Chicken fried rice.
Walter R.

First time here. Ordered chicken fried rice. I have the same dish all over the country and this one didn't measure up. It was kind of tasteless. Very bland. Now that isn't a good thing for Thai food. Think I will cross this place off the list for return visits. It was close to closing time. Maybe that affected the dish quality.

Beef pad see ew
Lisa T.

Had to downgrade my review because the website has incorrect prices! The waitress says they are unable to update it! Very solid pad see ew with beef, with a strong black pepper taste. Nice char on the noodles and friendly service at this no-frills eatery near Kaiser but overpriced.

08252025 -- Thai fried rice with beef
Cath M.

08252025 My parents and I had a few doctor appts at Kaiser... and so we ended up walking from the hospital to this spot which was really convenient. It was around the lunch time hour (lots of takeaway orders) and so it wasn't that packed inside. The staff was friendly and prompt. My parents and I shared the following: Egg rolls = piping hot, but really good and tasty. It wasn't oily! Moo ping with coconut rice = my parents ended up sharing this and they loved it! The beef was tender and well seasoned. The coconut rice was legit delicious! I had the thai fried rice with beef and that too was delicious and seasoned correctly. We were all surprisingly shocked at how good it was and will definitely be frequenting when in the area. Well worth checking out and the prices were reasonably!!!

Kao Soy

Thai Taste Kitchen is an excellent hidden gym located on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. If you were just walking by on the street you might miss this establishment given the relatively small entrance. As you walk in, you are greeted by the friendly staff who offer you a seat inside or on their lovely patio (my preferred eating spot). Thai Taste has a variety of Thai dishes, but if I'm being honest... I'm always here for the Kao Soy. They do it really well so I see no need to change my order haha. Each bowl is full of a flavorful coconut milk-based broth and tasty noodles. The Kao Soy also comes with a generous portion of perfectly crisp and tasty chicken. I'd highly recommend this dish if you visit! I also recently tried their avocado rolls which comes with both peanut and hoisin sauce. The food here is excellent and the service is on point. I'd highly recommend this spot if you're doing some shopping on Piedmont and looking for some Thai food for lunch or dinner. P.S. my tip is to sit on the patio when it's a nice day out!

Do yourselves a favor, if you like Thai food, you will surely find the food here delicious. Parking can be tricky, so one of us sometimes disembarks while the other looks for a spot anywhere & then arrives when a text says "pick me up"! This is our go-to Restaurant, this year for Thanksgiving & Christmas both. Friends who joined us were impressed with the food & were very interested to know the name & location of this restaurant. Now my In-Laws like to order Take Out more often, and they always want to order Thai food! It used to be they wanted Indian food, which we love but truly had not found satisfactory in the past. I'm so glad because Thai Taste Kitchen doesn't disappoint! They have been impeccable about marking the containers & even packaging meat vs vegetarian items in separate bags, and they allow specifics like "no shrimp paste" or whatever, more of "this" or none of "that". White Rice included free with entrees thst are not noodle or rice based, and if you prefer individual instead of family style, you can add an appetizer to each entree individually for about $5-$6, which is about the same as splitting an appetizer order in half, but sometimes people prefer a different appetizer. I like to avoid fried foods, for example, but others love egg rolls or fried chicken (was that an appetizer or an entree?) Thai Iced Tea comes in one size only, and it's small, but consider the calories. This is probably best in small size & I was thoroughly satisfied, I had not indulged for many, many years and it was so delicious. If possible, get it with no ice so it doesn't melt on the way to your destination, you can add your own ice once you get there. Tbh, I started drinking it immediately & finished it in about 10 min, since my husband was driving. Treat yourselves & I think you'll be really glad you found this place. One caveat, they are short staffed so keep that in mind if you eat in the restaurant, I believe only one person is serving tables and may also handle the register, so it may require patience. The beauty of Take Out is we can set out a buffet, everyone grabs a plate & chooses ehat they like, and we can reheat warm items in the microwave in about a minute, and it tastes it's best hot.

Kai Soi
Juicke C.

