We visited with a party of 4 on Sunday afternoon and we were greeted and seated quickly. They were not busy and offered patio and indoor seating. We planned to eat outdoors but the train came through and they were able to move us in quickly. We ordered 12 oysters but they were out of the ones we wanted. They came accompanied with 2 vodka shots which we enjoyed. Our sharing plates came out slightly dirty but we had them switched out for new ones. We tried their honey chicken wings that were small wings fried with a crunchy skin and honey coating. We tried their fried Asian mushrooms and peppers and they were okay. I got their burger which was good but substituted a quinoa salad on the side but the quinoa wasn't really flavored. My boyfriend Mom got their turkey Apple club and it was huge came with a side of fries. I would recommend their apple turkey club. read more

The General Public has everything you would want from a casual sports bar/restaurant. Went here for dinner with a couple friends on a Saturday night. I had the fish and chips which consisted of three pieces of fish and a whole lot of fries in a basket with lemons, ketchup, tartar sauce, and malt vinegar. Everything was served on a cutting board which made for a cool presentation. The service mirrored the food as our waiter was friendly and did a good job taking care of us. Probably the best moment during our dinner, and totally unexpected, was The General Public's sunset toast. If you happen to be at the restaurant when the sun goes down, seven days a week, you are handed a free shot. The bartender says a toast, and then everyone in the restaurant (of drinking age of course) takes the shot together. How cool and a great way to show appreciation for your customers! One of my friend's burgers took longer than expected to come out so our waiter gave us another round of shots on the house on his own initiative. The menu isn't too too big so that would be my only criticism. Friendly service and great food! read more

My group had our second brunch hear. We started at southernlieght for the frozen mimosas, then came here for the bloodmary pitcher and hush puppies. Those two didn't disappoint, honestly everything our group got was good except for the enchilada I didn't really enjoy that so minus 1 start for that. Our servers Johnathon and Nicole were awesome . Came here last minute as the place we had chosen for dinner had 1-1/2 hour wait. Honestly so glad we ate here instead! We got the charcuterie board and giant pretzel for apps and they were both so delicious. For my meal I got the fish and chips and my bf and his cousin both got the prime rib sandwich. We all enjoyed everything, food, ambiance, service, everything was as it should be at a dining establishment. Our waitress was the sweetest girl and very attentive the entire visit. I was traveling through San Antonio and stopped at the Rim for the night. I was looking for a restaurant close by with outdoor seating and came across the General Public. Went on a Friday afternoon. Was sat immediately but was not acknowledged AT ALL after being sat. Sat at the table for about 10 minutes before we decided to leave, and no one even knew we walked out the door. Multiple servers walked by, but not one person stopped by our table. Horrible service. Don't waste your time. Decided to try this place again on a lively Friday evening. Service was SLLOOOWWWW. I ordered the Mezcal Mule, which was OK. Thought it was a bit excessive to charge $10. I also ordered the quail, which sounded delicious as it was explained by the server. However, I was not impressed. The quail was overdone and WAY TOO SALTY. The scallion hot cakes were OK.. really just enough to get the salt out of your mouth. Looks like a-lot of food on the plate, but really not much meat. Would not recommend. read more

Visited and a weekday for happy hour not super crowded. The drink specials were decent and the tapas were fairly tasty. Our server was awesome, very friendly and courteous. I would say they were understaffed though because we witnessed at least two parties sit at the bar and then leave without being served. The lone bartender was simply stretched too thin. We were in a booth and our server was hustling so we didn't have any issues with service. One other issue was the lone urinal wouldn't flush so that was a definite blemish. Minus these two things I would've given the bar 4 stars. read more

