It wasn't horribly busy when we got there, we were seated right away. We ordered and waited. 15 mintues later the chili came out (which was given an "eh" review by those who had it).. about an hour after that we asked about our food and were told there was a mix up and the chili confused the kitchen. By this point there was maybe two other tables in the place, and at least one of those two had already been served. Twenty minutes later we got our food. None of it was too complicated, nor were there any special requests. The waiter (Eric) had a horrible attitude towards us. Never once were we apologized to for the wait. We had to ask for some sort of compensation for the long wait. The manager had an attitude and told us in some unkind words at the end of the night that he did not appreciate our complaints.. which I think are valid if you wait an hour for a cheese plate. read more

Wow, what a great place! Ate here while in town for a conference after researching for a not-too-expensive, foodie, casual, local spot. This place hit every target. We sat in the heated, enclosed patio with a mix of larger groups and small parties of all ages. Our server was attentive and helpful and our water glasses were never empty. I know this place is known for wine, but we both started with unique cocktails that were delicious. We moved on to a wonderful bottle of wine that was a great value and expertly paired with some help from one of the managers (or maybe owner?). And that was just the alcohol. The food was amazing! We studied the menu for a long time, so many options that sounded delicious. We started with the baked goat cheese, which was unlike anything I have ever experienced. I will dream of this goat cheese. We shared the mussels and then the chicken, both of which were very, very good. The chicken was paired with oven roast veggies that were so fresh and flavorful, we were reminded how much the right vegetable can compliment a meal. I don't care what any of the other reviews say, this place is great! There aren't many places you can go to get a decent selection of wine and not have to get gouged by the prices, especially if you want to sit down and have dinner. The selection is great, the staff very knowledgeable. The menu is great for sharing so you can come with some friends or your significant other and enjoy some food and wine together. I'm a fan of the risotto, the stuffed tomato (who doesn't like boursin?), the cheese board (which is always something different), the muscles, the charcuterie plate, the fries, and pretty much anything else I've ordered I've been pleased with. The outdoor patio is "cozy" but a nice addition and if you're like me and you live here in OB....where the hell else can you go and get something nice to eat and a bottle of wine as late at 1am on a Sunday night?? I have only been here for brunch so that is all I am basing my rating on. I went for the bottomless mimosa brunch on a Sunday with a large group to celebrate a birthday. The service was good and given the size of our party the food didn't take forever. The menu sounded awesome, I would call it contemporary American with a little bit of a creative flair. Unfortunately the food just didn't live up to the expectation. I ordered a ham sandwich on a baguette with melted brie cheese and caramelized onions and it came out only slightly warm and was definitely skimpy on the brie and the onions were definitely not caramelized, I would call them lightly sauteed and I wasn't a fan. The sandwich, on a whole, was basically unremarkable. The shoestring fries were just so-so as well. It seemed like half of our party really liked their food and the other half was on the fence, as I was. The chocolate bread they served before our meal was amazing and the staff was attentive and quick to refill our waters and mimosas, our glasses were hardly ever empty. It was a pleasant brunch but I don't think I would do it again, although I would like to try their dinner sometime. read more

Came for happy hour with a friend newly returned to San Diego who had never been to the 3rd Corner. At 4:30 we had no problems getting a table, but we had reservations just in case. We both had flights of wine, which were very good, but unfortunately the waiter knew little about the wines included, so really could not provide any advice on our choices. We had food off the happy hour menu including the cheese and cured meat plate (very good), the short rib slider (good, huge serving of fries), and the wild mushroom pasta (full of mushrooms, well seasoned). Shared a dessert of chocolate chip cookie bread pudding with gelato. Other than the problem with wine knowledge noted above, our service from our waiter was good, the ambiance and noise levels good, and we had an opportunity to have a relaxing conversation. read more

I really liked their set-up in which you buy a bottle of wine at retail price and then pay just $5 corkage to drink it with dinner! It's a novel idea and I rarely buy wine with dinner because it's usually way too expensive, but this was great! Also, perfect service. The flavors on the food were good but not anything I would write home about (hence the 4 rather than 5 stars). I actually had to add salt to everything. I would definitely eat here again. read more

