I think I may have finally found my steakhouse. Wow! I did restaurant week 2014 here and I absolutely loved and devoured each of my 3 courses completely and would have gnawed on my steak bone had I not been in such a classy restaurant. The restaurant itself offers complimentary valet parking as soon as your drive up to the door followed by a coat check which is really nice (keeps the dining room cleaner looking and keeps my coat from any potential food related catastrophes). The staff is all mild mannered and professional, very friendly but not overly so, the service was excellent, never had to ask for water or wait long for my wine. They were very accommodating too with allowing me to actually taste the wine I was going to purchase than allowing me to be dissatisfied with an expensive glass of wine. I samples a total of four and I found one that made me melt, I didn't even care how much it coat at that point. Excellent excellent and attentive service! Top notch really. On to the food, oh my..... Lobster bisque with actual HUGE chunks of grilled lobster in my cup. Seriously one of the pieces was practically the whole claw. Heaven, though it could of used a little of the white cream I'm used to seeing drizzled or dolloped into this soup at other restaurants. My entree was this amazing bone in top sirloin that was grilled with kona coffee and had a shallot cream butter drizzled on top. Mouth-watering amazingness! Cooked to a perfect medium with the thicker portions of it a lil more medium rare that just had me doing flips in my head! I got the mashed potatoes as my accompaniment and they were so creamy.... So creamy, like the consistency of cool whip but with a ton more flavor with hints of garlic I suppose and of course butter. Gosh... They tasted even better when I mixed them with my steak juices on my plate! (Homer drool) The atmosphere is definitely high class and business casual but they didn't kick us out because he had on jeans. The lighting is perfect, not too dark but not too bright almost candlelight style without the candles. The noise level is fairly quiet even once the dining room is in full swing, I could hear my date just fine and I swear my hearing sucks. White table cloths everywhere, the place screams super elite and executive impressions, perfect place to really WOW someone awesome. read more

I want to like this place, really. My wife and I returned here after a year ago, when they placed us on a busy aisle during lunchtime. It was crazy. So when we went this week, I made the reservation online and asked for a quiet table. I have to give them credit: they put us back in a three table room next to the kitchen and at the back of the main room. There was no foot traffic at all. We only heard the roar of the main room and the occasional "cheeseburger!" Here again it strikes me that Cap Grille is one of those head scratching places where people pack in and pay exorbitant prices for food that is, well, it's not bad, but it doesn't justify the prices. Take MY cheeseburger, for example. I ordered it medium, and when I cut it in half, several ounces of "juice" came out. Clearly it was on the rare side of medium rare. Well, I've worked in restaurants, so I know that if I send back a medium rare anything, it will come back medium well. Not worth the bother. Also, the sauces that came on the side had the darkened film on them that you'd expect if they'd been pre-prepared oh, say, 90 minutes or 2 hours earlier. Again, I know because I did that when I worked in a kitchen as a high school kid. I suppose you could have a good time if you get a private room there. But as my wife said, at these prices, you ought to go to Ruth's Chris Steak House, where the service is excellent and the ambiance is so much better. We gave Cap Grille two tries. Came here for a birthday dinner with 5 people and It was a huge disappointment. The ribeye I ordered was terrible and tasted like a boot. They were nice enough to give me a NY strip instead but that was not good either. My brother in law got the porterhouse which was overcooked and had to be returned. We rarely return food but the steaks were just terrible and when you pay over $50 for a steak it should at least be decent. My dad has since come back for a work lunch and got the NY strip which he said wasn't very good. It almost seems like they use cheap meat and hope people won't notice the lack of quality. There are way better steakhouses in the area to spend your money at. read more

