Definitely not bias because I have tried multiple spots on Oahu that offers seafood boil; but till this day, Boiling Crab has been my number one favorite. If you're gonna sell seafood boil at a restaurant you gotta make sure you know how to season the food. I feel like that's a given but I've tried other places and they don't bring the heat unlike this place. Seafood is tasty which I appreciate because believe it or not I've had some bad crab legs and I don't know how a restaurant can serve bad crab legs if the whole reason for people to eat at your restaurant is to eat good seafood. I digress. Service is good as usual, the staff is friendly and always assures you if anything else is needed. Even the manager/chef (I assume) will personally come to your table to greet you which is refreshing. The restaurant itself is clean and continues to keep brining me back. Only reason why I would rate 4 stars is because you pay a lot for the combo. I personally would like more seafood if I'm paying that much. Customer service in the front is horrible. What a lame policy, have to wait for everyone? The worse policy, like I'm not about to drop a whole bunch of money and order ahead of time for my family? My husband was just parking the car in the lot. I have young children and elderly parents with me and ready to eat (which is why my husband dropped us off by the sidewalk so they didn't have to walk far). I think if the manager and hostess observed that there were at least 3 to 4 empty tables to accommodate my family (young children and elderly) sitting right away. Is this a family restaurant? 5pm on a Sunday was NOT busy. I do enjoy seafood, but the policy should be flexible with some circumstances. I was so happy to know there was a boiling crab in Honolulu and knew we had to go!! We came around 6 pm on a Saturday and was expecting it to be jammed packed like the one in Vegas but luckily there was no wait and we were seated right away! We got half a dozen oysters to start and they were huge and fresh! We also shared a basket of fried catfish and they were delicious! We got the crab leg combo medium spice in the everything sauce (I got a side in the extra hot) and loved the flavor! Only reason I'm giving it a 4/5 star is because of the service. The anticipating for things was just lacking. It wasn't busy and everyone just kinda hung out behind the bar. No spoons for the rice so we had to wait and find someone to get us spoons. I'm so happy we chose this place to eat for dinner! Friendly staff all around which made me feel so comfortable, it was busy so we had to wait but that wasn't a problem at all and so worth it in the end. We got the combo with snow crab, had a side of Cajun fries and gumbo! It was a perfect portion for 2 people. The absolutely must order is their Cajun fries with crab on top (I forget the name of it)... that was the best part of our whole meal-- BEST fries I've had in a while. For 5 adults and one toddler, our total was close to $300. We had a good amount of leftovers, but for the price, I expected more in terms of freshness and variety. One thing to note: the parking system at SALT is a hassle. Unless you've already set up your credit card with the app ahead of time, it's not very user-friendly -- especially for older people like my parents. It's all digital, and you must remember to scan the validation QR code from the restaurant, or you'll be charged the full rate. For how much we spent on the meal, it's disappointing that parking wasn't fully covered. At that price point, it should be. If you're wondering if you can handle a higher spice level the answer is probably no. We ordered the mild and it definitely had some heat! Our daughter took one bite and said it was too spicy, so my wife and I tried it as well and agreed it definitely was a bit spicy for our daughter. We let our server know, and she was helpful and took it back. When the dish returned, we were told the kitchen said it was made non-spicy--but it still tasted spicy to us. We politely asked for a new one with no spice. At that point, the cook came out and immediately had an attitude, asking what was wrong with it and insisting he made it correctly. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, he was defensive and rude, even shaking his head as he walked away. Because of how uncomfortable the situation became, we decided to just cancel the order. Before leaving, we asked to speak to a manager. Unfortunately, the same person who cooked the shrimp came out--and he was even more unprofessional. As we tried to calmly explain the situation and how he came across, he told us we could leave and said he would call security. That was honestly shocking. For context, I'm a cook and my wife is a server, so we understand how the restaurant industry works. Mistakes happen--that's not the issue. It's how they're handled. My husband and I went to The Boiling Crab the other weekend with my son and daughter in-law. They have gone several time before but this was our first time. The food was great and very favorable without being spicy. My husband cannot eat spicy food but our waitress was very sweet and assured us that they could make it not spicy. Even the nightly manager came by to check on us and gave us suggestions on what to get. We ordered the non-spicy crab boil and added on more shrimp and crab legs. We also took him up on his suggestion with the fried soft shell crabs. They were cooked to perfection and I REALLY enjoyed them. He was so friendly and made our first time experience AMAZING! We celebrated Fat Tuesday at The Boiling Crab! We ordered the crawfish, shrimp, sausage and potato boil with the medium whole shabang sauce which is about a spice level of 7-8. Our tastebuds were tingling in the best way and I couldn't get enough of their garlic and Cajun spice sauce. It was so flavorful and all of the boil selections hit the spot! The gumbo was super flavorful and rounded out the meal perfectly. This was the closest we could get to NOLA seafood boils for Mardi Gras in Hawaii and we're grateful we could satisfy our craving! My first time trying this place despite going to the kakaako/SALT area at least weekly because none of my friends like shellfish/are allergic, but I decided on New Year's Eve f*** it I'm gonna order an entire crawfish combo meal for MYSELF as a treat (I am 90 pounds soaking wet) And whew what a treat it was. This was definitely a two person endeavor. I got all the sauces, extra sauce, medium spice (it was hot !!!) and they gave me lemons and salt pepper. The crawfish combo came with a ton of crawfish, half a pound each of clams, fat mussels, and head on shrimp. Plus rice, yummy sausages, corn, and potato's which were very good but I focused on the seafood. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. as soon as the lovely server put the little crab bib on me, I felt like Jim Carrey putting on the green mask from The Mask (1994). I must've been possessed or something cuz I blacked out and ate all that seafood and one side of rice and some potato by myself. I had sausages/corn/potato's for leftovers but all that yummy shellfish was demolished and the heads of the crawfish and those huge shrimps sucked dry. Threw in a modelo with my meal and that was a real cherry on top. Didn't need gloves and I felt feral scooping up sauced up rice with my hands, the way it should be. Love the interior with the Christmas lights still on the ceiling!! Should def keep them up, they keep the place bright and lively. It was just me with my 4 pounds of food and some friends watching me do a mukbang on FaceTime before I requested some privacy with my meal because I needed to lock in. Their music always has us dancing in our seats while we eat. We tend to get the crawfish combo because my little one loves crawfish... but he also loves mussels and clams! We get our food seasoned with butter and garlic and no spice since we are not too fond of spicy food.
