The Chicken Koop was once one of our top choices to eat at or order take out from. I don't think we'll be eating here for a long while until (if) we decide to give it another try. I ordered the chicken taquitos and an order of plantains. The taquitos were dry and hard to eat. They had plenty of sour cream, cheese and lettuce but the chicken was so dry. I also couldn't eat them with the salsa it comes with because it was too spicy. It had no flavor, it was just heat. I asked for a different sauce. It was good but didn't help with the dryness. The plantains were hard so I didn't finish those either. I'm giving this review three stars because my husband liked his food although he said the chicken was juicier before. Recently ate their for a late weekend lunch. I had not been there in a while and their food was even better than I remember. We all enjoyed the dishes-taquitos, tacos, pozole, chicken plates, tostada salad, etc. Sides and sauces were excellent as well. I would have given a 5 but a couple of things were not perfect. We were asked to use QR code menus, but some in our party asked for actual menus. The pricing on those menus did not match up to what we were actually charged. Everything was at least $1-$3 more. I ordered the chicken and it was full of flavor and very tasty. The chicken wasn't over or under cooked and not dry at all. I loved the seasoning and it was cooked to perfection, fall-off-the-bone. Their sides are amazing, I ordered the jalapeño mac & cheese, it was incredible. The brussell sprouts were delish and garlic fries were to die for. The selection of dipping sauces just added more flavor to the meal. The staff was friendly, courteous, and very attentive. We will definitely be back, tell our Whittier peeps and friends. My daughter and I recently stopped here for a bite to eat before seeing a show at Whittier College down the block. This restaurant is a trendy, cool and hip place to hang out and meet up with friends to have a bite to eat and/or have a drink. It was a Thursday, so lucky us, Happy Hour was all day -- woot woot! All day Happy Hour is offered on Sunday, Monday and Thursday. Other days from 3-7pm. Since small bites were discounted, we started with the empanadas and poutine. Our order came super fast and since the appetizers were huge, we decided to hold off on ordering the rest of our meal til a bit later. We never did, as we were so full. And the salsa they give you with the plate is just perfect. I order the chicken tostado wow! It looks small but it fills you up the corn gives the tostada an amazing taste. Now here is why I'm rating you guys a 4 star. I order a side of chicken for my tostada & it look like it was chicken scraps (see picture) you charge $4 for the extra chicken made it look desent. I also order the cucumber margarita it was way to much ice I probably got like 2-3 good sips before I was left with nothing but Ice on my cup. They were just going to close the dine-in area because it was that time of night but still had orders to go available. The look of disappointment I must have had! Chicken with literally no flavor. Waffle was great minus no sugar free syrup option. Chicken Tinga Empanadas- 5/10 good flavor but very dry. Light chewing chicken dust. Naan Chicken Wrap- 6/10 No flavor besides roasted chicken and kinda dry. Thank god for garlic spread and ranch. Also ordered it with a ceasar salad- if u like strong fish tasting dressing this is up ur alley. Esquite- 8/10 This was the best thing minus needing more mayo for creamyness. overall this was good. Well the older lady started yelling at me and telling me that blood was normal in the chicken that it comes from the bone. Ummm, no! It was not myoglobin (a protein that leaks into the meat). I have my California Food Handlers card, and I know exactly what she meant to say but not it was not myoglobin. She told me to "google it". I told her I could text her a pic of it and she said that it was not necessary. She told me to take the food back. I told her I didn't want to go back that I would like a refund on the order because I threw it all out. ALL OF A SUDDEN after I asked for the refund, she has to have pics to give me a refund. Argues with me for 20 mins and then she hung up the phone. Never ever in 11 years of being a server have I argued with someone so much. Never going back. Horrible service from that older lady. The server finally walks over and asks us our order for drinks, we are ready to order all at once at this point. We order and the food came pretty quickly. We ordered two drinks (one soda and an agua fresca-cucumber), a small bowl of the green pozole, the belly buster (with everything on the side), some fries, and a chicken quesadilla for about $46. The green pozole was pretty good and filling! The Belly Buster was good; it came with two sandwiches and I really enjoyed it. It was a lot. Probably shareable for two people. The fries were kind of cold which kind sucked. The quesadilla was okay. Overall the pricing wasn't bad and the food was pretty good but I feel the service could have been better. I'm not an impatient person nor am I a cheap ass when it comes to dining in. I always leave a cash tip over 18% but it was like pulling teeth to get attention which was a disappointment. All plates are also served with Naan bread. I got mac and cheese for my side dish and their green sauce. I personally like white meat better. The chicken was juicy and tender, not dried at all. The portions were good enough for me. The mac and cheese were bomb. Overall, this was a delicious combo! Brussel Sprouts (Regular $5) - I LOVE brussel sprouts, so this was worth getting! The server said this is one of their most popular sides and she wasn't wrong. The brussel sprouts were roasted to the right level and the seasoning were really good. It went well with the roasted chicken. The Koop Virgin Michilada ($4) - Jarritos Tamarind, House Michelada with House Rim. The pictures on yelp looked cool, so I wanted to give it a try. The presentation was nice, but to be honest, I did not like the flavor. It was way too strong for me. I had a few sips and didn't finish my drink. Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich ($14) - Spicy marinated chicken breast, coleslaw, chipotle, pickles on Hawaiian bun and side of garlic fries ($2 upgrade for poutine). I tried the poutine fries and they were really cheesy. My friend said that their chicken sandwich had a lot of flavor and tasted great as well.
