While driving back home during dinner time, had the cravings for some chicken. Saw the chicken Koop and decided to give it a go. Boy was I surprised, the food 1/2 a chicken and the taco sampler were on point. The inside is small but they do have a small patio outside also and the service was great. My good friend had the Chicken Koop bookmarked on her list for a while. We planned to visit the Chicken Koop when we were at the Amazon Fresh store in Whittier. We came by around dinner time, about 6:30 pm, and were sat down. Since it was a weekday, we got the Fried Chicken Sandwich special (burger and fries). I'm definitely a Fried Chicken enthusiast and I gotta say...this sandwhich was perfect! It was just the right amount with a perfect pairing of deliciously hot fries on the side. This was my first visit to The Koop. It was a rather pleasant experience. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, and it was delicious. One of the biggest things for me as a general manager is customer service and attentiveness. I've been a valued customer for chicken Koop always getting their chicken pozole and have nothing ever wrong to say about their food besides the last time. For starters, their phone was disconnected when I arrived. Two girls were laughing obnoxiously and seemed to not care. Whoever took my order was the only person and the other two girls told that one girl hey can you take their order as if they were extremely busy when they weren't for them to be louder than the music laughing yelling was extremely disrespectful. I truly believe in the value of attentiveness and making sure that the customer always feels valued, but it seemed like these people didn't care. Again the food is always top-notch. My husband and I were actually lost in Whittier and happened to turn right onto the street where the chicken Koop is located. We parked in the parking lot adjacent to it. It started getting busy as soon as we sat down. It was a Saturday afternoon around 1:30PM. Lots of servers to help, they are constantly checking in on you making sure you have everything you need.Right when I was about to get up to get a refill, a waiter came by to do it for me. The soda fountain in the restaurant is not self serve, oops. We loved everything we ordered, the only thing that needed help was the Pozole flavoring, it was very bland. Broth was on the watery side. I love this place so much ! Never fails. The food is just simple amazing everything cooked and prepared to perfection. Their chicken is so juicy and tender never over cooked. Their chicken taquitos are bomb as well and with their salsa just chefs kiss. Their alcoholic drinks are very good as well they even offer pitchers for some of them. Ambiance is always great. Kind of a small place inside but they also have outside seating. Customer service is always great very attentive staff making sure of where missing anything or want anything else. I was looking forward to trying this place because of all the good reviews, but what a let down!! Not sure if I came on a bad day or what. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, sweet and spicy, with garlic fries. The fries were good but my sandwich was soooo salty. Almost every bite was a mouthful of salt. I couldn't finish my food because of how salty it was. I literally had to spit it out. I just went to the ocean and it felt like when I had a mouthful of ocean water. My boyfriend ordered the same thing and had the same problem. We almost contemplated sending the order back, but didn't want to be THAT person. I am so sad because I really wanted to like this place. The service is top notch. Super friendly staff! Margaritas are refreshing and delicious. The cucumber one and the Jamaica one are legit. The poutine was ginormous. Tons of crispy fries topped with chicken, gravy and cheese. It was ok, but I've also had original poutine in Canada, so I'm a poutine snob, ha. The cuban plate was also ok. Chicken was great, but the rice and beans lacked flavor. The naan bread was spectacular! So chewy, warm, freaking delicious. Next time, I'm getting a basket of bread and chicken only. 05/07/23 - Finally made it here with my family after a movie. It was just about 7::00pm and we were famished. We d to try Chicken Koop due to great reviews and several recommendations from co-workers. The seating was packed and a to go line formed outside the door, so with that in mind, my expectations were high. Since we were a party of 9, we waited about 25-30min, but I think we didn't wait too long. It was clean and the atmosphere was dim with spotlight. Cool little spot with tables and a long booth. Once we were seated, drinks were offered right away. A few in our party ordered the Jamaica and cucumber Agua Fresca. The cucumber was light and healthy, minimal sugar. The Jamaica was tart with a hint of sweetness, if you've ever tried the Agua Fresca at Northgate, it's definitely not the same. Here's a disclaimer: I really wanted fried chicken that night, but I should've tried something else. Make sure you read comments and reviews to understand what you're ordering. I really wanted to love this place but my expectations were set