Halal Guys was probably my first ever introduction to Mediterranean food, and I unfortunately haven't had a chance to visit the OG location in New York yet. Nonetheless, I stopped by for a regular combination (beef gyro & chicken) bowl and fried chicken. That hummus is an additional add-on makes me sad, but watching the staff build your bowl real-time was refreshing. Every ingredient was fresh and tasted good. I didn't know there was a small versus regular size; that regular one definitely could be two meals despite how small it may initially appear! The fried chicken was fried straight from the freezer. Now, I'm not sure what they do to these chicken, but... wow were these some of the crispiest NOT OILY wings that I've had in a while! I chose the green sauce (forgot if herby ranch?) which paired well. To be honest, you probably couldn't go wrong with any sauce that you picked! First time trying Halal guys. They do give a lot of protein for how much you pay (about $13 for a wrap) and you can stack in some veggies and white or spicy sauce. You can pick chicken, gyro, or both. I got both and although the gyro was good and flavorful the chicken was chewy and questionable. Also, the Greek pita bread they use for the wrap was so stale it was like eating a piece of cardboard. Not sure how old it is but it definitely was sitting there for a few days. Besides that, the workers were nice and helpful and the service was quick and easy. The location is located on the street side and there is no street parking but they offer a paid parking structure connected to the shop. My partner brought back Halal Guys late at night, and it was the perfect late night meal. The employee at the register gave us extra packets of the white sauce and hot sauce for free, which was great (DoorDash charges extra for that). I got a small bowl with chicken, beef gyro, and hummus on top. It was still a pretty hefty meal, but everything tasted great. The chicken was not overly dry, but the star of the show is definitely the white sauce. We also tried their mint lemonade, which to my pleasant surprise, was pretty mint forward. This is a nice spot to get a quick meal. I've stopped several times and enjoy the food and the quick service. It's more like fast food vs a sit down restaurant. But I think the food quality is pretty good. The ambiance is much more like a fast food place. You get a tray and it's quick turn tables. I took an order for takeout yesterday around 6:15pm. I got two combo plates, and came home. I dont know what this is, but it was inside the food, and I didn't see it until I had taken a bite. It's a piece of hard black metal that might have been dangerous if swallowed. Please be careful. It was really sharp and hard. Tried bending it, and doesn't even bend. I remember when they first opened, they are on the corner of Mariposa and Wilshire. They were better than this, but they are still good, especially when you leave the brass monkey at 01:30 - 02:00. Being somebody who only eats halal, places that serve halal meat have a big advantage to me. I've heard of halal guys in multiple locations but I've never tried it and since I was in the Wilshire area I decided to try this spot.. To start off, this place is located on a corner where the street is super busy on one corner and the other it is FULL of homeless encampments. There's no parking anywhere close by and to park you have to pay since it's nearby to a mall center of some sort. Anyways, when I entered and greeted I ordered the chicken & gyro combo platter, I ordered 6 platters for myself and my brothers. As I'm waiting for my food I can see it being made in front of me. It is sad to see and say it, but it did not look appetizing whatsoever, just looking around where they make the food it looked filthy...didn't look like they're a clean establishment and I noticed the person taking cash from a customer used the same gloves to collect the money and touched the food. I get my food and I have to admit, it was gross. The chicken gyro was fine...however everything else was absolutely appalling, the beef tasted so bad and just seeing how it was sitting on the skewer and it being cut with a mechanical slicer just did not look good. It was not hot at all, it didn't taste like it was seasoned and it definitely didn't feel like real shawarma. My brothers also felt the exact same way and were actually mad at me for picking this place.... Overall, this place was a crazy disappointment and it hurts to have to make such bad reviews like this, but what a joke. This place clearly needs to do better because not only was I not impressed, but I was actually disgusted. SERIOUSLY disappointed. I come here primarily for the fries. In one instance, I placed my order in the app and went to pick up my food. After picking it up and leaving, I arrive at my destination only to realize they forgot the fries. No worries, mistakes happen. Another time I go there for my pick up order, an employee says that they don't have my order. I show them my phone and then a different employee (the guy from the first instance, large individual) gets up in my face, raising his voice telling me I'm wrong (or something to that effect). He embarrasses me and I correct him in a respectful voice. After doing so, his coworkers just look around awkwardly. He himself offers NO apology for the disrespect. I get coupon codes for this location and apparently "they no longer accept them" - Which can be all well and true, but don't make me fill out a survey with lots of questions for a coupon only for it to be denied. It's really that one large employee who causes issues with his disrespect, the others were helpful/kind. I hope Halal Guys is able to prevent my negative experience from happening to someone else. The halal guys. What can I say. Decent street food served over the counter; a chipotle-esque middle eastern fare. The service is great and straight forward. The food is good not shoe stopping but very filling. The highlight of the meal is the spicy red sauce. Very spicy so use sparingly. The white sauce was like a grocery store salad ranch packet, not like the garlic sauce often found at more traditional and it's recommended to also use sparingly.
