Been to this location twice already and it has not disappoint. We came here on a Thursday night and were already having trouble finding parking. We almost gave up and go somewhere else, but decided to stick around. When we finally parked, there was already a long line ahead of us. The worker there told us it would be a 20 mins wait, but we got in faster than the predicted time. Despite being busy, the waiter was really attentive. We got our order within minutes. Bought to go. We purchased 1 lb of shrimps, 1 lb of clams, and 2 orders of deep fried oysters. With the shrimps and clams, we were wondering if they weighted them with the sauce inside because there were so little shrimps and clams. With the deep fried oysters, it looked like pop-corn chicken. I used to love this place so much and would always drive to Alhambra to get some of this finger licking goodness until the quality of the shrimp went down and then I stopped! I recently gave this place another try and remembered why I fell in love in the first place! The atmosphere is loud and upbeat making me feel comfortable and casual. Their shrimp quality has definitely improved from the pinky sized lumpiness! My favorite thing about this place is that they allow you to get in line through the yelp check in! Be warned that they do skip parties who do not check in within five minutes so that means your spot would come a lot sooner than you'd think! Also, I am going to rave about their lemon pepper fries for a quick minute. I used to be so into their cajun fries but after having a well seasoned batch of lemon pepper fries, I simply can't go back! It was soooo good! My go to order is half a pound of shrimp, whole shabang (all the sauces mixed together), medium spicy, and with a corn on the side ($1.75)! Sooo good!! My dad (who can not eat spicy for his life) gets the lemon pepper flavor with no spicy! He is now able to enjoy it with me without sweating buckets! I also appreciate how quick the servers are here. Came here last night got some Togo 2 lb shrimp 2lb mussels and king crab. Everything tasted over cooked and salty tonight.. the best part it's 6 am now and I just survived the long night of food poisoning which ended up me throwing up because I couldn't stand it. So I've been here many times. Today was the worst experience ever! First they got my order wrong and tried to give me frozen crawfish. But thats understandable so when they fixed it and gave me my fresh crawfish, I let it slide. When i was peeling the crawfish, the shells were so hard, it was so hard to open up the head to SUCK on. When I was able to pry it open I found that the brains were still goey in some so i didnt bother eating it. I should've just stop eating but hey i didnt want to waste the last of the fresh crawfish. Also, I had to throw away 2 fried oysters becuase they were so fishy and I could tell something was wrong. Another sign that today was gonna be a bad day. But I kept going because i was so hungry. Came home with a stomach ache and twisting pains. I ended up throwing up everything on the side walk, i couldnt even make it into the house. So now I feel like poop from food poisoning. 2 key points here. One, if the crawfish is later in the season and the shells are harder. You need to cook longer to get it to cook properly, you cant cook at the same rate and time as the younger crawfish at the beginning of the season. Two.. Check the oysters carefully before frying. I tried to call to talk to the manager to tell him so that no one else will get sick. This is what i get... 1st call, I'm on hold for almost 10 minutes. 2nd call, the min i ask for the manager... click, the girl didnt even ask what for. 3rd call, same as 2nd call... Click.... I came to place a take out order. There are 28 chairs near the take out order area. After I finished placing my order. I asked nicely if I could sit while I waited for my order. I was told NO. That was for employees. Didn't realize that 28 employees take or need a the chairs to sit at once. What kind of place doesn't offer a place to sit and wait for your order. Comparing this to the other boiling crab locations around the area, this place definitely has more room, similar to their Costa Mesa location. Came here on a Saturday night to pick up to go, and the food was ready when I walked in which was perfect (I called 10 minutes before). There were long lines of people waiting outside, and plenty of TVs inside. They're located near the freeway at the back of the Rosemead plaza, which made it fairly easy to find parking. There were three things that I thought were not living up to its expectations, hence the 4 stars. 1. The shrimp I got were not fresh. The meat was mushy and you could tell the quality is subpar. 2. Shrimp is now $14/lb. I am aware that the price has been increasing the past several years but it is now at a 50% price increase for the past 5 years!! 3. This is a minor complaint - I wish they had more garlic in their shabang sauce! Comparing to the other times I've had it, this time eating their shrimp shabang style didn't leave me feel like a walking garlic. Overall though, still great experience. The only bad thing that I would say is that if you order extra juicy sauce, sometimes it comes cold and they don't want to reheat it for you. The butter on the extra juicy starts to look foggy and thickens which means it's getting cold ( probably has been sitting for more that 20 minutes). And when I ask for a hit one they get mad and don't want to give you a hot one. That say that it looks like that because it separates. But separated is one thing and cold is another. I like that this location is bigger and the ventilation is decent so you don't come out smelling like garlic seafood but the food is only okay The main reason why this BC doesn't get anything higher than a 3 star is because they are so stingy with their sauce. It's so dry compared to all the other locations and the sauce is more watery so it doesn't latch onto your seafood the way it does at other locations. Also, the garlic pieces in the whole shabang sauce is super huge and not minced enough. I didn't remember to take a picture before feasting and my hands were dirty but the fries portion on the fried basket were also really small compared to other locations. This location is good with space but not so much the quality in sauce and portion. Service was decent. We were there during shift change so the guy that took our order told us our server is actually some other dude and we literally never saw him until the very very end. But, I heard the wait time here is more bearable than at the other location in Main St. I always ordered Boiling Crab to go because didn't find the attraction to wait in line and eating at home is kinda the same, but make sure to ask for the table paper and bibs. My order always consisted of shrimp (whole shabang sauce), fried calamari, and fried catfish basket (comes with fries). On other days, I would add sausages or corns or fried oyster.
