We went here on Sunday and it was somewhat busy but we made a reservation so got seated right away. We had a nice of the bridge and water. Service was excellent and our server was helpful and kind. I ordered the Branzino. It was good but would have been better if it had a little more sauce; I ordered it with the garlic and butter sauce. My friend ordered the ribeye which was served with mashed potatoes and spinach. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and the mashed potatoes were so tasty; I'll definitely order this or the prime rib next time. The Red snapper was the special of the day so we ordered it. It was covered in panko and fried so it didn't have amazing flavor but it was still good. I'll definitely be back to try more more the menu. read more

It was my friends birthday and he wanted to celebrate it here with us. I have never been here before, nor been to the town of crocket, so I was looking forward to eating here. I'm not a huge fan of fish, but wanted to give it a try. We had a reservation, so seating was rather simple for us. Was a bit busy, but we did get seated right away. Epi Bread: This is their house bread. Not a bad food to start with and you get about four servings for the order. Clam Chowder: A fair amount of clams, potatoes and onions were in the soup. I really liked this and enjoyed the creamy texture. It was not too salty either. Sizzling Mussels and Shrimp: I do not like seafood too much, but I did give it a try. My first time having mussel and I will say it was rather delicious and steamy. The shrimp was good, though you did have to deskin it. Still, this appetizer was nice to share. Fishwich Sandwich: I was unsure what I wanted to order, so I ended up with the fish sandwich. I will say the fish was super crispy and the fish itself was flaky. They give you a big chunk of fish and they do not drench it in any tartar sauce. The lettuce and jalapeños were refreshing to eat with the fish. This was a rather complete meal for what you get with the crispy fries. Seafood Stew: There is a more complete name, but I cannot recall it. I didn't try this, but my friend ordered it. I did try a piece of bread and dipped it in the stew, and it was a bit on the salty side for me. Overall, I had a great experience going for my friends birthday here. I wanted to love this restaurant so bad. I'm a huge seafood lover and I've heard nothing but good things for years about The Dead Fish. I have nothing bad to say about the staff, they were a positive experience. It's simple, the food did not meet my expectations. I ordered mussels and crab with a side of mashed potatoes. My husband ordered the prime rib. He said the prime rib was okay, nothing special. He wasn't a huge fan of the mashed potatoes and hardly touched the huge portion of creamed spinach (did not look or smell appetizing). I personally loved the mashed potatoes, it had zucchini in it as well which I thought was unique. The idea of the seafood coming out on a sizzling platter was cool. It keeps the food nice and hot and makes it feel freshly cooked. However, it was the downfall of the meal. Yes it gave it a nice smoky/barbecue type flavor but it dried everything out. The mussels especially. Half of them were a terrible chalky texture because the heat of the skillet had removed every ounce of moisture. We learned quickly that I guess we prefer mussels in a broth. The crab shell was similarly very dried out from the grill which made it so when you cracked them, the shell would shatter into little pieces and get into the meat. It was just not for me. It was our anniversary and we did put that in our reservation so they brought out a candle and complimentary dessert which was very kind. It was a mousse like cake that had no flavor. We at about half of it just to be respectful but did not enjoy a single bite. If Crockett wasn't an hour drive from where we live I would absolutely give the restaurant another shot. I'm afraid that maybe we just ordered the wrong items and there's sure to be something we enjoy more. However, I don't see myself going that far to take a chance on a place that had such an underwhelming first impression. read more

2/15/2025 Sunday We came in as a party of 9. Made reservations at 3:30 pm to take my family out. Parking wasn't too bad. There was quite a lot of people there. Food was delicious. We ordered 2 beet salad (which is our favorite), the crab fest for four or more, garlic noodles added shrimp, calamari, cheesy bread, the dead burger, crabwich, Fettuccine Alfredo, Sea Bass, and 2 orders Branzino. The crabwich was underwhelming. Not enough crab and too much onion. The potatoes in the hot skillet for the Sea Bass and Branzino were all burnt but the fish was delicious. The Fettuccine Alfredo was not good as it used to be. The Garlic noodles added shrimp was good but too much sauce. The crab fest was delicious no complaints! The cheesy bread and the calamari was yummy! But the service was disappointing. Our server (forgot her name) never came back to check on us to see how is our food, if we needed anything (which we did need another little light for our table my MIL doesn't like how it is dark on her side and she couldn't see. We actually told another waiter