TLDR; food 4 stars great food, great pasta, great seafood. service 3 stars either low staff or just don't wanna be there This year has been tough for the service industry and I totally understand but it was downright uncomfortable and we weren't the only ones frustrated by the service. I felt bad for the waiter but he probably hated his job and didn't want to be there and it showed. I had a reservation and we were able to be seated a little earlier. First of all we sat there for probably 15 minutes with no water and no menu. Eventually we got the waiter and got some water and cutlery. We figured getting everything in at the same time was the way to go so we did that when he came around again. We weren't super hungry so we asked about portion sizes. He was super unhelpful so we just looked up pictures. We got the oysters, grilled octopus appetizer, and the broiled scallops with a side of black pasta in white sauce. The food was all really good. I definitely wish we got the full size of the pasta but I guess this worked too cause my friend wanted more seafood instead of more pasta like the main dish with scallops added. Over all we were content and not full, which is probably the way to go in this heat. The scallops were amazing. Lots of garlic and some breading, the scallops were cooked to perfection. Super tender and decently sized I could have eaten them forever. Anyway the waiter saw that we were done and we said we were done. Didn't take the plates, and didn't bring the check. 20 minutes later we finally caught him again and told him we would like the check. I don't know if it's just this one that's like this but despite food being good, service and ambiance are important too and this one wasn't on the mark. read more

Came here as a party of two for lunch on Friday - fortunately there was no line! However soon afterwards, a line started to form. This place is super tiny with an open kitchen, so it's a good idea to not have a party of more than 3-4 people. Service was excellent and super friendly, and it was really nice to see the chef cooking our food. We got the fried calamari as an appetizer and it was probably one of the best plates of calamari I've ever had. The breading was just right - usually I find that there is way too much breading relative to calamari. It came with a slice of lemon and the sever recommended dipping the calamari in the red (?) vinegar that was placed on every table with other condiments. The acidity really balanced out the fried taste of the dish - highly recommended! We next got the squid ink (black) pasta with aglio olio - ground squid with garlic. To be honest, I didn't taste too much of a difference between squid ink pasta and regular pasta however it was cooked perfectly al dente and the ground squid with all of the garlic really gave a nice flavorful punch to the dish. The Daily Catch is an Italian restaurant located in the North End. My husband and I went on a Tuesday afternoon around 1pm for lunch. We got really lucky and found street parking (2 hours limit) just steps from the restaurant. Across the street is the famous Mike's Pastry. We went with two of their most well known entrees. First we ordered the lobster fra diavolo for two. This has 1 1/4 pound lobster that is halved, mussels, little neck clams, and baby squids in it. It is cooked with linguine pasta with a spicy tomato sauce. We asked for spicy and it was not spicy at all. I ended up adding addition red chili flakes from the table. Everything but the mussels tasted fresh. They must have gotten a few bad ones in the batch. We also ordered a full sized entree of black pasta aglio olio which is a squid ink pasta with ground squid and a garlic olive oil sauce. We asked for extra bread to dip into the sauce because it was that good. The noodle was cooked al dente and I actually liked this more than the lobster. The restaurant is very small with about six tables. It is not ideal for groups larger than 4-5. The larger the group, the longer the wait. If you travel as a pair, be prepared to share a table with other customers. There is very little elbow room. The waiter was absolutely friendly. I can't wait to go back and try more of their dishes. I don't know if the good food justifies the TERRIBLE AND RUDE service here. I noticed that our waitress barely made eye contact with me when taking our order. Very short fused. Asked us ONCE if everything came out okay. After that, never to be seen. We were thirsty because we were done with our water but never asked us if we wanted a drink refill. Happily chatted with the table behind and beside ours. It's so disheartening. I wonder if it's because I was a different ethnicity? Came across this gem from recommendations of friends and loved this place! At first glance the location made me question whether I was at the right place but after looking at the menu it was love at first sight. Within the restaurant there were four tables (and outdoor dining but it was raining cats and dogs when we went), with each table separated via a plastic sheet. The kitchen was semi open so that we could see the chef cooking our order. After a long debate of all the wonderful dishes to order, for four people we got shrimp scampi, littleneck siciliano, agilio olio with scallop, and lobster fra diavolo. Each dish was well seasoned and cooked to perfection, with the pan itself brought to our table straight from the kitchen (we were cautioned that the dishes were very hot). The shrimp scampi had a perfect balance of butter and garlic, I could taste the sweetness and freshness of the shrimp. The butter garlic makes a perfect dipping sauce with the bread. For lack of better words, the littleneck siciliano tasted so fresh, the aroma of lemon-y white wine makes almost made me drink the sauce straight from the pan (just kidding, but the sauce is a fantastic dipping sauce for bread). Together, the lemon-y white wine sauce and buttery garlic sauce complements each other as dipping sauces. The agilio olio is homemade ink pasta made to perfection. The linguine had the right amount of chewiness, with added chewiness of minced calamari. We got scallop on top of it and it was sweet and fresh as well. Last but not least the lobster fra diavolo - we got the portion for one person, but it was definitely enough for two people. It had a mixture of all types of seafood: shrimp, calamari, mussel, littleneck, and lobster with a kick of spiciness. Honestly am not able to rate my favorite dish, as all of them are a must order in my opinion. Pro tip: highly recommend coming at an off hour. We came at an off hour around 3pm on a Saturday and were extremely lucky to be seated within five minutes. After we were seated we continuously saw other parties waiting outside to be seated. Additionally, note that this is a cash only restaurant (but there is a citizens bank right next to the store). Despite being a small restaurant, it's not hard to see why The Daily Catch is beloved by everyone that has visited. I look forward to coming back again! read more