Was in the neighborhood and wanted something simple soupy and curry. My go to dish lately at Thai restaurant has been Kai Soi, northern Thai curry noodle soup dish. They offer a few variation with different protein. I went with their standard dish that included chicken and beef. It was delivered fairly quickly in a large bowl on a large plate. Toss in the pickled greens, onions and beans sprouts with freshly squeezed lime makes the curry broth do much flavorful. It's sweet, tangy and slightly spicy to break a sweat. I could drink the thick curry broth as my meal and be satisfied. The service was friendly and attentive.

Thai tea and Thai coffee
Connie C.

My mom and I stopped by on a weekday for lunch. There was no wait and we mostly saw people coming to grab their to-go meals. However the place is actually really big (you wouldn't really suspect it from the outside and narrow door entrance). It was actually really cool to see that they have a nice balcony seating area in the back, it seems like a lovely place to eat in the summer. The food was great! We loved it all: pumpkin curry (not spicy), rot (the curry sauce was the best), avocado spring roll (fresh and both sauces went well with them; one is peanut and one is hoisin), and Thai tea/thai coffee. The only thing is the Thai tea and coffee were both sweeter than we prefer, but tasted much better once the ice melted. I would definitely come again!

Delicious roti and yellow curry appetizer
Jodi H.

Thai Taste is my fave thai spot in the Oakland area, for their romantic back patio (dog-friendly) and delicious flavorful foods and large portions. Came by for a weeknight treat-ourself night with my friend, and we were happy to enjoy Piedmont on the weekday without the hustle and bustle of the weekend. There were plenty of spots on the street for parking, and we easily walked in without having to wait to be seated. Our servers were SO kind and attentive, shout out to the wonderful ladies holding it down and the beautiful chefs making our delicious foods in the open kitchen concept you can see right when you walk in from the front door. We started with their yellow curry and roti appetizer which was honestly our most favorite dish. I am picky with my roti and Thai Taste's is SO flaky, perfect with their initial crunch, but buttery soft goodness. Holy moly, that yellow curry I could just drizzle all over my body, yum. Their pad thai looked so tasty, my friend loved it. And I enjoyed my pad kee mao. I'm a sucker for rice noods and Thai Taste really had us raving about the flavors. I walked out so stuffed and my belly so warm and happy, it felt like a spiritual experience. Would highly recommend treating yourself to some honest and genuine Thai food by some friendly and lovely people.

We all split all the specialty cocktails and I got the Khao Pad Kang Kiew (rice with eggplant and chicken topped with a fried egg). Dishes are $20-23 ish each. We were seated at the 6 person table in the back of the restaurant near the bathroom. My favorite drinks were their take on a hard thai iced tea, the lavender mojito, a take on an espresso martini. There was also this spicy drink that had thai chilis in it that is VERY spicy lol. Pros: - the rice dish was DELICIOUS and also huge haha. Came with cucumbers to cut the peppery flavor if needed. - All the cocktails were pretty different and it was fun to try all of them. They were all beautiful to look at and tasty (lots of coconut and Thai inspiration). - Service was pretty good - Has "typical" thai dishes like pad thai and pad see ew, and also more rare ones that are hard to find - Close to many bars and other establishments, so perfect if you want to eat here as a first, second, or third location of your outing haha Cons: - The air flow in the back wasn't amazing so I did feel like it got stuffy/hot - Parking can be tough in this area so I recommend BARTing Another reason to love Oakland!

We had to re-place our orders because they were never sent to the kitchen and lost, we had to flag down servers otherwise we were sitting there confused for 20+ minutes as they hustled and bustled around us, it was just bizarre. And it was a bit embarrassing as I'd lauded this place to my guest and we proceeded to get snubbed by every server during dinner time. Alas, the pad kemao was still delicious but I don't know if I'd suffer that kind of service again for a meal. And no, nothing was comped or discounted. Ambiance-wise, the restaurant is cute and near a busy area of downtown Oakland so it's easy to get to by BART or by car. I might give them another chance if I'm ever in the area already, but I won't be going out of my way to visit again.

