I was craving a sh load of cheap Chinese food from Panda Wok, and hopped in my car and drove over to the other side of Simi for lunch. "I like Panda Wok, because they take credit cards. I'm happy they aren't one of those annoying places that take cash only." I was thinking as I walked into the open front doors of the place. Right into a plethora of hand-written signs that read "CASH ONLY!" I was disconsolate; "Well Poop. Now what do I do for lunch?" I asked myself aloud. I asked the lady if she knew of an ATM nearby, and she told me there was one nearby, and even walked me out the front door into the parking lot, where she gestured to the bank nearby. It was a Citrix Bank. I'm a Bank of America. No way I'm getting slapped a fee by TWO banks to get twenty bucks....again. So I meandered around, looking at my options. I could stick with the Chinese food idea, as there is a Panda Express just a bit into the parking lot. There was a pizza joint next door, and a subway and sushi place on the other side. I decided that Panda, Sushi & Pizza would end up being more costly than I wanted to spend. I didn't really want Subway, so after meandering back and forth for a few minutes, I seriously considered crossing the street to go to the Chevron to buy a soda and get cash back for lunch. Then I saw the sign in front of the doors of this place. "Single Cheeseburger and Fries w/ drink for $8.25" I remembered liking the place when it was in its last form of Howie's, so I figured what the hell, I'd give it a shot. I walked in and a waitress greeted me. She informed me that somebody would be with me momentarily. Instead of piles of Chinese food, cheeseburger and fries. Probably about the same health wise; probably somewhat cheaper if I'd gotten the Chinese food. Oh well. C'est La Vie. Hostess sat me at a table, and asked for my drink. So I busted out the 3DS, and started up a game of Balloon Fight. Four or five phases later, waitress came up and asked for my drink order. Hostess was cleaning a table nearby and I'm pretty sure I head an "Oh yeah..." from her direction. I pointed to the weekday specials, and let her know I'd like the Single Cheeseburger and fries special for 8.25, and an iced tea please. She nodded, and said no problem. I returned to my game of Balloon fight, and got through another few phases before being zapped to death by a stray lightning bolt. At a nearby table, there was a man speaking quite loudly of his most recent hot girlfriend; who used to date Rob Lowe. Then about how he had a big house in 'the famous party city of Cabo'. Presumably the other guys he was talking to were his hangers-on. They all had beers in front of them, one of the guys stood out to me. He was a small Asian man with an apple juice in front of him. A yellow straw poked out of the glass. I think he was the newest hanger-on, as loud rich man seemed to be meeting him for the first time, 'you only have a wife? That's too bad...' Mental note to self:....when I win the lottery and get rich...don't be that guy. That guy is an A-hole. Another guy came by with my burger and fries. I think I had seen him behind the bar earlier. Maybe the bartender? The Manager? He placed my burger before me and asked if I needed anything besides what I had for the fries. He gestured to the mustard & ketchup all ready on the table. The cheeseburger looked decent. The vegetables next to it looked quite fresh and cool. It was a nice presentation. I waited for him to leave before wrecking it and assembling the burger. After construction was complete, I took a big bite. It was pretty good. Not magical, but not bad. I wolfed down the burger as I realized just how soon I had to be back in my cube. As yet another waiter-guy came by, I flagged him down, let him know I was kinda in a hurry, and asked if he could take care of my bill. He took my card and went off to handle it. He came back with the leather fold with my card & receipts. I hurriedly stuffed fries into my mouth, drank a quick gulp or two of iced tea, and took care of the bill. As I looked around and noticed the décor, I noticed that they had taken off all the 'interesting crap on the walls' from when it was Howie's, and replaced it with sports memorabilia and televisions. I dunno, I seem to remember it having more character in it's previous manifestation. It's seems to be 'just another sports bar' now, with a million TVs on the wall. I've seen it before. A co-worker/friend tells me that they've moved from Moorpark, they're in a pretty good spot now, right off the 118 highway. Maybe they'll last. It was okay? Sat at the bar and ordered from the menu which was extensive, filled with burgers sandwiches, salads and more. The staff were very knowledgeable on the extensive options of draft beer, and we enjoyed a couple of skulkens and ipas. Review for