Stopped by for our first time today. There was a waiting list and though they said 30 minutes wait time, it ended up being much shorter. Service was excellent in every way and our veggie omelettes were delicious. I like all the side options that go with the omelette including refried or black beans. We absolutely love this place, we share a seafood omelette with salmon, shrimp and asparagus topped with the owner's secret sauce, choice of sides but we love the black beans and home fries as our choice. The coffee is the best too, top quality coffee not just restaurant grade. The owner worked in a French restaurant and knows a lot of cooking secrets besides the key to freshness and is always so nice and friendly even though working so hard. For the hearty eater, the charcuterie breakfast platter is insane and glorious, we love to see it come out but it's enormous and has every goodie on it. We love this piece of heaven and were afraid to post and have it be too packed but Omar is so wonderful, he started it right before the pandemic and managed to stay open to our delight. read more

Very late post but necessary to post as it was our first time here with a large group (about 15) during a tournament on August 7th, 2022. Top notch service!!! The owner had seen I put our name on the waiting list and we sat outside with our group. He came over and addressed us to let us know that he was trying to accommodate us as soon as possible. He showed us the two spots that we might sit either inside or outside. We ended up sitting at some gathered tables outside and they were quick to take our orders as we told them we already knew what we wanted before we sat down. All the food came out delicious and the whole group loved their meals and the service!!! I believe this is a new place in Oceanside, so we went to try it for brunch one day. We ordered french toast, coffee, and pancakes. The food wasn't amazing (my french toast was soggy, coffee was watered down, and pancakes were just OK), but it was presented very nicely. I'd recommend trying it out but I probably won't be back. One of our go to breakfast places. Their banana flambé French toast is delicious and not to be missed. Also, my husband loves the biscuits and gravy. I would have given 5 stars except they have a difficult time making eggs. My husband like his over easy but they're invariably slightly over cooked. I like mine over medium (with runny yolk) but they come out almost hard. Seems like eggs should be something a cook should be able to master fairly quickly. I love The Breakfast Mug, it reminds me of the kind of breakfast you wake up to at home on a Sunday morning cooked by dad. The Mexican eggs are by far my favorite with chopped onions, Serrano peppers, tomatoes, and a side of salsa. And the salsa they serve is delicious in flavor. The fruit is sweet and fresh. The bacon is crunchy-soft and salty. My husband has tried the pancakes and French toast, and they're goooood! Not to mention the service is fantastic. A welcoming place for a cup of coffee and eggs. It's been awhile since I have been to a breakfast spot that i loved. Everyone there was nice and the service and food were amazing.

Came here a few Saturdays ago, just not good at all. First off we told them we didn't like the coffee because it had a sour taste to it so a man walked over and slammed two cups of water on the table super rudely he seemed to maybe be the owner. Our server was a joke, didn't introduce himself at all just walked up and said "ready to order" my wife ordered chilaquiles with eggs over med the egg came out over easy and the salsa on the chilaquiles was way to spicy. Chilaquiles should have some spice but not so overwhelming hot to where you can't even eat it. We didn't say anything because of how that man acted we just paid our bill and left. But a good server would have realized that my wife barely touched her plate and asked if the food was ok. I had the chicken and waffles what a joke that was, the chicken the used was super dried out flat boneless chicken beast that they fried, sorry but you need bone in chicken when doing chicken and waffles definitely won't be coming back here and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I love brunch and breakfast this is why I wanted to come here I came here with my boyfriend and we were able to enjoy our time here we were immediately greeted upon arrival and seated we each got one of the fun mugs to begin with. The atmosphere is really cute and settling in makes it really really comfortable experience. I'd eat the breakfast board when I came in didn't realize how big it would be if I was pleasantly surprised with all the options I had and my boyfriend order the chicken Machaca. The girl who shot us was very polite and very helpful with the menu. I didn't provide five stars as the restaurant wasn't wearing mask. I felt very uncomfortable with our food being served without mask but I'll look past it this time and hope that this restaurant can adhere to CDC policies moving forward. read more