and both said they will bring one but never did), etc. We had to flag down another waiter for refills. Let's just say customer service was not great. The food was great, but the dishes were not washed/rinsed well. Every glass we had smelled very strongly of bleach or detergent. They were slammed and should still take the time to make sure the dishes are properly washed. We asked for a new glass and it came with food residue stuck on it and still smelled like bleach. A classic Bay Area spot with good seafood and prime rib, and even better service and waterfront views. Some dishes could use tweaking, but overall a nice experience. We went the day after Valentines to avoid any crowds, and had zero wait at 5 PM. We asked to sit by the window to enjoy the view of the water, and they were very accommodating. Our server (whose name escapes us) was very helpful and efficient. We saw him squatting to table-height to talk to the older ladies next to us, which struck us as really kind. We started with the epi bread and the small size calamari appetizer. The epi bread was warm and delicious, and the calamari was tender and nicely coated in batter. The small size is also exactly right for 2 people. We thought the peppers and fried onion bits were a great addition, coupled with their tasty, horseradish-laden cocktail sauce. For entrees, my boyfriend chose the prime rib and I chose the crab angel hair lasagna. The prime rib comes in several sizes: the "lite cut" is 6 oz., the "regular cut" is 12 oz., the "large cut" is 20 oz, and I forget the size of "the slab." It comes with Yukon gold mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, but these can be subbed out. I was intrigued by what a crab angel hair lasagna could even be, given that those are completely different pasta shapes. It's actually just an angel hair pasta bake, only vaguely the shape and size of a lasagna slice. It came out on an oven-hot dish. I was bummed to see the sauce had separated by the time it came out, which you can see in the photos. As far as flavors, it was very rich and cheesy, but could have used some brightness or contrast to highlight the crab and prevent the dish from tasting too heavy. Seeing the oil pool on the dish from the separated sauce didn't help. The crab itself was nice, if a little sparse, but it was relegated to the top and drowned in the cheese sauce. I'd pass on this. I tried some of the boyfriend's prime rib and that was excellent, perfectly cooked and very tender. We'd highly recommend that one. All in all, the fun decor and stellar service makes me want to come back, but for different entrees. read more

We're in San Francisco for a couple of days trying to visit as many restaurants as possible while we're here. Uncle Gary picked us up from the airport yesterday, gave us a little tour of the city, stopped at a few scenic spots for pictures, and when lunchtime came around he brought us to Dead Fish. My husband and I both work in the culinary industry, so we're always excited to try new places. We started with the calamari and the crab spinach dip. Unfortunately, neither one was a hit. The calamari came out with no serving spoon, so sharing it turned into a bit of a free-for-all situation. Flavor-wise it didn't really stand out either. The crab spinach dip also fell flat and honestly wasn't worth ordering. For entrées, my husband ordered the branzino which unfortunately lived up to the restaurant's name -- dry and lacking flavor. I had the seafood skillet with shrimp and mussels, which also leaned heavily toward the dry side. Uncle Gary and Cecile ordered the crab enchiladas and, judging by the quiet table, those didn't impress either. Service was also a bit of an adventure. The server took everyone's order except Uncle Gary's and then just walked away like his order was optional. When the entrées arrived, our appetizer plates were still on the table, so we had to shuffle things around to make space. They also took our silverware and never replaced it... which was an interesting move considering we still had food to eat. Overall it was okay, but definitely not somewhere we would go back to. Ambiance is amazing - gorgeous bay view, vinyl booths, nautical decor, the signature neon sign - it's a vibe. The menu is extensive and family faves include the crab enchiladas - majorly cheesy, swimming in sauce, ample portions - and the crab Louie - pricey but HUGE and filled with top shelf toppings like avocado and beets and a decent portion of crab. The BEST roasted crab I've ever had. I order double garlic crab every time I go. The drinks are delicious. I can't stand cooked spinach but I always ask for a bite of the cooked spinach off of my date's plate. There's something flavorful and yummy about the way they cook their spinach. Had the garlic noodles with chicken, I was recommended to this place to try some real flavorful garlic noodles but, it actually lacked a ton of flavor like zero, only had a lot of cheese. Came out didn't smell a hint of garlic just cheese tried it and it was just cheese flavor and a bit bland. I don't know whats happened here but, they need to up their quality control I had to add two spoon full of garlic to have it taste like a proper garlic noodles. That just made it more tolerable. Granted it was full house but, it tastes like all the other tasteless garlic noodles I've had at most restaurants. I dont recommend the garlic noodles here. read more