So I didn't know that lump crab hush puppies was a thing, but apparently it is and I've been missing out on life. Shitake peppers - can you say deep fried? The batter taste light and peppers aren't too spicy however it looks dangerous. .that deep fried love kind of dangerous. Arrived on a Sunday at 1:30 before a 2:30 movie at The Paladium. The high number of reviews and rumors of a delicious birthday cake assured that I would come here. Karensa, my friend on Yelp had a bad experience so I was prepared for disappointment. But I had to know what's up with that birthday cake. The host opened the door for us as he saw us approaching. He was dressed in smart jeans and a crisp white shirt. He was nice. The place was crowded, loud, I see how his eyes scan the place where he knows there are available tables and he takes us promptly to a two chair table. Lots of families here with kids. The place is loud to really loud. I did not like the server that much. Same look, smart jeans and a nice blue shirt. They both looked like patrons,not employees. He had an opportunity to tell us he would be right with us but lacked those social skills. Also, he put his elbows akimbo when he asked what wanted to drink. So I wanted the smoked ham and swiss "uh yea we are out of ham right now, that's the only thing we don't have." Ok, so what is this Wagyu beef thing? "That is like where the meat is cut thin and.." Ok do you have A-1 sauce? "Uh no but we have Worcestershire sauce." To quote the immortal Texas icon and beloved bimbo Anna Nicole Smith, "what kind of place has no A-1 Sauce?" WTF this is Texas! I ordered a Marquez #2 (margarita) it sneaks up on you. Just good enough for me to ask for another, not that I was ever asked. Server too busy trying to look cool then focused on service. I watched him work, inefficient to the point of inept. I see him at another table with his arms akimbo, that is a defensive posture and a big turn off to paying customers. Anyway, I wound up having a grilled cheese with green chili. But I ordered a burger. The dummy messed up my order. To her credit, a nice manager lady offered to fix it. That was classy. The food was good but when you do not get what you ordered, it takes away from the pleasure. But they did offer to make it right. I did not have time to wait for them to get the order right so I just ate what they brought. A few levels better than typical bar food but not what I would say is true "good meal" worthy. You come here for social not culinary reasons. Alas, the birthday cake was ok but not as great as I expected. It has a very old school mealy taste. I would come back, but not in any particular hurry. read more

Came in for drinks during a conference event. There's a large bar in the center and some chairs scattered all around. Only tried one of their mixed drinks, none of the food. It's a fun lively vibe and they have the windows open, so I can see it being a great spot in the evening or after work. I think it can get pretty crowded if parking was any indication. Find the garage and park there or you'll be circling around for a long time. With Bowl and Barrel and The Rustic nearby, I can easily conceive making it a three stop night. read more

