We'd been waiting months to go check out the newly re-opened Comus Inn. We were excited to see the changes and check out the new menu. Talk about being disappointed. I had about the worst meal ever there tonight. The French Dip was gray meat that looked like it had been boiled sitting on a soft egg based bread with a very thin spread of what might have been mayo. The "dip" was an oil topped brown mystery liquid with absolutely no flavor whatsoever, certainly not a hint of beef or even a suggestion of salt. This came with no sides and with an 8 oz club soda that cost me $30.00. It was awful. My friend got the fish and chips with a side of fries, which she very much enjoyed. I have to admit the fries were very good - very crispy, which she was kind enough to share and they were the only thing I ate. Somehow, we ended up paying before we ate. At the outside patio, they treat it like a take out order, so you pay first and they call your cell when the food is ready. I will NEVER do that again! I would not have paid for this meal it was so bad! I said something to the girl who took our order and she said she would have a manger come speak with me and adjust my payment, but as no one came after 30 minutes, we just left. Oh, and one other thing. In the space outside in the back where we were sitting, there were children there who I'm guessing were part of some day care program who's parents had dropped them off and were coming back later to get them because they were just running around at top speed all over the place completely unsupervised, in between the tables, as if it was some kind of play ground and its perfectly normal to have sweaty, shouting children romp around non-stop. read more

We sent email after email. No response, then when I call I was told she doesn't check her email on a regular. Then she told us that she would be out of town until November then when we called just a couple of days ago. Surprise surprise she was back in town. We came in for dinner on Saturday evening. They don't take reservations except for Sunday brunch, so we weren't sure what to expect. The outdoor area was over run with wild children. The weather wasn't great, so we didn't want to sit outside anyway. They had live music and the musician was quite good, at least what we heard while walking from the parking lot. Once inside, we asked if we could sit at the bar and the teen hostess seemed confused, but directed us to the tiny, four-seat bar that had someone sitting right in the middle of. Oh well, they had lounge seating. We ordered two beers, which were $9/each. I have no issue paying for good beer and their selection is excellent. The problem comes in when you serve it in a plastic cup. We were not outside, so there's no excuse. We looked over the menu but weren't that impressed and the number of feral children screaming and running around inside was giving me a migraine. We finished our beers and went somewhere else. No call the day before, no offer to move times and only blaming the Open Table app. Gross incompetence and awful attitude. They are not to be trusted. My husband and I walked in on Sunday afternoon. The staff lady was on the phone so we waited standing at the front. She was taking order on the phone for a long time. We waited until she finished and she said you can sit wherever you want. I said we were waiting for a long time thinking you have to seat us. Instead of signaling us to sit wherever or asking her phone customer to hold for a second and telling us to sit, she chose to let us wait. No customer is around. It was not busy. We sat and waited, no one came to take order. We feel discriminated. It was the worst feeling in the world. I really like the restaurant and told my husband several times to try. My daughter and I came here for lunch after a Saturday morning shopping trip at the Clarksburg Outlets. Naturally, we got hungry. I don't do mall eateries and there weren't many food options in the area that spoke to us. We actually used the Yelp app for ideas! Anyhoo, we came across Comus Inn's lunch menu and decided to go for it. It was 2:13 when I had called to make sure that lunch was served on Saturdays. I spoke with a gentleman who advised me that the last seating for lunch was at 2:30. I told him we were on our way! When we pulled up at 2:23, Jesse greeted us at the door, by name, before we got out of the car. I was beyond impressed! He is the warmest and friendliest host I've ever met. He sat us at the perfect table, in this quaint yet elegant restaurant with a beautiful view of Sugarloaf Mountain. We both ordered the Maryland Style Fish Tacos...Soft flour tortillas filled with Old Bay Blackened catfish and a delicious relish with lump crab, served with fresh cut fries. It was excellent...Full of flavor. I even ordered a well-deserved Passion Fruit Mojito that was just what the doctor ordered...Perfectly refreshing. The service and food at the Comus Inn was phenomenal and the view of Sugarloaf Mountain was a bonus...I think I'll bring my mother the next time. She'll love this place! read more

