What a wonderful way to start off our Boston trip. A friend suggested we go to north end for some good food and good food we certainly did find. In fact, incredible food! Our wait time: There was about a 30 minute wait to be seated but entirely worth the wait. This is a very small restaurant so don't expect to be seated immediately. The kitchen takes up half the space! The food: We ordered Aglio Olio (the squid ink pasta with olive oil, calamari, and garlic) as well as the Monkfish Marsala. Both dishes were delicious and absolutely a must order. The monkfish Marsala was some of the best fish I've ever ordered. My husband and I couldn't get enough of that dish. I highly recommend it. The portion sizes: My husband and I ordered the entree portions of both aforementioned meals, had the bread to start, and had gotten the salad instead of the pasta that comes with the fish. We were both full but didn't have to worry about taking food home as we finished our meals and nearly licked our plates clean then and there. The service: Great! They were friendly, quick, and helpful with our questions about the menu. They even split our salad for us without us having to ask which was great foresight on our servers end. He dominates the orders coming in with ease, cooking 4 plus dishes at a time. This duo is more dynamic than when Cousy & Russell were together. They even check each other from time to time, with real energy and championship courses. Bread and soft butter are a hit. The black squid ink pasta is the most popular dish for a reason. The clams with linguini is the go to entree of my guy that runs the floor. Would definitely check out the Lobster Fra Diovili for those that are coming in with two or more. The Daily Catch was recommended by several friends when I was planning on where to eat for my first visit to Boston! After double-checking Yelp, reviews seem to back up their recommendations. I decided to come here on a Sunday night with my boyfriend, right after we did a full day of exploring Boston on foot so we could really work up our appetites. We got here a little bit after 6PM and ended up waiting ~40-45 minutes for a table. Not the longest I've waited for food so I consider that time a success. Definitely easier when you're only a couple of people! There were groups of 4-6 people that were passed up for awhile until enough tables open up. We got seated at the little corner table in front of window, which was private enough to talk without being interrupted by other patrons. It also offered the outside world a view of exactly what was being served to us! For the FOOD, we ordered: FRIED CALAMARI -- got the small plate to start. Unlike other reviewers, I actually enjoyed the lightly breaded version they make here! It offers the chance for the squid to really shine. They perfectly fried the squid and had enough tenderness without being rubbery. It was good dipped in the marinara sauce, or just own its own with a dash of Tobasaco. SICILIAN STYLE MUSSELS -- I was so excited when I saw our waitress bring us a bowl piled high with shells. Both the clams and calimari were extra fresh and paired well with the white butter/olive oil sauce. Great restaurant if you are craving seafood. The waitstaff is very attentive and friendly. I would recommend reservations so you are placed in outdoor seating versus indoors. The indoor area is not air conditioned. Drinks are super tasty. Their sangria is not too sweet and tastes very fresh. My favorite is the black sugar one. It is fruity and only lightly sweet. Apps wise I would recommend the calamari or the octopus. The octopus was a bit salty so it definitely needs to be eaten with bread. For main courses, the lobster social for two is really good but takes a lot of effort to crack the shells. I though the sauce was excellent and amount of seafood abundant. We upgraded to their home made black pasta instead of linguini and it was just amazing. It says it's for two but it's enough for three especially if you get an appetizer. I've been to Boston for work a couple of times for work and come every time! It is my favorite seafood/Italian place in town. It is very small with probably 4-5 tables, and you have to wait outside, so it can be brutal in the winter, but people still do it! The trick is to go during the week, you really shouldn't wait for too long. This time I went with my bf on Wednesday around 8:30, and only really waited about 10mins. We ordered the squid ink pasta Aglio Olio and the lobster fra diavolo, both full portions. The black pasta came out first and we devoured it, it was the one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. I could smell the garlic as our server was walking towards us, the flavors was so simple yet satisfying. The pasta was cooked in olive oil, but it didn't feel heavy at all. Came here on a Sunday at 3pm and we still waited for ~20 minutes, which was not bad according to other reviews. I feel like if you really don't want to wait for long hours, you should come on weekdays or weekends at wired hours. We got super lucky this time because after we had been waiting for 15 minutes, the server came out and said we need to inform anyone came later that they would stop seating and "reopened" around 4, because the chef needed to take a rest. This is a very small restaurant where there are one long table and two small tables that fit two people, which also means, you need to share the table with people you don't know at a very close proximity. We ordered the calamari platter and an appetizer size of aglio olio black pasta (it just looked like an entree portion to me lol). With another four pieces of bread, these were enough for us two girls who had their lunch/early dinner at 3:30 pm. If you don't know which appetizer to order or want to try a variety of calamari dishes, this is the one you should go for. The fried calamari was very crunchy and chewy. I loved the sauce and use it as the dipping sauce for the fries, but the texture of the meatball was grainy and not as chewy as other types of meat balls. Fried fish fillet and the fries were average: not good, not bad. The best of all was the calamari salad. I had it in other Italian restaurant at north end before, and this one was much better. The calamari was super fresh, tender and well seasoned. I found myself not