The food was great but the service was the worst I have experienced in a LONG time. The waitresses were rude and unfriendly. We had to wait for silverware to be washed after our food was delivered. We asked twice for paper towels and ended up having to go into the bar area ourselves to get them. Drinks were never refilled. I don't know how this place was rated 4 1/2 stars. We had the worst service ever it took us almost an hour to get our food. We had some very hungry kids and couldn't even get an appetizer which finally came after we got our main course. So locals all know that Pirate's Cove has the best bushwhacker... WRONG! This place has by far the absolute best bushwhacker (for all you tourists it's the best alcoholic chocolate shake concoction with a 151 floater). Plus they make theirs from scratch! The food is good. I say the shrimp platter was good but not the best I've ever had. My husband got the sausage po boy which was awesome. But by far my favorite was the jambalaya! It was the special of the day so it might not always be available but it really was the best part of the meal; second to the bushwhacker of course! read more

Stopped by because it was near our condo. The flounder was terrific!! The service a little slower because it was busy but the staff was really pleasant and we made a great connection. The Bushwacher lives up to it's name. The resident visitor "Rowdy" was a great guy who is worth spending time with. read more

This place is excellent!!! The shrimp- gulf shrimp- baby lobsters- yum yum. And you want a salad? Get the Cesar with shrimp!!! We've come back twice- all the food has been really fresh, tasty, and prepared well. The staff are absolutely wonderful! AND Live music on Fridays and Saturdays. read more

The shrimp poboy earned this place the only stars I give, it was huge and it was good but it was dry as a popcorn fart. My wife ordered crab legs which were wayyyy overpriced for the portion she received, the piece of corn was dry and cold, and new potato (yes 1 potato) that came with it was dry and had bad spots all over it. As far as the atmosphere, it was dark and hotter than the beach in the middle of July. Seemed way under staffed for Labor Day weekend. I will not be back. read more

We stopped in based on the five-star​ reviews, however​ not sure when these individuals​ actually visited this location. We were quickly seated upstairs, however,​ everything​ slowed down after that. We got our drink​s quickly and ordered our meals. The order took more than 40 min to get our food. It would have been worth the wait if the food was good. I ordered the fish and it seemed to be frozen and had no taste. All of the food had no flavor and was not fresh​. I would not recommend this place for a meal. read more

Hands down the Roast Beef Po'Boy is the best thing on the menu! We also had the shrimp Po'Boy and it was your standard shrimp Po'Boy, but the bread it was on was amazing! This dive is the best kept secret at Orange Beach. When we first discovered the Poon, we went to be roasted by bartender, Ryan, who poured great, reasonably priced drinks. After Ryan left, we discovered bartender, Shirley. I'm only giving Shirley 5 stars because 6 is not an option. :-) Her quick wit and great pours keeps us coming back time and time again. And oh, the food is phenomenal. Try the homemade chips or the roast beef po-boy! Visit the oyster bar downstairs, or the regular bar upstairs. But be warned! Shirley will roast you and you'll grin and say may I have another Ma'm! read more

Decent and I don't see how this place gets so much hype. We got all sorts of po boys that were fair and oysters that were fine. We did enjoy the drinks! They weren't skimpy with the alcohol. The alcohol tempted me to give this place 3 stars... But.... The service was a little less than okay. We arranged our seating on our own, then we were asked to move even further away from the kitchen. So, the six adults and three babies all shuffled our tables ourselves. Came out here on a recommendation and accidentally came to the wrong Flying Harpoon - Little did I know there are two locations (Orange Beach and Gulf Shores). Nonetheless, same food! I love how welcoming the staff is. We opted to sit at the bar, which gave us the chance to chat with the bartender. She was so fun (got a welcome shot for the holiday weekend!) and made great recommendations for things to do more on the locals side of things. I had the house salad with blackened shrimp and the shrimp was PERFECTION. Recommended to try the buffalo shrimp appetizer and the buffalo shrimp po boy. They are open until 1AM (hint to maybe avoid some late-night Waffle House). Would have been nice to have seating with a view like the one on the bayou in Gulf Shores, but the front of the restaurant has nice balcony seating in the front. Will be back! read more

We were there every day during our 6 day stay. Shrimp and flounder poboys were delicious. And we loved the homemade chips a lot. We had read and heard good reviews of the food at this location of the Flying Harpoon, and we were really looking forward to trying their appetizers and po'boys with a couple beers on their back patio. Sadly, their food did not live up to the hype. Oyster fritters and crab & crawfish cakes were burned and lacked much identifiable seafood, either in flavor or in texture. Po'boys are supposed to be their specialty, but the bread was not a traditional New Orleans sandwich loaf, and the fillings were bland. There was much more bread than filling, making the two po'boys dry. Service was slow, although it wasn't crowded, and servers were more engaged in personal conversations among themselves than with customers. Our server neither noticed nor commented on the food we left uneaten, and she did not ask whether we were happy with our orders. We will not go back. read more

If I could give this place more stars I would. My significant other and I were down in Orange Beach for a week-long vacation when we discovered the Flying Harpoon. It wasn't too hard to find because it was right across the road from where we were staying. (The hard part was having to play Frogger with the cars to get there.) The moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with smiling faces and wonderful hospitality. I was immediately drawn to the sausage pizza while my boyfriend jumped on the crab cakes. I'm not a huge fan of crab to begin with, but the second I tasted those crab cakes, my boyfriend had to pull his plate away from me so I wouldn't devour them, leaving him hungry. The pizza was also delicious, as were the fresh chips. And that was just our first visit that week. The second time, we went in late Thursday night with a group of friends for drinks and food. Ronnie was our host. Two of my friends ordered the crab cakes (and loved them), but I opted for a change-up. I took a chance and got myself some of their sliders. Oh man, there is no going back from those. Just an explosion of delicious meat, bread, cheese and jalapenos. With such spectacular food, I was surprised to see the place practically empty. Ronnie also gave us some great recommendations of other restaurants in the area. The third and final visit of our week to the Flying Harpoon was nothing short of exceptional. We brought even more friends there for lunch and everyone loved it. If they ever open a third location, I hope it's out here in CA where I live. I'd eat there every day. PS I was also pretty psyched that there is a real alligator living in the pond behind the restaurant. The coolest common wildlife we get in CA are squirrels, deer and raccoons, so being 50 feet from a real gator's home blew my mind quite a bit. read more

To quote every famous submarine movie, ever, Dive... Dive... Dive. Yep, My kind of place. Not much to look at on the inside, This place exudes the ambiance of your favorite drinking hole. But the drinks are fresh and delicious and the food there was wonderful. I think I had the best Shrimp and Oyster Po Boy I have had ever. The shrimp were lightly breaded just like i like and they Oysters were creamy, briny and flavorful. The place was packed so our server was constantly hopping. He was a really friendly guy and we enjoyed the banter with him. The only drawbacks were they were just a bit pricey but the food was worth it. And we did have a pretty significant wait, that was tempered by how good natured and friendly the staff were. Will we go back the next time we are in Orange beach? You bet! read more