We ordered the chilaquiles plate, the huevos rancheros plate and the French toast combo, the chilaquiles were delicious, nice portion served with eggs, the huevos rancheros were ok, the sauce and eggs were good, but the tortillas underneath tasted raw, usually the are fried with beans but these had none, don't think I'll ever order this again. The French toast were good and tasty, served with whipped cream and fresh strawberries, it's a good portion if you get it alone, but if you get it as a combo like my daughter did, it's huge, almost shareable, same portion of toast along with eggs and bacon, she couldn't finish it. I like that they keep asking you if you need more coffee refills, I hate eating breakfast and running out of coffee, or having to chase the server to get a refill. read more

I don't leave many negative reviews but this place was such a disappointment. I understand when you tell me it's a 30-35 minute wait and it's more like an hour. That happens. When we finally got a table and ordered food I asked for my home fries to be extra well done because I had noticed in other peoples photos they are very light. The server said she has to order them the same way so she understood. I also asked for cheese in my meat lovers omelette. When my plate came out the potatoes were not well done at all so I asked if they could cook them a little longer, no big deal. She brought me back my plate of just the omelette and I cut into it and there was no cheese so I had to send that back also. They just threw some raw cheese on it didn't melt it and she brought it to me. When the potatoes came out they had deep-fried chunks of potatoes but then added RAW onion and uncooked ham (out of nowhere). Nope. The first potatoes and onions were not well done enough but at least they were cooked. The server dropped them and ran away. I'm sure she was embarrassed to even deliver them. She was busy but never apologized really for the whole mess up on my food. Nothing was seasoned at all so the flavors just weren't even there anyway. Did I mention while we were waiting for our food something in the kitchen burned and filled the place up with smoke? And then before we were done they put a sign up that they were closed because they had run out of food?! That was about 12:15 PM. I won't go back. I originally came here when they first opened back in Feb 2020. I was not impressed but at the time I blamed it on them being brand new and thought they just needed to work out their kinks. I'm sad to report I returned a year later and they are still struggling. I've been here twice now with bad experiences. They have a few fancier coffees on their menu a "mugs mocha" and a Carmel coffee with Irish liquor. They both tasted incredibly watered down. Literally coffee-ish water for $5? They know you can't just add ice to hot coffee right? Iced coffee needs to be made differently to avoid this. The potatoes were not fully cooked. No one is sadder about this review than I am. I really want to like this place since it's a breakfast spot in my backyard and would be super convenient to become a regular here. I hope they get it together. Maybe I'll retry again in a year? You ever read some people's reviews and wonder if the person is even talking about the same place? That's my thought when I read the 1-2 star reviews. This place is great...as evidenced by the overwhelming number of 4-5 star reviews. Everyone knows that people are more likely to leave bad reviews than good ones and the fact the good ones outnumber the bad by a huge margin says a lot about those poor reviews. I'm from Ohio and never have had good biscuits and gravy in California, until Breakfast Mug. It's the best I've had outside of the Midwest. The other three with me all very much enjoyed their meals as well. The service was very good and we were seated quickly, even on a Sunday midmorning. Just a word about the potatoes since so many Karen's have bitched about pictures looking too white. What an absurd thing to write before having eaten them. They are not undercooked at all. Most likely they are steamed and the fried, which takes less time. They're delicious. The portions are not small. More nonsense. The portions are more than most will eat and the quality is great. Thought we'd give this relatively new place a try.... The Good: service was good. Friendly and polite crew, kept the coffee coming.. The Food... The Nutella & Strawberry French Toast was excellent. However, the "sausage gravy" on their biscuits & gravy was (literally) inedible. It was a gray, gelatinous lump of flavorless "putty". Think of the thickest porridge your Grandma ever served you and you will have an idea of the consistency of this stuff. At the risk of sounding Cliche' it was just like wallpaper paste... Sadly, wallpaper paste would have tasted better. Seriously, this stuff was like thick lard with chunks of flavorless tofu.... Gray, thick, flavorless... The Country Breakfast was good. Tasty pork sausage, good hash browns... I added a couple of fried eggs and they too, were excellent. Flavorful, and cooked to perfection. SUMMARY. They try hard. At a time when its tough to get employees, this spot has friendly and polite staff. Their food was "OK" with the obvious exception of the "sausage gravy" (honestly not sure that it was actually even sausage in there) Ther menu has a pretty good variety of mexican inspired dishes too. read more

