Everything I order from this place is consistently tasty and flavorful. The corn fritters are good, curry fried rice is delicious and extremely flavorful. However, some of the expected ingredients were not there and I wish they would have told me before I took my food to go. I do not understand the love for this place. As a somewhat recent transplant to Seattle I am on the lookout for great carryout options. This restaurant was given rave reviews and close to home - had to try it. I am not exaggerating when I say this is the worst Thai food I have ever had. Thai food should be flavorful, this was incredibly bland even with the spice levels at medium and high. It just was a bunch of bland meat and flavorless vegetables. We did carryout thank God, because I could not stomach the interior of the restaurant. It felt dirty. There's so much crap hanging up with piles of dust. It looks like it hasn't had a real scrubbing in years. Blech. The area around the kitchen and cashier were also dirty looking with a film of grease. Very unappetizing. Usually I would give a restaurant two tries before giving a bad review but there is no way I am subjecting myself to this place again. How I heard of this place: My friend Sadiq first introduced me to Thai Siam nearly a decade ago. It immediately became one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Seattle, with Thai-level-spicy, delicious food! Type of cuisine: Authentic Thai cuisine served with as many local ingredients as are available to create the dishes. For our dinner, we ordered family style and enjoyed the Phad See-Iw ($8.95) of thick rice noodles with tofu in a special soy bean sauce, served with broccoli and bean sprouts; Dressing Rama ($9.95) with tofu served over spinach and bean sprouts, topped with peanut sauce; and the Vegetable Curry ($9.95) including a variety of vegetables served in a green curry. Jasmine rice was served alongside our dishes. What I loved: It was a difficult decision, as every dish was as good as the last and continued to grow in satisfaction as the meal continued and our plates were replenished. One of my dining companions most enjoyed the curry, the other was most impressed by the tom kah gai soup. I thoroughly enjoyed the warm, creamy soup, the sweet phad see-iw and the flavorful curry. This place is sort of hidden along the stretch of 15th Ave NW between 80th and 85th. In fact, I had never seen it before until I happened to be looking closely for restaurants in the area while I was driving by. When I did see it, I actually laughed to myself, thinking that the place couldn't really be that great, because the building was hideous. I don't know how I could have judged a book by its cover, but I did. Luckily, a friend of mine who was in town visiting told me that it was her favorite place to get Thai when she's in town, so we decided to go there. Thank goodness we did because it is fantastic! The servers are friendly and attentive and the service is so very quick. Our food was delicious and some of the best Thai I'd had in quite some time. Since I will be moving to Greenwood next month, I'll be sure to go to this place often! It was great. A quick warning: Be careful when ordering spicy food! I find it interesting that this place has such rave reviews. I've been to many a Thai restaurant (check out my Thai-cited List) and this one just didn't impress me very much compared to others. Sure, the wait staff are attentive and the prices are decent, but the flavors in the food were not up to par. PROS: 1. Good location + parking lot 2. Friendly wait staff 3. Amazingly fast service; food came out hella fast (probably TOO fast which should be a red flag) 4. Decent prices 5. Good tom yum soup 6. They didn't charge for cashews added to my fried rice CONS: 1. Lack of fresh veggies. The tom yum did not have tomatoes. Every other tom yum has tomatoes. 2. The fried rice options on the menu all said "peas and carrots." I've never had Thai fried rice with peas before. Chinese style, yes. But not Thai style. This implies frozen vegetables in my book. Other fried rice dishes elsewhere have cabbage, broccoli, tomato, onions, etc. Weird. 3. Bland fried rice. Seriously tasted like the only seasoning they added to it was soy sauce. Ick. I had to pour on it some of the leftover broth from the tom yum just to make this somewhat edible. If you're in the neighborhood, I recommend Thai Thani or Jhanjay. Not this place. read more

