We love this place!!! Our go - to used to be Breakfast Republic which is also delicious, but there was always such a long wait and the service isn't great there so we decided to try someplace new. Now that we have found this place we go about once a week. It is not on the main strip (Newport Ave), so it's less busy being off the beaten path. It rarely has a crazy line; every time we have come in here there have been places to sit, even though it's a small spot. There are not servers here, you just stand in line and order then sit down and wait for them to bring your food. It's a hole in the wall vibe with great food and lots of coffee options. We NEVER come here without getting at least one dragon acai bowl!!! They are soooo good. Regular acai bowl is great as well. I always get the Vietnamese iced coffee which is creamy and a high amount of caffeine! I have been rotating around the menu trying different things to add to my acai and vietnamese staple. The french toast is great and has a TON of cinnamon if you like that, the egg croissant sandwich is okay but nothing special, and so far my favorite breakfast has been the breakfast burrito with sour cream and salsa! Definitely my new go to. read more

Cute little cafe in OB. Local spot with reasonably pricing. Service was awesome. The girl at the front is very personable, which I think goes a long way in this area. Large menu options from Avocado toast for $5, breakfast burritos & sandwiches and various coffee & blended drink options including smoothies. Easy going music on in the background & a small selection of board games to play while we waited for food, as well as a parking lot in the back. I brought three teenagers & they loved it. I want to reinforce my partners review We arrived after a long ride to this establishment because of the great reviews. We placed an order for food and paid and only after that did we request to use the restroom. I would like to point this out because the owner stated that we were told prior to ordering the food which is a lie We were waiting for our food that was paid for . There was not one sign that mentioned no restrooms available . I find this ridiculous that an establishment that has the option to dine in will not have a restroom for a paying customer. Even if that is the case we went looking and did not find anything We politely asked to use the employee restrooms and were turned down rudely . Such a cute little cafe! This place has amazing prices and food that's not ~too~ large so it's perfect for a snack before the beach. It's very small though, with no designated parking lot towards the cafe so just hope you get lucky enough to find a parking spot. The food was amazing! My boyfriend and I both loved our meals. Came here a few days in a row while staying near the area for breakfast. I love the ambiance and everyone here is so friendly. They have some seating indoors and a few tables outside for those who want to catch the sun. I ordered the earl gray latte, the breakfast burrito and a bagel with cream cheese. I loved the latte so much that I came back for it again! It just had the right flavor and you don't see this item in many places. The breakfast burrito was so delicious! I am not going to recommend this place to anyone, who is visiting San Diego and is a Foodie or just an adventurous tourist. In my opinion: 1. Customer service is at the lowest possible level. Customer is not right according to the employees and they know better what you want, even if you cannot eat certain types of food due to allergies. 2. As I was walking in, not even fully inside, I was asked to put on my face mask even though it had been already on my face and I was just fixing it and covering my nose. That is fine, providing that the person who is serving you, talking to you and asking you to do, is actually following the rules which he or she is trying to enforce. Silly. 3. An employee who works in the kitchen, does not follow COVID-10 regulations. According to the CDC recommendations, everyone who works in the food industry, must follow the regulations. Unless, there is a manager working there and will nicely explain to you, that they do not need wear a mask when preparing your order for you, because employees and managers breathe the same air.....Oh well. 4. I guess customer service depends on where you are from. I noticed a significant difference in an approach towards clients who could speak English language without an accent. We are not American but we can speak and write English fluently. If an English language is not your native language, do not expect good customer service. Good Luck and stay safe read more

I had high hopes for Cliffs Cafe. I can't speak to the rest of their menu, which looks amazing, but the Tropical bowls we ordered on Monday fell very short. The flavor was off and had overwhelming taste that was anything but fresh. It was a little metallic tasting. The fruit was definitely freshly cut but then frozen so it became pretty slimy as the bowl melted. Sadly I wasn't a fan but I wouldn't avoid this place. The rest of their bowls sounded good and their savory menu was very appealing. The space is small and you order at the counter. Staff is young and energetic. Very friendly. read more

Was excited to try this out- but with everything going on with COVID, I'd hope the kitchen would be wearing masks. Not one cook/ chef/ employee in the kitchen was wearing a mask. It is an open kitchen and they didn't try to even hide that. My boyfriend addressed it & they defended it by saying 'we get tested every week'. This is not how I want my food to be handled in a pandemic. *in response to team: we already paid and were waiting for our food to be handed. Lesson learned to not go back and hopefully a fair warning to those who would like their food to be cooked by caring/ trusting employees. My boyfriend is a Sous Chef in a kitchen and they all wear masks, since they are handling food and could have been exposed at home. This is the same for your kitchen. They are not interacting with customers but should be wearing masks to protect the people eating your food. What's interesting to me, is reviewing all the poor reviews on this place, and the owner can't just apologize- instead he makes excuses for every single thing that went wrong for customers. Came here in the morning since my mom's hostel was right nearby and I tried their bagel sandwich and OB pier smoothie. Their bagel sandwich was really good but I personally don't think I'd get the smoothie again. My mom tried the pitaya açaí bowl and she really enjoyed it since it came with a lot of fruit and granola on top. They do take a bit longer for food orders so if you are in a rush, I'm not sure I'd recommend this spot but if you have some time on your hands, I'd definitely recommend trying this place. read more

I stopped by here after going to the dog beach and got the breakfast burrito and the Mexican mocha. The coffee was so good, the right amount of sweet when you want a sweet coffee. The burrito was a good size and really good, only hang up was the potatoes were a little undercooked, but still really good. And it came with pretty decent salsa. The staff was very welcoming. There's indoor and outdoor seating and they allow dogs inside, which is always nice. I will definitely be coming back to try some other stuff. read more
