It's sad what the new owners have done here. After a lot of great times here before it changed hands, we tried it again on a Saturday. They took out the couches downstairs and the shuffleboard outside, added much more seating, and the food is just nowhere close to the same level, it's bad, and there are way fewer food options, but the food prices are the same. They also closed the ice cream out front, who does that? We won't be back except for drinks maybe--but one beer and one cocktail we're $25 so we'll probably pass on this place. The new owners gutted the place, so it looks upgraded, but that's about the only thing upgraded- the menu is lacking healthy options, the food is overpriced for the quality and . The service is terrible with long wait times for food and no clear direction from staff on where to place orders for drinks, food or takeout. Yes, the restaurant with $16-$18 sandwiches is "serve yourself". Tonight, we waited an hour for takeout salads (!). When we placed the order we were told there'd be a 15 min. wait. Once the food came out we expected some sort of discount since we waited so long-- nothing. It seems like whoever is managing the place is either new to the food service industry or is just incompetent. It's also extremely crowded most days and they aren't limiting capacity or enforcing social distancing. Never eating here again. We've given them too many chances. This place has gone under new management and it is VERY family friendly. As in, screaming children are allowed to run free with a loud foosball table inside. Some of our other grievances: -we called ahead and asked for a seat on the main floor since we had a guest in a wheelchair. After being assured this was fine, they tried to seat us upstairs (no elevator), and then moved us downstairs. -they got numerous orders incorrect. -the good just wasn't that great. In sum, don't come here if you don't love screaming children. However, if you do have kids, you won't be judged when they make as much noise as they want. read more

We drove from DC to try this wonderful restaurant for brunch and I am happy to say it did not disappoint! We arrived with a reservation for 10 am (when they open) and they were ready to attend us. The view from the restaurant is beautiful and it we truly enjoyed the peaceful countryside as an escape from the city. Our server was nice and the beverages and food arrived promptly. Everyone loves their food! I highly recommended the chicken and waffles and the BLTA. The fried chicken was so wonderfully seasoned, crispy, and moist. I was so pleasantly surprised at how delicious their house made hot sauce was. I was afraid it would be vinegary but the flavors were lovely and the kick was perfect. The BLTA seemed to have an entire avocado on it and so much thick and smoky bacon! Go with an appetite because the portions are rather large! Came here for my mom's birthday and it was a very nice dining experience. The staff are professional and extremely friendly. The view was absolutely beautiful! The food was very nicely cooked and good portions. I had the pork chop special which was actually a little lacking in salt (which says a lot cause I really don't salt my food much). What a treat after a hike on Sugarloaf Mountain. We've been here before for events but not just for a meal. We were just going to drop by for some hot beverages but ended up ordering dinner, desserts, and a round of whiskey, and stayed to listen to a local artist, Brian Harris. (He is fantastic). The service was great. Every staff we encountered was so nice. At one point they even moved another heater close to our table and we had two. Perfect, with the hot beverages, decadent German Chocolate cake, Vanilla biscotti and listening to live music. Couldn't have asked for a better brisk fall evening with friends. Highly recommend both desserts. The Chai tea was also nice - She said they don't use the powder - Thank goodness. I will be coming by here for a hot beverage and dessert more often! For dinner we had Pepperoni pizza, Sausage and Pepper pizza, Crab Dip, and Pretzel with mustard - in that order of tastiness. Really liked the Pepperoni pizza. The sausage wasn't bad but my friends said it was lacking tomato sauce but good overall. The crab dip was a bit too rich for my liking but I liked the sourdough complement - the bread was also nice and steamy hot when we got it, which was a plus. The soft pretzel was not soft at all and actually white stale. Overall the food was good and the atmosphere is a great complement. We just moved into the area, so my husband and I are looking for new places to eat. I was looking for a brunch place, and the one we were originally going to was packed, so we ended up here. Cute and quaint house in the middle of lots of land. My favorite thing about our brunch was the view and I'm bummed we didn't go sunset instead. That would be the best time if you're looking to visit this place. We both ordered the special for that morning: I ordered corned beef hash with scrambled eggs, but the eggs were so little, I ordered another side of eggs and had orange juice to drink. Corned beef was oily, eggs dry and flaky. My husband ordered the Santa Fe omelette, 2 biscuits and sausage gravy. He said the best part of his meal was the biscuits. Unwelcoming hostess sat us at a two top when other couples had a four top. We asked to be moved from the table shoved against the wall and were moved to a table with the blazing sun making us both too warm. We decided to stick it out. Next up - inexperienced wait staff. Took a LONG time to come to the table. Didn't understand what "hold the onion" on the burger meant and wrote "only onion on the burger". Tried to take Scott's plate while he was putting food in his mouth. Tried to pour red wine into the same glass that white wine had been served in.... Now - the food. Farmers cheese is soft cheese in a mason jar with half loaf of toast. It wasn't awful, just poorly described on the menu. Scott's burger was well done, not medium as ordered. The five-inch black hair on my entree plate of trout definitely took the enjoyment out of the dish. We were brought the check before Scott finished eating, though we were happy to be able to leave without delay. We won't be going back. So many of us in the area had high hopes for the reopening of the Comus Inn. read more