We tried the bacon wrapped shrimp, crab hush puppies, sliders, daily tots & the lettuce wraps (don't judge we hadn't eaten all day ) We started out the afternoon with Lulu who was welcoming, attentive, and SO polite. It seems like such a small thing, but when you're traveling alone, being welcomed back like that can completely change your evening. What really impressed me was seeing that it wasn't just me. The guy next to me ordered two pizzas to go, and when the chef brought them out he smiled and said, "Oh, Jose! I thought this order looked familiar!" You can tell they actually know their regulars and genuinely enjoy what they do. The second night I ordered the Fontina e Salsiccia, and somehow it was just as good as the first pizza. Everything is cooked in the wood-fired oven--even the wings--and you can taste the difference. The crust has that perfect char, the ingredients are fresh, and it's the kind of authentic Neapolitan pizza that keeps you thinking about it long after you've left. Here go! Another mid-day review of a restaurant I've never even heard of. The General Public is a bar and sit down hybrid and offers three cuisine levels: Lunch, Barroom, Supper. The design of this place is a mix of country home and industrial with a color scheme of navy blue, copper and cream. The walls are decorated with old timey portraits and art work featuring animal caricatures who stand sand upright, dress very dapper while playing instruments or strutting their stuff- or BOTH! This isn't a family joint. This more of a happy hour lounge joint. In addition to the indoor seating, there's a covered patio style seating section with a view of adjacent outdoor department stores. The sound system is good and it immediately makes you feel as tho you're in a bar. TV screens are present but are a far distance from the bar which tells me this place isn't meant to be a sports bar destination but if you wanted to glance up and see some action, you can do so. Let's talk food! We started with appetizers which can be found in the SHARE section of the menu. We ordered Shishitos & Shrooms ($8): tempura style, fresh cilantro & siracha dipping sauce. And we ordered Honey Fried Chicken which is cayenne crusted with honey glaze. Shishitos & Shrooms were delicious and no where near as hot as I thought. The Honey Friend Chicken as fantastic as well. The cayenne crust was crispy and flavorful. I definitely recommend these two appetizers. For the main course, TX Wagyu Beef ($19) and the Bacon Burger ($13). I didn't know what Wagyu Beef was until I googled it. The meat isn't frozen. It's handled fresh and I believe it was a hybrid beef. 50% Wagyu. This cut of beef was tender with a medium center and was FANTASTIC!!! Not too salty, not to much pepper. Just right for my taste. The Bacon burger was good as well. This was my first egg bun and I enjoyed the light texture. Definitely a good atmosphere with an eclectic menu. Overall experience was good. Food was good- not amazing. I've been coming to GP for years for their famous $3,$4,$5 happy hour! But this time I came in and ordered the same thing I always drink, vodka soda with a lime. I added a splash of cranberry juice this time. We get the tab and all of my drinks are $7, when they should be $3 per the "happy hour". I was told by my bartender the happy hour is everything is $3 during 3pm hours besides top shelf, and no shots. So when I saw my tab with all drinks at $7 I was confused. I asked the bartender why this was and he said because i didn't order a "cocktail" on their menu. For example they have ranch waters on their menu. I'm a bartender and I know ranch water is spirt-soda water-lime. I ordered vodka soda lime with a splash of cran. So what that looks like is I'm paying $4 extra for a splash of cranberry. My friend ordered vodka sprite, so that looks like $4 up charge for sprite off of the gun. Same pour of alcohol so I was confused how they'd even be missing out on money? I asked to speak to a manager and the manager says that I've been misinformed about what the happy hour is supposed to be... even tho I've been coming here for years and it's always been the way I explained above... he asked me for my servers names and I told him I didn't want to get anyone in trouble but maybe to get the staff all on the same page on what the happy hour actually is if that's the case. I don't ever really have the same server or bartender when I visit so I'm not sure how everyone is giving me the same happy hour prices. He comped $25 off of our bill so I thank him for that, but I won't be returning because it seems this place tries to have their little loopholes to get away with charging people for things because they know most people won't say anything since the location is in a nice area with people who have money to spend. Our server told us that it's only been open for 10 months now, and EVERYTHING on there menu is made from scratch!! No wonder their food taste so great!! I had the pork and greens and my girlfriend had the crab cakes. Both entrées were fantastic. I highly recommend the pork and greens, the bacon aioli on top definitely brought an amazing taste to the dish. The crab cakes were definitely different then crab cakes I've had at other places. These had more crab then cake. Thank God! This is the first place where the crab cakes actually tasted like crab! It comes with a side of roasted sprouts and on top of a base of aioli. The plate was mouth watering to say the least. Over all, I'm definitely making this place a regular spot for me. Update*** This is the 5th or more time I've been here and it doesn't disappoint. I recently dined at General Public, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. Despite the restaurant being relatively quiet, the wait time for our food was unusually long. This was surprising given the lack of crowd, and it set the tone for the rest of the meal. When the food finally arrived, I was disappointed. I