What an amazing place. Who ever thought that a lobster roll in Minneapolis could taste this good! We came and were able to snag a seat inside. It was a hot day in Minny, so no "It's cold like Minnesota" that day, so the outdoor patio mage have been too hot. Our server was very friendly and we received our food very quickly. I of course ordered their lobster roll. It came with a side of chip. Didn't really care of them, but this lobster roll was on point. They packed it full of lobster, definitely no skimping here. The bread used is a little different than something you would get in New England, but they made it work. I might just come back here next time I'm in Minnesota. My son ordered their Mac and cheese with bacon. It was also tasty and very filling. No Kraft crap here. The Mac and cheese was very cheesy, just how I like it. Wouldn't mind ordering this again. Boy do you pay for it, but man is the food good! Lobster roll is flippin' unbelievable, each bite is a euphoric experience that will have you feeling like you are floating. The Lobster Mac is similarly magnificent, as the soft, rich shellfish pairs perfectly with the cheesy pasta. These two foods easily top my list of all-time best foods, top 10 if not top 5(and making that list is a daunting task that many tastes have attempted and failed to achieve). Only negative was the price. $20 for the roll, $18 for the Mac. But what are you gonna do, it is lobster which is a pricey delicacy at any restaurant. Wings were also spectacular, but didn't blow me away like the entree's did. Overall, I was very impressed by 1029. I had so much fun at the 1029! My experience here was a bit unique because it was during the zombie pub crawl. After we determined that the pub crawl was a flop we walked right over to 1029 and waited in a small line to get in. For how busy it was, we got in fairly quickly. The bar was absolutely packed due to the event, but I loved it. The bar tenders were very attentive and we didn't feel the need to order multiple drinks at a time. They also made us feel included and took the time to tell us a little about the bar. I've been to bars where the stress of a busy crowd is very apparent in the bartender's attitude and demeanor. Honestly, I was just so impressed with the calm and collected service during such a crazy event. I'm writing this review so long after the fact because I like to see which places really stick with me and this is one of them. I just remember having so much fun. (If you go and end up having a lot of fun, ask about the bras on the ceiling). This is definitely the place to go in the area. It saved my zombie pub crawl experience and I'm hoping to get back there to experience a more typical night soon! read more

This is the bar I frequent the most on weekends. It's small but it's got everything - good food, fast bar service, karaoke, pull tabs, the wheel, a parking lot, and even a patio! The food is surprisingly fresh and not your average greasy spoon you'd expect from a place with bras and car doors as decor. The shrimp po'boy really hits the spot after a few drinks. Mark got defensive because this guy was his buddy. He accused me of lying. The young lady left their property before she could be consulted with. I have shared my concerns with the owner and my calls were not returned. I am forced to include 1029 in the category of Minneapolis bars whose liquor license renewals need to be scrutinized until they have adequate security measures in place to protect their female customers. read more

This is my favorite dive bar in the Twin Cities, hands down. We would go here all the time pre-Covid. Such a fun, welcoming vibe. Everyone singing along to the constant jams of karaoke. Fast forward to current Covid times, they have a large, shaded patio, perfect for this overly hot weather. They space out the tables enough to make the experience feel safe and clean for a relaxing date night out. The Connecticut Lobster Roll was the best thing I've eaten all year. Granted, we haven't been out to eat much this year but it seriously blew away my expections. The bread was very soft, warm, and loaded with fresh, flavorful lobster. Their Bacon Mac and Cheese was also delicious. The corn and bacon really took the dish to the next level, and the serving size was big enough for two of us to share. 1029 bar is a lively local bar in Northeast Minneapolis. It's one of those places where you walk in, and you know that there are "regulars" who come here often. It offers a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere with amazing comfort food to boot. Every square inch of the place has character and pizzaz (take notice of the bras hanging near the bar). The place was filled with people from wall to wall, but we were luckily able to squeeze into a few seats at the bar. We had a group of five, so we were fortunate enough to be able to find space for all of us. We grabbed some drinks and ordered Lobster Mac & Cheese ($18) and a half order of fries ($2). 1029 teamed up with the Smack Shack, so they have great bar food with a seafood twist. Both dishes were exquisite. The Lobster Mac & Cheese was creamy, melty, & ooey-gooey with the perfect amount of lobster. A little piece of advice: ALWAYS get the Smack Shack fries...a half order will be plenty! Trust me, you'll be pleased. Two improvements that can be made are the service and drinks. The service is very slow, and the bartenders are not the most attentive. It didn't help that their drinks were flat. I got a vodka Redbull, and it was bland, so I had a Mike's Hard Lemonade after since I knew the bartender wouldn't have to make it. A few of my friends also complained about having watered down drinks. I would absolutely come to 1029 Bar again...maybe not for the drinks, but definitely for the food and setting! read more

