Good mom and pop restaurant for breakfast. We had the eggs Benedict for me and the chilaquiles for my wife. Big portions and great flavor. The Americano coffees were perfect. Unfortunately, my girlfriend and I were very unimpressed by our recent visit. The quality of food was deserving of two stars for two big reasons, but I think the cafe's deserving of three (if not four in the future), as I'll explain. But foremost... I ordered a bagel sandwich; my girlfriend ordered an açaí. When the waitress brought our food, my belly rumbled at the diminutive sandwich. Flavorful, yes, but barely a square-inch of meat atop a bit of egg. For $8, I was hoping for more than four bites worth, maybe some veggies stuffed in there... But I felt worse for my girlfriend. Her açaí was delivered to her already pretty well melted. Which was surprising considering the fruit toppings were still frozen! Of the banana, strawberries, and blueberries that it came with (no other toppings, by the way... no honey, granola, coconut... anything else that would have justified the nine-buck price tag) only the banana came fresh. All of the blueberries and nearly all of the strawberries were ice cubes. Not serveable to hungover houseguests, let alone paying customers. In reflection, I imagine they were hoping that the fruit would thaw in time to serve, but hoped the açaí wouldn't melt...? $18 out, and we left unsaturated and unsatisfied. But... the cafe is an ambient little gem. It's cozy inside, a nice reprieve from the often boisterous Sunset Cliffs Blvd. If you're looking for a spot to grab a (very) light sandwich, or simple coffee, don't be deterred! You'll enjoy it. And if the managers can improve the quality of food, I'll happily return. But until then, there are simply too many other options in OB to justify high cost/low quality. I really do hope to find an improvement in this place soon. It doesn't take much, just effort. I'm rooting for them! It's got too much potential, and has been here too long, to lose. read more

I've been coming to OB for years but finally checked this spot out a few times after coming with a friend. The food is super delicious every time I come here. Today I got a veggie scramble breakfast croissant and added bacon and hash browns. AMAZING! The iced Mexican mocha is also really good :) I didn't get her name but the barista with the long curly hair was super nice and friendly. Major positive vibes! I was looking for a quaint little café to have breakfast before starting the day and the picture of the Mexican mocha caught my eye . A short trip from the hotel and I was greeted by Andrea who was simply as pleasant as you would expect someone to be. I went out around 11 AM and there was plenty of parking behind the restaurant. I can't speak for how it might be earlier in the morning. The Mexican mocha was as advertised and the California omelette was delicious . Highly recommended. read more

Worst customer service, cancelled my smoothie got my money back and got a yummy smoothie next door at Rancho's instead. I will no longer give this place my business. Great job on losing a customer today. I used to like this place a lot and I still do. The atmosphere Nd the staff members are warm and nice. The new remodeling looks great. I hope the coffee shop can offer again silverware, ceramic mugs and reusable baskets. The food experience is not that good with styrofoam boxes and paper cups, and it is not sustainable for the planet. read more

This place has the best breakfast burrito in San Diego. Specifically The 2.0 breakfast burrito. It has all the traditional fixins plus a little corn beef hash for the true professional. It is a bit pricey but considering it's bigger than healthy new born baby it's worth it. a true San diego experience: grab the burrito and eat half before a morning surf, save the second half to Eat when you're chillin after your set. Went to The Cliffs Cafe this morning. We were looking for a good place to get a quick bite. The Cliffs was just that! Got the Greek Goddess bagel...which was excellent! So much flavor! I LOVE this place! The protein pancakes are my favorite! Also like their Vietnamese coffee. I usually get their breakfast burger with avocado and a side of chipotle sauce and I am in heaven!! The wife and I love coming here for breakfast. We both get bagels and cream cheese. She gets a coffee and I get an OB Pier smoothie (strawberry banana). The staff is super friendly, and they have bagel and coffee cards. Just got a free bagel on Friday! They also have a white board with the surf report for OB, which is cool. read more

I really want to - and try to - support local businesses, but this place always takes forever. And not in a "were just too good and have too many customers" kind of way. It's like 15 minutes at a non-rush hour for a basic smoothie because the cashier is taking orders and cleaning and then makes eye contact with you and remembers to make your smoothie. It's happened on multiple occasions. Their food is decent and so are the drinks, but be prepared for a long wait for average stuff. read more