Restaurant week is a great time a year (that happens twice a year). for this round, a group of us went to the Capital Grille. I'd been there before for work, so this was the first time i was going with friends. The menu was pretty basic, but i'll go through the review by course. App: field greens or clam chowder I really like clam chowder, i like it chock full of clams, and with a good creamyness to it. Not only was their chowder flavorful, they even served it with my favorite brand of oyster crackers (yes, i have a favorite brand of oyster cracker) - Westminster. Entree: sirloin, filet, or chicken (maybe it was something else, but no one got the third option) I got the sirloin, as i like this cut of meat. i ordered it med-rare, which the waiter described as being red and warm in the center. this always worries me because more often than not, the steak comes out -not- as described. The steak was perfect - it could not have been cooked more perfectly, and i appreciate that. Sides (not included in restaurant week prix-fixe): sauteed mushrooms, potatos au gratin, lobster mac and cheese, creamed spinach There's something about eating steak that makes me want creamed spinach - it was very good, i could eat the creamed spinach and sauteed mushrooms all day long. The gratin and mac and cheese were very good as well, but for sides, i kind of lean towards the veggies than the starches to go with my steak dinner. dessert: flourless chocolate espresso cake or key lime pie for some reason the words "flourless" and "cake" shouldn't go together, and never appear appetizing on a menu - but when the cake came out it was very good - strong chocolate and espresso flavors and a really good surprisingly fluffy texture. The key lime pie was very tall (think cheesecake factory tall) and very good consistency. I prefer my key lime pies to be a little more tart, but this pie had some good crowd-pleasing appeal. The ambiance at the Capital grille is that of an old timey steakhouse - with paintings on the wall of people and horses, dark mohagony paneled walls, deep wrap-around bench seats, and white tablecloths. Its dimly lit throughout, with a private party room separated from the main dining room. The valet parking and complimentary coat check make the experience just that much more fancy. The servers are very good, giving menus to the ladies first, removing plates when the utensils were "signalled" correctly, taking orders from the same side of each person, etc - very professional and classy. For restaurant week, the 3 courses were $30.10 per person, but with the additional sides and gratuity we ended up spending about $50 per person - not too bad for a steak dinner. Unfortunately i don't splurge like this for dinner - but i do like it here, and its definitely worth it for a nice night out! read more

What is up with the service... My friend who treated me is decades past 21 and I am very well over 21. Why are we being carded when we request a $60 bottle of wine at the Capital Grille!?!?!!?! and the menu said the wine was 2008. Why are you bringing out and opening 2009?? Unbelievable. Seared tuna was slightly overcooked. Steak was definitely not medium (could have been medium for someone who doesn't know steak). Sauteed spinach was delicious. BUT the Chocolate Hazelnut Cake was phenomenal. I would go back just for desert. If we go back, we're going to the Capital Grille in DC. Tyson's corner is not seeing us again. read more

There aren't enough stars to rate our experience We went on a Monday evening for our anniversary. When we got there our table was ready. Because we had mentioned it was our anniversary the table was sprinkled with x's and o's confetti and candlelit. A very nice touch. Our waiter Pablo was very attentive and gave us just the right amount of service and alone time. The before meal cocktail was delicious and allowed us to peruse the menu unrushed. We shared a Cesar salad which was one of the best I've had. It had actual (optional) anchovies, a wonderfully sharp parmesan cheese and homemade dressing that accompianed the romaine. Highly recommended. I had the Filet Oscar and every bite was a delight. The lump crab meat, asparagus and Bearnaise sauce that topped the filet was so good it could have easily been a small pate offering on its own. Combined with the filet it was sheer perfection. My husband had the New York strip and proclaimed it awesome. We shared an order of mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. Both steaks were perfectly prepared. So often when we order steak at a restaurant it comes out wrong whether over or undercooked it is rarely how we ordered it. Not so at The Capital Grille. Order your steak medium and it comes out with a warm pink center. Perfect! Pablo offered to take photos of us with our camera and took one with theirs. Near the end of the meal, he brought it out in a paper frame with presented it to us as a gift. Combine the food, the staff and the ambiance and the experience was as good as it gets. While this is not a venue we could afford to frequent often we will certainly remember it for those special occasions when we are able to splurge. read more