had ordered the Texas Food Month dinner special, and the dish was overwhelmingly seasoned with rosemary, to the point where it overpowered the other flavors. Additionally, the fries were dry and lacked seasoning entirely, making them quite unappetizing. To add to the overall experience, the wait staff seemed inattentive and, at times, came across as somewhat rude. It's always disheartening when service doesn't meet basic expectations, especially when dining out is meant to be an enjoyable experience. While I understand that everyone has off days, this visit to General Public was unfortunately not what I had hoped for. This is my first Yelp review and there is not a better place that I could think of writing a review for. General Public is nestled away at the RIM. Its location is perfect as you can park in a parking garage, on the street, or in adjacent plazas. This makes it a short walk around the hustle and bustle of the RIM. My fiance and I have been to this restaurant over 10 times and we have never left unsatisfied. The food is incredible. We have always ordered different things and have never been let down. The owner is constantly present. Staff is attentive, friendly, and are well-versed in the menu and beverages. Edith has bartended for us several times and she is incredible. For more than one occasion, I have had the pleasure of visiting The General Public. I'm really big on aesthetic and theirs is right on point! The waiters/bartenders in their jean on jean outfits are so adorable. The calming blue colors and lighting create a quaint atmosphere that really makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. My favorite part, of course, are the drinks. I think the special ingredient in the drinks are the bartender's love!! One in particular is Leah, she is the coolest bartender I have ever met... I told her the types of alcohol I liked and she creatively made me a beautiful drink, I'm talking phenomonal. She is so amazing at her job that the next time I went, she remembered me and asked if I wanted "MY drink". That is what I call exceptional service! Okay, I have to admit, I was pretty surprised with how impressed I was with this place. However, a few friends recommended we take a night out to this bar/restaurant and I agreed to give it a shot. The atmosphere is phenomenal. The bar takes up about half the inside area but it's classy and really stunning. We decided to get a table. Service was great, our waitress was lovely and very attentive throughout the night. Now onto drinks, I had some gin specialty cocktail with mint and basil which was to die for. Don't quite remember the others too well but they were all great. Onto food, we had the crab hushpuppies and peppers & mushrooms per our waitress' recommendation. Amazing!!!! Usually I don't do these things, but I seriously never had a server do this to my mother. First off my mother has Pre-Alzheimer's disease, and she had a hard time picking things and making up her mind, because she's beginning to forgot things. Andres, literally sat down with my mother and explained everything on the menu to her. Everything and did it more than once because she kept forgetting. Later to find out that his grandma is in the late stages of it, so he understands what was happening. But, I seriously haven't seen a server do that before and have that much patience and kindness before. The food was outstanding too by the way. The crab cakes have so much crab in them!! Our waiter seemed to forget about us, and we had to ask another staff member to find him when it was time to pay. The food was a mixed experience. The crispy chicken sandwich was flavorful, warm, and toasty, with a side of fries I couldn't complain about. However, the chicken apple club fell flat--cold despite being toasted, and the thick apple slices were too much. The highlight was the crispy empanadas: perfectly crunchy, easy to eat, and filled with delicious potatoes and meat. We came across a restaurant/bar and just needed a little A/C. We walked into a nice looking place with and got a warm welcome. Came here late Friday night for a few drinks and food. We had never been here this late so we ended up getting what they call their "late night menu", which is just pizza. This pizza is amazing!! The flavor was phenomenal and the crust is to die for. The hostess Karen greeted us at the door with a smile and sat us quickly. Our server Cat was super sweet and got our drinks pretty quick. Coincidentally went into this restaurant during their happy hour, which takes place any day before 5PM, and was delighted to find that most of their alcoholic beverages were only $4. They offer a lovely variety of crafted cocktails and wine by the glass, as well as different whiskeys. I ordered a mezcal mule and it was an original cocktail. Their food menu, although not extensive, does offer some intriguing options such as a bone marrow appetizer and a quail dish. The only thing lacking might've been the customer service. Ever since we had been coming to General Public, which was last year we've had the honor of being "regulars" for servers Joe & also Nicole (mostly Joe lol bc he loves when my husband, daughter & I come in almost every weekend for brunch). We always look forward to & enjoy our Sunday Funday brunches with Joe as our server & love that the bar tender Caleb makes those mimosas & brunch cocktails delicious! I moved down here a few months ago and have tried MANY places to find my new "spot".... I randomly strolled in here one day and I've gone every week since. Spencer and Lulú.... I can't say enough about how amazing they are. Efficient, quick, and personable... they probably know my whole life story (sorry guys). Every time I come in, they are smiling. Service, atmosphere, whatever it may be, there is nothing better than walking into a business where the employees are happy to be there. You need to visit or I promise, you're missing out. read more