Walking into the dead fish feels like a restaurant out of a movie. Beautifully set right by the carquinez bridge. Inside is warm and almost always packed. I highly recommend the skillets - served with delicious butter and some Epi bread. Cioppino is a bit on the tomato side, almost like a sauce instead of a broth. We came here to celebrate my son's graduation. To begin server seemed a bit nervous. We placed our orders and food came out instead of garlic noodles that my husband ordered they brought out garlic bread. I called the waitress over and she acknowledged that she had made a mistake and she put in the correct order. I ordered clam chowder which I was unable to eat because there was so much sand in it. I let let the waitress know and she offered dessert I did not want any but my son and husband did. No deduction for my meal even though I only took 5 bites 3 of which I spit out due to sand. Tonight, for the first time in a long time I had amazing service and food at the Dead Fish. When I asked for a glass of Cabernet, Erin didn't just ask me to pick one based on her experience or recommendation (as has been my past experience at the dead fish) she brought me two different ones to taste and let me pick. The bruschetta came out right away, it was warm and delicious. She asked if we wanted our salad with our crab or before, timing it all perfectly. The crab came out hot, followed within minutes with hot garlic butter (previous we have had to ask the server and wait a prolonged period of time, including asking for the server from other staff). Shazam came by the table and was so kinda and interested in ensuring we had the best experience! I can't say enough about Erin and Shazam! Today's service was outstanding and food was delicious and the crab is even better than before! Our server went above and beyond. My kids both wanted prime rib so we decided to order one for them to split. We ordered the regular cut and opted for double fries instead of the mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. The prime rib was cooked a little more well done and we requested for medium. Our server sent it back and came back with some extra fries for the kids to snack on since everyone's food was already out. We haven't ordered crab over here in quite some time but decided to today and we were really happy we did! We noticed the sauce is a little different from what we were used to but in GOOD way! So much more flavorful and different from the usual garlic butter crab you would get anywhere else. Highly recommend the crab! We also had the soft shell crab sandwich for the first time and it was so yummy!!! We even asked if it's under new ownership but they just updated the menu with a few additional items! Our server brought out a complimentary slice of cake to go with our espresso which I thought was a really nice touch. Overall we were happy with the service, food, and ambiance. I came here yesterday from my birthday lunch/ early dinner. I have to say... I'm sad to report.... It's kind of gone downhill here. It just doesn't feel like you get your moneys worth here anymore.. The service was good and your food came up properly but in this day of wanting to get your moneys worth and everything being so expensive, I just don't know if I would come back here again sadly because this used to be my go to place to get the roasted crab! I used to love their roasted crab and don't get me wrong. It's not that it's wasn't good but I remember it being a lot tastier in days gone by . I got a decent portion of a half an order of the roasted crab for I believe it was $39 that not bad but kind of a letdown as I remember it used to be a lot tastier. We started off with oysters on a half shell and ordered a dozen which was about almost $50 but they were super small. My partner ordered crabcakes and he got these two little tiny medallions for almost $39.99ish. He also ordered the Crab Crustini which was just ok. We also ordered fried calamari which wasn't bad but the portion was a lot smaller for $15.99 for half an order and it was mostly fried onions. We used to get a much fuller order when we ordered Shrimp Cocktails too. It just seemed like everything was way too high in price for the portions you received. We walked out of there spending over $250 including drinks not including tip and we were still kind of hungry... During the daytime there was ample parking which was great, but I don't know that I would go out of my way to come back here again... And maybe I will have to find a new place for yummy crab? We opted to go to The Dead Fish for a nice Christmas dinner. After a brief wait we were lead to our seat in the main dining room. Service was mostly good. My issue is with the food. $3 for a couple of cold, hard rolls is excessive & unnecessary. Either serve warm bread or don't charge for it. On to our meals. My guest ordered fish & chips. I ordered shrimp & chips. She got a huge filet of fish. I got maybe 6 very small shrimp on a platter of fries. I truly believe they were heavily battered baby shrimp, not actual shrimp of any size! Very disappointing given what I paid for them. The difference in our two meals was baffling & a bit shocking. Next year, we'll go somewhere else. read more