We brought my mom here for her birthday and the Capital Grille did not disappoint. The only reason why I didn't give it five stars is because I know I can get the same food for half the price somewhere else. That being said, we had a very good experience overall. The men operating the complimentary valet service were efficient and courteous. The ladies at the hostess stand and coat check were professional and polite. The decor is what I would expect in an upscale restaurant without being unbearably stuffy. So far they had impressed us. I had mentioned it was my mom's birthday when I made the reservation but we were impressed that the hostess wished my mom a happy birthday. They also sprinkled confetti on the table and all of the staff wished her a happy birthday when they passed us. That made my mom feel special which was the whole point of going there. Anyway, on to the food. Yes, it is overpriced and yes, you can get the same food for half the price somewhere else. But, this is a nice restaurant and I knew I would be paying for the exclusivity and the ambiance. We ordered the french onion soup, the field greens salad, the lobster and crab cakes, the roasted chicken, the sliced filet mignon w/ cipollini onions and wild mushrooms, and the parmesan truffle fries. Everything was cooked to perfection; there were no complaints from anyone at the table. The french onion soup had great flavor without that weird beefy aftertaste some of them have. The salads weren't anything to write home about but they were a good size and were enough to share among two people. Mom remarked on the large and tasty pieces of lobster and crab in the lobster and crab cakes. She is picky about her seafood so that was a glowing review from her. The chicken was moist and you get a lot of it. The rub on the chicken gave it a nice flavor without being overpowering. The filet mignon was cooked as ordered and was flavorful with the mushrooms and onions. The french fries were a nice side and were the perfect amount for all four of us to have a generous handful. They had a great flavor that went perfectly with the chicken and filet. Dessert was complimentary for my mom and she ordered the cheesecake. We were all so full that we just had the waiter put it in a to-go box. I don't know how it was but I can imagine it was good. All in all I would say this is a great restaurant for a special occasion. With two light eaters in our group of four, our check, including three glasses of wine, was under $200 before tip. Not too bad. I would definitely go back for other special occasions. read more

I ordered the holidays at home dinner to pick up on 12/31. The good: Staff was very accommodating to me changing my pick up time (changed from 9pm to 3pm). They bought the food out to my car and the process for that was very seamless. Food was very tasty The not so good: They food was advertised to come with re-heating instructions, no such instructions were given The bad: I looked through the food after I drove off. While looking through the items, I noted that I was not able to easily identify the lobster mac. It looked like shrimp with pasta, not lobster mac and cheese. I called the restaurant to inform them that I could not locate the lobster mac, and instead it looked like I have been given shrimp pasta. I talked to the associate who answered the phone who then passed me to the manager. The manager kinda implied that perhaps I could not tell the difference between shrimp and lobster (If I were a sensitive person, maybe that would have upset me). I assured the manager, that what I had looked very much like shrimp. I also told her that I am allergic to shrimp, its its very important that I do not eat shrimp, else I would have an allergic reaction. She noted that they only shrimp they have in their kitchen is for their shrimp cocktail, so there is next to no way that I would have shrimp in my dish. I insisted on coming back to the restaurant, so that could be further investigated. She didn't think it necessary, but I insisted as allergies are nothing to be taken lightly. Upon arriving back at the restaurant, the manager took one look at it and said "that the shrimp scampi." But wait... didn't she say that the only shrimp in the kitchen was shrimp for the shrimp cocktail... nevermind :). I waited patiently at the front of the restaurant while she sorted it out, and she returned with a lobster mac. She apologized and said "we are really busy today." As though that is a valid reason to minimize a food allergy. I would have expected this to have been met with more concern knowing that there is a food allergy consideration. Also, given that i spent over $200 on a meal for two, a better level of service and care would have been expected. Everyone was very polite in all of their interactions with me, but just going forward, maybe take allergies a bit more seriously. read more

A regular to visit when we're in the mood for old school red meat since the location in the Tysons area (McLean, Va) is convenient. We're carnivores hehe. As an appetizer we usually have the pan fried calamari w/hot cherry peppers. Love the hot cherry peppers since I favor the tasty/spicy goodies. The side offerings (side dishes) are meant to be shared so order wisely. The main courses are what's to be expected of establishments like these. The hubs and I have tasted all of their dry aged cuts but I, myself, am a fan of the classic filet mignon (butterfly cut - medium rare). The only dessert that I have not tried is the coconut cream pie (don't like coconuts). They range from healthy/refreshing to decadent! The hubs usually orders from the port selections. I strongly suggest making reservations a few hours before arrival during the dinner rush. They offer valet parking and the host/hostess checks in your coat/jacket during the cold seasons. read more

The food was outstanding and well prepared. The bread was delicious as well and the waiter was knowledgeable. However, towards the end of the evening, the restaurant was clearing out and yet our service started lacking. It become less attentive as the evening went on whereas I expected it to be a little more on par. All in all, it was a nice evening with good food. The lobster mac and cheese was yummy. read more