too high. First of all, the food looked BETTER than what it tasted. Presentation was 5/5 but I can't say the same for the food. My craving for fried chicken was not satisfied at all. The skin wasn't crispy, it was soggy as if the chicken was sitting for a bit. The breading was to too thick and it was not seasoned well. My friend ordered the chicken and waffles and experienced the same dilemma with the fried chicken. Also, one of my chicken pieces was still pink. The waitress offered to get me a fresh thigh, which took 30 mins to get - and it was a breast instead. At least it was moist! My husband had the taco sampler, which was pretty good. The tacos were seasoned well. My daughter had the breakfast sandwich. They initially brought her the wrong order and she didn't realize that until she was halfway through her sandwich (ugh teenagers). They let her keep the sandwich and apologized for that. However, it took another 20 minutes to get the right order. She expressed the grilled chicken sandwich was good, but parts of the breast was a little dry. The fries that came with the sandwich was not as fresh as it could have been. My other friend is pescatarian and she had the portobello salad which she enjoyed. The greens were fresh and they topped it with a generous amount of mushrooms. She also had a side of esquites or street corn. I decided to have a bite since it looked appetizing and the flavors didn't disappoint. It brought me back to the first time I ever tried Mexican Street Corn. Overall, our first experience was hit and miss. I'd give this place another try and maybe try the roasted chicken. As for the rest of my party, one visit was enough. We were seated right away. It's not really a comfortable seating arrangement as we were seated on the wall. The seating is very close. Our server was great. She was knowledgeable about the menu and friendly. She was very attentive. I had the white meat chicken plate with potato salad and a side of corn. The potato salad had eggs in it, so I couldn't eat it, I opted for the roasted corn. It was tasty. The chicken didn't have much taste, and I found it a little dry. Had been craving this spicy sandwich for days! Finally had the chance to stop by and it didn't disappoint. Their chicken, whether it be fried or roasted is juicy and flavorful. They serve basic white rice, but you can mix it with their dipping sauces to add flavor. I recommend both the green and chipotle dipping sauces. We stumbled across this place since we went to another store nearby and I'm glad we had an opportunity to try it. From the name, we had initially thought it was just another fried chicken sandwich place (there are so many of these places nowadays), but they have so many more items than just fried chicken. Also, it seems they're also a chain of them in Montebello, Alhambra, and El Monte which also got good reviews on Yelp. Anyway, my wife, son, and I got the Garlic Chicken Plate, The Cuban Style Plate, and 1/4 Dark Chicken Plate. All of them were excellent, but I think I enjoyed the garlic chicken the best with their rice. Also, although it is a little on the expensive side (but what isn't these days), it will fill you up, and we were actually able to make two meals out of it. However, I think what makes this place even better are their dipping sauces. We tried the Green Sauce, Chimichurri, and the Garlic Spread. First of all there was so much bbq sauce that it was too spicy and the taste of the bbq sauce overpowered the coleslaw and pickles that were in it. It was so soggy that it was impossible to pick up, so I had to eat it with a knife and fork. The Chicken Koop came highly recommended by my colleagues who have an office somewhat nearby. Ever since they found out I'm a foodie, they have been so sweet to pick good spots for me to try. This location of the Chicken Koop is the original location and it has street parking and a public lot nearby. They have a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. If you opt for indoor, it is full service. For patio seating and togo orders, just order and pay at the counter. The weather was nice that day so the group decided to sit in the shaded patio area. Two of our colleagues ordered The Garlic Chicken Plate ($16.99/each) which comes with a 1/2 butter garlic roasted chicken on a bed of white rice and brussels sprouts, naan bread and 2 dipping sauces. Our other colleague and I ordered a 1/4 Dark Meat Chicken Plate ($9.99/each) which comes with a side and a dipping sauce. My colleague upgraded to a fried chicken (extra $2) and I upgraded my order to a butter garlic chicken (extra $1.50). Yesssss. Garlic everything!! I love the butter garlic chicken. For my side I had their tasty roasted corn and for my sauce I got their garlic spread. The naan was soft and warm and even better with that garlic spread. The corn was sweet. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The meal definitely exceeded my expectations. It was a great meal! The four of us were joking that we were fully vaccinated but we would still need our face masks going back to the office to cover up the garlic scent. The Chicken Koop also has a variety of drinks.
