A really, really good breakfast. Better than the other restaurants I go to in the breakfast category (First Watch, IHOP). Just plain better than First Watch, and far less expensive. Quality equal to IHOP, but more variety, and a little less expensive. My son had the pancakes. He ordered 3........never again. 2 would be more than enough. They are hubcap-sized. Pretty good, too. I had the Mediterranean skillet. They have many skillets of different types, I like the Greek twist. Very, very tasty, the only drawback is that they use gyro meat that is clearly pre-prepared in little strips. THAT'S NOT GYRO MEAT. Gyro meat comes shaved directly off a rotating meat mass, in different sizes and shapes with some crispy parts and some thick parts. The variety of texture and size is 90% of the allure of gyro. Little strips don't cut it. The "home fries" are hash browns. In all other restaurants I've been to, "home fries" means those cube-cut potatoes that come with breakfast. For some reason here, they serve hash browns (shredded potatoes) and call them "home fries" on the menu. Now, since I like hash browns better, that's fine, but they should really call them by the right name. Still, I would rather drive 20 minutes to have breakfast here than go to the First Watch one minute from my house. Good stuff...... read more

OMG!!! I came to Webster University for a lecture and stopped here for breakfast. I ate to Mickey Mouse pancakes and they didn't even harass me about being an adult. The food was so amazing I had to come back for lunch; I am very happy that I did because it is hands-down the best burger I've ever eaten!! How fun to find a great place! read more

I had breakfast here last Sunday for the second time in a month. Still excellent. It's a busy, seat yourself environment, but the wait staff circulates constantly, offering coffee, clearing dishes, etc. I have had pancakes here, which were about as good as any pancakes I've had at a restaurant. This time I had a large breakfast called something like the Hungry Man, which included good, hot biscuits and gravy, hash browns that were crispy outside, fluffy inside, over easy eggs, and sausage. How wonderful that they offer links or patties! I often want sausage with my breakfast, but I don't like links, since most every place under-cooks them and you have to chew the rubbery casings. We paid about half what we would have paid a few blocks down the road at Half & Half, and didn't wait a minute. read more

You can't go wrong with the Biscuits and Gravy - especially with the generous serving of graving. The wait staff give fast service and are exceptionally quick to refill your coffee. It's nothing fancy, but the service is attentive, the portions are hefty, and the food comes out extremely quick. They've modified their seating and added three rows of booths (a row on each side of the wall and one down the middle). Next to the middle 4-person booths they have tables for two set up right next to them - so it's possible to have a party of two at the booth and a party of two at the table extending from the side of the booth I'm sure can be a bit odd for some folks. I saw more than one group of two jump up mid-breakfast and grab a clean booth next to the wall to avoid or leave the odd awkward middle row seating experience. The outdoor patio is a nice addition in warmer weather, but when it's cold, the small waiting area near the door can cause large groups of people to hover over existing diners with large cold drafts of air coming through every time the door is opened. Breakfast menu has a good assortment of egg/french toast/meat combos, omelettes, eggs/meat combo, and skillet's. I have never eaten lunch so I cannot comment on the sandwiches, etc. I ordered the three-egg Webster omelette (Gyro Chicken, spinach, onion, tomato, jalapeno, mushroom, feta cheese) and it was a generous serving that I did not completely finish. Wife ordered scrambled eggs and french toast and mentioned that her french toast wasn't cooked all the way (which isn't hard to believe because it was easily less than 5 minutes from order to table delivery). The kiddo ordered the Mickey Pancake shaped like Mickey Mouse that had a whipped cream smile with chocolate chips and she loved it. The home fries on my plate were plentiful and tasty. The decor isn't anything to admire, but overall if you're looking for a good, quick, quality sit-down breakfast joint, then you can't go wrong with the menu options, larger portions, quick service, and decent price when compared to other breakfast spots. When I was a little girl, I would visit my grandparents in the small town where they lived, They would always takes me to eat at the little diner in town. Boardwalk Cafe is the closest I've ever come to revisiting those memories. The portions are HUGE and so good. Plate sized pancakes, generous portions of bacon, and really good hash browns (I don't know why so many restaurants get these wrong, but they do). Although I prefer to go just for breakfast, the lunch options are equally good. If you go on a Sunday, try to hit it when churches are in session. Otherwise, you might have a bit of a wait. My go-to choice is the Mediterranean skillet which has gyro meat, peppers, onions, feta cheese, and an egg on top. Its okay. I know many give this place 5 stars, but nothing was remarkable to me. I had the boardwalk omelet - good. Hashbrowns, very basic. No need to go back. In fact, the 2 waitresses seemed very rushed. They have a "wait to be seated sign" when you walk in, but then one of the waitresses yells out " just sit where there are menus.". Right off the bat they get two stars just for being near enough to my house that we can decide we are hungry and be served about 20 minutes later. When you go here you can count on a good meal, cheap. I love this place. The menu is basic really. But what they do, they do it very well. The burgers. HUGE and very tasty. The fries, AWESOME. This is a good solid breakfast diner location. The sign on the window says something like Best Brunch Around and that may be an exaggeration but the truth is that Boardwalk serves good traditional breakfast foods. Serving sizes on the skillets are huge but everything is pretty cheap. While they don't have a kid's menu that I could see, they do offer one pancake or one piece of french toast, plus, they have grilled cheese so most small kids would be fine eating there. If you want a nice fancy brunch, I'd recommend Duff's in CWE - but if you're tired of First Watch or Denny's - try Boardwalk and you won't be disappointed. read more

We found this place with a Google search of the "Best breakfast in St. Louis" and the Boardwalk Café seemed to come back as just that so we figured we would try it out. This was the first time in this area and first impressions were great. Super clean and everyone that you met said hello. The restaurant itself was nice and clean and about the perfect size place. The service was all you could ask for and we ordered the skillet's which only took about 10 minutes before our breakfast was served to us and let me tell you this place as far as we are concerned is the Best Breakfast in Town!! The portions were awesome and the food was incredible. We really loved coming here and for sure will be at the top of the list for breakfast. We cant wait to get back there and try something else. This place is very mismanaged. The floors are always covered with food and garbage, and the overall cleanliness of the place is despicable. They also call themselves a breakfast restaurant, but they don't have any fruit on the menu and apparently have no way to serve a fruit cup or a side of fruit. The servers also use iPads for some reason instead of a notepad to take orders. You would think this is because they are trying to be more productive, but the tablets actually slow down the process of ordering and often times the servers have technical difficulties with the iPad. This is really quite embarrassing to The Boardwalk Cafe because they can't even keep their restaurant clean, but they do try to somehow institute iPads into a small breakfast diner in a small town in Missouri. Excellent service and food. I had the Boardwalk Special Omelette with hash browns and toast. My only complaint is that the portion was huge. It was awesome, but more than I needed. Unfortunately I have a bad habit of eating everything on my plate. For anyone else from Austin, this is the St Louis version of Magnolia Cafe, or the original Omlettry.