Everything went well until my wife found a lock of hair stuck to the tomato in the sauce. I called the young lady waiting for our table and showed it to her, but her response was sorry, do you want a replacement. At this point, she did not want to eat there any longer and said no. When the bill came, she had the total price for the item was included in it. When pointed out to her, the response was, "You already ate some of it so that I will charge only 50%". I was so disgusted with that response and said whatever. When the final bill came, I believe the supervisor asked her to remove the item from the bill, but no further apologies. We have been excited to try this place, as my wife has never been there and the last time, I was there was over 30 years ago. I see some say there are no reservations, but we had no trouble making them through open table. The service was great from start to finish so we had no complaints there. The food tasted outstanding. We ordered the perogies and they were probably the best we have ever had. I deducted the two stars for pricing and drinks. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri from their very limited menu. It came out in a plastic cup and had no flavor. Really a waste for the $10 I spent. I have no issues paying good money for a good drink...not the case. For the pricing of the food, it is outrageous to serve a $15+ item and you don't get any sides, unless you pay extra. Sadly, as much as we want to go back and make it one of our "go to" restaurants, that will not be happening. Outside area great. Restaurant has potential but needs work. Took our family of 8 to the Comus Inn on Saturday. Mostly older group. Not a rowdy bunch at all! Had reservations for 7:45. Party arrived early so went to Beer garden first. Had nice time. Typical beer garden atmosphere. Very enjoyable. Went to restaurant at reservation time and seated right away. Interior had been redone since last time we had been there and it looked very nice. Once seated I realized we were in sort of the front "bar" area. Still not a problem because it was not a big area and not too loud. Seemed like only large table for a large group. But that was went some issues became apparent. Our waiter was the bartender. He couldn't give full attention to our large group. So we waited a bit for anyone to come over to take drink and food orders. Once again there was a bit of a wait to get out drinks despite being right next to the bar. Then only half came out. Had to wait a good 10 minutes more for the specialty cocktails to be made. Then came the air to order food. When our waiter finally came to take orders he announced that they were out of 2 of the items on the very limited menu. (Which of course were items many of us were planning on getting). When food came out it was very inconsistent to say the least. 4 steaks were ordered. They were small supermarket type boneless strip steaks. None cooked correctly. One was so thin there was no way it could have been cooked medium rare like what was ordered. The others were twice as thick and still over cooked. The steaks came with fries (menu said hand cut but they were crinkle cut frozen type)but some plates had twice as many as they other. But the biggest problem was that one of our party ordered the chicken (not hard to cook.) but it was missing when food was delivered. They said it takes longer to cook. Wtf? We waited a bit to start eating but nothing. So started to eat slowly still no chicken. Finally when most of us were practically finished with our food (portions are small except for the blt) the chicken came out. But it was undercooked. So obviously it was either forgotten in the order or dropped and had to be remade? Idk? By this point the restaurant was closing down and we didn't have the energy to complain so we just finished our meal and paid and left. Oh and never told about or asked if we were interested in any desserts. . With the limited menu items what is prepared should be more consistent. Also the prices were higher than what I expected based on open table rating and the portions. Flavors were good, atmosphere/look is great. Again restaurant has potential but need improvements and consistency. Will try again but was disappointed on this outing. read more

This place is AWESOME. If you haven't been here in the last year you need to put down everything you are doing right now and SPRINT over here. They have a great menu (the pizza and pork nachos are my favs, but every single thing I have had here is good), and their beer menu is quite accomplished. Oh yeah, and did I mention the super cool "farmhouse chic" vibe with the most amazing outdoor space. Kids and dogs are always welcome. And if that wasn't enough (because it should be) they have live music, outdoor games, and a beautiful view of Sugarloaf Mountain. I hadn't been to the Comus Inn for a couple of years, owing mostly to Covid. We went for brunch the other day, and had a very pleasant meal and some drinks, with excellent service. The big surprise, on the very generous brunch menu, was a massive BLT, comprised of 1 pound of bacon, fresh lettuce and tomato, avocado, a special sauce, on two very large slices of toasted sourdough. Be sure to go downstairs and check out the new venue, AND Go outside for a stroll. There's a great view of Sugarloaf Mountain. read more

Hoped for a quaint dinner, and had some mixed feelings. Beautiful location and atmosphere. Service was wonderful. But the plating was high/low (some things in glass/China while others were in plastic), which was confusing. Some dishes were presented beautifully, others globbed into a mess, ruining the overall taste. The drinks were great, but served in plastic cups. The starters were also excellent. My husband loved his prime rib, but I didn't love my pork shoulder because of above statement. We'll come back in the summer for their outdoor area. I don't mind drinking good beer out of plastic cups when I'm on a patio with a mountain view. read more