Came here for one of my close friend's going away dinner and the food was really good. The service was incredibly slow though, took approximately an hour to get our food but we had good company so it was alright. Still took about 10 minutes to get our beers and wine though. Ordered the seafood risotto, the smaller portion (which was still too much for me to finish), and it was great. It does have a strong smell, but was nonetheless delicious. For dessert, I ordered the almond apple galette and it was just as savory. Still a pleasurable experience, will be back when I'm in the area. read more

I got the seafood risotto and my husband got the New York strip. Both were excellent. The shrimp and scallops were perfectly prepared and the risotto was rich and cheesy. This place is great! I've never come to the actual restaurant, just the comfy couches for appetizers and wine. They do have wines by the bottle and the glass that you can select from off the menu, however, the entire place is like a wine cellar. And you can walk among the tables/bar browsing the wines. When, you find one, corkage fee is only $5. To some, this may be ridiculous, but lets be real here, the bottles start as low as $7, so even including the corkage fee of $5, that's cheaper than any bottle of wine you could get at a restaurant. I've never seen a wine list with bottles cheaper than $12, but maybe you have. But what if I get a white, will I have to drink it warm? Not to worry! They chill it for you and it takes about 10 minutes. Every appetizer I've had has been amazing. I'm pretty sure they change the cheese selection regularly and tell you what each one is when they set it down on your table. If you need assistance selecting a wine that would be appropriate for all the palates in your group, there are some very knowledgeable people wandering around that are always willing to help. You don't have to eat here to shop the wines either, you can just come for the amazing selection and take your picks home for dinner. read more

Excellent food in an upscale but not stuffy environment. You can dress up a bit or be more casual. They don't have a huge menu but everything is so good and priced very well for what you're getting. They have a filet mignon that's scrumtious with some of the best fries I've ever had-thin, crispy and dusted with parmesan. Even their iced tea is really good! Even when every table is full it never really feels that way, due to the layout, and it doesn't get super noisy. read more

Why, Why, WHY do you have to be disappointing! You're right around the corner from my house, and I SO wanted you to be good, but you're just not. You're semi-casual, which is good, and you're not too expensive, which is good, but I get the distinct impression that the people running the place don't come from a culinary background. Here's what I base my impression on: 1. You have a dish called Duck Confit, which, though tasty, isn't confit. It's just a slow-cooked duck breast. 2. You said "filet mignon" when I asked about the type of beef in the carpaccio app . The correct answer would have been "Kobe, Wagyu, Angus, etc". When pressed on this issue, you said, "I don't know". 3. Your grilled chicken pasta uses frozen pre-grilled chicken breast and gets too salty with all that bacon in there. 4. You asked "What do you usually drink?" when I asked for some suggestions from the wine list. A better way to guide your guest would have been to suggest something on the less dry and less acidic side if you knew I was ordering a salty and smoky dish, but even "Red or White?" would have been a better question. People who like wine don't say "I usually drink Pinot Noir (or Merlot or whatever)". You're a wine bar, shouldn't you be encouraging people to try something new? 5. I hate to even bring this up, because I sympathize to some degree, but ... you asked me to pull out my driver's license when I ordered a glass of wine. Not at the bar after I walked in off the street, but at a table in the dining room full of old people. It made me feel a little uncomfortable and awkward. I don't think this happens as a matter of policy, though. I think this happened because the young lady serving me was used to being asked for ID herself and thought it was the right thing to do, and didn't have the fine dining experience to know that that just isn't done. The vice squad doesn't go sit down at a table and order lentil soup and a glass of malbec. I'm new to San Diego, so maybe that is something that happens, but it sounds extremely unlikely to me. I'd go back, but only for a glass of wine with friends, and maybe a cheese plate. I realize San Diego has a limited pool of talent to pull from, but your full menu just doesn't meet expectations. read more
