I had A-1 Heating and Cooling look at my AC system. The A-1 technician turned on my AC and proceeded out to look at the unit, he noted the fan was not turning. He wanted $1600 to replace the fan, and additional $3300 to replace the compressor. He then went on to pressure me to buy a new AC system for $5500. I didn't trust the A-1 technician and told him I want a 2nd opinion. I called TFF HVAC to come out. The Tony came out, removed the service panel and immediately told me its was the capacitor. These guys are the best! I called them to inspect my HVAC ductwork in my crawlspace because I suspected there was a leak in it that was pulling smells into my bedroom. The guy that came by did find a leak in the ducting and replaced it, but at the same time, he also noticed the ground seemed too damp to be normal and poked around in the dirt and realized the damp dirt was around the sewer line. He advised me to have a plumber come check it out, so I did. The plumber found out the sewer line was broken and leaking water. This was a huge relief, as the TFF employee was the 5th person (and third company) I had go into my crawl space to help figure out where the weird smell was coming from. But, he was the first person to care enough to actually look around more than the single job he was being paid to do (in this case replacing the ductwork), and finally found the root cause of my issues. Tony is the best and so is his crew. Good as it gets! They replaced a 47 year old home furnace. Tony and his 2 man crew arrived at 8:00am on Saturday. Tony did a walk through with his crew. Unloaded the new furnace and supplies. 8:00am start and by 11:30am the old furnace was uninstalled and the new furnace was up and running. Courteous, Clean, Fast and Efficient. What more could you ask for. They put plastic on the carpet and hardwood floors and took the old furnace away. Great price too. Give him a call you will be happy with his work. read more

Summary: Just call TFF and get your HVAC done! Tony and Heidi are your friends in this business. They're not in the business to screw people around, and really take care of you like a friend. Regarding the poor reviews, I think those people are just too difficult to please. You give them the whole world, they are still capable to complain about it. Chill out... In detail: Bought my first home in late 2008, and didn't realize there were so much work to do with old house. Project list was #1 Bath room and overall fix up, #2 Kitchen, #3 Yard, #4 Furnace with new duct work. It was a rusty wall furnace, my contractor removed it during home remodeling, but I didn't have the budget to install new Furnace with duct work. For 6 yrs, we completed #1 and #2 projects, and our family lived without furnace, but using electrical heaters. Over the years, it was quoted $4k~$15k from Sears, Homedepot, Bryant contractor, craigslist handy man, Yelp 5 stars companies. After meeting with Tony from TFF in late 2013, he showed his knowledge and his flexibility to deal with multiple odd jobs for this project. I was ready to start the project, but still trying to get my yard done before the HVAC project. Until this year, I realize my yard project will not be done any sooner, so I decided to get the HVAC done. So, I emailed to Heidi from TFF, and they adjusted the quote accordingly to my needs. I almost gave the job to a Bryant contractor that referred from my friend. That was a close call, since the Bryant contractor provided very attractive price, and it was tough to beat. TFF was willing to work around with my budget (still higher), but I know I can trust Tony, so they took the project. We always hope things will go perfectly, that's not how our world works. They took 2.5 days to finish the installation for the Furnace, AC, new duct work, electrical stuff. Although, the city inspector came to my place 3 times for various items. It was not TFF's fault, sometimes, you do get surprises, one after another. People can always complain little things here and there. With their integrity and ethics, they will continue to be successful in this business. Overall, it was a good experience to deal with Tony, Heidi, Jason, Jose Chavez, Jose ?. I had TFF HVAC remove and replace my asbestos covered ductwork, as well as install a new air return. Heidi was super responsive via e-mail and made coordinating the whole process very easy. She coordinated with the abatement company to get the old ductwork removed on the day before the install, and also coordinated with the city to help get a permit. On the day of the install, Tony showed up and explained exactly what would be done. His crew was friendly and did a great job - they finished early, patched up the walls, and left the house in a clean state. This review is solely based on the initial contact with TFF and not their service/products. My fiancé found TFF on Yelp and he scheduled an appointment with them at 10:30am today. Unfortunately, another contractor got their schedules mixed up and arrived 3 hours earlier than