Fries are delicious. The steak and cheese was very good, although slight grease bomb. However, this review is for the MS PAC MAN MACHINE in the broiler. It is one of THE GOOD ONES! Straight from the 80s. In perfect working condition with no upgrades. The machine shows authentic wear and tear of a well used machine. The sides clearly exhibit hand marks and dirt from those before us, gripping and steadying their bodies to take on Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde. It is an authentic and perfectly well oiled machine. This was pretty dang tasty - for about 10 bucks, I got a small mushroom, cheese and steak sandwich and some fries... The fries were freaking awesome - and the sandwich, sooo good. By far my favorite pizza ever. Its greasy and cheesy but I've never had another like it. I grew up on this place since I was a little kid. Management had changed several times over the decades but the pizza has stayed the same. Get the sausage if you like a little kick (not hot, just spicy). Meatball if you can't handle the sausage. The Broiler reminds me of any typical Baltimore mom-and-pop carry out. The food is made to order and is fresh. The food is also abundant. The chicken cheesesteaks are gooey with cheese and are fantastic. The French fries are the perfect level of crispy and salty. The lemonade is a pre-diabetic sweet, which is the best when you get a cheese steak. We have come here several times in the past few weeks and we have to be disappointed. Service is fast efficient and polite. They have a pretty consistent flow of customer traffic. They have a pretty decent amount of on site seating and they have a Ms. Pacman game in the corner. Parking maybe tight during rush hour but it is available on site. I have never had an issue with parking but there is some off street parking nearby. My husband & I have been going to the broiler for the past 10 years and we always get the steak & cheese, it's under seasoned but decent steak & cheese for the dmv area, nothing to brag about. So the other day we decided to get a large pizza & boy it was disgusting, first of I don't know what type of dough they are using because it's definitely not a pizza dough, it tasted like lasagna, when the cheese and toppings fell of the pizza the dough even looks like a lasagna layer plus the taste was gross, we tossed the whole pizza in the garbage. The best pizza in Northern Va bar none. You will keep coming back day after day to eat it. I tell all my Uber customers, "eat this pizza at your own risk!" It is like eating a watermelon with a spoon. Each bite is more delicious and more juicier than the last. My friends and family have been going to the Broiler for as long as I can remember. The staff has changed along the way but the food has remained pretty consistent . The piazza is as good as you will find in Arlington. I have a fondness for the hot ham and cheese. I always order the same thing. Piazza with sausage and pepperoni and a hot ham and cheese. The sausage is spicy and flavorful and the pepperoni is just perfect. The staff has always been friendly . The only thing I would change is I would like the crust to be a little crisper. The best subs in Arlington, and some of the best I've ever had outside of Philly, the sacred land of subs. The Broiler has been there forever, and for generations it has satisfied scores of people. The subs are made with love and you can tell it when you bite into one. They have pretty good pizza too, but because I'm lactose intolerant the most I can do is some provolone on a sub. This is by far the best pizza!!! In the metropolitan area or DMV. I'm from Brooklyn NY and this pizza has a taste that better than any pizza ive ever had in NY. If you like Arby's meat, you will love The Broiler beef. The Steak & Cheese is not very good.. it is pricey 7$ for a 6" hoagie roll with a measly amount of meat with a slice of provolone cheese. The beef is dry and tasteless, not much cooked carnalized onions.. they pile a bunch of lettuce and a slice of this or that. The works does not help much at all.. if you want a decent steak & cheese, you need to find it somewhere else. A good steak & cheese uses thin sliced ribeye beef, and is very juicy and fresh. This meat was bone dry cheap stuff you get at Arby's because they use the same processed meat loafs, and probably not even freshly cooked or sliced.. nasty. read more

