Just visited yesterday. What a gem. Terrific renovation of a very old building. Right in the heart of Jerome, you will not be disappointed. Delicious drinks ( French 75!), atmosphere and food. I ate the avocado toast & their signature tomato poblano soup. Mary and Mike we're huge assets to this restaurant. My husband ordered the fillet it came with a side of potatoes. I'm not sure how they made those potatoes but they were incredible and the fillet was served in a little cast-iron and cooked perfect, medium rare. I ordered the pork chops with a mushroom Marcella sauce? Interesting thing that did happen is that we got charged 3.5% for using our credit card. This place is super cute. It's on the main strip in Jerome and is quaint and small inside. There's a few tables along the window with a nice view, a bar in the middle with open seating and booths and tables around. The decor is modern with the old copper decor as well. We sat by the window and it was lovely. Our waitress was nice, the food did take quite awhile but they were busy! I had a the prickly pear mojito which was delicious. Super sweet and strong! The truffle fries were phenomenal. They had big chunks of Parmesan cheese with garlic and not overly greasy. Highly recommend. For lunch, I had the grilled cheese with the tomato mushroom soup. The grilled cheese was on a large homemade sourdough with crusted cheese on the outside. The only thing I didn't like was the ricotta. Would definitely ask for this without next time. The soup was AMAZING, it had chips in it and the mushroom taste made the flavor pop. It wasn't too strong but just gave a hint of flavor! My grandma had the chicken sandwich which I would get next time as it looks great! My grandpa got the cob salad and the aesthetic was beautiful. Also a nice and unique spread for the salad. Absolute GEM!!! The food is delicious; their tomato poblano soup with grilled cheese is AH-MAZING!!! The mussels with the potato noodles was so tasty for garlic lovers like me. And lastly, their own bartender Joe created the white sangria with Pinot Grigio and their house mix peppers infused vodka, with sprinkles of tajin and garnished with fresh cilantro. This most recent visit I wanted to go for dinner and I'm so glad we did! My Chicken Milanese was outstanding! Served with orichette pasta which I just love. For breakfast the next day I tried their Croque Madame which was excellent! Country ham and melted gruyere over fresh brioche, blanketed with a tasty mornay sauce and two sunny-side eggs. Fantastic dish! Service here is nothing short of remarkable. Even the hotel portion which we stayed at for 2 nights. This place gets rave reviews and deservedly so. The Clinkscale was recommended to us by a friend as a must-eat while visiting Jerome and it ended up being one of our favorite meals during our recent trip to Arizona! The building and interior is gorgeous, the service and hospitality was top-tier, and the food was DELICIOUS! My husband and I visited on a Friday around 1:00 pm and were seated right away without a reservation. FAST FACTS: * Reservations - Available online through OpenTable * Parking - Plenty of street parking available within a reasonable walking distance * A 3.5% surcharge is added to non-cash transactions SERVICE - Our server, John, was FANTASTIC! Honestly, he was one of the best servers I've ever had because he was extremely friendly and personable but not in a cheesy or annoying way. He made conversation with us, gave recommendations, and made sure we had everything we needed from start to finish. PRICING - The total was $57.19 after tax and a 3.5% non-cash adjustment but before tip for a coffee ($3), hot chicken & biscuits ($16.95), artisan grilled cheese & roasted tomato poblano soup ($15.95), side of chili-glazed bacon ($4), and beignets ($9.95). The pricing was very reasonable for the portion size and quality of the food! ARTISAN GRILLED CHEESE & ROASTED TOMATO POBLANO SOUP (10/10) - My absolute FAVORITE grilled cheese I've ever had! This was recommended to us by a friend and I'd pass along that recommendation to anyone eating here! The tomato soup is the perfect thickness and has a delicious flavor with the poblanos... but the true star is the sandwich. The bread is thick but still soft and the encrusted asiago on the outside gives it so much flavor. The combination of cheeses inside was PERFECTION! HOT CHICKEN & BISCUITS (7/10) - These were good but not the best chicken and biscuits I've ever had. The buffalo sauce paired really well with the sausage gravy but the breading on the chicken didn't have a ton of flavor and wasn't super crispy. The biscuits were fluffy and soft but again, not the best I've ever had. But, you do get a big serving for the price with two biscuits drenched in plenty of gravy and three decent size pieces of chicken. CHILI-GLAZED BACON (6/10) - We got a side order of the bacon because "chili-glazed" intrigued us but it just tasted like regular bacon. I wouldn't get it again... it was crispy but very thin and lacked flavor. BEIGNETS (9/10) - These are the perfect sweet ending to a lunch or dinner! You get 6 good size beignets and a trio of sauces... a raspberry compote, vanilla bean custard, and chocolate ganache. All three sauces are delicious! The beignets were light and airy... a little less dense than some others I've had. They aren't overly sweet on their own but the powdered sugar and sauces take care of that. Some of them were a little undercooked on the inside which I didn't mind but others might not like. While we enjoyed some items more than others, we will dream about this lunch at The Clinkscale because the grilled cheese and tomato soup were THAT incredible! We stopped by Jerome on the way home from Sedona, just curious as to what Jerome was all about. In Sedona we had eaten at a very well known and recommended restaurant and it was