planned and we asked TFF to wait. This was totally our fault and we accept responsibility here as we should have honored our appointment time with TFF but we were thrown off by how early the other general contractors arrived. We recognize that their time is valuable we later on apologized profusely. Tony, the owner, texted my fiancé and stated that he could not do business with us because of our error. He was professional about it but we are human and we messed up. It seems that Tony does not believe in giving people second chances. If Tony had left it at that, we would have understood. However, my fiancé called him back immediately and was apologetic and Tony dropped a couple of subtle but extremely petty and unprofessional comments on the call. 1. Tony said he is "not dying for more business," so he "respectfully" declined our job. This was such an unnecessary and rude comment... and just because he "respectfully" declined the job doesn't make what he said respectful. 2. Tony told my fiancé that he shouldn't see a bad review for this. This sums up Tony's unprofessionalism in a nutshell. After this ordeal, I went through all the one star reviews and Tony's replies are reflective of the petty and catty responses we received from him. I don't write many reviews but we were so disappointed with our experience with TFF that I was compelled to give everyone a heads up of what dealing with TFF may be like. read more

Tony is all you could hope for. We called him one hot day when our AC just wouldn't cool the house. He came over, checked out the system and told us what we needed to do to fix it. He gave us a quote to reduct the house (an old house not set up for AC) and suggested some other options that would improve the comfort in our house. We decided to delay doing the work but when we called him back 2 months later he honored his quote, scheduled the work within 2 weeks and turned up on time. The work was completed quickly and Tony and his team left my house cleaner than they found it. He made sure, once the job was finished, that we were totally happy and we are. These guys are awesome! Last week heard a water dripping noise in the attic when AC was running. Went upstairs & sure enough the drip pan was overflowing with water. Somehow the main drain pipe has become dislodged, it looks like the people who installed the unit forgot to put PVC glue on it. Still, wanted to make sure there's no other leaks in the unit since I haven't had maintenance since I bought it 3 years ago. Called a few 4/5 stars HVAC companies & Tony gave the best quote and he's the highest rated also... no brainer! Sean came the next day at 12pm sharp.. took a look upstairs, confirmed the issue and fixed it. He noticed that the drip pan wasn't hooked up to the overflow pipe and he fixed that also. As a bonus, he also replaced the air filter & gave me some good tips on basic AC maintenance, like replacing filter every month during summer and every 3 months in the winter. About 6 months ago I had TFF replace my furnace and AC unit, in addition to redoing my ducting, and installing a new smart thermostat. Tony and his team did a great job. I am very content with the effort and diligence that Tony put into fixing our furnace. TFF installed our furnace three years ago and it stopped working yesterday. I called him at 7:40 am and he arrived promptly at 8. He immediately noticed the error code from the unit and replaced a blown fuse. He offered to go an extra mile and replaced the wiring from the thermostat just to make sure that the wire is not shorting. But best of all, he benevolently made the service free of charge! WARNING: After I wrote my review below on Yelp last week, Tony (owner of TFF) has harassed, threatened, and bullied me by calling me 8 times, sending 1 text message, and sending 2 emails. His threat to me was that if I do NOT remove this Yelp review, he would report alleged un-permitted AC work at the house. Wow - and enough said. If you're reading this review, I'll let you decide the character of the business owner. -- BEWARE. Please read the other 1-star yelp reviews to understand the possible issues or treatment you could get before proceeding with this vendor. Personally, I am astounded by the great reviews on Yelp compared to my experiences with Tony.  