HIGH ON PRICE, LOW ON QUALITY When you dine for the experience and are willing to pay for it, the restaurant should pay attention to the details. It's the difference between a decent restaurant and an excellent one. We started with the appetizers. The calamari topped with sauteed cherry peppers was average. It was a crunchy, vinegary spiciness in my mouth. Where is the calamari? The shrimp cocktail should be avoided at all costs. One shrimp was undercooked, another was mushy and yet another was severely overcooked. On the ice platter it resembled a gradual example of how shrimp looks at various cooking stages. If you love the traditional "Wedge" salad, no matter how tempting, do not have it here. What makes a terrific Wedge Salad is not the iceberg lettuce, nor the ripe tomato and not even the crunchy bits of bacon. The Wedge is all about the quality of the blue cheese dressing. I was missing the glorious tang from the dressing and chunks of the blue cheese that explodes flavor. Capital Grille's dressing was bland and altogether forgettable. My dining companion ordered the Steak Oscar, a filet mignon topped with alaskan king crab and bearnaise sauce. It was accompanied by creamed spinach and cut-up bits of asparagus. The filet mignon was diminutive in size. It was a sad, little thing that was completely overshadowed by the crab which was suspiciously too sweet. The bearnaise was boring. The creamed spinach should have been named creamed garlic. The garlic taste was too overwhelming and I love garlic. I don't know whose idea it was to cut the asparagus as if the restaurant caters to the geriatric but I can cut my own asparagus, thank you. I ordered a traditional filet mignon, medium rare, and received it medium. A quality steak house should have better temperature control. And my oval bowl of mashed potatoes was too gluttonous. Someone had gone trigger happy with the blender. I was eating potato porridge. For dessert we had the cheese cake which had not thawed completely in the center and an odd version of coconut cream pie recommended by the waiter. The pie was a cookie with a very thin layer of filling and mounds of whipped topping, bits of coconut and this weird drizzling of caramel rum sauce. I didn't taste rum and it was this opaque, runny drizzle. The color, sorry for being indelicate, resembled when my cat had diarrhea. And to top off the whole evening, I watched as our very white waiter removed the crumbs off the table of the two very white gentlemen next to us. But he never touched ours. As you can tell, I am not white and I am not sensitive about it. But I know when someone else is... The Capital Grille is a like an old boy's steak house that believes they are warm, friendly, and not elitist. At $200 for two people, I didn't get the experience I was looking for. I've had dinners at The Capital Grille multiple times and haven't had a bad meal yet. The service is top notch quality; very attentive and polite. Every time I've gone, I've made reservations; not sure if you can just walk in--especially on the weekends. When you go to a restaurant like this, you know the price range and the atmosphere you're getting yourself into. This is the only restaurant I've ever been to where the servers have business cards (assuming you request them for future dining). If you plan to drive, you have to hand your vehicle off to valet services so make sure to bring some small bill cash. Overall, it's a pleasant experience and worth the money. read more

I enjoyed the food but the service could've been a lot better. Please note that there is no happy hour. When I went there I asked about the happy hour specials and our waiter replied with "Every hour is happy hour" and then when I told her I was serious she said, "we don't do that here." .... Well that was awkward.... and embarrassing. I felt cheap and stupid after asking that. Our waiter seemed very persistent in having us order more than we wanted to and began to make us feel less when we wouldn't have another drink or extra sides. I didn't appreciate that. The lightening was very dim but I had no complaints about the food, other than the outrageous prices. I would probably come back but only on rare occasions. read more

Glad I went during Restaurant Week, because this place really was a let down. I, as most people, try to find really nice restaurants during restaurant week to experience some high class at reasonable prices. Maybe at the $35 price the food was good enough, but it wasn't for what's supposed to be one of the nicest restaurants in the area. I started with the Clam Chowder, which was pretty good. Nothing amazing, nothing bad though. I then chose the Rack of Lamb, which to my disappointment was overcooked (isn't this a grill??). I ordered medium and it came somewhere between medium-well and well-done. It was also lacking in flavor, and just tasted like I was chewing meat. My tongue was crying. My friend's portion for her steak was great, but mine was lacking (i'm 140 lbs, I'm not that demanding of portions. Come on now). We also got two sides: mashed potatos and spinach. Again just a lack of flavor. The potatos were standard. The spinach had flavor but that probably came from the entire bulb of garlic that was on it which I could actually feel burn my tongue. I'm half italian and can handle my garlic, but this was WAY over the top - my friend thought so too. Dessert was creme brulee which was very good! At least the night ended happily. All in all just not what you'd expect from such a normally expensive restaurant. I won't be back, but maybe you'll have better luck? read more

