I have been going to the boiling crab in Alhambra California for the longest and I was excited to see that a boiling crab opened up here in Austin. We came by on a Friday evening and waited about 10 minutes before we got seated which isn't too bad given this place is always packed on the weekends. We had the snow crab and we were glad that the crawfish was still in season. Ordered about 3 lbs of crawfish and 2 clusters of snow crab for about 3 people with the whole shabang sauce. Everything came out fresh as expected and tasted amazing. Great atmosphere and they play the best music. Will be coming back very soon read more

This place has the best soft shell crabs. The service was quick and very friendly. The restaurant was very nice inside, and it was definitely a place to go eat seafood. All there food is just outstanding so if you're looking for great seafood iI recommend giving this place a try. read more

Came here this past weekend with my family and from the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly. The wait was super long but once we got in our server, Kelly, was absolutely amazing--friendly, attentive, and super knowledgeable about the menu. She made sure we had everything we needed and even gave great recommendations on sauces and spice levels. We ordered a mix of shrimp, crawfish, and crab with the Whole Sha-Bang sauce, and it was packed with flavor. Everything was fresh, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection. No one greeted us when we walked in. We stood there a little over 10 mins before we were acknowledged. The manager was talking to a group of servers and saw us, yet did not say anything or came to greet us. None of the servers smiled and looked happy to be there. Our waitress did not come check in on us. The shrimp was over cooked and crawfish was not good. The fried fish and calamari were okay. They literally charge you for ketchup, mayo, and tatar sauce that taste like mayonnaise. I do not recommend this place at all! It's all about customer service and unfortunately it was just not good! Garlic butter crab was some of the best seasoned crab I had! I found the spice levels a little misleading, as the medium spice crawfish wasn't all too spicy, but that might just be a product of my spice tolerance. Love the messiness of it all, made the experience so much fun! read more

Ewww 1) Shrimp, potatoes, sausage, corn in garlic sauce... shrimp was sweet but soft, garlic was abundant but raw, corn (frozen) was overpowered by garlic, sausage was soggy & gritty, potatoe was perfect. Soft shell crab basket - crab body wasn't cleaned -- super fishy. Fries were hot & crisp & spicy. Gumbo was sweet... weird. Ate 3 shrimp, 1 potatoe, 3 bites of gumbo, 3 bites of corn, 1/4 of 1 soft shell crab, & fries. $57. Oh! And everything came out one thing at a time. Weird. The Boiling Crab has opened up its first location in Austin during the season we needed it most. Crawfish farming and catching in 2024 is at a record low, so my partner and I had to try this place out to satisfy the seasonal craving. On a Saturday evening, we had about an hour wait. The plaza has good parking and there's other things around to kill some time. The host seemed very irritated to be there while the hostess working that day got us seated once our reservation moved up to first in line. The place has some booths and a crab shack kind of decor, so don't expect to look fancy in your bib and gloves. As for the food, I opted for crawfish and some blue crabs. Blue crabs need at least 2 crabs ordered which was about 1.5 lbs. Crawfish was ordered with the shebang sauce and at a mild spice level. I would say mild is the perfect level if you're looking to build spice slowly over time and still be enjoyable if you're a bit sensitive to it like I am. The shebang flavor is great, definitely addicting and I didn't feel like I needed to order anything extra juicy for the 2 lbs of crawfish. Adding a corn on the cob is more like 1/3-1/2 of a cob with little flavor or use. I would say skip it. The $7 for the sausage is a bit pricey but definitely a good addition in terms of taste. The crawfish itself ranged in size but erred a bit smaller. However, with the catches lately, I couldn't blame them too much. I would have to come back a different season to compare the sizes. I only had 2 dead (prior to boiling) crawfish which I considered pretty good. The blue crab was okay, but I generally enjoy crawfish more than the crab due to the work-to-meat-ratio. Ordering a sauce on the side is recommended. The garlic butter is in about a 1-2 oz little cup, but they also bring salt and pepper and juicy limes to mix so I didn't end up running out of sauce. I had a good meal, service wasn't bad, but the food ran a bit expensive. Crawfish was $15/lb while blue crab was $13/lb. It'll add up quickly considering I know many people that can easily down many pounds of crawfish. Ultimately pretty good in terms of flavor but will have to properly see how this place is when the crawfish isn't so scarce anymore. read more

