flirting with the waiter. He smiled, told us he was straight and never missed a beat. He continued to be charming and helpful. He recommended about 8 plates for the three of us. We ended up ordering nine plates and everything was delicious. The crispy onions, similar to onion rings, were made with red onions. They were great, but didn't come with a dipping sauce. The Chicken Spiedini was fabulous and was served on a skewer. The tab for the food for three people came to about $90, but we were satisfied and thought it was well worth it.