The service is inconsistent and boarders on making the customer feel like a nuisances. Also, it seems a lot of regulars are loud-mouth, old ladies who want their Thai food not so Thai-y. Gosh, I really just thought that this place was mediocre. The service was nice but a but putzy. We ordered the spring rolls and it felt dominated by lettuce. We got pad thai which was good and the pad see yew which I wasn't jumping for joy over. I thought it was just fine, I just don't think I will be driving out of my way to come back to this place. On another note, when they say spicy, they mean spicy! It was a pleasant surprise for me; I'm so used to people saying spicy and being underwhelmed. Non locals often find it hard to find a good spicy asian cuisine in the Pacific Northwest. Thai Siam is your answer. The food tastes great and they know how to make things spicy. They rate in 1-5 stars and 4 stars is really the best. It's got some serious kick that will melt the pasty white folk up north but provide just the right amount of burn for those of us accustomed to flavor. The tom kah gai is very good indeed. I'd remembered this place as being pretty good from a previous visit a couple years ago, but my return visit for lunch a couple days ago was uninspiring. Not bad, mind you, just kind of blah. My pad see iw was fine - liked the sauce and nicely cooked noodles - but would have benefited from about three times more broccoli, and my husband and mother both got lard nar and felt the same. They were generous with the chicken, so my carnivorous two year old was probably the happiest of the four of us. Chicken is one of her favorite foods and theirs was chopped small enough to be just about perfect for her. I only had to cut a couple pieces smaller. Reading the other reviews, I'm wondering if I would have been happier with a little heat, but we all got ours zero so we could share with the toddler, who does better with Indian spicy than Thai spicy for some reason. I was recommended to this place and what a recommendation it was. It's hard to find an impressive Thai place in Seattle with the surplus that exist. I was very impressed. The place is cozy, the service was prompt, our food came out really quick, and was absolutely delicious. One thing that makes this place stand out is the heat. Usually I go to places and order 4/4 stars or 5/5 stars and sometimes it's a bit spicy but. At Thai Siam, I ordered one dish as 2/4 and the other at 3/4 and they were both very spicy. The 3/4 was definitely hotter than most 4/4 star dishes I've had elsewhere. Something else that makes this place stand out it is the interesting variety and options. We ordered one dish called "Silver Rain." It was a very unique combination of vermicelli noodles, ground chicken, vegetables, and vivid citrus flavors in the sauce. I will be back. read more

I've been eating this Thai food for a long time. It used to be absolutely superb, and it still is on the days in which the matriarchial owner cooks, otherwise its a bit of a craps shoot. I especially like the soups here, but they aren't as good to go. Once a year they do a buffet for charity which is a great deal as well as being a great cause. Check it out but go on a weeknight as I think you may have a better chance of a good meal then, but thats just a hunch... read more

Thai Siam used generous spice. If you are a 4 to 5 star person most times I would go with 3. That is what I did and was good. Person I was did the same and their eyes were watering the whole meal... Aside from the spice the food was pretty average. (phad thai) Line was pretty long so you might want to plan for that... read more

