It was chilly outside, mid-afternoon and I wanted a tasty, not-too-heavy lunch. The Chocolate Factory was perfect! I'd only been here in the summertime for ice cream (great ice cream, btw). Reading my Yelp reviews, I noted that they had good ratings, great bread and friendly service. Yes and Yes! My sub was the daily special and I enjoyed it immensely. Fresh ingredients and the bread was flavorful; soft on inside with a slightly crunchy crust. My split pea soup was creamy with small chunks of smokes ham, potato and carrots, and full of flavor without being too salty. Perfect for the chilly weather. The service was exceptional and I got to eat my lunch while looking out at the beautiful lake! read more

Ordered online, boated up to the public dock by the train tracks, and picked up our order super fast! The tuna croissant was delicious (not at all soggy) and my picky 6 year old loved his turkey and blackberry sub. My husband also enjoyed his chili dog - beware though, it's huge!! We enjoyed it so much we went back to the ice cream window before leaving. I know we'll be back a ton this summer. Great find! read more

I go to The Chocolate Factory about 1-2 times a week because their economic stimulus deal is one of the best deals in the city. 3.99 for a mini sub (not that mini), a soda, and chips? count me in. Nice location right next to the beach. Ice cream is delicious and they weigh by the pound which is different than a lot of other places as they do by the scoop. Ice cream that we chose was delicious was a bit pricey over five dollars for two scoops of ice cream. Bathrooms were clean and there was plenty of parking in front and behind the strip. Our friends had sandwiches and food and it seemed OK but I cannot comment because I did not have any of that. They have a station for a water which was helpful. The staff is friendly. If I ever come back in the area I would return for some ice cream. read more

What happened?! This used to be one of our fav spots with great food and service. While the food and ice cream is still delicious, the staff is AWFUL!!! I was asked 4 times what my 3 sandwich order was and waited forever while they brought me two wrong orders (all while we were literally the only people in the restaurant) The staff seemed annoyed and completely unapologetic. Definitely a disappointment to see such a great place go so downhill and can only imagine what the summer/beach rush will bring. read more

Only good thing about my visit was the broccoli cheese soup. In the store there were only 2 tables that were sanitized. Both the garbage bins were full and the staff was just talking to a friend and leaning on the counter. As well I had ordered a Sicilian sub without tomato and onion and both the employee making it and the one who served looked at it and knew it was wrong and still served it. The Chocolate Factory gave free subs to everyone in our company in order to stimulate business. The location is absolutely terrible, out of the way of anywhere you would think to go in Grand Avenue. I think the unfortunate location is why they're trying to get us to go there. When I finally found it, I really enjoyed my lunch. I ordered the pheonix and it came with delicious turkey, crispy bacon and pepper jack cheese. The sub roll was warm and fantastically fresh. The portion was perfect for a hearty lunch. Even though I came in with a coupon, the staff was really nice. Usually, when places know you're paying with a coupon they either give you attitude or a slopped-together finished product. Neither was the case at the Chocolate Factory. So, if you're in Grand Avenue, seek it out. It beats all the greasy options in the food court, and your resolve to eat a good, fresh lunch will be more than repaid. read more

Most generally this place is a great place to stop while visiting the lakeside. However, they missed the mark today. Unfortunately my Phoenix sub was not up to par. Sandwich description does not list tomatoes or onions. My sandwich had both. I asked for extra mayo. Don't think I got it. Bun was on the hard side. I had also asked for extra mayo on the second sandwich. Don't think he got it. All in all, both were edible, but I was very disappointed. Their sub sandwiches are better than average. I love the ham & cheese sub, the bread is soft and chewy inside and a little crunchy outside since they do serve them warm. The red onion slices are a nice change of pace from the usual. The tomato and lettuce seems pretty fresh, I really like crunchy lettuce and they have it. I decided to try these folks out after having read Laura's review, since they're conveniently connected to my office building, being located in the Grand Avenue Mall. Their concept of a quick line to get a cup of soup for lunch is very kewl, though I haven't tested how quickly it actually goes. And their sandwiches are almost as substantial as Jimmy John's, with a wider range of bread choices. My problem with these guys is that they don't offer a lunch plate "special..." By the time you've selected a soup and a sandwich, you're over $7--and that doesn't include a drink. I was happy enough with the quality of what I ate, and the wide range of choices available, but for a quick lunch option there are better deals to be had, so I'm not sure I'll be returning. read more

Our main attraction are the sub sandwiches. Fresh, warm breadrolls and great fillings. I usually order the turkey sub. If you like sub sandwiches then you will really like The Chocolate Factory. Fantastic view of Pewaukee Lake and the swimming beach during the summer. read more

Ice cream is very enjoyable, great for kids of all ages. I had to get used to paying by the weight of the ice cream and now I prefer it. One thing that could make this place better, the seating needs to be cleaned, disinfected and sterilized. Everything I touch in here is sticky. read more

There is something AMAZING about these sandwiches - I think it's the combination of warm bread and their specially-made sauce, plus the ice cream flavors are delicious.
