    French Toast Breakfast
    Cole D.

This place is way too expensive. I got basic French toast for $11 and I'm glad I did. The place just doesn't look that amazing and it's very basic easy simple cheap breakfast food. I'm fine with easy breakfast food, but you can't be charging $20 for it. Staff was really nice to celebrate my friend and bring him birthday cake. And they sang to him. I appreciated that. Very friendly service and the owner came and checked up on us a couple times. Again, service was really good because they kept filling up our waters.

This is a solid neighborhood diner in the area. Lots of locals frequent this place including myself. My main reason to go to a diner is for breakfast, so that's mostly what I've had there. Everything is done well and quick. Pancakes are fluffy. Service is friendly and efficient. Managers are very nice. A good option for diner grub in the area.

Ehh... no frills type of spot. Service was cool friendly staff. The food is just ok. Prices are decent though. I had a pastrami wrap and fries. My brother ordered grilled chicken and mash potatoes.

Of course I had to come here on my NY trip. It's tradition. I have been coming here for over 10 years with my dad. So I brought my best friend with me on this trip and she loved it so much we went twice on this trip so far. I got a margarita, my usual chicken soup. I tried a Caesar salad with grilled shrimp! It was really flavorful and came with tomatoes.

This diner was mediocre and it is open 24 hours a day. The burger tasted good and the bacon was well done as we requested. The French fries were skinny shoe sting fries and just okay (plus they got cold very fast). The grilled chicken caesar salad wrap was also okay, "nothing to write home about" because the dressing was oily and there was no Parmesan cheese and no croutons that usually make them taste a lot better. The onion rings were good and crispy. Everything pictured for $53 seems like a pretty steep price for average food.

I would give 0 if I could. There was hair in my food and I still have it a chance but I got a stomach ache after & had to pay extra. Second time dinning here. First time drunk and hungry. Second time sober and hungry and with a foot injury and cane and this is the time I got a stomach ache after Food 0/5 My food had hair The eggs Benedict Florentine are not poached but the egg is broken and yolk runs outside cooked The server claimed Florentine came with feta albeit the menu does not say it and it did NOT The eggs Benedict Lox not only cooked but over cooked the lox (yes, it's possible) The potatoes or diner fries as they are called are soggy instead of crispy and have 0 flavor The omelette came with toast. Toast was the best food item Service 0/5 Server was good with his words and apologized about the hair BUT his actions were another thing I asked server replaced Benedict Florentine w/ Benedict Lox so I can better see hair because the spinach in the Florentine is dark What I did not expect: the server asked for me to pick anything to replace the Florentine ($18.95) so he could apologize for the hair and I chose Lox ($19.95) and he charged me for the $1 difference We did NOT expect a discount but I did NOT know I had to pay someone to make up for a mistake they committed. I am NOT talking about the server (only) but the restaurant itself plus kitchen staff and lack of hair caps Price 0/5 It's pricey for a diner especially for one with hair in your food. We paid $40 for 2 entrees before tip. Ambiance 0/5 It's a typical diner but not the Manhattan trendy way, but the local mom and pop shop that smells like bleach and people hand write orders on the lined notepad that has a "total" field Verdict: I rather vomit when completely drunk AND walk 6 streets down when sober and hungry even with a foot injury and cane than eat here a 3rd time My brother still tipped 20%

24 hour diner just round the corner from where I'm staying makes it a very convenient location when one is hungry in the middle of the night. We came over for breakfast food as recommended by my friend. Stick with the breakfast stuff. They do it better than the other food. I had the corned beef hash and eggs. It came with toast and potatoes. I like the corned beef here, very tasty. Service was a bit lacking when we were there. The server forgot my friend's order and we had to remind them. Payment is at the cashier near the front.

Came here for dinner and it was actually kind of packed ! The vibe is very old school diner. Service was good. TEX MEX QUESADILLA The hybrid I needed between breakfast food and cheesy quesadilla I was looking for. Diner food is diner food but this just hit the spot for me. I think it could have used hot sauce but the jalapeños scattered in the quesadilla itself are a very nice touch and take this from basic to quite tasty. Would def come back here again when in the mood for diner food.

This is where all their drinks belong.

First time ordering to go here - big mistake! The old lady at the front, flashing her aggressively red nails, took my order like she was running a Michelin-starred restaurant--when in reality, she's just a cashier with an attitude. Food? Eh, it's edible. But if you value your health, do not drink anything here. I asked for hot tea. She asked what kind, rattling off a lineup of what were clearly bargain-bin teas from supermarket boxes. I said, "Never mind." That should've been the end of it. But no--she suddenly discovered a new level of patience and repeated the flavors like I didn't understand English. Fine, I said, "Just hot water." I was fully prepared to pay for it, but then she hit me with, "No, that need to pay. That's $1.50." The audacity. $1.50. For water. And not just any water--served in the absolute tiniest coffee cup possible. I asked for a bigger cup, and suddenly, it turned into a full-blown soap opera--cue the dramatic side-eye exchange between her and another employee. Truly next-level pettiness and peak low-class behavior. I have no issue paying for water. But It tasted exactly like gym pool water. Guaranteed chlorine overdose. So, for anyone planning to eat here--if you don't have a death wish, DO NOT DRINK ANYTHING THERE! The moment they add a tea bag or coffee, you won't even realize you're sipping on chemical soup. Stay safe!

Everything was quick, no waiting. Food was very good. I had the chopped salad with salmon, my wife had the grilled cheese with tomato bisque. Everything was pretty much perfect. Where we sat, we could see the open kitchen and the open fire oven. My cousin's kids were really interested in it. It got a little noisy when more parties were sat, but we could still mostly hear each other. Plus the host took a pic of all of us and the storefront when I asked. Not everywhere will do that. Only negative I could say is that it was a bit pricey, but I figured that's New York City pricing, as it was $30 for my salad plus salmon, which is only like $18-20 here in Maryland. But overall, still an A+.

Only 3 stars or so for the food. It was ok, but didn't knock my socks off. I mean, it really was fine, but not the wow I'd been led to expect. And then less than 2 stars for the ambiance, which makes me sad. The decor was fine up to a point. Lovely bar stools. But the corner we sat in? None of the photos on the walls around us were straightened or hung equally. It was a bit disturbing (ie not relaxing) and confusing to the eye. And the music was this weird mash up of disco and 70s harder rock. Weird, as it is supposed to be a higher end dining experience. Hm. I would hire the server, but would look someplace else to spend my money on another meal in the area.

For my entree, I ordered the vodka rigatoni and a side of buttered broccoli. The vodka rigatoni was really good - liked the flavor and a decent size of pasta. The broccoli was really good for some reason to me. Also tried the truffle mac and cheese which was incredibly rich and tasted great. As a dessert, we had the chocolate pie which was dense, rich, and topped with a huge dollop of whipped topping. I really liked the atmosphere of the place, loud roaring 20s style with jazz playing. Plus I kept finding myself checking out the mural on the wall. Try it for yourself - but worth the fight to get a table.

It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. I would return to Friedman's when I'm in the Herald Square area, or check out one of their other locations in the city.

Ivan shared his recommendations with us and we had some good conversation. We ordered a pasta dish with shrimp and Brussels salad as well. All very tasty. A couple of nights later we went back and had the rigatoni with red sauce which was phenomenal and our favorite and the Toscana salad, also great. It was not too oily either, if anything it could have had a touch more, but again this let the tomatoes come through. The pork and beef. meatballs are dense and served in a thickened tomato sauce. The bread that comes with it is nice for finishing that gorgeous sauce which does have a sprinkling of parm. The broccolini had a a touch of garlic and served with a lemon.