The Comus Inn will always hold a special place in my heart because it is where my fiance and I will be getting married in October. However, we would never have picked the Comus Inn had we not been so completely impressed with their service, offerings, and cuisine. We did not pick this place lightly; we have eaten there half a dozen times over the course of the past few months alone. We have met the General Manager, Event Coordinator, and, of course, the wait staff. When you arrive at the Comus Inn, expect to be greeted by a friendly face. Usually, Jessie is right up front, and he will make you feel like a VIP! Ask him about the story behind the Comus Inn -- it's a Civil War era building turned into a restaurant, and it has a lot of history! Strike up a conversation; you won't be disappointed. If you have the time (and if a wedding isn't going on), ask to see the upstairs of the building. It's a gorgeous place with American history clearly laid into its walls. My fiance and I have come here only for brunch and lunch as we are generally morning people and not keen on dinner dates. Besides which - our wedding will be a morning affair, and we wanted to know what their brunch food would taste like. I can tell you -- we have never been disappointed. My favorite thing about the Comus is that they have a real chef, which means that their menu changes for special occasions, seasons, or when the chef runs out of an ingredient (as once happened for me -- he whipped me up something unique! and delicious). My other favorite thing is that their food is locally sourced! I am so glad to pay a little more to have my food come from small local farms and businesses. And -- the proof is in the pudding -- it tastes better too. The wait staff are wonderful here. They are always happy to answer questions (and quite knowledgeable about the food). The view is impeccable if you are fortunate enough to get a seat out on the balcony area (ask for one when you make your reservation; it's worth it! Especially if there's not a wedding going on -- wedding tents block the view). For those seeking a venue for an event of any nature, I highly recommend the Comus. Cheryl, the Event Coordinator, is amazing, kind, organized, communicative, professional, and just the type of person you know that you can trust with your event. I am so happy to have her helping me coordinate my big day. Events are typically held in the bottom portion of the building (which you should also check out of you have time). I'll be including a ton of photos with this review, so hopefully that shows you just how elegant this place is. The bottom area is complete with its own full bar finished in polished dark woods -- it's gorgeous, really. There's even a small wine room that offers elegance and sophistication to the atmosphere. Should your event require a tent, the tent that they use is amazing. I'll be including pictures of this too -- but imagine drapings coming down to cover the ceiling of the tent -- and chandeliers to add to the beauty and make you totally forget that you're actually under a tent roof. The white barn that lies behind the Inn is finished inside now, and if you check out the Comus Inn's Facebook page, you'll be able to see pictures. It's the perfect place for a groom's party to get ready -- I can't wait to take pictures there. It adds so much character to the venue! From what I've heard, the Comus Inn closed down for a few years -- and this new management has taken it to the next level. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you are looking for somewhere to celebrate anything or just have a wonderful meal that makes you and everyone you're with feel special -- look no further. I'm not one to leave poor reviews but after reading other reviews and thinking over our experience there last night, My husband and I were very, very disappointed. We had made reservations and were looking forward to a delicious anniversary dining experience based on the menu write ups on their website. The entire experience was extremely disappointing beginning with the rude hostess, the waiter who had no idea about the menu offerings, cheep paper napkins, and "kitchen table" quality tables in the dining room. Other than the crab dip which was very good, the main menu items were grossly undercooked and the salmon had a "sauce" that wasn't edible due to too much lemon. I cannot recommend this restaurant and that's so sad because we had always had wonderful experiences there prior to the pandemic. read more

We came for brunch to celebrate Father's Day and had a wonderful experience. The host was so personable and friendly. They sat us early and were very accommodating to us arriving before our reservation. Every single thing we ordered was delicious. The banana bread and beignets were AMAZING. Seriously, get them. We also ordered the mushroom omelet, crab Benedict & chicken and waffle. They were all phenomenal. We had sides of cheesy grits and those were too! Have been to Comus Inn in the past and had good experiences. Today, Mother's Day was the worse. The buffet was way overpriced and completely tasteless. For $50 per person you would think you have an option of seafood and not crappy salmon. Couldn't even get to the eggs as the line was too long and only one cook. Not only $50 per person but cocktails were $12, for the price of the crappy meal you would think they could throw one in at least. The server mentioned to the owner my issues and he didn't even think to come to the table. I wasn't looking for a discount or anything, just wanted to give my opinion. Great destination. We were returning from Frederick to DC and to avoid traffic on 270 decided to detour to Comus Inn. As we were being seated, ordering & waiting for our food I just knew we were going to be disappointed. I have been disappointed before by Comus Inn. I ordered a Burger and fries and it was served to me on an ice cold pewter plate on freezing cold evening. The same thing happened with our dessert that was described to us as a oven warm cinnamon bun served with ice cream. It was served in a mini iron skillet and was also FREEZING COLD (pan & Bun). We laughed and decided they must have a window open in the kitchen. We will probably end up at Comus again because it IS a great destination but will not hold any hope for a wonderful meal. read more