'Twas a disappointing first go. I ordered the Garlic Lover and asked for 3 stars spicy. The woman taking the order took a half step back and asked, rather shocked, "Have you had three star here?" I said I hadn't, as this was my first visit. I've never had a particularly high tolerance to heat of the Scoville variety but I do appreciate a dish that can make me sweat, especially when the heat accentuates the flavor as good Thai food often does. I mistakenly backed down from my 3 stars and she said she'd bring me 2.5. The dish arrived and I didn't even think about how bland it was spice-wise as I asked my companion why something with garlic in its title would not have a hint of garlic flavor. It was only after 4 or 5 bites that I realized I wasn't going to need a second napkin to dab my forehead. This was some bland pork atop lettuce, accented by what appeared to be red pepper flakes. Alas, the spring rolls were good. I appreciate the woman looking out for my tongue, but if this is what passed for almost 3 star spicy I might have to stick to making my own. I'll hope this was an aberration and probably give 'em another shot, but I'm going in like Tom Petty. We eat here at least twice a month. I ALWAYS run into somebody I know here because it is that popular!~ Great Food Great Service - Always consistent! That's an A+ in my book for any restaurant! Our faves are the Tom Kha Soup and the angel wings for appetizers For the main dish, they have good pad thai and also good yellow curry but the absolute best is the Top of the World Beef - what do they marinate that with - whatever it is -- MY GOODNESS! I've actually ordered some of that sweet chili oil they serve with the angel wings and top of the world beef ---to go. It's good on salads - nice and fresh. My dishes have typically been spicy even for a 2 star so order accordingly. Located right on 15th across the street from Safeway in Ballard/Greenwood. Went here for lunch and was quite pleased. We started with an appetizer of crab rangoon which was amazing. I have never had crab rangoon that good before. Afterwards I ordered yellow curry with pork which was also quite good. I haven't had yellow curry before but it definitely tasted great. Consistently delicious! Somehow we always get seated in less than five minutes there, despite how busy it normally is. They have a true star rating system, 1-4. If you get 4, they will look at you incredulously and mentally size you up, are you /sure/? lol, hey, I only get 1 star cuz i'm a spice wuss, and it's perfect. I have been salivating over Thai food for years. This is the only restaurant that is better than my former #1, Thai Palace in Olympia, Wa. My boyfriend and I had just moved to Ballard and, having no funtional kitchen, we walked the 7 blocks to Thai Siam for dinner. And then we walked there for the next five nights. We took a few nights off and then went again...WE CAN'T GET ENOUGH. Their SPICY, delicious, flavorful food is hands down the best Thai I've had that wasn't actually in Thailand. I've never had a bad meal here. Nor a bad experiance. The staff are super friendly and very attentive. It is a little on the pricey side, but worth every penny. The angel chicken wings are AMAZING and the fresh rolls are right up there too. They have something there for every pallet. Whether you're into curry or spice, maybe just some fried rice.... they pretty much cover all corners... This restaurant also does a charity buffet once a year. The plate cost 25$ and all of the proceeds go to a couple different charities. I think for a small family owned operation to do something like that speaks volumes. In my opinion, if you're going to have a Thai restaurant, you have to get one dish down, and that's pad thai. I've never been impressed with their pad thai. Ever. And since I used to live within walking distance, I really wanted to love their pad thai. Last night it walked the fine line between bad and "meh." It wasn't very warm, and just wasn't all that flavorful. Now that I think of it, every time I've been there I've never had really hot food regardless of what I ordered. My next qualm is pretty nit-picky. Their spice level is on a 4 star scale instead of 5. Two stars leaves me with a bland dish. Three stars makes my nose run and leaves me chugging water. In between, please? What I love about this place is the service. The waiters and staff are friendly and at times, hilarious. The food comes quickly (so why isn't is hot? shoot.) and the wait to be seated usually isn't long. We ordered take-out: chicken pad Thai, yellow curry w/chicken & top of the world beef (all two star). The pad Thai was decent, not overly fish saucy or ketchup-y. The yellow curry was flavorful, but could've been a bit richer and seemed like a smaller portion compared with the pad Thai. Both of these dishes were spicy enough to make my nose start to run but not too hot to detract from the flavor. The top of the world beef was moist, tender and succulent...my favorite dish of the night. I'll definitely be back to try some panang curry, pad see ew, soups & fresh rolls. I appreciated the brown rice option and the staff all seemed very friendly. Looking forward to my next visit! I was looking for a Thai place along the way home to Shoreline from Seattle Center and came across Thai Siam. After reading some of the reviews it seemed like a legit place to try out. Their take-out menu is pretty extensive (good or bad depending on your taste) and the receptionist said it would take 20-25 minutes for my order to be ready. Reading the reviews, folks said their 4 star items were actually hot unlike most places so I rolled the dice. I'm usually a medium to medium-hot guy and 4 stars was more than enough. After wiping the sweat from my eyelids and shedding a tear (or two), Thai Siam's pad thai was pretty good. Could stand to cut the tofu into smaller pieces but I will enjoy trying their 3 star next time. My wife had their green chicken curry as a 2 star and said that it was fine. I would definitely go back to try more of their menu items and maybe sit down to dinner at their restaurant. read more

This is a great Thai restaurant in the Ballard/Crown Hill neighborhood. I rarely give 5 Stars, so I weigh this place pretty hard. They have nice decor (don't forget to take some gummy bears from the statue) and look like a great meeting place for groups (even though I usually take-out). What's more is they have flavorful, well made food with large portions (always a favorite of mine). Even during the times they are busy, the service is usually quick and efficient, and the staff is always friendly and knows their regulars. What's more, the owner, who has been in business for over two decades is active in the local neighborhood for fundraisers, etc. Truly a gem of a business for this area, and a great place to catch some delicious lunch or dinner. read more