My experience in one word... was beyond "awful" in customer service. Have you ever experienced a vendor making a mistake, then blaming it on you, yelling at you for being upset about the mistake and miscommunication, and telling you they are not going to do the work for you so that they can teach you a lesson or two about life??? In terms of my story, I contacted TFF HVAC a few weeks back regarding a dryer vent pipe replacement project. Tony sent an estimator to the home to look at the problem so that I can be provided with a quote. The estimator took some photos and gave it to Tony. Tony or Heidi emailed me a quote/contract. I called Tony to clarify the project approach & contract to make sure we were on the same page. I shared that I would like to install a dryer vent box and I asked Tony to confirm the size of the box I should order - a 2x4 or a 2x6. Tony said 2x4. I said ok. When I went online to order the box, many folks reported issues with fitting a 4 inch pipe through a oval hole of the 2x4 box. To be cautious, I consulted with Tony via email about this concern. Heidi, in lieu of Tony, responded via email "Tony asked that you pls order the 2x6". I replied "Sure, I will order the 2x6 then." Tony and his crew showed up on our scheduled date. When he arrived, Tony said that he doesn't recommend going with the agreed approach we discussed about as part of the contract. He said 2 other alternate approaches were better. I didn't understand and couldn't picture what he was recommending so I asked for more clarification. I could tell that Tony started to get frustrated by the questions being asked and that he wasn't getting his way (which was to accept his recommendation without more questions). In my view, this conversation should have happened much earlier. Problem was: Tony sent an estimator and took photos, but the estimator was inexperienced and the photos did not illustrate what Tony needed to know. So, Tony had to change the approach/strategy on the day-of. Tony instructed his crew to check the spacing of the wall to confirm whether there was enough space to fit the 2x6 dryer vent box I purchased. His crew started to work as instructed, but Tony lashed out at them and said "NO! That's not how you do it." He rudely took the measuring stick from them and proceeded to demonstrate his superior skills. He confirmed that it would not fit a 2x6 dryer vent box and berating me why I didn't listen to his original instructions to purchase the 2x4. I said I confirmed over email and his wife (Heidi) on behalf of him asked me to change it to 2x6 at final confirmation. I, then, got upset for being blamed for ordering the wrong product, wasting $50, and pushed back that the error was due to miscommunication on the part of his wife. Instead of apologizing for a mistake made in error by his wife, he began to yell and lash out at me for 10-15minutes. He yelled at me for being a complaining customer, who has a bad attitude, blame-shifts others, and changes my mind on things. Getting a hint quickly (perhaps from many prior experiences I gathered), his crew immediately and quickly started to pack up without hesitation and any questioning or drop of a word. Tony, then, tore up the contract right in front of me to prove his point. While they packed, to pacify the situation to get the job done, I pleaded Tony that I'll accept the fault for ordering the wrong product and apologized for getting upset and wrongly placing blame on his wife. I pleaded with him that I promised family friends that I would get the job done for them over the weekend and for him to consider completing the work as we have already spent so much time on it. I said I'm fine with whatever he recommended or changed and will go along with the plan. He said 'I am not going to waste time on customers like you. I am having my crew leave so that you can learn a lesson or two about life and get your attitude adjusted. ALSO, I KNOW YOU WILL LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW ON YELP, BUT YOUR REVIEW WILL NOT MATTER BECAUSE I HAVE HUNDREDS OF OTHER REVIEWERS TO OFFSET YOUR REVIEW' Wow!!! Speechless and in tears. Had these guys out to replace my ducting. The process from beginning to end was phenomenal. When they came and did the work they realized I was missing a line and handled it no problem. It is very hard to find a quality HVAC company. These guys made sure what I was looking to get done was done In a timely manner. They also managed asbestos removal as well. Tony came to give us a quote. It seems pretty obvious that I would choose him for our new HVAC installation based on all the good reviews. I found him very talkative and not listening well. Through my questions, I was planning the design of HVAC. He constantly diverting to different irrelevant subjects and I needed to bring him back to main subject. I continued to work with him. Through the final adjustment of the plan for installation, he suddenly revoked and canceled the business without any proper reasoning. On the other hand, that ends up as a good thing for us, because we called on Sandium and started working with Sandium, which honestly I could not imagine any company can come close to them. What can I say about TFF? In two words, they ROCK! To recap, in April 2016 we hired them to replace our aging central heating, air conditioning and duct work. Not only were they prompt and efficient as well as friendly and helpful. Even the city inspector was impressed by the quality of their work. The only minor glitch was trying to relight the pilot on the water heater. Tony came out the very next day and relit it. He even went above and beyond by helping us install a new toilet "guts ". He didn't have to do that but was gracious enough