The Inn of the Hawke is one of my favorite Lambertville restaurants. The food is great, and I love the atmosphere. You feel like you have journeyed back in time. While the inside is charming, I also like eating outside, surrounded by the many flowers and plants. The service is a little slow, but the food is well worth the wait, and our waiter was very attentive.My arugula salad was delicious with fresh figs, cheese, and a tasty dressing. My friends were pleased as well,with their salmon and lamb and beef gyro. I also ordered the delicious potato crisps. That was disappointing. For a 20 buck plate, Chicken Caesar,you get a pre-over-blanched breast thrown on a broiler to give it char lines, cut n 3/4" rubbery slabs tossed on the salad. And the shrimp étouffée, which lacks simple trinity: peppers, onions and celery.... with frozen shrimp and a a pasty bland sauce. Awful. Good beer selection, and the patio seating was airy....but the kitchen is not trying to give you much more than fast food. read more

I like Inn of The Hawke. I want to love it but the food and service are spotty. For every fantastic meal I have had here, I've had an equal number of "just okay" meals. Disappointing I took my husband there for his 62nd. birthday. Two hours prior to our arrival I called and spoke to the Mgr. Becca and made her aware that it was my husbands birthday and I wanted a candle on his dessert and a happy birthday song. Becca assured me she would arrange everything. On arrival we were seated by Becca in a cute area of the resaurant. Dinner came and went and my husband ordered his dessert. The dessert arrived.....No candle, no singing. As he was finishing his dessert, the waitress returned to our table. I made her aware of my request and disappointment. She excused herself and spoke to the Manager Becca. When she returned, she informed us that Becca forgot and apoligized for her. We waited for additional 20 minutes to see if Becca herself would accept responsibiliy or let the waitress do her talking. We were given our check....full price, no discount for their screw up, or apology from the Manager. I had to hunt down Becca to voice my disappointment. A. for her mess up on my husbands birthday. B. Her refusal to accept responsibility for her screw up, and C. No attempt to satisfy a customer after screwing up . There are better places in the area to eat. Not what it used to be, was know for there fish and chips, good quality cod and crispy batter. Ok that was then this is now, soggy batter and very poor imported quality "fish". Visited the Inn with friends on a recent Sunday night. They dine here often; my husband and I were newbies. Great place for a casual meal and conversation. Drinks were good and all of us were happy with our food. We shared fried Calamari which was light and delicious--no heavy breading. Our entrees included Portabello and Crab Salad, Burger, Hungarian Goulash, and Macaroni and Cheese (mine). My Mac was decadent! It was made with a 5-cheese sauce and included grilled chicken and Chorizo. My mouth is watering as I write about it. Can't wait to return and have it again! read more

I went there two nights ago for dinner on a date. We ended up getting the dry rub wings with bbq, I asked for a side of blue cheese as well and they were absolutely phenomenal. The blue cheese was perfect as well. I ordered a Coke and the Caesar salad. The Caesar salad had homemade Caesar dressing, thick chunks of chicken and was phenomenal. My date ordered a burger and said he loved it. Service was a little slow, waitress seemed super busy with tables. Then again it was a Saturday night. That's not a deterrent and I will most definitely be back for some more wings and Caesar salad! read more

My husband and I really like this place. It has solid American fare, and an on-tap beer selection that cannot be beat in Lambertville. It's a real "locals" place, which may be why some tourists complain about it. We mostly stick to the burgers/sandwiches, but the fish and chips is great too. I highly recommend it. My first impression is not great. While it is a lovely neighborhood setting and building. The reception was less than inviting. Arriving at 4:45 we were informed of the hiatus the kitchen takes at precisely at the time we arrived. Definitely got a vibe of being an outsider from the bartender. Maybe it was just me being hungry and impatient. We opted to stay at the bar, have a drink and the order dinner. Drinks were fine, selections of wine by the glass large enough to satisfy our taste buds. With the arrival of the food things were looking up. The appetizer was delicious as was the main course. I had the prosciutto wrapped shrimp and the the pork schnitzel with spatetzel. My wife had a salad with salmon. I would recommend it to anyone. I came here at least once a week. It's the best beer selection around and the Bartenders (where I always eat) are all excellent. The menu updates regularly and if I'm not thrilled by anything the burger here is super tasty. I enjoy the homemade chips but I would like the option of fries. read more