the new location in Simi. If The Dugout is to be successful in this location a few things have to change. The lighting in the bar is horrible. No one likes a flashlight pointing in their face and thats just how it feels sitting at the bar trying to see the tv. The overhead lighting over the customers' heads should be turned off completely. Leave the lighting on for the bartender in the middle but the light over the bar has got to go. Also, the bar stools are not comfortable at all. I suggest you get a few regular bar stools (without backs) and see which the customers prefer. Barstools with a back support that straight on are not comfortable. I didn't try the food but it looked good. One more thing, maybe have a section in the back somewhere for people who aren't baseball fanatics. Maybe have something other than baseball on a few of those tvs. Maybe it's the lighting that's killed every other business in this location ... read more

I stopped by The Dugout to watch the Niner game because it was not televised locally. A good friend of mine kept on telling me to check this place out because they have lots of TV's and he said they have great wings. I walked in and ask to be seated in the area that the Niner game would be on. The greeter said that they didn't know what TV the late games would be on. She then tells me that she is sure that a TV near me would have the Niner game on for me. My server was a cool girl. I believe her name is Crystal. She was great and I felt really bad for her because after the morning games were over the guy in charge of changing the TV's took a while to change the channels on the TV's to the late games. It got so bad that everyone in my area was complaining to her and all she could say that she is waiting for the guy to change the channels. Memo to the management. You are a sports bar. People like myself come in to watch the game and to watch it on time. Not 20 minutes later especially when the TV's around me are working just fine and just need to have the channels changed on time. During the 20 mins there was one TV that had the Niner game on but it was on the complete opposite side of the bar. Please have someone who knows what the hell they are doing with the remote. This same person should know the start times and should be all over making sure that the TV's have the right channel at the right time. It also might be a great idea to know what TV's are showing what games beforehand both morning and late games. Also if a game is televised locally why would you put that game on BOTH large big screens? Just my 2 cents.... As for the wings they were excellent. I would go back for those alone. The service aside for the guy that controls the remote was excellent. There was a young kid working there and this kid was better than your average server and he wasn't older than 15. The new location is much bigger and better than the Moorpark location. The only thing stopping me for giving this place 5 stars is aforementioned TV issue. Since my first visit three weeks ago I've returned multiple times. I went to meet some friends to watch The Kings play in the Stanley Cup playoffs. I was extremely happy to find that the dugout was hockey friendly. Almost any bar you go to will always choose NBA playoffs over NHL playoff games or even regular season MLB. They played the Kings game on full audio and on the majority of the numerous tv screens. Since then I've watched almost every Kings post season game at the dugout and tried much of the food, mostly going with the French Dip and an 805. The remodel is also very nice and that's the best that bar has ever looked. I highly recommend to anyone that wants to catch a game or grab a tasty bite. read more

Went here for the Dodgers game when we clinched over Atlanta and the atmosphere was excellent. The waitresses were very attentive, friendly and cheering hard for the home team. The beer selection is decent and I like that they have union jack IPA, the food was decent and my buddy ordered "the shermanator" (see pics) which is a triple cheeseburger, pastramai, fried egg, chili, etc. and he killed it in under 8 minutes. First experience was a 5 star experience without a doubt. I went back a second time this past weekend to watch the 49ers and Cardinals since I don't have Sunday ticket. For whatever reason the service wasn't nearly as good, which is a bummer because I brought a buddy of mine who is a big Cronies fan and I was bragging to him on how great of an experience I had at the dugout and how attentive the staff was when it comes to getting drinks filled and making sure you had everything you needed. This time I ordered an appetizer which was spinach and artichoke dip served with chips. The app was decent but i hate when I order an app and it comes out at the same time (minute and a half before the entree). The waiting staff was super slammed and it seemed like they had a million of things to think about which is probably why they messed up by order and were slow on refills etc. until it died out at about 2:00 pm. Overall I would give my second experience a 2 star. So overall I would give it a 3.5 star rating, I will be back I am sure and I hope I get an experience more like the first time so I can give them a more worthy rating. read more