Decided to splurge and come here a few months ago with a Friday night reservation. I'm not kidding you when I say we sat at our table for 45 mins without anyone even bringing us drinks. The whole place is staffed by teenagers who look like they belong at a beachside burger joint. I went and told the hostess that we had yet to be served, and she said she's flag someone down. Another 15 minutes and I watched the waiters chat with each other behind the bar. We were so hungry at that point we gave up and walked out. The worst experience. I've been going to the Comus Inn for decades and it has hit a new low, even factoring in covid and supply problems. The food was horrible, the atmosphere is ruined, once lovely and serene, now so loud, you can't hear each other. The beer garden is nice but it takes away from the charm of the once bucolic restaurant. I've had exactly one good meal at Comus in all the year I've been going there. I went for the atmosphere when I budgeted to be able to afford it. Haven't been there is about 6 years, and I will never return unless it returns to its former quiet, atmospheric haven. read more

Under new ownership, this historic building has changed from Grandma's drab palor to a trendy, rustic, fun place to get some great food or just hang with friends. Gone are the tablecloths and dusty curtains, but in a nod to the rich history of the building, they've kept unusual plates and pewter cups. You can get a phenomenal meal on the main level or enjoy a lower beer garden menu. Chef Sammy creates some of the most wonderful combinations that change seasonally, and every dish is better than the last. The beer selection is all craft brews! Another YAY! Coors light drinkers, consider yourself warned. While the food/beverages call us back, the real treasure at the new Comus Inn is the amazing staff and the extraordinary view of Sugarloaf. They have free music on weekends, tons of seating, including Adirondack chairs around fire pits, and a little fish pond. Everyone is so friendly and there is never a bad sunset at Comus. Yay! Finally made it here!!! It's staffed by what mostly seem like high school kids so it has quite the local vibe . This is a staple in the area that many folks travel far for. We sat in the outside beer garden and the food took a long time. We weren't in a rush though so it's okay. Indoors had many families and table games. However it is a bit pricey considering they serve you with to go containers. Indoor finer dining looks very fun but pricier. Worth it for a date night or nice dinner but not any old night out to eat. Make sure you get there in time for sunset if you're doing dinner! Great view. Keep an eye on their events because in the summers they do movies on the lawn. We were disappointed with our experience today after a great one when they first opened up again. After our first experience after their reopen I raved to people about good the food and service were. Today, there was live music and when we arrived, we were told that the outside was first come first serve. Cool, we weren't told that there was no table service even though it seemed like larger parties were getting service such as water bottles and closing out tabs. We sat with 2 kids thinking we might have a server. We decided on some food and drinks and then I went into the downstairs bar area where you could order food and drinks. $12 for a kids chicken tender meal which was 3 chicken tenders and a handful of fries, yikes! I had the French drip for $17 with no sides and even with the horseradish sauce, was not to flavorful! Wife had Cobb salad and it was fine but nothing we would go back for after spending $70+ with no service. Wasn't very clear who to tab out with so I had to get back in the drink line to tab out. I found this all very confusing after our last visit on a Friday night back in the fall where there were food specials and table service. There are too many other restaurants in the area that I would pay this kind of money for my family to eat out. read more

This was the first time my wife and I dined at the Comus Inn under the new ownership. The re-modeled dining room is less formal than before - no white linens. Same great view, though. The water glasses were tin cups, so the waiter could not tell when you were running low. The wine list is OK, but I would like to see some better wines on the list. The wine came in plastic water glasses. I asked if they could put mine in a real wine glass, which they did without complaint. The spinach salad was good but over-dressed. I had the lamb lasagna which was good. My wife had the chicken, which was a bit overdone. Her scalloped potatoes were undercooked (crunchy). The carrot cake was good and the creme brulee was the best part of the meal. The manager did apologize for the potatoes and did not charge us for one of the desserts. All-in-all, it wasn't a great meal. I'm hoping it's just growing pains and they will improve with time. My wife and I will give them a few months and try again. read more

This was a really pleasant surprise we found after our hike. We got there on a holiday but service was still fine. We waited maybe 20-30 minutes for food. It was very fresh and very good. I think for what it was, the price was fair. Because it's much better quality than at a dive. We are not locals so can't speak to what's been at the location before. I've given this place a few chances and I think I'm done now. The prices are obscene! Food is mediocre at best and to charge $5 for tiny portions of fries and coleslaw that should be included as sides on a $21 blt sandwich is insulting. The staff of high school kids should be trained to provide customer service and know what is actually on the menu. Too bad for them. Hope they work out some of their growing pains. read more
