They offer the basic beachside seafood experience. The sides are not that great--pretty lackluster. The confetti rice in particular is unappetizing. The new potatoes and corn are decent. The crab legs are hit and miss. The seasoning on the legs is wonderful. Last time I went, half my legs were fresh and the other half seemed old though. I do really enjoy their gumbo. This location is the best one in this area, we recently at the fort Walton location and it is NOT the same quality food or staff. Tonight we came here and have to rave that Nathan is hands down the best server we have encountered in Destin on our entire vacation. He was friendly, and made conversation with us naturally. He was prompt, polite, knowledgeable about the menu and food giving my husband great suggestions on what to order. We have encountered such bad service every single restaurant on most of our trips down and on this trip too, till tonight! My wife and I were staying at a condo west of the Crab Trap. Whenever we would get a break from the kids we would walk the ~1 mile down and then get a drink. We would sit at the bar that is right on the sand. The drinks and prices are pretty standard for all of the ocean front bars that sit at the public access beaches. Service was fast and polite, and you can't beat the view. So if you are with a small group and want a cocktail and a view I'd give it 5 stars. If you are going to eat here though I would give you caution. They don't take reservations, the area is packed, and it isn't great for large groups. If you come on a crowded night you are going to have a long wait. There also isn't much parking given you are competing with the public beach. So if you do want to eat here try and do it on off hours and also preferably walk in rather than drive. read more

On the bright side, there was less than a 15-minute wait, and if you're okay with spending $80 on a single dish and navigating beach-area parking, this place might work for you. We ended up doing all appetizers because the food was mediocre and we weren't spending an arm and a leg on actual meals for them to be bland as well. Not worth the risk. The hot crab dip made two of us in my party have stomach aches. Neither of us made it out of the restaurant before our stomachs started bubbling. Sorry to be graphic, but it's the honest truth. Visited The Crab Trap on two different occasions while on vacation. Our rental was just across the street so it was very convenient, but ample parking. While at the beach, we were able to walk up to the beachside bar for beverage and food service. The family also dined there one evening and we had a great experience. Nicole was our server tonight. She took care of us very well and was great. However, the food was pretty below average. The piece of house fish was very thin and small. Smaller gripe but annoying was that the shrimp boil wasn't de-veined. Plus it was served with butter flavored oil... and for $30+ not even real melted butter(think movie theater popcorn oil) was a bit of a letdown. One thing that really irked me-do not put another brands ketchup in a Heinz bottle. This is misleading and really threw off everyone at the table when they dipped their fries in (especially since this ketchup was watery and had a fruity flavor). Buy whatever ketchup.
