The business owner explaining he washes his hands after he already contaminates the batter
    Christopher O.

During food preparation, the individual did not wash his hands before handling customer food. He was observed placing his bare hands directly into batter and other food items without washing his hands beforehand. Handwashing only appeared to occur after food contact had already taken place, rather than before preparation began. This practice raises concerns about basic food safety and hygiene standards, as proper handwashing was not consistently performed prior to handling food intended for customers this is a direct response from the owner I am going to report you to the health department

This is the best fish and chips in Portland Oregon. The owner/operator is a no nonsense gentleman that works so hard, can be a little curt but cooks the most tender and crunchy fish this side of Scotland. We are beyond pleased he moved out of Portland and is now in Beaverton! We usually get the Mahi Mahi tuna fish and chips. Always perfectly crispy and flaky inside. The chips are rough cut and a perfect accompaniment to the fish. Just go... I PROMISE

I keep forgetting this place exists, and yet; every time I chance upon it I'm very surprised . Food is good, MUCH better when it's hot (I was In a rush so didn't get to eat it until it was lukewarm, which is my fault. The owner is umm... how do you say "not a people person but makes really good fish n chips" in English? Because he is that. I tried two different dishes with one being the snapper... it wasn't my favorite , the haddock was really nice, even when it wasn't hot. I would like to try their halibut someday.

Wow. Hands down the best fish and chips I've ever had. After I scarfed the delicious, well-battered cod down my gullet I almost got emotional and shed a year. I feel like I have a renewed, more optimistic view on life now. Life is good because places like The Frying Scotsman exist. Thank you!!

That's me by his food cart waiting 10 minutes while he made everything fresh (he always does!).

Man, do I love this place! From that late great food cart pod across from "City Target" to that outstanding Beaverton food cart pod behind City Hall, this guy has held it down! Best, authentic fish and chips served in ample portions with homemade chips. When I was a kid, my USAF Dad was stationed at Lakenheath AFB in Great Britain. That's where I fell in love with fish and chips served in newspapers. Forty years later, I tried this place and was hooked. Authentic food prepared and served by a real Scotsman! My lunch today was perfection. Thanks again! Oh...and his prices are a bargain considering the portions.

To conclude our first night in Portland, we decided to check out the popular BGs Food Cartel outdoor food court. My son was in the mood for a burger and tots (in retrospect we should have gone with his decision), and we were in the mood for seafood. I did a quick Yelp review and saw The Frying Scotsman Fish & Chips had solid reviews. Upon walking up to his establishment, he greeted us and asked what we would like to order. Since we have similar tastes, we both ordered red snapper and chips. My wife being the unofficial chef that she is, observed him preparing the meals. One thing that she noticed was that he did not use any kind of seasoning. With that being said, we were optimistic and confident that he had some magical touch that would make the fish delicious...boy were we wrong! The size of the two planks of fish was pretty impressive; however, that's where the good things end. The fish had absolutely no flavor and was extremely greasy. Unfortunately, our Airbnb did not have a stove, nor was it equipped with a line of chef's seasoning. Therefore, we could not bake away the grease and season the fish to our likings. However, one would argue that a meal that you purchase from a restaurant should not need to be "doctored up." If your desire is to have seasoned fish and fries, I HIGHLY suggest that you look elsewhere.

One of the few places you can find haddock and snapper fish and chips. Freshly breaded, fried and delicious. Would definitely come here again if I'm in the area.

I've been to this food cart a few times. Love the food, it's super tasty. Good things take time, and depending on what you order, it may take some time, But it is so worth it!

Best fish in the metro area. Lightly battered and cooked to perfection. The only place I've had it as good is in Scotland.

I worked four tens, all week my mental health clients were stressed and distressed, and I was honestly a lump. We both ordered a Moroccan stewed chicken that comes with saffron rice, salad, and three spicy sauces - one yogurt and maybe sumac? , one sriracha, and one yogurt mixed with sriracha maybe? We liked the rice, chicken, salad, and the yogurt sauce. Just ok though. Not omg good. I wish the two other sauces had been in separate containers and not on the rice. My mint and honey tea was fine. Kid's boba was not full. Not because it spilled either, because it was sealed with the boba seal lid thingy. For $6 that was disappointing. The hummus and dolmades plate came with one sad not good pita, ONE, and I think our Uber eats driver flung it out the window like kids used to deliver newspapers from their bikes because yogurt sauce was freaking everywhere. The hummus was not great. Teen ( the dolmades fan) said the grape leaves were good. Probably not a repeat in store. One and done.

Well, after finally getting a chance to browse all the pods, I found Dad's chicken, but nothing was grillin'. So I came back here to Pares PDX Express instead. Checked out the side menu, checked out the prices, and out comes a brutha from anotha mutha! Welcomes me, so I asked my pare "What's good?" He said, "Everything!" smh, "Damn!" A good sign :(but not a good sign for me healthwise:) haha! I asked how long he's been open, and he said, "Since September." Still fresh and new to me, so my yelpie duty was to support my locals. Here's what I ordered: Drawn to the Crispy Kare-Kare ($15), this caught my eyes! (Optional read) Typically, the Filipino kare-kare meat used is with cuts of chuck steak and boney beef neck. Some like using pork hocks. Sometimes kare-kare will have beef tripe added. But personally for me, I love my mom's version using oxtail. I don't like the neck, I don't need tripe, it's gotta be OXTAIL!!! Besides, it's all about the stew and the saucy peanut buttery flavor. About Pares PDX kare-kare version... I saw "Crispy" and knew this was referring to either crispy pata or lechon kawali (aka deep fried pork belly with skin). They serve their kare-kare with crispy pork belly, bok choy, long string beans, and eggplant. The stew of peanut sauce was drizzled on top. With the home-made shrimp bagoong (fried shrimp paste) in between. I would have stayed outside on the patio tables, but it was going to rain. So I rushed home, and mmm mmm mmm the pieces were still nice and crispy indeed! I haven't had pork belly in so long that I was in heaven, not worrying if I needed to go to the hospital afterwards lol. You can have the dish with plain rice or garlic rice. I chose the garlic rice, which is almost a given. A bit of more information: ~ They've got a QR code to view the menu and/or place an order. ~ Majority or nearly all of the dishes were $15 average. ~ To feed your eyes, there are pics of the dishes on the side of the truck. ~ Service was pleasant and fast. Can't say I'll ever order what I can make myself, like adobo, sisig, pinoy style spaghetti, or lumpia, but I will definitely be back to try their version of pansit palabok, laing, dinuguan, and turon. I'll even try their "halo halo" next time! The Filipino authenticity, kinda like mom's style is here! Come check them out!

Multiple times now, I have placed an order, watched the status change to "Confirmed" and even "Preparing," only for the restaurant or their system to cancel the order abruptly after the Dasher is already assigned or on their way. This is not just a minor inconvenience; it completely wastes time and effort planning a meal. A major contributing factor is that they frequently forget to close and update their DoorDash channel, showing they are available for online ordering when they are not. It gives the false hope that the food is on its way, only to be cancelled last minute, forcing a scramble to find dinner/lunch elsewhere. The management needs to seriously address their online order process, communication with delivery platforms, and their kitchen capacity. If you cannot fulfill an order, it should be rejected immediately, not 30-40 minutes after confirmation. Until this issue is fixed, I cannot recommend ordering from here, especially for delivery. It's too unreliable to depend on.