I wanted so badly to love this place. I saw it posted on Around the Town & the pics looked so delicious & reviews seemed good . We decided to try it on Sat, Labor Day weekend. When we got there, there were about 4 families ahead of us and it said about a half hour wait. No problem. We would wait. While waiting, for a good 20m we saw a few empty 4 seater tables outside and couldn't understand why they weren't seating the families that had already been waiting. They also had a 2 person party at a 4 seater table but the 2 seater table was left empty. Which made no sense, but who are we to question it. Anyway, the wait was actually almost an hour and that was fine. I had wanted to eat there so badly for a while now and it seemed like it would be worth the hour wait. Plus they let you know in advance, they don't rush. They have a slightly rude and to the point sign that states they do not rush food or service so basically don't ask, and if you want to be in and out in an hour, go elsewhere because they aren't the place for that. At least they are honest and full warn you, but it's a bit...standoffish. There's other ways to state your point with humor. We did laugh a bit at it but not for the humor, mainly because we found it standoffish and because It ends with "be kind to those who showed up to work today". Well, be appreciative of those who showed up to spend their money at your business and appreciate that as well. Especially, during a time where so many are hurting for business. We got seated inside after about an hour and had another 10-15 min wait for a server to ask us if we wanted water. While waiting they burned something so the smell was a bit overwhelming but manageable. I'd say sit outside if you can. They were busy and so our waiter was in a hurry so we made sure to just order our food at the same time as he was asking about water or coffee. It took about 20 mins for our food to arrive. Presentation was okay. Pancakes looked pretty. We got the fruit topped pancakes along w eggs & bacon, the chiliquilles w/green sauce, and a side of biscuits and gravy as we wanted to try it. The portions are pretty good! You can share the pancake combo and definitely the chiliquilles plate. The pancakes are good but they come with dulce de leche (sweet condensed milk) on top of them so if you don't like that be sure to omit it. It's thick and though not horrid, it takes away from the pancakes and if adding syrup, makes it way too sweet. I personally do not care for it in anything I eat and realized what it was when I took a bite. The fresh fruit is nice and sweet. The chiliquilles were good. I did ask for them to be crispier and that was not done. But that's fine. They come with what I think is bits of Canadian bacon which is new as I've never made them or had them with ham mixed in. Still good tho. The green chile verde sauce that goes over the food has flavor and is a bit spicy so that was perfect as I like mine super spicy. They give you the egg on the side and it's a good portion. The beans, they are dry and not the best refried, but I didn't plan to eat them either way, so it was fine. You do get fresh fruit with the plate so that was good. And the portions are large. The biscuit and gravy was exactly as others have stated. Super thick, small biscuits, and flavor is okay. I've definitely had better, and definitely have had worse, so it's in between. I won't order it again if I ever go back but I was glad to try it. The service was mediocre. Again, they were busy and our waiter was rushed - even spilling my water refill and not cleaning it. On a small 2 seater table that barely had room for the plates was not fun to move around to do it myself, but hey, he was busy. Overall, the food was good, but it was not great as I had anticipated. I have had better. They do make most upon order so it's freshly made which is why you wait so long so that is appreciated. Its definitely not Dennys. It's not cheap - $50 with tip for 2, but it's not anymore than most places these days. I am not sure if I will come back again. There are SO many mom & pop shops all over that we love supporting that have excellent food and service. But we might give it another try as every place usually deserves a second chance, and maybe it was just a bad time being it was a holiday wknd. Who knows.