As the game got closer we reminded the waitress that the tv in front of us should be chargers. She said she would let someone know. We ordered food which came out quick and when delivered we asked for the game again as it was half way through the first quarter. We saw how this going so we ate quick and closed out the tab. We're home just before half time to watch the football game we originally went there to see. Overall bad experience. They didn't put one of three football games on any of the TVs. I was a Sunday regular, during Football Season, at the Dugout when it was in Moorpark. This location is MUCH nicer, larger, better parking... All around, a huge upgrade. Owners are there everyday. And are on top of everything that goes on. It's good to see. Service is great. Attentive. Friendly. Fast. Food is good. Nothing over the top fancy or mind blowing, but it's good none the less. Don't really have a favorite menu item or something I tend to order often. But everything I have tried was good. Cooked nicely. And served quickly. Great place to watch Football. Being this is my first visit to this establishment, I'm always weary of trying new places, especially if they don't seem to possess anything that makes them stand out in the crowd. However, I have to say I have been absolutely blown away by The Dugout and their attention to quality, customer service, and inviting atmosphere. My girlfriend and I arrived right at opening time, 11 AM sharp. The hostess at the door promptly greeted us with a smile and told us the restaurant was ours and to choose wherever we preferred. We seated, given our menus, and immediately greeted by our server. Nolan was the gentleman who took care of us, and did an absolute superb job. He even went out of his way to ask his manager a question regarding a specific beef I was looking for, and gave me some info on their New Tap Tuesday events and where I could check to see when certain beer reps come by for their tap takeover nights. My chili cheese dog was amazing, made with real chili and cheese, not that canned stuff you get at the market. The ranch is definitely made well, lacking the typical store taste you find in the bottled varieties. Well cooked food served promptly still steaming on the plate! My evaluation of The Dugout is a solid 5 stars for being a stand up restaurant with courteous, friendly employees, and having fresh food that hits the spot without ANY hesitation. Looking at the yelp reviews for this place we're good so decided to try it with a friend. First lots of Tv's and the place looks nice. The customer service was good. Now not the good part. I ordered a cheese burger and I told the waitress I wanted the fries extra well done, food came out and fries were not well done at all so she took my whole order back which she could of left the burger so meal comes back and burger well done not fries again. I told her about it and instead of correcting the problem so said I will give you free drinks. Well that's nice but doesn't fix the problem. This place is new too. The food here is delicious! I've had their nachos, boneless wings, and sliders. It was all so well cooked. The drinks need some refining, they taste strange, like they haven't quite figured out what to put in them. I work around the corner from here, so happy hours are a must. I have been here a few times and it's ok. I've enjoyed it more with out my kids, as it seems more of a bar than a family restaurant, however it does have a kid menu. Food is yummy, appetizers were best. I enjoyed the wings, however I was trying to ask for a combination of mixed hot and bbq sauce and I am not sure waitress or the cooks understood what I was asking for so instead they brought me hot wings with a side off bbq sauce. Initially, I had given it a two star, but they've redeemed themselves tremendously! Our first experience wasn't good, but I always give a place another try just on case we came on an off day. The last two times we've been here the food and service were great. The single cheeseburger, dare I say, gave In N Out a run for their money. Had a delicious burger here today called the Fiery Angus. It had a whole fresh jalepeno on it as well as spicy chipolte mayo. It was cooked to perfection and had a great taste. Only downside was it was a little greasier than I would have liked. Service at the bar was good.