I would recommend this restaurant to any large group. The food was delicious and ample. We did the "Let's Do Lunch" menu, but there are other variations to choose from. Food is served family style. I loved the crab enchiladas! They even boxed all our leftovers quickly for us. Many OTHER restaurants I have brought large groups to with pre-arranged menus have delivered slow service and seemed entirely overwhelmed by our presence (even though we had prearranged our arrival for months in advance.) This was NOT the case here- A+ service for a large group!!! The decor gave us many things to remark about and talk about as the walls were covered with famous people's photos and other memorabilia. I've been here about 10 times and even chose to celebrate my birthday here, so this isn't coming from someone who just visited once and had a bad night. We made a reservation for a party of 12. When we arrived, they were busy (which is normal), but we were seated fairly quickly. However, they split our party between two separate tables. When we politely asked the manager if the tables could be pushed together so we could all sit as one group, he responded with an attitude and said, "We don't move tables." So we let it go. Shortly after, the party next to us (around 7-8 people) left, and I noticed staff had moved two tables together for them. That was frustrating, but again, we let it go. The food came out, though my son's meal took noticeably longer than everyone else's. We didn't complain. While eating, I noticed my usual order tasted different. Since I always get the same thing, I know how it normally tastes. My wife agreed it tasted off, and two others in our party felt the same about their meals. We assumed the kitchen was just overwhelmed and didn't say anything. About 30 minutes after we finished eating, one person in our party started feeling sick. Then one of my kids felt sick. Soon after, both had diarrhea. Then I experienced the same thing. By the end of the night, a total of five people in our party had diarrhea and/or vomiting after getting home. We had already paid before mentioning anything to the manager. When we brought it up, he essentially brushed us off. The next day, we called to follow up, and he was again unhelpful and had an attitude. His response over the phone was, "Just so you know, we don't do refunds." We've seen reviews where refunds were issued for far less serious situations than this, which makes the response even more disappointing. We asked to speak to someone above him and eventually reached the owner, who sent us a hostile email and even threatened legal action if we posted about our experience on social media. We didn't want to write this review. We simply wanted the situation handled properly. This could have been resolved very differently with basic customer service and accountability. After multiple people in our party got sick, we absolutely believe a refund was warranted. It's extremely disappointing to see a place we once loved handle a situation like this so poorly. read more

We celebrated my daughter's birthday dinner there and it was fantastic. The waitress was assigned to our group kept it together for us and served us with a smile. We had reservations for 15 people, but ended up with a group of 20. The restaurant accommodated us with a smile. The food was everything, we ordered branzino, rib eye steaks, roasted chicken, clam chowder, oysters, oysters again and garlic crab, and more garlic crab to go. Man oh man, what happened to this place. I left the Bay Area 10 years ago and bragged about this place being the gold standard for crab. When I moved back I was so excited to be able to go back, boy was I in for a surprise. I had heard it fell off in the food but really how bad could it be? So much worse than I expected. The crab came out on a skillet, as said they it would, but sizzling? I think we may have different ideas of what that means. The food had no flavor, was barely warm. The best part of the crab used to be the cartilage and the butter and garlic cooked in there, not any more. I had like 2 bites and it was awful. The couple who happened to be sitting next to me were talking about how bad their food was and how much they used to love the place. Clearly the bartender is used to people not liking their food because she didnt ask if anything was wrong even though I barely touched anything on the plate. Absolutely love the location! A perfect spot for a nice relaxing lunch or dinner. The ambience could not be better. We had lunch today and it was really good. It definitely should be a 5 star experience but there were a few misses. I had the crab sliders and they were very tasty but one slider had almost no crab. Hmm. Also, the fries were absolutely delicious but served cold. My husband had the clam chowder and the smoked salmon louie salad. Both were excellent!! Also the bread and butter are to die for (if you are going to splurge on bread, do it here!!) We also ordered fish and chips to go for my son and it looked amazing!!