This was our third time coming in, and Lulu made our experience absolutely wonderful. Aly is great and super sweet. Avoid Caleb, he overcharged us significantly during happy hour. Water under the bridge though. However, Lulu's upbeat energy, beautiful smile, and experience with making the drinks made our day! I was deeply impressed with her great work ethic, and overall friendliness with all her customers. Great happy hour from 3pm-4pm. Definitely recommend going in when Lulu is working!! read more

This place is very hip and cool. The Brunch was hopping. They also have a GREAT happy hour everything on the menu is $3 @ 3pm $4 @4pm and $5 @ 5pm CRAZY WE WILL BE BACK FOR THAT. The General Manager Eddie and the other young female manager Aria were very on top of things, service was great.The crab stack was amazing there was really allot crab in the crab cake, who knew that was supposed to be in there everywhere else you get mostly breading not here. We hadn't been to The General Public in way too long and so glad we chose it tonight! King.M was a wonderful host and server who actually made us feel like we were valued guests instead of an interruption in his night (like many other establishments these days). frankly, I wish he would teach a class for others in the service industry. My wife had the Shimp Tacos and I had the Smash Burger. Fries come with the burger and these guys have shoestring fries! I highly recommend those. This is a big burger and it will fill you up. We really enjoyed our meal. But the Werks is not a burger place. Their menu is impressive. There is something for everyone. Steaks, rib eye, fish, pasta, pizza, salads and a great list of sandwiches. Great service, classy interior with comfortable seating makes this restaurant a good choice for a nice date night.

I had a strawberry margarita, which was sweet and delicious, just the way I like it! One of my guests ordered a blueberry mixed drink, but they were accidentally served a peach drink. We notified the server immediately, and when he returned, it was the same drink with no straw or cherry. He mentioned the bartender had added blueberry mix into the peach drink rather than bringing the correct one. That felt odd and inconsiderate. If the drink couldn't be swapped or refunded, it would have been much better to simply be informed instead of receiving this unusual workaround. For my meal, I ordered the ribeye steak with asparagus and mashed potatoes as usual. Disappointingly, the entire plate felt bland. The seasoning was minimal, and it didn't taste like the Stone Werks meals I know and love. Steak and mashed potatoes should be a guaranteed win, especially for this restaurant. On the bright side, the calamari was perfect, crispy and flavorful. I'll still be visiting this location because I genuinely enjoy the restaurant. Hopefully this was just an off day, and things will be back to their usual high standard next time.

We visited this establishment several times and likely would have become regulars if not for a few…read moreconcerns. First, the glassware is cleaned using a 3-dunk system where the final rinse is sanitizer rather than clean water (see images). I react to sanitizer residue on glasses, and, as an MD, I assure you that any exposure is detrimental to your GI microbiome. We politely asked whether the glasses could simply be rinsed and dried before serving but were told this would only be possible during slower periods. As a workaround, we began bringing our own glasses. Second, the bar staff assured us their pours were standard 16 oz pints. To avoid confusion, we marked our glasses at the 16 oz line. On a later visit, the owner's daughter (whose approach to customer service was unnecessarily confrontational) stormed over and informed us in a rude tone that their glasses were actually 14 oz "shakers," not pints. She then poured the beers well below 14 oz. After measuring the remaining volume at home, the pour was close to 10 oz. We own 14 oz beer glasses, and to receive true 14 oz, the glass would need to be filled to the rim, which obviously is not how beers are served. In practice, customers are receiving roughly 10 oz pours for $7 - excessive and misleading, especially when places like Yard House serve actual pints for $5.49 in properly dishwasher-cleaned glassware. Regarding the food, everything is supplied by Sysco, and nothing is made in-house. It is served on plastic or aluminum trays. Overall, the combination of lack of properly clean glassware -- which is the bare minimum an establishment charging premium prices should provide -- deceptive pour sizes, and the dismissive handling of legitimate customer concerns left us very disappointed. We won't be returning.

Silo is on second floor and you will have to take an elevator to it. Parking is available on site but shared with the other businesses.
