Stopped in for a solo dinner. Sat at the bar and ordered a watermelon marg. Yum! Love the tajin rim. Fried zucchini for appetizer. Wish the breading had more flavor. I believe I've been to the Corner 5 times; twice for dine-in, once for Happy Hour with a group, and twice to-go (during shelter order). For dinners, I've had the seared ahi tuna steak, tuna tartare tostados, and the burger- all highly recommended. The (48 hour) French Fries are extra crispy and delicious. Possibly the best fries ever -- somehow both crispy and pillowy, and seasoned to perfection. Came with a house sauce (very mayo-y, we both ended up passing on this one) and ketchup. Gnocchi Mac and Cheese: very good. Only came with a few gnocchi but it was so dense and filling it didn't really matter. Very pillowy and cheesy. Backyard Burger: extremely juicy and delicious. Came with the house sauce on it (again, mayo-y so next time we'll opt out of the sauce) but flavorful and filling even without getting a double patty. Brown Sugar Buttercake: so good! And smelled so good! Is more of a biscuit than a cake, but very reminiscent of a cobbler texture. Peanut Butter & Chocolate Tart: heavy on the peanut butter and complemented by the pretzel crust, salty and sweet. Very rich, so keep that in mind if you've just ordered a full meal! Yum! I love it here and I don't come enough. And I need to start coming here more. I love sitting at the bar. I love the small plates. I love the cocktails are all used with fresh juice. I love the food. And I love the service. We always get greeted and provided great service. Their staff is always knowledgeable of their menu and what they have behind the bar. I am a beer drinker but when I come here I have to get a cocktail. The fresh juice is the best! It makes a big difference with the cocktail. And I had a special request for a jalapeño margarita which isn't on the menu but she made it for me anyways (happy face). We ordered the deviled eggs, jalapeño poppers, and short rib crispy tacos. All shareable between myself and the road-dog. Makes for a filling yet somewhat light lunch. You can tell everything is used with fresh ingredients. And your tastebuds are gonna be thrilled with you; trust me. Go and enjoy the foods. But more so for their signature cocktails! I had been wanting to try this place for while. The menu looked great and it is always busy. What was key is that it advertises chef owned and operated with farm to table meals. My friend has a strict diet so smaller restaurants like this are usually great at accommodating her needs. She ordered the marinated bok choy & honshimiji mushrooms/ soy vinaigrette. The changes requested were swap asparagus for the bok choy, no black pepper, no acid or vinegar. So she got Tuna covered in black pepper and lemon juice. asparagus and no mushrooms. I had the hand cut linguine & meatballs roasted chili paste/ bread crumbs/ amatriciana sauce. There is a line between al dente and raw. When the pasta is crunchy, that is raw. the sauce was ok, and the meatballs had an odd smell according to my friend. Honestly, Spaghetti Factory is better. Service was good and the place is a nice local spot. But, for $50, would I go back, probably not. A chef operated restaurant should be able to grill a piece of tuna with kosher salt and olive oil and properly cook pasta. But, it was probably just line cook that only knows one way to prep which is honestly inexcusable. Forgetting the mushrooms, well whatever. read more

My mixologist and flavor favorites. The baby beet salad included a lot to love. The spicy ricotta and sumac onions take this beet salad beyond your typical strip mall offerings. My plate came with tender golden beets and rich red jewels. The starter was The Corner's take on the classic French onion soup. This is a warming umami bomb. Rich broth, caramelized onions, mushrooms, and the floating cheese bread was enough to deserve a return trip on its own. The entree of a salmon filet over a thick creamy clam chowder is satisfying and comforting. Chef/Owner Chris Grodach is always reinventing the menu by the season so there is always something new along with our favorite Corner Classics. read more

This place is great. I actually tried them for the first time a couple of years ago at the HB food and wine festival and I was hooked. We go there regularly to get the short rib dinner. Apparently this is one of those places that thinks it's cute to have tiny portions and high prices. They even packaged it in a huge box that made it look even worse. With great food, great drinks and great customer service. I recommend the 48 hour fries and burger if you've never had them. I guess I wasn't impressed. Food was decent but lacking any wow factor. Came on a weeknight during happy hour 3-7pm daily. Notice that their prices have increased. Ordered the street taco and the meatball sliders, and jalapeno poppers off the HH menu. The street fish taco was pretty tasty but for $2.50, it was no better than the ones I get off of roach trucks in South Gate. The meatball sliders were good, made with garlic bread and very tasty, but once again nothing impressive. The jalapeno poppers were my least favorite, the jalepeno was still hard, barely baked with melted cheese and breadcrumbs on it, was not good at all. After these we also ordered their signature dish: "Fried Bologna" Croque Madame, it tasted like an overly oily grilled cheese with an egg on top, very greasy and lacking flavors. Overall, our meal was rather expensive even with HH prices, and the taste was just very mediocre for a restaurant who poise themselves as a modern/creative cuisine. Parking is very easy, and plentiful; bathrooms are very nice and clean. Service was nice and friendly, and the waitresses are very cute. read more

Dude, are you the only one working tonight??? Didn't think it was possible as he tended to 4 peeps sitting at the bar, 3 groups spread out at tables ... I let out a sigh of relief when he assured me his staff was on their way in. I was hungry and did not want to experience what some of the reviewers revealed with regard to lack of service. Sure enough 2 other guys and a gal rotated in checking up on us throughout the night, and I'm happy to report we were happy patrons! The food was tasty and just the right sharing sizes so that we could order a wide variety of items without having tons of leftovers. Was anxious to try the mac n cheese gnocchi, it was good but not mind blowing. Their fries were all very crispy with good dipping sauces ... I hate using "good" repeatedly but that seems to fit. I took my friend who happens to be a Mom for Mothers Day. We didn't want to wait so I called in advance check if the bar area was crowded. I spoke to Will and he said it would not be a problem. We walked in right away and the place was very unmemorable. The primary room is small and there is another room to the left and one in the back. They have brunch items like crepes, pot roast hash and steak and eggs, et al. But we opted for the small plates we had been hearing so much about. We ordered the short rib tacos (pic). gnocchi mac & cheese (pic) cheeseburger 48 hour fries and bacon wrapped dates (pic). The food seemed to take forever (at least 25 min). Unfortunately, the food was not worth the wait. The meat in the tacos was not savory. They came with a pepperocini, white cheddar and a watered down salsa that could not rescue this drowning ship. The gnocchi mac and cheese (artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes and parmesan) was also so-so. Not sure what all the hype was about. The cheeseburger (white cheddar cheese, bacon stuffed jalapeno, grilled onion and salsa mayo) was nothing special. The patty was small and despite all the ingredients was not flavorful. The fries were pretty good. They came with a house ketchup that had a kick and special sauce that basically looked like thousand island. The only item that was memorable were the dates (no this was not a date, she is a friend - hahaha). Bacon wrapped (how the f can you go wrong) and stuffed with blue cheese. Maybe they should have used the bacon and blue cheese on the burger especially for the $9 price tag. The meal cost $48 w/ 2 non-alcoholic drinks inc 20% tip. Would I return? It is highly unlikely for the price, the slowness and unmemorable food. I guess I just have to accept that Huntington Beach has very mediocre food. Sigh! Rich, decadent bites. My wife and I love tapas style meals, and The Corner hit the bullseye with each dish.