My husband and I went to The Capital Grille last night for our 2 year anniversary dinner. This is our second time dining with them. We were here 4 years ago for my hubby's birthday and he LOVED it. We decided to cash in some credit card rewards points for a $250 gift certificate. We also received a $100 gift certificate from hubby's work :) The staff is very attentive, and our server Chris Cline was very very personable. They had put "happy anniv" confetti on our table and seated us immediately (we arrived 30mins earlier than our reservation). The wine selection is extensive and our server was able to help my husband pick out a nice red wine. Our server also sold me on the Stoli Doli (pineapple!) which was AMAZINGGG. Hubby and I also split a half bottle of a rose brut champagne. Lets move on to the food, the food was INCREDIBLE. love love love Capital Grille. Hubby and I have always been big fans of Ruths Chris (I think its a lower price point than Capital Grille) but now Capital Grille is our absolute favorite (when we can afford it of course). We've also been to The Palm in NYC and Capital Grille's food is 10x better! Lobster & Shrimp Cake - delicious! Mozzarella Tomato salad - our server split this for us so we each had our own plate. soo fresh. French Onion Soup - hubby and I shared this - BEST FRENCH ONION soup I've ever had Surf & Turf - filet & crab leg meat - this was reaaaaaaly good, the crab meat was amazing sliced Filet Mignon w/ onions & mushrooms - I loved this!! So juicy and flavorful Lobster Mac & Cheese - I would be perfectly happy just having this as my meal. FANTASTIC. Best Lobster Mac And Cheese I've ever had. Asparagus - boring, but hubby ordered it, probably felt guilty for not having anything green on our plates. hehehe. I really wanted the sauteed spinach or creamed spinach. oh well!!! dessert was on the house (I would hope so!!) CHEESECAKE - this was THE best cheesecake I have ever eaten. It had a bruleed topping, and served in a raspberry sauce. I keep moaning as I ate it. Hubby said the raspberry sauce was soo soo fresh. The vanilla wafer crust was amazing. AND this cheesecake didn't make my stomach hurt! (normally when I eat cheesecake, I get terrible stomach pain afterwards - especially from Cheesecake Factory). Our bill came to about $350 which covered the gift certs. Hubby didnt have enough cash to tip our server, so he gladly ran our credit for 1 cent, so we could tip him!! :-) All in all, if you can afford it, this place is GREAT for a nice Anniversary meal or special occassion. read more

I wasn't expecting to be impressed by a chain restaurant (albeit a high-end one), but wow, what an exceptional experience. Came here for lunch on a whim. Ordered a manhattan which was stiff, traditional, just the way I like it, no extra sweetness or fillers like some other places do. I had the wedge salad which was literally the best wedge salad I have ever had and a steal for the price. The lettuce was so fresh and heirloom tomatoes were a nice touch, not to mention the quality of the bacon. We were treated to a taste of the calamari from a fellow customer and it was delicious with the peppers its cooked with. I enjoyed the sea bass and my bf loved the wagyu burger with egg on top. The icing on the cake to the experience was our server/bartender, Amelia, overhearing us talk about my birthday being in a couple of days and her treating us to a dessert of our choice and a couple of glass of champagne. The apple cobbler with sea salt caramel icecream was absolutely divine and a perfect end to an amazing lunch! read more

Oh this pains me, but my experience here was just meh. Dined on a Sunday night with the BF and found the host and service to be good. Sadly, the food was just meh. The BF had a wedge salad that looked OK while my "appetizer" was the Stoli Doli - a pineapple infused Stoli vodka served chilled in a martini glass. The Stoli Doli was pretty good. For entrees, I selected the sushi-grade, sesame crusted seared tuna while the BF got the kona crusted bone-in. Lobster mac and cheese served as our side dish. My tuna was just bad. I believe it was a mix of the quality of the fish (this ain't no sushi-grade!) and the preparation (this ain't no steak!!). It came out on the plate and the outer layer was a strange, almost sickly looking gray color with white sesame seeds scattered about and the inner part was red like seared tuna should be. Perhaps it wasn't seared in a hot enough pan?? It had ZERO flavor. It also came with 3 sauces for drizzling/dipping and what was a poor excuse for ginger sticky rice. The BF's steak was good and cooked fine, but a little tough. The lobster mac and cheese left something to be desired. It needed a hint of a slightly sharper cheese to bring out some flavor. We were both stuffed even despite the slightly disappointing meal so opted to not get dessert. For the prices, I wouldn't feel compelled to recommend this place. But I'm willing to give it another try. read more