Spot on food and excellent customer service! We ordered the Clam Casino, Calamari Platter, and the Mixed Shellfish Pasta. Everything was delicious and tasted fresh! Our server was amazing as well. Attentive and quick even though she was literally the only server at this tiny restaurant! We saw a sign that they're hiring too so they're definitely short staff. However, the fact that the server stayed so upbeat is very impressive. We constantly heard her and the chefs in the kitchen yelling back and forth "Is everyone Ok?" to each other, probably as a morale booster sort of declaration. We came here first on Sunday night and tried to get take out but were told the restaurant was too busy for any take out orders. Understandable as the kitchen only had two chefs with literally a 40+ person line out the door. We decided to come back when they opened for lunch the next day, Monday, Memorial Day. We got there around 11:15 and waited a little over two hrs in line. The restaurant sit about 20-25 ppl inside so you're just waiting for people to finish eating. We ordered the agilo squid ink pasta and a 1/2 scallop 1/2 little neck clam linguine with white wine sauce. We added some amount of salt to the squid ink pasta (1-2 teaspoon) because it was a bit bland and doughy. Afterwards, it was a lot more enjoyable. I really liked the chopped up sautéed squid it came with. (3.5/5). The scallop/little neck clam linguine was fantastic! The sauce had great flavor, garlicky and a hint of wine and i think olive oil. They also gave a generous portion of fresh scallops and clams. (5/5) Now would I wait 2 hrs for the food again? No, But would I come back? Most definitely! I recommend coming around 10:30am if you can or at an off time like 3pm so you don't have to wait in that long of a line. They definitely have a great selection of seafood, but that line outside is killer. Highly recommend trying it once even if you have to wait 2hrs and then decide if it's worth or not. *CASH ONLY* prices range from $10apps to $20-$30 entrees and lobster is about $85. I also don't recommend coming here in large groups 1-4 would be okay but 1-2 is probably better tbh. read more

OMG! So worth the wait! However we only waited about half an hour... the restaurant only accommodates 18 people. Andre was so great waiting on us, friendly and efficient! Wilfredo is a fabulous chef! Everything we ordered was perfection! Paulo was working so hard to make everything pristine. Would highly recommend!! This place definitely gives off a good hole-in-the-wall vibe. An extremely busy place that serves phenomenal food; a must try if you're in town! Food: We ordered their infamous Lobster Fra Diavolo for two and Aglio Olio Black Pasta. Let me just say, both dishes live up to their hype - simply extraordinary! The flavoring of both were unique and did not overpower the other so going back and forth between the two was no problem! I personally liked the Aglio Olio more simply because I'm a fanatic when it comes to flavoring and this dish definitely packs a punch! The Lobster Fra Diavolo seemed lighter in seasoning but as such allows each seafood item to retain their natural flavors. Service: When I went, it was a single waitress tending to all the tables - and she was super on top of things. The place is fairly small but if I had to guess, it fits around 15-18ish customers at a time - a good number of guests for a single person to tend to without slowing down even with the turnover of customers. Price / Quantity: The prices were higher than anticipated on first glance; but after having tried the food, I left very happy with the amount I put down for such good food. FYI, our party of 2 finished both dishes and were both at a good level of fullness. This is a very unique dining experience. Warning: Definitely not the place to go if you are looking for something fancy like a date. It is quite a small restaurant with maybe 5-6 tables. They don't take reservations, so you have the best chance of being seated if you go in off-hours. The restaurant is essentially a kitchen next to tables. There are no paper menus; you just look on the wall. Everything is super, super casual. CASH ONLY, BY THE WAY. I got the black (squid ink) pasta with putenesca sauce (olive-anchovy butter, sauteed mushrooms, onions, peppers). The pasta was quite delicious; you eat it fresh out of the pan in which it was cooked (along with the casual theme of the restaurant). It comes out sizzling hot. The pasta had a nice chew, and the sauce was quite delicious. All of the ingredients came together quite nicely, although I wonder why they charge close to $25 for a dish with no actual seafood or meat inside. It seems a bit not worth it to pay for just the squid ink color. Anyways, the calamari + linguine in red sauce is also good, but the sauce can't compare to the putenesca that comes with the black pasta. It is slightly spicy and the calamari is cooked to tenderness. A very nice experience and a great place for seafood lovers (namely squid, clam, oyster, mussel lovers). read more