STORY: If you're anything like me, you cannot pick out a restaurant to eat at to save your life. Especially when it comes to HH. It's always a mix of wanting to try new restaurants, new food, having too many options, and not knowing what I want to eat. This was exactly the story one night when my roommate and I decided to get HH food and bev. We drove around for a half an hour passing many noble options but couldn't settle on any of them. We finally gave up and as we drove past 1029 we decided to stop. How good could it be? AMBIANCE: The bar area is small and a bit cramped but cozy enough for you and a friend. MENU: Their menu sounded really tasty and even featured seafood from Smack Shack. Could we have found THE spot? I wasn't feeling like shelling (heh) out the money for seafood that moment so we both ordered spicy bloodies and burgers. The bloodies are really good (though they come in single use plastic cups ;(((( ) briny, full of flavor, with a bit of a kick, and not too thin or thick. I think they cost something like $4.50 too. Whatta bargain. FOOD/SERVICE: Burgers didn't take too long before they came out and the server was on top of everything, checking in and asking if we needed any refills, extras, etc., The food is a bit spendy imo but well worth it overall in size, freshness, and flavor. Have you been to a restaurant and can just tell their patties are handmade and fresh? That's how it is here. Burgers are big enough to have leftovers to bring to lunch the next day though you're probably better off just finishing them later the same night. Burgers do NOT reheat well ifyouknowhwatimean. OVERALL: What we saved on bloodies we spent on food and it was well worth it. Tried out this dive bar before but this time around I've had enough. Biggest problem is the extremely rude staff, from the waiting service, bartenders, and security. Went here last Saturday and it was so busy and overpacked. We went out to the patio where it was less crowded and the waitress did not care about us because we were a couple at a 4 top. Went downhill from there. After ordering a basket of fries, we went inside to the bar top, and an hour later, still no fries. After asking the waitress about the fries, she immediately flipped out and told the bartenders to 86 us. They snatched my drink that I just ordered and tossed it. They told me to leave or get thrown out by security. I was walking away and of course these 2 bouncers try to pick me up and throw me out on the sidewalk. And even try to intimidate me and jaw at me to hit them so they could further do more damage. This place is a shit hole, it smells and there's no cleanliness at all. Don't bother with the food because it's all greased up and over seasoned. The drinks are over priced and the overall experience is just terrible. We use to live in Minneapolis and the 1029 Lobster Mac-n-Cheese was our very favorite meal to have in the twin cities. We would tell people everywhere we went that they had to stop by the 1029 and try this meal. It was the the best. Well as the saying goes all good things must come to an end. The price has gone up again (now $27) but I was ok with that as long as the meal was as good as it had been, however, the cheese sauce was runny, there was very little lobster in the meal, and it tasted bland. Basically your getting a very expensive mac-n-cheese, nothing special anymore. This is no longer a meal that is worth the money. WHAT HAPPENED??? Great sandwiches! We tried the lobster which was on the menu, which was good, but the off menu warm lobster was a killer! It came with a dipping butter sauce. Funkiest. Joint. Ever. Came here (kind of reluctantly) with some friends who's a cop and just HAD to see what it was about. Walked in and the place was hoppin' already at 7:30 on a Friday evening. Although we kind of wanted to sit on the patio but it was full, we still were able to find a great spot in the bar area. A while later when the karaoke started, we realized we actually had the perfect spot! Pros: Funky, eclectic, great people watching. Especially once the karaoke started. The bartender sang a song while he continued to expertly and flawlessly tend the bar still! Great beer options. Great food--coming from someone who doesn't even care for seafood! The lobster Mac n cheese was BOMB! Free popcorn (and it's good)! Lots of interesting decor to look at... (including a backwards clock). Decent location with plenty of street parking. Patio Cons: (not really) Certain beers (we got pitchers of the Kona) weren't totally cheap. Their beer is though! Not much for food options.