My boyfriend and I tried out Capital Grille for the first time during Restaurant Week (8/21). The food and the ambiance were great and it was definitely lively. However upon arrival and letting the server know that we were here for restaurant week, the service kind of went downhill from there. We were given the menu and were left to decide on our own what we wanted to eat with no explanation of the menu or anything. Once we selected what we wanted, that became the last sort of interaction with our main server. For starters my boyfriend got the clam chowder and I got the spring salad mix with champagne vinaigrette. I didn't try much of the clam chowder but it tasted very flavorful. The spring salad mix had just enough vinaigrette without overpowering the salad in itself. Then he got the 14oz bone in steak while I got the 8oz steak. We both ordered it medium and that turned out well. Both contained a lot of flavor and were juicy. They were both accompanied by string beans and mash potatoes. Mash potatoes tasted great as well as the string beans (seemed a little over-cooked for my liking though) Finally for dessert my boyfriend got the chocolate flourless cake and I got the Capital Grille Strawberries (I believe that's the name of it). I didn't take a liking to the flourless cake one bit. The texture of it and the taste were just way off for my liking. Thank goodness for the vanilla ice cream and strawberries to save the day! Finally it was time to go. I've came to a conclusion that the server didn't give us the time of the day because we were solely there for Restaurant Week. If we would've gone when it wasn't maybe the service would've been better, who knows. Granted, he was more concern with VIP members that sat across from the table from us; the least he could've done was made more interaction with us and asked us if we had any questions about the menu. I will likely not to return anytime soon due to service. I will probably return if the event of a special occasion but the experience there didn't make my first time at the Capital Grille all that enjoyable. read more

Wow. So impressed. We hosted a graduation party in May, and I have to say the food was nearly perfect -- no -- it was perfect. With 20 people we had the small private room, and the service was also perfect. Food came out the way we ordered, and it was fun passing around all of the side dishes. When you are paying this much money you want everything to be great, and it was. I would highly recommend this Capital Grille. Top notch. I give it six stars for food, atmosphere and service. read more

Cost not justified. The steak was good, the sides were good, the service was good, and the prices were ABSURD! Note that everything was good but definitely not Great. Glad we came here during restaurant week as the food, service, & prices fall (actually mean rise) into the same category as Mortons & Ruth Chris - not worth the cost. Grab a steak at Flemings or any of the Ray's restaurants for the DC Restaurant Week prices and it is just as good if not better. Also with the cost of everything, change the decor - we are not in the wild west at your menu prices. Having taxidermist animal heads on the walls seemed quite odd - maybe not for REAL steakhouse but definitely for this place. This place reminds me of J. Gilberts for the swath's of over 60 people which swarm to this place and I guess pay for us under 40's to stay away. Enjoy forking over hundreds of dollars extra each visit. If you want to waste your hard-earned money, you can send me your extra cash or take your kids here on your dime. For a casual yet good steak dinner - there is no better place than capital grille. The steaks are good - and the ambiance is easy. Yes you'll have people in 3 piece suits - but you'll also have people in jeans and button down. It never gets loud or out of control (like outback - wait - did i just put Outback in the same sentence as The Capital Grille - my fault) - but its never super quiet like Morton / Ruth Chris. Overall its a good spot - you can usually find me in the bar area (the most chill part of the restaurant) doing some work while eating my steak. Btw - if you have a chance - eat the Lollipop Lamb - its an earth shattering amazing appetizer. read more