The Broiler is an insider, locals only joint. It's a bit further down Columbia Pike than most people that don't live there venture. In a boxy, 70's style orange building, it's hard to miss, but I can imagine how many would drive by and never notice it. The pizza is that typical Ledo/Pizza Pantry/Mario's style pizza. A little thin, a lot greasy, with sauce that is sickeningly sweet like ketchup. Some people like this style. I don't. That's fine, because they happen to have one of the better Philly Cheesesteaks I've had in DC. Lacking Cheez Whiz, it still manages to capture the taste I want in my cheesesteak, and all at an affordable price. The only one better in this area is the Del Ray steak joint down Mt Vernon towards Braddock Road Metro. I'd also highly recommend the crinkle cut french fries, which for some reason, taste exceptional. If you'd like to feel like a real Arlington insider, this is a place to name drop. Some of the best mom 'n' pop pizza in the DMV area. Somehow, it tastes like baked mac and cheese, but still pizza-licious. I've been going here for years, and now can fortunately go more often as I work in Arlington and live in Old Town, so the Broiler is kind of on the way home. The large pizza is a bit smaller than what one might be used to in a large; if you have two hungry piglets it won't be enough. I usually pick up two large cheese to feed three, or even two--next-day lunch is always on the agenda anyway, isn't it? Pizzas here are rectangular, so you'll get a few crust-less squares, always a bonus. A bigger bonus is that there's an old-school Ms. Pac Man machine here. Biggest bonus? [3.5 stars] The Broiler is one of those small, greasy spoon typee places that seem to always catch my eye. They specialize in pizza (I have not yet tried) as well as burgers and cheese steaks. I usually enjoy the steaks myself, which I'd classify as good to better than most. Be sure to try the giant crinkle cut fries. Personally, I love them because they remind me of the ones I used to order at the bowling alley snack bar when I was a kid. Found this place on a Saturday when we were craving some cheesesteaks to go with our college football and beer....and it did not disappoint! We got 3 six-inch sandwiches and 2 orders of fries. We had a steak & cheese, chicken & cheese, and a veggie. All were delicious! Portions were really generous, the meat was well flavored, and the veggie sub was really tasty and filling. The veggie came with green peppers, mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, and melted provolone. So good! The fries portions were also very large - too much for 3 of us to finish. Service was awesome - so nice and very fast/efficient. There are a few tables in the restaurant, but parking is kind of tough. Might help to come with someone (especially on a weekend) in case you need to run in and have someone wait in the car. Bonus: A Ms. Pacman machine that lets you play for only 25 cents! read more

There are a ton of rave reviews for this place on Yelp, so I thought I'd try it out for lunch. As everyone says, it's a little hole in the wall, but that's no biggie. Some of the best food comes from sketch places. The guy at the counter was nice enough, and there's even a TV showing ESPN to watch, or an old school Ms. Pacman arcade game to play if you so desire. But on to the food... I can't testify to the pizza or the fries, as I only ordered a steak & cheese and a lemonade. The drinks are served with crushed ice, which is probably not all that special to anyone but me. It took maybe 5 minutes to prepare, so the wait wasn't bad, and it was piping hot when I got it. I was really excited to bite into this steak & cheese after everything I had read, but it was rather anticlimactic. The texture of the meat wasn't the best, but more than anything else, I was disappointed in the flavor. Simply said, there wasn't much. It didn't seem like there was any seasoning whatsoever on the grilled meat, and they relied solely on the mayo-grease mix to provide flavor. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't noteworthy like everyone here makes it out to be. I may return at some point to try the pizza, but I won't make it a point to go soon. As others said, this is one of those "local joints" that the Travel Channel should really visit one day. There's an old school feel to it since there's a dirty but clean ambience in the restaurant and there's very little parking. The staff are friendly and they all wear aprons! I always get the mushroom steak and cheese or cheesesteak with everything on it and I'm never disappointed! Everything is reasonably priced. Also, they aren't shy with the fries! MM! OH, also when getting the drink, the lemonade iced tea (1/2 lemonade 1/2 iced tea) is a good choice! Pizza is also good, but pretty oily. Overall, this would be one of my favorite spots. Just a tip, I wouldn't eat here everyday so as to avoid getting obese or dying of heart attack. =) read more