to help out. Talk about customer service! Fast forward to this past Wednesday. The AC was really struggling to keep up with the increasing heat. Even though it was after normal business hours, I fired off an email to Heidi asking for a service call. Knowing they would be really busy with the upcoming heat wave, I figured I would at least make the request hoping to get something in the following week. Heidi, being her usual prompt self, responded within the hour. She indicated that yes, they were super busy but would try to fit us in somehow. The next day, Thursday, she said Tony would squeeze us in on Friday between 8:30 am and noon. Tony actually got here just after 8:00 am. Good thing I was up early and dressed Less than 10 minutes later he determined the unit just needed recharging. Israel came by about 2:15, checked the pressure, tested for leaks, recharged the unit, tested again, and we were good to go! Israel is a member of Tony's crew and he rocks too! Go figure, our 60-year old furnace decided to give up on us on the coldest day registered in San Jose this year. Not knowing who to hire, we went on yelp for ideas. Based on yelp reviews, I called over 3 different companies from yelp and got a couple referrals from neighbors. TFF was one of the companies I called. In the initial screening process, TFF didn't necessary stood out to me because not only Tony was the last that returned my call (I found out later that they are swarmed with 60 calls a day and are still catching up. Considered that, I'm pleasantly surprised that Tony called me back the next day); I actually also didn't get to meet Tony in our initial appointment because he was a little bit late to our appointment and I cannot wait. At the end since none of the referral pane out schedule wise for us and the rest all have the similar availability, we decided to TRUST yelp reviews (Hate to say it, yelp have steer us wrong before), and took a leap of faith with TFF. I am so glad we did that! I met Tony and his crew on the day of install. He is this nice gentle giant (He is very tall) that seemed very caring, competent and professional. He explained to me how long it'll take, when the inspection is scheduled,... His crew went right to work. The lead guy reminded us to turn off our computers before he start turning some of our breakers off. After install, I heard the crews calling each other to thoroughly test out the system to make sure it works and clean up the area. Before they left, the lead guy also gave me a head up telling me there should be no problem with inspection, but once a while the inspector do discover something. If that happens, they'll come right out and fix it and make sure same thing won't happen again. (Very professional and real) When I finally checked my e-mail, I also found Heidi's e-mail reminding me about our inspection tomorrow. Now, that's end-to-end great customer service. Anyway, the warning ended up was not needed. The inspector came the next day; he examined our install, checked all the wires and even took out his measuring tape to measure the flutes. He was very pleased to see what Tony's crews have done. He actually told me in satisfaction that they did a great job and I hired a very good company. Overall, I'm glad I got to meet great people like Tony, Heidi and their crews through this experience. I contacted Tony for the first time over the phone, and explained that my air conditioning wouldn't start and that my Ecobee unit was non-responsive. He asked to check a couple of simple things (like is it plugged in, turned on, etc). He also asked to me check the fuse on the heater control circuit board. While we talked a little bit, he also explained to me how the power failure could be occurring. Based on what he told me, I was able to find and replace the fuse (which had burned out) on the circuit board. A few minutes after that I was able to get the air-conditioning functional. Kudos and thanks to Tony for being willing to talk to me about my HVAC situation. His demonstrated competence over the phone and his calm demeanor instead of trying to sell me a service call means that he will be on my short list of people to call when I have another HVAC emergency. Tony is great. But the worker under him has problem. The key point is that my heater has no problem, but they said some circuit was bad and had to change the whole board there. After they left, I tested myself, the heater works no problem. I am not sure if this is a cheating or a lack of capability to diagnose. I would rather believe it was the former. They quoted the parts as $150. And I called back to Tony, he said $80 - $125. I understand that people make some money by re-selling the parts. But I believe this has nothing to do with business re-selling, but he wanted to put some money in his own pocket, tipping himself. Anyway, the feeling is very bad. I would give one start if not Tony's good communication. Thank you Tony, but sorry I am really not satisfied with what your team did here. read more