Great experience at the capital grill as my boyfriend and celebrated my birthday. The food and service were both excellent, which for a restaurant of this caliber is expected. It was the little things though. They knew it was my birthday. They had a card on our table signed by the restaurant staff wishing me a happy birthday. At the end of our meal, they brought out a desert on a plate inscribed with "Happy Birthday" and then the waiter asked if he could take a photo for our keepsake. Officially I rate The Capital Grille Tysons a 4.5, but the experience was good enough for me to push that up to 5. Seldom do I write a review at midnight right after returning from the meal, but this was truly wonderful. We were seated right away for our 8:30 reservation, and there was a good amount of people both at the bar and in the restaurant itself, but the atmosphere was not rowdy in any sense. The lighting is dim but not in the uncomfortable sense. Seating is either at tables or booths... we requested a booth and were lucky to snatch a free one! Ordered off of the Restaurant Week menu, but also got the calamari off the regular dinner menu. The bread was absolutely delicious... I could have made a meal out of that alone, but am very glad I didn't. The calamari wasn't as crispy as I would have liked it but the portion was generous and the peppers added the perfect amount of spice. They were also a little sour which made the overall taste somewhat tangy and very memorable. Choices for appetizer were: Field Greens, Clam Chowder, or Caesar Salad. My parents both opted for the chowder, which I didn't get to taste, but my mom told me that she preferred that of Legal Seafoods. They somehow ran out of Caesar Salad, but my lovely waitress told me I could choose any salad as a replacement so I went for "The Wedge": literally a wedge of iceberg lettuce slathered in delicious dressing and bacon bits, with a side of 3 thick tomato slices. As simple as this dish looked, it was SO DELICIOUS. I loved the creaminess of the dressing, the crispiness of the bacon, and how fresh the veggies tasted.. I usually don't even like tomatoes! For entree, the choice was between Filet Mignon, Ribeye, Pan-Seared Salmon, or Rack of Lamb. My dad and I ordered the salmon, and my mom - the filet mignon. I absolutely adored the texture of the fish - so moist and unlike anything else I've ever tasted at a typical seafood restaurant. Despite how well it was cooked, I found it lacking in flavor... simply tasted like fish, and not really much else. My mom's filet was also very well cooked, but same problem with the lack of memorable flavors. The portion size is extremely generous; there is a small surf and turf leftover awaiting me for lunch tomorrow! On to dessert. The choices were: Handcrafted Ice Cream (3 scoops: 1 vanilla, 1 choco, 1 strawberry), Flourless Espresso Chocolate Cake, and Creme Brulee. Our party got one of each. The creme brulee was simply DIVINE and the sugary top was crisped to perfection. The texture was flawless and though I hate custard usually, I found myself stealing spoonfuls from my mom's dish. Only tasted the strawberry ice cream, but was very please by both its flavor and consistency. My cake - very VERY rich and bitter due to the espresso, but paired with the creme-fraiche and raspberries, it all came together wonderfully on my taste buds. So satisfied. As for service, I had very low expectations after hearing some "horror stories" about Restaurant Week neglect. Was very pleasantly surprised by our waitress, Angela Melici, who was sweet, courteous, and attentive. It is one of the best service experiences I have had at a restaurant. Side note: not a good restaurant to bring small, noisy children. Sat next to a family with 2 of them that were fussing and spilling things constantly, and it really ruined the romantic/classy ambiance the Grille seems to strive for. Same with that obnoxious drunk two tables over. But I digress... Absolutely a 5-star experience at The Capital Grille tonight, and will definitely be back in the future to dine again! read more

I have been a big fan of The Capital Grille - I have dined at many of them across the US. However, my first visit to the restaurant in McLean was not a very good one. Maybe it was an off night; maybe it was poor waitstaff - or maybe the Darden (you know, Red Lobster and Olive Garden) acquisition has adversely affected the service. We came in on a slow Sunday night and were seated immediately. However, the good service ended there. My boyfriend and I usually dine on appetizers and then split a steak, accompanied by 1-2 vegetables. The steak came first - with no second plate. It was almost 10 minutes before we received our vegatables...so the steak was cold by the time we ate. read more

One word: LobsterMacAndCheese. Wow - 24,000,012 calories of holy sh*t that's awesome! Made a reservation for 4, showed up with 12, the place took it completely in stride. We had them moving tables, bumping into each other, and generally created mayhem in a very austere uppity kind of dining room. The table had a cold seafood tower and a couple of other apps. I selected a Halibut special over fresh veggies and a very light fresh tomato sauce. It was sick good. I love this place. Out of the far too many times I've been here I've only had to pay for my meal once (thanks public accounting firms!) so my opinion may be a bit skewed Depending on where you sit, it can have that business lunch type feel or a romantic atmosphere. So I'd be sure to talk to the host and let them know what you're in the mood for. The food here was indeed delicious. I've never really been disappointed by the menu nor the countless meat dishes I've ordered But that's because it was all free...... I don't know if I would have enjoyed it as much if I were paying everything out of my own pocket. This is a great place for a business lunch and business happy hours to sugar up those blind future employees/interns who are selling their souls to join a public accounting firm But I think you can find something nicer for the same price if you want to take a date out and fancy him/her with your paycheck If you haven't tried it before and you aren't restricted with what most people call money I'd say 'what the h#!!' and give it a go But if not, I don't really think you're missing out on too much 4/5 stars you fancy champs read more