But it was not full throughout the time we were at the restaurants. Experience: Food came out pretty fast and it was hot(!). Overall, service was good and they checked in on us a few times to make sure all is good. Food: - Nam Khao was fantastic. Crispy rice, the mixed minced vegetables, and the cooked sausage. Together with the lime that you can squeeze to preference, it was delicious! Haven't had Nam Khao this delicious in a while! - Pad See Ew with pork was alright. It was cooked well and a little on the sweeter side rather than savory, but missing the smoky flavor "wok hei" that would take this to the next level that I love. - Fried Sweet Fish was alright too. Fish is fried with a very thin batter but it had black pepper which my kids doesn't want as they're sensitive to anything spicy. The fish had a light fishy taste to it (fresh water fish) which would be better if they even use a little ginger to cut the fishy taste for a better taste. - Guay Tiew is very similar to Pad See Ew with the exception that it had a fried egg on the top and had seafood (shrimp and squid). - Vientiane Crispy Roll is different from regular egg rolls. Made with rice paper roll so it was crispy but also chewy, which is different and may not be what everyone is used to. Will return to try out other dishes.

I missed photos of the main entrees enjoying our time and honestly not sure what we ordered as we paid with a kiosk and didn't get a printed receipt even thought I typed in my email.. so that's frustrating with technology. If you want a receipt have it printed before you leave. My friend had a spicy eggplant dish and I had a tofu dish with rice and no fish sauce. Wish I could be more descriptive but can't say without an itemized receipt.. doesn't matter though, was all amazing flavors for both my friend (who travels and has worldly palette, and my self with a broad pallet only within the US) Flavors were amazing and service was on par. I did have an issue at first with the first server saying Pad Thai could be done with tofu and no fish sauce so I was excited, but then the next server said it was already mixed and not able to accommodate, but did find me an alternative I found flavorful with veggies, though missed having the peanuts in my dish. I had Pad See You instead without meat or fish sauce. Service overall was wonderful, attentive and didn't have to wait for anything. They did close and allowed us to stay on the patio visiting long after. Would be happy to return again.. I didn't ask about validating my parking and then they closed, so that was a bummer but my bad.. do check when you arrive and see if they can validate to help with a hefty parking cost $20 for us but hung out longer than most..

We ordered the Tom Kha, Nam Khao, Fried Clear Rice Paper Roll Wraps, Pineapple Khao Pad, and Geng Ka Ree. Everything was fabulous! Lots of great flavors and spices. The portion sizes were spot on. My favorite was the Nam Khao and the Fried Clear Rice Paper Roll Wraps. I love the bite-sized and sharing family-style. My companion and family also enjoyed it. Do you like the funk?…read more Our server explained to us the Lao version is more funky and fermented, while the Thai version is more mellow. We went with the Lao version. The Thai iced coffee was delicious and strong! As it should be. It did give me the jitters though because I'm a weak sauce. We were a party of ten and I was able to make rezzies via phone for a Friday evening at 6:30pm no problem about a week beforehand. The kiddos ordered à la carte, and five of us adults had the following: - BMV ultimate papaya platter with Lao sausage, angel wings and crispy pork. Crispy pork was legit, papaya salad definitely had that extra funk. The angel wings were crispy and meaty and my friends loved the Lao sausage. One even said "it's like tom yum soup in a sausage". It was very lemongrass forward which is not my thing, but that's my problem. I feel we could have ordered à la carte and that would have been a better deal than $75 for the platter. Some of it was fluff like the cabbage, rice and pork rinds. - Khao soy soup: Fiancé thought it would be creamy and coconut-y like the Thai version but it wasn't. I did enjoy the flat noodles but they were all stuck together. - Pia pla ka pow (fish with basil): Good one. The fish was moist and flavorful. The veggies were al dente and delicious too. - Sakoo: Unique! I enjoyed the chewy mochi exterior and the savory ground pork filling. It needed a sauce. I just used the chili sauce that was on the party platter. - Laab Gai: This fell flat for me. I'm not a huge fan of organs though. - Nam khao fried rice: One of our favorites! The crispy pieces really made this dish. Would definitely order this again. - Mango sticky rice: Served warm. Very sweet mango! - Purple rice with egg custard: Also served warm. This was ok. - Side of rice: HUGE serving! Unfortunately it was clumpy and hard, which means old. Street parking only. Get the nam khao and mango sticky rice!