Beautiful location, excellent service, but the food was pretty unexciting (especially for the price). Everything was decent enough, but it was really just mediocre. I had the wedge salad (Iceberg Wedge Salad, Buttermilk Lime Dressing, Comus Sweet Onion Tomato Jam), which was just that. A large hunk of lettuce topped with croutons, cheese and dressing. I didn't care for the tomato jam with it; it tasted like putting salsa on lettuce and wasn't particularly appealing. Bacon was available, but I requested not to have it included with mine. The honey butter was tasty, but not worth the calories. I enjoyed the leek and potato soup (soup of the day), but it was very heavy and I suspect made with some sort of animal product (bacon grease or beef stock?) because it left a bad taste in my mouth and I left with indigestion. We shared the Strawberry Bruschetta with Jalapeno Cornbread Toast, Goat Cheese Crumble and Berry Balsamic Reduction and while tasty, the cornbread toast didn't taste much like cornbread, but more like a whole wheat toast of some sort and vaguely of jalapeno. The goat cheese and strawberry balsamic topping were generous however and of all of the items that I sampled, this was the tastiest. Finally, for dessert I had the Dark Chocolate Torte Caramel Mousse, Praline, Blood Orange Caramel and Chocolate Sauce. It honestly tasted like an enormous hunk of dark chocolate with a bit of sugary caramel icing. It was really just a large Lindt dark chocolate truffle in my mind. It was very heavy and rich, but was rather dry and unexciting. I wouldn't order it again. This would be an excellent place to grab a glass of wine, a snack and enjoy the impeccable service and views of the country, but I wouldn't eat here again. read more

Went there today for a family event - reservation for 9 people including a person w/wheel chair. Got there - they tried to take us upstairs and seemed surprised when we reminded them of the wheel chair requirement. Checked and it was noted on the reservation. Put us at 2 tables downstairs adjacent to the kids screaming while playing Foosball. Metal cups w/luke warm tap water - yep, tasted like metal. Wait staff missed a meal and seemed in no rush to get corrected or apologize for the mistake. Food had little taste. Aside from the screaming kids (I have multiple kids and they weren't screaming and running in/ out of the area). Ran out of water - apparently difficult to keep a large party supplied. Pre-ordered a cake - wait staff had no idea what we were talking about when prompted. Finally delivered - had little taste. Very disappointing. Handicap ramp is falling apart - accident waiting to happen Overall - no. Won't go back. Spoke with manager who made lots of excuses - quality has taken a significant drop with new management. Wifi is terrible - staff doesn't know, doesn't have passwords for guest network. Explained wifi was spotty - we were 6' away from an access point. Wasn't at a restaurant for wifi but another point that just definitely be resolved. Was a regular for Thanksgiving/ Christmas dinner - new management is not looking for that crowd. This review is for brunch. The menu has a nice variety of breakfast and lunch food and everything we tried was delicious. Start with the crab hush puppies. So tender with three dipping sauces. Skip the red catsup sauce and go do the other 2. Beignets were good, but very large. Not the small squares like Cafe du Monde. The shrimp and grits were a big hit - creamy, cheesy grits, large shrimp and plenty of andouille sausage in the creole sauce. The mushroom omelette was fluffy with tons of cheese and the Bella mushrooms were cooked perfectly. Not mushy or watery. The biggest hits at the table were the bacon side and the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. 4 generous pieces of perfectly cooked bacon with a very unique flavor. The meatloaf was tender and flavorful (pork and beef) with a rich sauce/gravy. The taters were fluffy and buttery. They gravy added flavor did not overwhelm the dish. Beautiful setting overlooking Sugarloaf Mountain. Friendly attentive service. We will be back. read more

The good: The views and the grounds are very pleasant. Now let's talk about the rest... I have visited the lawn area twice, and it is beautiful for sure. BUT None of the staff seem to know either the schedules, menus, or what is going on there. The bathrooms are always dirty (Bad odor) The prices are UNREAL. 16 dollars for a burger plus 6 dollars for fries; Crazy!!! Other places where you pay $18 for a burger will get you the works plus salad if you wish. The chicken wings are so so. The salad is pretty good. Thursday happy hour (half price for wine) is like the offer; "half mediocre." You get the views, the grounds, the outdoor games but no music, no board games available, no willingness to be open. Not inviting at all. Plus, staff will not tell you when the happy hour is over so, you will pay a premium for the next bottle... Did I mentioned how expensive it is!!! If you choose the outdoors, the food will be served in a bag (to-go) so you have to fetch napkins, utensils, everything!! Bad service. Some people mentioned the high school kids that work there. The staff is very nice; just misguided by the management. Really guys, be more mindful of the guess that can afford those prices and make their time more enjoyable. read more