a fan of olive, but for some magic for this salad I could taste the olive flavor from the salad seasonings, and I liked it! The aglio olio black pasta received a mixed opinion from we two. For me it was too bland, but for my friend she said the saltiness level was just on point. Luckily they have salt and pepper on the table. So after I added a little bit salt to the pasta, it became insanely delicious. The pasta itself was freshly made and very chewy. The grounded calamari had a strong garlic flavor and went very well with the pasta. This is definitely a dish that you should try. One advantage of sitting in proximity with other people is that you could learn what other people ordered. The two people sitting next to us ordered the sicilian style mussels. This place recently reopened but realistically they should have stayed closed, indefinitely. The owner is extremely unprofessional and does not deserve to be running any kind of business. Four of us made a reservation here, when we came we were seated at a tiny table surrounded by plastic curtain on each side to supposedly prevent COVID from spreading (even though the restaurant wasn't allowed to have more than 1 table open at a time anyway by the city). Our wine and water was also served in plastic cups, also supposedly due to COVID (but more likely to minimize work for their staff). We were aware of the 90 minute limit, but they tried to kick us out within an hour. What made it even more unpleasant was that the waitress notified us that we have 10 minutes to leave while placing the 2nd bottle of wine we ordered at the table. Had she mentioned this ahead of time, we wouldn't have ordered it. Another thing they neglected to mention until they placed the 2nd bottle of wine on the table was that this place was cash only, despite a typical meal costing $50+. There is only one reason for a restaurant with average customer paying several hundred dollars to only take cash: tax evasion. We spent the last 10 minutes running to the ATM, paid close to $400 for the meal, and when we asked to pack the leftovers the owner (or chef, not sure) became rude and confrontational (I guess we were inconveniencing his plan to go home by 9pm). My friend and I told him that such treatment of customers, as well as not notifying us that the place is cash-only when we made the reservation, or at least sat down at the table, was unethical. He exploded in anger, insulted us and our wifes and then told us to get out. The guy has delusions of grandeur and speaks to everyone like he's doing them a favor. The food may have been ok, but the owner's treatment of customers was disgusting and ruined our entire night. Do yourself a favor and avoid this shithole. Why would you pay $400 for overpriced pasta while sipping wine out of plastic cups with your table surrounded by a shower curtain where the owner rushes you out while you're eating, treats you like a second-class citizen, and insults you on your way out? read more

I got the aglio olio black pasta which is something new to me. I never had squid ink pasta before but I liked it, it has a slight bitterness but it goes well with the ground squid. The likelihood of being caught in the video feed of an animated food-blogger or at the very least waiting in a long line are particularly high during the summer. If you however find yourself here when it's not super busy, the grub is more than worth it. The menu is heavily squid centric. DC is one of few restaurants I've come across in Boston which offers calamari baked or grilled. The freshly battered fried version is still the best in my opinion with the aglio olio (ground calamari with squid ink linguine) being the other excellent item. We got a table fairly quickly on a fall Sunday. Soon after the line started forming. We ordered the clams, fried calamari, lobster fra diavolo and aglio olio. Wow the pastas left us speechless. The squid ink was so fresh and the small pieces of fried beef added some great texture. The fra diavolo has some lump shrimp mussels and a lobster. I'm usually not amazed by pasta sauce, but their spicy as you like house made tomato sauce was our favorite. Pastas are yummy, service is quick and the staff is great. Its a small location so don't expect anything fancy. Dining is outside and the bathroom is cramped. This is a cash only establishment. If you plan to visit Boston this is a must dine in restaurant if you want authentic Italian. read more

I came on a chilly early spring afternoon in April - the chilly winter wind that Boston is known for stung like frantic bees. My friend invited me since I was checking out grad school in Boston and we just so happened to be in the same city at the same time (what are the chances?). The outdoor seating was really quite nice - these transparent mini houses that shook and rattled in the wind - but hey, it's an experience. I ordered some noodley pasta with shrimp and I believe white wine sauce. It was fantastic - they brought it out fresh from the stove/oven(?) And it lay before me hot and piping in the chilly winter weather. The taste was rich and savory and buttery-y, the shrimp fresh and steamy. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while with the famous line out front. Finally got my chance when the line was relatively short. The ambience is interesting. About 20 seats and everyone squished together inside as best as they can be. The place is tiny with the open kitchen practically on top of you. Expect to sit at a table with other people. This all probably adds to the charm, I guess. We were lucky enough to get one of the window seats which probably elevated the experience. The food was definitely really good (would recommend the white sauce over the red), however, it was not mind-blowing enough to stand in line for anything over twenty minutes in my opinion. It's an amazing and refreshing small hole in the wall. You get to see the chef cook right in front of you. My part and I did wait in a line, but we didn't have to wait too long. If you're expecting a wine glass fine-dining experience, this is not for you. They give you plastic cups for your wine. I ordered clams + linguini with red sauce. To be honest, their red sauce was a little bland...BUT, their squid ink pasta was amazing! Definitely a place that I would visit again. read more
