I love, love, love, the spicy food here, they have lots of options. The service was pretty well, they took our families order and didn't get anything wrong at all. They got everything out at separate times the most highest time for the order was about only 20-22 minutes. It did not take very long, the drinks were good also. Was craving something hearty so I got The Chicken Koop's spicy grilled chicken to-go with garlic fries and deep fried donuts (just for fun). The grilled chicken was SPICY. I thought it was just a gimmick, but each bite had a strong kick. If you're into super spicy food, you might be adding hot sauce, but for someone who handles moderately spicy food, this was on the upper scale of my tolerance. Honestly 10/10 enjoyable sandwich. The pickles, sauce, and bread probably helped me the most in finishing that spicy, grilled chicken. The garlic fries were good, but nothing too special. Maybe they're better when you get them in the restaurant because fries start to lose their crisp real quick in transit. Flavor wise it was good, but again nothing too memorable. The deep fried Oreos were interesting. The ice cream they came with was waaay too sweet and I just threw it out. I've never had deep fried Oreos so no idea what to compare it with, but it was fun to try. Not something I foresee myself getting often if ever again. 4/5 stars mainly because I feel it was a tad bit expensive for the quality, but it was a hearty meal and maybe I'll change my mind when I go there in person. I seen the yelp reviews and just KNEW the food was going to be amazing but sadly I was not too happy with my food and even more disappointed with the amount of money we spent. I literally couldn't even take a picture of my food because I ordered for it to go and it was beyond soggy. We ordered the sliders, the Tinga empanadas, and the nachos. There should be a disclaimer on the nachos because they aren't served with fried tortillas they are like fried rice paper so even if you got them fresh the nacho cheese would still make them soggy. The nacho cheese was also really bad quality. We had maybe two bites and just couldn't even pretend it was ok enough to finish through. The empanadas were also soggy and the chicken was really dry. The sliders were okay. Something about the breading of the chicken was different. The spicy sauce was really really spicy so be careful. We went to the xpress in Montebello. It is a small place that is on the corner with a bunch of other restaurants. It appeared to be a European style dining with benches to share and all. At least that is what I thought when I saw the various options. We went inside and found the place in the corner. The cashier was pretty nice and polite. He really pushed the food and made it seemed like they did special things to make it more delicious. I guess that should have been my first red flag. I wanted poutine fries and thought that was what I ordered. It was actually gravy mozzarella cheese fries. There was no cheese curd on it at all and that is what makes the difference between poutine fries and regular cheese fries. I was disappointed and almost took the food back until I actually read the description on the wall. I had been at the one in Whittier before and they for sure had original poutine fries over a year ago. I just assumed this one would also so I didn't read in advance. My mistake. But, the name should definitely change, it's not poutine fries. So anyway, the gravy fries with chicken was fine, nothing to go overboard about. More seasoning in the gravy was needed and on the chicken. I honestly would not go back for it. I also ordered esquite corn and that was fine, but I have had better with the guy on the corner in my old neighborhood. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and waffles and the plantain. Again, the chicken was under seasoned and not as crispy as it should have been. I didn't even bother to taste the waffle. The plantains were not even cooked all the way through. I actually could not swallow mine. I gave it to the napkin. Yeah, I don't think we will come back to this particular location ever again. It makes me wonder about the Whittier location now. I wonder if they still have original poutine fries or are they just gravy mozzarella fries also? It was such a great place to eat back then. Well, the moral of the story is to read the description no matter how many times you eat at a place or food chain because they may change the recipe. In their defense, the food may be great for others who aren't as particular about such things. I'm just a Southerner who grew up with cooks and a foodie to my heart. Didn't really taste the tomato base nor the spice. Also wasn't sure if they added fresh lemon or lime juice. Also I ordered the fried chicken with waffles and it was pretty good but not up to par with other places I have been too. The chicken was too fried and too crunchy. It wasn't tender how it should have been. Also there were a few items on the menu which were not being served anymore like the Indian style plate. Their spicy chicken sandwich is not for the faint heart I've been eyeing this place for more than 6 months and finally got to try it. They seriously do couple things right and other things not so much. We ordered 2 spicy chicken sandwiches with an upgraded sides of "poutine" for both. The chicken sandwiches are fire . The chicken to bread ratio was good, the spice level amazing. IT WAS HOT which is what I usually prefer/like when it comes to "spicy". We to-goed these and the chicken was still pretty crispy and the fries were hot. HOWEVER. Their side that they so-call "poutine" are just fries with gravy and cheese and even then, I'm using the term gravy graciously. I was so disappointed that we paid $3 extra dollars for these (let me remind you their chicken sandwich is not cheap) and to be let down like that, super disappointing. Slow service. We put our name on the waitlist and we're told it would be about 30 minutes. No biggie- we grabbed a beer and sat on patio to wait.
