I love their steamed fish, event though it is $15 it is worth the wait (40 minutes). It has been my favorite place to eat with my parents and family since i was little. The food is the closest thing to Lao culture. Best thing to get is the steamed fish and the papaya salad (mild or spicy). read more

Amazing food! Don't be afraid to order "hot" or "very hot;" the level of spice is Americanized. We ordered beef yum, pad thai, and started with "golden bags" as an appetizer. This is the best Thai restaurant in Indianapolis. I've also traveled all around the world and would rank Thai Orchid as one of the top Thai restaurants in the country. I've been to Thailand as well and would say their food is very authentic (not like your typical American, Chinese food, which is nothing like authentic Chinese food). I can't pick just one favorite dish. I really enjoy all of their curry dishes. The tom kha is also excellent, and perhaps the best I've ever had. On top of that, the service is exceptional. We are regulars and always get treated very well. The owner comes out and makes sure to make our visits personal by asking us how we're doing. This is our favorite Indy area restaurant. First time trying Thai Orchid and I have to say I'll probably try it again. The atmosphere is nice and quiet. The service was good. I'm a stickler for cleanliness and believe that you can tell how clean the kitchen is by how clean the bathroom is and this was the one downfall. Not only did the bathroom seem a little nasty, now granted, I've seen worse, it just appeared to be in need of a good cleaning. As well, the glass doors and windows didn't appear clean either. This always puts a damper on my dining. Again, I've seen worse, to the point that I wouldn't eat in a place. But this was just on the verge for me. So, we went ahead and gave it a try. We started with the dumplings and liked them. They also brought us out cole slaw and it was pretty good, nice and light, not mayonnaisey. For our entree's, we had the Pad See Ew with Chicken. This is a reply to the owner of Thai Orchid (since there doesn't seem to be any other way to reply). The dish I tried was duck in red curry sauce (or some kind of duck dish). The duck was right on the verge of being rotten and unsafe to eat. Duck must be fresh and doesn't have nearly the shelf life of chicken, especially if it's been sitting around uncovered at room temperature. The rice was dry. The server was busy for over twenty minutes mopping up a toilet overflow in the ladies room that had seeped out into the hallway, and didn't wash her hands when she finally returned to the table and I asked to see the manager. Twenty more minutes and no manager or server. I dropped a twenty dollar bill on the table so I couldn't be accused of theft and left immediately. On another note, someone with the screen name "Ratcha M." is claiming to be a server at Thai Orchid and posted a review of your restaurant. That would be grounds for immediate termination at any restaurant I owned. Normally I would come in and give a second chance, but the situation in that restaurant is just way over the top. I'm surprised someone hasn't become gravely ill from what is being served there. read more

We have never been here for dinner, just for lunch. We absolutely love this place! Came here for dinner last night after working a 13 hour shift. It was not quite 8pm and it was rather quiet. There were about 7 other tables being utilized. We were both craving chicken Pad Thai so that is what we ordered. The waiter was super nice and outgoing. Our water glasses never once got empty. Our food did take a little while to come out but when it did it was hot and incredibly fresh. We were able to sit and enjoy the delicious food with out being rushed. They have a pretty extensive menu to choose from. I have quite a few different items that I thoroughly enjoy. My absolute favorite is the Pas See Eww (not sure if that's the correct spelling or not). The lunch special is very nice. With your order, you get your main entree with a spring roll as well as a small side salad. And the price is very reasonable. My suggestion is that if you are wanting to try Thai, this is the best place! I recommend this place to anyone and everyone! read more

Not the best experience! I've been here several times during lunch and really enjoyed the food. Not so great for 5pm dining. I've noticed every time I dined here the restaurant seems damp and a touch of a mold smell. Regardless the noodle soup is usually tasty, tonight it was just ok. Jeff had Orange Chicken (he's not into thai flavors but sweet enough to fulfill my requests) he is now a little on the sick side of life. I guess he got a little bit of food poisoning and now saddled with a head ache. Ugh!! Poor guy! I don't think we will be back! And I was looking forward to the small taste of coconut soup they used to serve for an appetizer instead they serve (to me) a yummy slaw Jeff on the other hand did not like it at all. I used to love Thai Orchid but the last 4-5 times I have noticed a significant difference in the food. My fried rice was very dry and bland. Not like how it used to be. The pad Lee Mao noodles were not as tasty either. It used to be perfect and had a great char on the noodles giving it a smoky flavor but recently has been very bland and average. Not sure what happened, but i suspect they have a new chef because the food does taste different! I'm really sad to say I will be looking for a new Thai restaurant in town. read more

I stumbled upon the Thai Orchid thanks to a mail flier, and I am so glad that I did! I love Thai food, especially chicken pad thai, and Thai Orchid has quickly become my go-to for chicken pad thai. Most recently I tried their chicken satay, and it was delicious. I liked the peanut sauce it came with too. I really appreciate that when you order the food "mild" or "hot", it's spiced appropriately; plus the food is a great price for the amount you get. Can't wait to come back! read more

Best Thai food in Indy so far !!! Thai peanut salad which is given as a starter was delicious! All the coconut curries are good... Fried rice, cashew chicken and spring rolls are good too! Been here several times and only ever order their vegetarian red curry, it is very delicious! They say they use fish sauce in their curries but if you order it vegetarian then they make it vegan, so that is huge for me. The salad that comes with dinner is very flavourful. As a native Thai - I would recommend this restuarant. The food is pretty authentic and not the sweeten chinese dishes. Since I work in the Castleton area, I go there for lunch often and has not been disappointed yet. From what i can tell, there's at least two different cooks there and since everything is made to order, your food can have slight variation in spiciness and taste from day to day. Their lunch special for $6.99 is a great deal for the amount of food you get. The wait staff and owner are friendly and the service is great. Why 4 stars? We have eaten at this place for 4-5 times now. No complaints about the food - Its grt! But the service is awful , esp during dinner time. We have noticed it twice now - all the staff is driking while working. They all have their drink at the main counter and keep drinking ( wine, beer, beverages) while talking on phone (with speaker on!! ). This is highly unprofessional! It would still have been ok , if they would have paid attention to the customers as well. At both dinner times we had to wait for them take order, then for refills and then for the checks! Let me clarify that we are pretty mild customers - dont sweat over minor things. But this has happened twice with us. On top of that one of the waiteress was rude to us. One more thing that happened at this place was that we were overcharged $5 as tip while we had not given that much! It was infuriating! I Looooove Thia Orchid! I am a vegetarian so sometimes its hard to find a place to eat that has options for vegetarians. This place nearly has a vegetarian version for almost every dish and you can choose how spicy you want whatever you order to be. I have had Thia food at a few other places and it always seems bogged down with grease and it bothers my stomach but Thai Orchid tastes a lot fresher and lighter. I don't know if they have any other locations besides the one on Bash St. but the customer service is awesome there. The waitresses are very friendly and the manger/owner always makes it a point to come out and personally check to see if you are satisfied with your meal and your glass never gets empty. It is always very clean inside and the decorations are very rich and colorful and it makes you feel warm and cozy plus they always have really soothing music playing. I looove this place!! read more