The restaurant is TINY, I'm talking about 20 customers max, so it was very cramped and stuffy. When we arrived, there was a table of 3 ahead of us, but we got lucky because the next available table was only for 2 guests, so we were seated within 10 mins. We were provided bread twice, and both times, it was cold and stale. We ordered the mussels Siciliano and the littlenecks Siciliano, lobster fra diavolo, and puttanesca black pasta. We were anticipating fresh seafood with great pasta but were left underwhelmed and unsatisfied. The Siciliano dishes contain garlic, herbs, and onions, but all we tasted was salt. The dish was one dimensional for taste. The lobster fra diavlo was a HUGE portion loaded with so much seafood. The dish was very much Instagram worthy, but I couldn't get myself to post because it was very bland. The sauce tasted like diluted tomatoes. The black pasta had a great texture, and that was it. Again, the dish was bland with a bitter anchovy aftertaste with a hint of tomato. There are condiments such as salt and pepper, parmasean cheese, red pepper flakes, and spicy vinegar at the table, but we couldn't add enough condiments to improve the taste. One thing to note, and this is why I gave the restaurant a 2 star instead one 1, is the freshness and the amount of the seafood you get with each dish. The clams, mussels, shrimps, and lobster were all very fresh and perfectly cooked, but sadly, that's where it ends. This restaurant is definitely a tourist trap, and sadly, we did get trapped. This spot will be one of my favorite restaurants of all time. When you walk in, you feel like you are about to be served dinner in a home. It is not too flashy - it is very comfortable and cute. We started off with the raw oysters and the calamari which were phenomenal. The calamari had a perfect amount of flavor and the oysters were SO fresh. HANDS DOWN the best oysters I have ever had. I wanted to order more but knew we had so much food coming. For entrees, we had the lobster fra diavolo for 1 person, agolio, and monkfish marsala. The appetizers and these 3 dishes were PLENTY for 4 people. The lobster fra diavolo was one of the best dishes I ever had - it had a wonderful mix of seafood and all the flavors were phenomenal. The agolio was also very delicious - it was light and tasty. The monkfish was also phenomenal. The texture of the fish was great and the marsala sauce was delicious. We have eaten at The Daily Catch many times and have had wonderful meals and service. We were in Boston overnight and excitedly went to our favorite Boston restaurant. Today, our server never checked back with us. Another server stopped by and asked how our dinner was. I shared my concern and he sent our server over. By that time, it was too late. I ordered clams with marinara and black pasta. The pasta was perfectly cooked, as were the clams, but the meal had no flavor and was floating in oil. I tilted my plate to drain it. She said that she should have checked on us but was glad my husband's meal was good And walked away. Good thing I wasn't paying as I would not have tipped her, and I'm a good tipper. Great food at The Daily Catch. It is located right across Mike's Pastry. Be ready to wait outside for a table. We waited about 30-40 minutes for a table for 2. There are menus taped to the glass, so you can decide what to eat beforehand (or grab a cannoli across the street while you wait). There are also many large chalk boards inside along the wall with specials. The space was homey. It is easier to get a table here with smaller groups. Their fried calamari was delicious. It is lightly breaded an a pretty generous portion. We also ordered the garlic squid ink pasta (comes with a squid meatball). The taste and texture of the meatball were very good. They have an open kitchen, so you can watch the chef prepare your food. We also ordered small glass bottled Coca-Colas. Great service and delicious food. One of the best spots in Boston. Definitely looking forward to coming back on my next visit to MA. read more

This place is COVID-19 friendly. There are tables outside. If you would like to be inside, it is fine since the tables are separated with elastic curtain. But if it gets colder, it is not comfortable to sit outside. We ordered following: Aglio Olio Taste is special and good. Worth a try here. I wish I lived in Boston just so I could eat here at least once a week! I got the clams white linguine and the aglio olio pasta which were both amazing!! The linguine was light and fresh and complemented the popular squid ink pasta which was intensely flavorful in the best possible way. I've been to both places in North End and by the Wharf. The one in North End is smaller, less tables; therefore, longer wait. It's cash only. The one by the Wharf is larger, more tables; therefore, shorter wait, and it takes credit card. However, for some reasons, I find the clams and linguine dish tastes better in the original one in North End. That dish has given me the inspiration to cook clams and linguine at home. Every time I go back to Boston, I always make plan to have dinner at Daily Catch for Italian Seafood dishes. read more

Incredible north end seafood meal. Worth the wait - and not too bad if you go early (5ish) as a small group! You cannot go wrong with any pasta and seafood. We went in for lunch on Monday 8/2/2021 around 1pm. There were 2 outside tables open when I get there so we were seated right away. But the waiter was very rude at first. We asked if we could order appetizers first, then entree later. The waiter said "no, we are busy now! I need to take all the order!" Mind you, our next table was open at that time. He became nicer and calm after that interaction because I kind killed him with kindness. The food we ordered was very good, calamari was on point with the awesome sauce, vongole pasta I ordered with white sauce had the right amount of garlic and salt.