The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because of the shrimp... it had that mushy texture as if they smushed them and cooked them and it wasn't just one it was almost 1/2 a pound . Crawfish was flavorful . They come by and give you a cup with salt and pepper with a side of lime.. try it was delicious when you dip the crawfish tail in it . Snowcrab was amazing. SHABANG SAUCE - enough said. Love the spice and flavor. Definitely on the pricier end - all the fixings are extra in addition to the crawfish. Blue crab was surprisingly juicy and fresh. The catfish and fries were good but nothing special. Gloves were flimsy and we had to switch them out twice because it get breaking with holes. Highly recommend! This is hands down the best crawfish I have ever eaten in town. I been to pretty much every crawfish place in town too. I got the flavor The Whole Sha-Bang. That's the go to flavor you should pick. The shrimp, snow, and king crab were very flavorful. The wings are really tasted and crispy. The fries have a very good seasoning on them. I been there twice now and they have not disappoint. Went two weekends in a row and it was packed but we were quickly seated each time so that was a plus. Our first visit we ordered a couple lbs of crawfish, a lb of shrimp, 2 soft shell crabs, added a few potatoes and eggs, a kids chicken basket, a fried catfish basket which was roughly around $90. 1st visit everything was pretty good aside from the overcooked crabs which got removed but the real highlight both time La was the catfish basket. The fish is fried perfectly; crispy outer, flaky and seasoned really well..best fish I've had in a while. 2nd visit we made a family outing so we had a slightly bigger party, this time we ordered crawfish, shrimp, catfish basket, kids chicken and a couple margaritas. The margaritas are super limey and don't taste like they have any liquor at all (the premixed margaritas at HEB are more potent), the boiled seafood was overcooked, which made the shrimp hard to peel, the entire table felt like the crawfish tasted frozen not fresh. Market prices are wild: snow crab is $32 a lb and king is $70 we passed after seeing multiple tables only receive one cluster. Service is decent since they are a really busy establishment, literally any server will help you out and multiple check on you throughout the meal. That and the catfish basket is why this is a 3 star review. Bottom line this place is good in comparison to other options here locally but it's def overhyped and overpriced. Sadly the best thing they have to offer is the fried foods. I would return solely to order the fish, nothing more. read more

Great idea, but poor execution and way over priced for what it is..Love the concept and atmosphere. A few things to note: no silverware (all plastic), no draft beer- all bottles, and no buckets to put your empty shells in, you have to use plastic bags to discard shells, no biggie but kind of annoying when you're hands are a mess trying to put the shells into a plastic bag. Provide a bucket to throw the shells in, just seems like they don't want to have to wash any utensils or buckets. The crawfish were great and the seasoning options were tasty but for $15/lbs that's way overpriced. I understand the price for crawfish is based on availability but I just looked at the price per pound at Shoal Creek Saloon and it's $9/lbs. It's was great to check out a new local spot, but just don't seeing us come here very often. read more

First tried this place out in Dallas so I was exited to see we finally got one. Their shabang sauce is second to none. By far the best sauce in Austin! I love how they load it with chunks of garlic. We waited about an hour but that was to be expected since they just opened a few days ago. Services was really good. It wasn't too crazy packed inside. My only complaint was that I asked for a pound of snow crab and only received 1 claw. Waiter said that next time i can let them know to get me exactly a pound so they can pull the heavier crabs because sometimes they go a little under. For the price I need my whole pound. This place has a seatown vibe about it. By that I mean the seafood is great and the flavors and seasoning is even better. I have read a lot of reviews about the long wait, our party was able to get a table instantly when we walked into the restaurant on a Tuesday night. On weekends obviously expect to wait.