fine. Not great, but fine. We came upon Clinkscale around lunchtime and decided to have lunch, not having any idea of how wonderfully delightful the experience was going to be. As busy as the restaurant was (and it was packed), our waiter Jeff couldn't have been more kind and accommodating. He made us feel welcomed and never rushed. On top of the wonderful service, the food was absolutely amazing- in presentation and taste. We've never had better fish tacos and the salad was not only delicious, but a work of art. Before I start, you must know that last night I had the most disappointing Filet Mignon. So, tonight's Filet Mignon here at the Clinkscale was the "do over" steak. I ordered the filet and it was nothing shy of perfect. To be able to produce a mid rare steak and still have the classic "bark" on the exterior is nothing short of impossible for everyone BUT The Clinkscale. The herb compound butter was so perfectly melted before it arrived to my table. That's a first! Every other place seems to think that chilled butter hockey puck is something special. News flash, it's not! We want it melted and perfect like The Clinkscale! And then! Because I'd like to save a few calories, despite the melted pool of butter that my steak was sizzling in, I said no to the fried French fries and went for the mashed potatoes. Oh. Em. Gee! Get the mashed taters!!!! Despite having some natural and perfect small chunks in the mash, it was beyond smooth and luxurious. Now how is that possible? It just is, trust me! I loved making the drive just to come eat here until today. While my husband and I were eating at the bar, a female employee with short blondish curly hair, decided to cough repeatedly right in our direction EVERY time. After about 6th time I asked her to please stop coughing towards us while we are eating. Her response was "it was not intentional" ???? Well I would hope not ... what a weird response. Jerome is a neat town that we stopped by in on our road trip up north. After walking around, we needed a break for lunch. We came upon The Clinkscale and decided to go in. It was a little later than lunch time on a Friday, so we (5 of us) were seated immediately. Their menu had a variety of items ranging from pancakes for breakfast / brunch to salads & sandwiches for lunch. I ordered the Basil Grilled Chicken sandwich and upgraded my side to truffle fries. My husband got the Hot Chicken & Biscuits, my mom got the lemon ricotta pancakes, and my dad got the avocado toast. Overall, we were all happy with our lunch. The hot chicken & biscuits dish was delicious but very heavy with all the gravy; probably a good one to split. I liked the grilled chicken sandwich, it had a good amount of flavor. The truffle fries were seasoned well, they were the thinner shoestring kind (not my personal preference when they're not plain but they were okay). We were pleasantly surprised by the lemon ricotta pancakes, not too sweet which was nice. It did take a while to get our food once we put in our order but this restaurant definitely seems like a come and hang out kind of place. The Clinkscale never disappoints and John was our awesome server. Despite being from Kansas City, we are regulars and we recommend others to dine here. We have never had a bad meal and really enjoy the vibe. We knew there wasn't a ton of seating, and John shared there are only 13 tables. I could see one side of the bar had 5 seats and assume the other was the same. We had reservations for 5p, but managed to come in sooner and was able to be seated right away. We shared the Steak & Blue Cheese Bruschetta, Grilled Shrimp & Parmesan Grits, Peach Cobbler Bread Pudding as well as the Arizona Mojito and Mingus Fog. We would be hard pressed to rank the food as they were all awesome. This was our first overnight stay at Clinkscale as well as our first dining experience. The service was impeccable, with one exception. That being our server was obviously a newbie. He missed our need for service. Then, who pops out of nowhere was Christine, another server, who saw that we were obviously stressed about no attention from our server (at least 30 min). We just wanted dessert! Christine accommodated us immediately and was so pleasant and gracious that our stress disappeared. She is an amazing server, is on top of things, with great people skills and intuitiveness. Joe, the bartender, was very friendly, funny and accommodating. Couldn't leave without the beignets; served sugared and hot with 3 different sauces (chocolate, raspberry, and a cream)! The restaurant seats approximately 40 so strongly recommended reservations. I wish the Clinkscale was closer to home. If it was, we would eat here twice a week. While in Jerome, we ate here three times in two days - two dinners and a breakfast. All were top notch. Lets start with the charming old building. The owners have done a marvelous job of making it comfortable without losing the character. The building is nothing without good people. Mike, the manager, has chosen some great people. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and professional. The bartending was superior. We experienced three different bartenders, and they all had great skills behind the bar top. The food is truly fine dining quality. I know this is Jerome, but I feel the food quality and execution is on par with any big city steakhouse. I was blown away by my filet. They serve it a bit under on a cast iron skillet with butter sauce so you can sear every bite as you slice it off the filet. The shrimp cocktail was just dreamy. They imparted a lot of flavor in the shrimp by grilling them before chilling. The two sauces they come with were great by themselves or mixed together. Wherever we talked about food in Jerome, everyone recommended the Clinkscale. Now, we do the same. If your in the vicinity, eat here. You will be blown away! read more