Stopped into the Tysons Capital Grille twice over the holidays and it was FABULOUS! Both the food and service at this location were exquisite! Todd, the General Manager was there both times we visited and made it a point to check in with us to ask if everything was ok. I also noticed him conversing with many of the other patrons over the course of the evening, so you could tell he had a genuine interest in making sure folks were enjoying their dining experience. Pros- Service was great. I told Capital Grille beforehand that it's our Anniversary and they had a hand written card ready on the table with little heart decorations on the table. Plus we received a complimentary dessert. Cons- Steak wasn't very flavorful especially with the larger cuts of meat. The sides were okay but also on the bland side for us. read more

Happy hour review only. The company that I work for hosts happy hour for candidates who travel to interview the evening before. We have a standing reservation and it has worked out splendidly. The wine selection for happy hour and all of the time is really fantastic. I have had every appetizer at Capital Grille and they are all fantastic and served beautifully. Their wait staff here is phenomenal: kind, quick, and attentive. I also find that the atmosphere is nice and that the crowd is professional, but not as stuffy as you might expect. This location offers valet parking and is very easy to get to, just off of Leesburg pike. For a nicer happy hour, this is a great option in Tyson's Corner. read more

This is one of my favorite steakhouses on the East Coast. The food is very good. The drinks are definitely outstanding, and the service is excellent. The waiters are pretty knowledgeable about their wine list and give pretty good recommendations to match the food. I dined here last night for my birthday. Food was beyond amazing! I had the filet mignon and my date had the porterhouse steak. We shared the sides of mashed potatoes, asparagus, calamari, and cheesecake (servings are enough for 2). Service was excellent! Very upscale and not to mention, expensive lol. My family brought me here to celebrate my birthday and we enjoyed a wonderful experience. The food - everything from steak, salmon, swordfish, asparagus, and mashed potatoes - was fabulous. Apparently, when the reservation was made, they discovered a birthday celebration would occur. A nice birthday card was placed on the table, and complimentary dessert was presented following dinner. Our waiter, Art, was splendid and exceptionally tentative. The atmosphere is classy. They have a complimentary valet, which makes parking convenient. This is a great classy place to assemble with family, celebrate, or have a romantic dinner. ***12/7/18. My family and party came here following my father's military burial at Arlington Cemetery. We prearranged a personal room of 30 guests. The food and service was beyond perfect. This was the perfect place to celebrate my father's homecoming as well as enjoy great food and accommodations. Me and the bf dined here last night for DC restaurant week. We were extremely disappointed. It's not that we can't afford to dine here on their regular menu, but 'restaurant week' is usually a good way to try new restaurants we wouldn't ordinarily try. 3-course prix fixe: Clam chowder-should've called it potato chowder, I think I had 2 tiny clams. Citrus glazed salmon-portion size was ample but it tasted frozen/fishy. Citrus glaze didn't blend well with the fishiness of the salmon. Kona crusted aged sirloin-yup, it's a sirloin. Grainy and too tough to chew a big bite. Flourless espresso cake & Key lime pie for dessert were decadent and delicious. Dessert was the highlight of the evening. Oh, and we ordered their Creamed Spinach...delicious...but Creamed spinach & dessert are the only reasons why I'm giving 2 stars. I know it's restaurant week and I know they're trying to bring in Winter customers who would otherwise be snuggled up in front of a fireplace. But at least have the decency to put good food on the prix-fixe...draw me in so I can think about coming back here for an anniversary or birthday! Could've been an off day...Ordered the wrong things...Might give it another try...maybe the DC location instead. read more

My first time at a Capital Grille. I came here on a Saturday evening for Restaurant Week. They recommend reservations, but I was unable to make reservations online. I called the restaurant directly, they did not have anything available. So I did what I thought was the next best thing...I came around 5 PM and got a seat at the bar. Apparently a lot of people had the exact same idea because the bar was full 30 minutes later. I ordered a Porterhouse steak and mashed potatoes. The bartender/server brought out a basket of bread and crackers which I enjoyed with my Manhattan cocktail. In sum, I spent almost $70 for the meal, drinks, and tip. I hope I can come back and try the lobster mac and cheese everyone keeps talking about. This is about as four star as it gets, so I doubt I can be a regular customer but it would be a great place for a rehearsal dinner or other very special occasion. read more
