My family and I regularly visit other locations, where we consistently receive excellent customer service and quality food. Unfortunately, our experience at this location sucked. On Sunday, 7/5/26, at approximately 5:45 p.m., we ordered chili cheese fries with pastrami. When I went to pick up our order, the female employee who handed us the food was unnecessarily rude. I politely asked for four forks, and she gave me only two. I politely asked again for two more, and she handed me just one. When I asked again, she simply walked away, ignored us, and stopped assisting us altogether. She was the only female employee working at that time, making it easy to identify the individual involved. To make matters worse, we discovered that we were overcharged. The amount on our receipt did not match the amount charged to our credit card. That is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the business. Customers should carefully review both their receipts and their credit card statements to ensure they are charged correctly. One additional observation is that my family and I were the only Asian customers in what appeared to be a predominantly White establishment, both among the staff and the clientele. I sincerely hope our treatment and the billing discrepancy were unrelated to our race, but it is an observation I made. Based on this experience, we will not be returning to this location. I expect businesses to treat all customers with respect, provide accurate billing, and deliver the level of service that reflects basic professionalism. read more

You lost a 25 year customer today. I would implore you all to not patronize The Hat. You will have to open and inspect the toppings on every single item before leaving the parking lot to make sure it's right, so what's the point in using a drive through? Stupid me for just checking that I had 4 burgers tonight, and not unwrap them to check them individually. When I got home I find out that every single one was wrong. I had hungry kids so I tried to scrape off and salvage when I could to get them eating, and then drove all the way back to get it made fixed. When I asked to speak to a manager, apparently there is no manager there in the evenings, I told the woman who came to the counter that every single burger was wrong and showed her the receipt. She asked what was wrong about them, so I started going down the list and she never offered to remake it the right way or really offered any remedy so I said just refund the whole thing if you're not going to even offer to make it right. If I have to do your quality check, and unwrap every item to scrutinize it, I would rather just not give your restaurant my business. I tried to get in touch with their corporate office and they have not responded in a week. Looks like the whole thing is going downhill since Corky passed away. What a shame. read more

I've been coming to this location since 1990, and I've noticed in the last couple of years the quality has gone down. Today I only ordered a small French fries and a side of chili. The fries were not that good, they'd been sitting awhile, I ate about half of them and threw them away. The side of chili was a joke, I paid full price for a side of chili only to get a half a cup. I love the hat, however this location isn't the best. The customer service sucks and they couldn't even do half no cheese on our chill cheese fries so I can share them with someone who can't eat cheese. The one in rancho is so much better, always super nice and always accommodates us, no problem. The lady working drive through is so rude when we asked for chilies too. Last night, while I was out with some buddies in Upland we decided to stop by The Hat for a late dinner! The place wasn't too packed when we arrived and I ordered the Chili Fries with Pastrami on top. The food took about 10 mins to prepare and I have to say I was not dissapointed by the size and the taste. The dish was massive and definitely meant for more than 1 person. Always a great time here! I love The Hat and their pastrami dip sandwiches. This is my go-to and I also like getting small fries and chili on the side and dipping rather than getting a small chili cheese fries because their portions are MASSIVE! Inside is always clean and comfortable and it's nice that they have late hours and a drive through option. I only interact with the staff when placing and receiving my order, but never had an issues here and everyone has always been friendly. Only thing I'm bummed about is the prices have gone up a bit and I've noticed the size/pastrami has gone down for the sandwich. It was very poor. Used to have the best pastrami dip but not anymore. The went a couple of weeks ago and it was horrible. Seems I left a review and not it had disappeared somehow so I have to repost. This time I have pictures that speak for themselves. If you notice one looks worse than the other. You can see how they soaked the whole bun in the juice and scrunched it all up tried to tightly wrap it but the meat wasn't in the bun. That is exactly how it got it. The meat was hard and not compacted the buns desegrated it was a tangled mess. The better looking one was the improved one when I took it back. Same thing. I saw the man completely dip the bun in the au jus and roll it. Not sue they used to dip the whole bun it, but something is wrong. The meat wasn't tender maybe under cook. Maybe the meat is supposed to be juicer softer and wet and the bun you just leave alone and not dip it or just dip the surface not the whole bun. Meat was hard bun was over soaked. It was clean with a few patrons enjoying their heart attack laden food all spread out. Doo-wop music was playing--all too ideal for this place built in the early 1950's. You place your order at the counter (as the order taker yells out your order yo the cooks next to him), pay tgen find your seat. Thank goodness they have Coca-cola types of beverages (not Pepsi)!! Got my cup & dispensed Diet Coke to pair with my burger & Hubby's pastrami burger. We sat at a booth while more customers piled in to order. Within minutes, our food gets called out & Hubby picks it up, packaged in brown paper bags. The fries were piping hot & plentiful-although needed some seasoning, but good. My burger was messy as hell but tasted pretty good. Hubby's pastrami was good and he said it might be the best in California. I called to let them know so they can give me credit since it's not cheap and the female manager disregarded my concern and said they were layered. The Hat is our go-to when we come down for the NHRA drag races. The menu has lots of items, but everyone's eating the Pastrami sandwiches. They are the masters, the experts, the mecca. They go through a massive amount of Pastrami every day. Each sandwich is stuffed with as much Pastrami as possible. Fries for days......no one leaves still hungry. I love the food, service & atmosphere :) They have "World Famous Pastrami" in addition to more sandwiches & burgers plus you can get pastrami and/or gravy on pretty much everything :) :) :) I had the Roast Beef Sandwich w/ gravy & my Son had the Pastrami, we shared an order of Gravy Fries :) :) :) Everything was so good & fresh from the rolls to the meat and especially the gravy!! This is an old school style diner for sure in both the menu choices & décor. The kitchen is open so you can watch them making you meal which I think is fun :) The staff is friendly but quick and efficient. The dining room is large and clean, they also have some outdoor seating and a drive thru. The large parking lot is clean and well lit.