We love this place. It is home from home when we are in the States and this is one of the reasons why we'd like to live in Lambertville. You'll not find a friendlier, more charming place with cleanliness and comfort high on the agenda. Their beds and linen make for a very good night's sleep and above all - it is quiet. The bar is lively with a very good selection of beers, some of which are seasonal and you can tell the taps are regularly cleaned because everything tastes sharp and as it should. The menu is also seasonal and for me as a vegetarian there are interesting choices. The owners are 2 sisters who are perfectionists and you can tell because everything is just spot on. Just got home from having dinner at the Inn of the Hawke. Have been there several time this season because it's a great outdoor space and the food and service have always been good. Tonight - not so much. We arrived at 4:15 and were seated on the patio, the server came over and took our drink order. One of us wanted an entree from the dinner menu which was not available until 5:00 p.m., so our server suggested that we order an appetizer and then put in our dinner order at 5:00. We ordered an appetizer that was also delivered promptly and waited for our server to return to take our dinner order. She didn't appear until 5:15, at which time we placed our order. At 5:45, she came to tell us that she had forgotten to put in our order and asked if we wanted to change anything. We said no. Our dinner finally arrived at 6:15. The server then stopped by to tell us that the manager had agreed that because of the wait, dessert was on the house. After dinner, we each ordered dessert and when the bill came only one dessert was taken off the check. When I asked why that was, the server explained that just one dessert was on the house, not both. We left at 7:15, three hours after arriving. Not a good experience. Will be dining elsewhere next time. read more

I had lunch there today with some business associates. Very impressed. I guess that I was expecting standard pub fare, but right away you could tell this place was different. The menu offered unique items and sounded, looked and tasted great. becasue i was working, no time to hit the bar, but i hear good things about it. reasonable priced and nice people. will definitely be back. I am only reviewing the room in the B&B. Did not eat the restaurant or bar. To start out the rooms are over the restaurant and bar. We had to enter the bar to check in. There were two employees at the bar, neither move to greet us or help assistance in checking in until we ask. They seemed annoyed we were disturbing whatever they were doing. The room had no TV, and a window ac unit that stopped and started every 5 minutes or so, no exaggeration. No closet in room. The breakfast does not start until 8:30 am. First morning it was still locked at 9am, we were told the manager did not show up to set breakfast. Nice! In summary, this B&B in no way met any of my expectations. Low quality room, poor service, poor employee attitude. I suggest you keep looking! read more

Great atmosphere in a 19th century inn. However, the bar was loud at 5:00 pm on a weekday. The chicken breast was dry on both my dish and my husband's. The patio looked pretty but we couldn't sit out there, as it was raining. The staff was very friendly. read more

Hi - Hate to write this, but here goes. This was my second visit to the Inn of the Hawk. First experience....incredible! Food great, service, atmosphere.....GREAT! My second trip....not so much. It was a Friday night around 7:30; a friend and I arrived to a 20 min. wait, we had a drink at the bar and were then seated at the back patio area----which I might add, is just the most beautiful atmosphere for a date especially! But here is where the problems began. After we were seated, we waited 10 minutes before a waitress even walked up to our table. Meanwhile, multiple waitresses and servers just kept passing by. I had to ask the hostess when she seated another table, if we could have a waitress. Apparently, everyone that night must've been new...because throughout the evening, waitresses were not going over to any tables. We're talking, just the "How is everything?" comment that is always good to ask after your food is served. So I ordered a bacon cheddar burger with guacamole...a favorite of mine. The food did come out promptly, but my burger had no bacon. Had to return it. It came back out, and all was well. Food tasted great! But then we had to wait another 15 min. or so for our waitress to come back for another round of drinks. When she did, no "is there anything I can get for you.....", no, "how is your meal"....just, "would you like another drink...." which we got. At the end of the meal, waitress as if we wanted another drink, my friend told her we were going to wait a bit.......she then abruptly took up our glasses.....and came out with the bill? Very strange..... In all, loved the food.....but whoever is in charge of training the wait staff-----needs training him/herself. read more

I used to work at this establishment many years ago and felt proud to be a part of the charming atmosphere and great food. But change is inevitable in the restaurant industry so I was pleasantly surprised when I returned as a customer to find the high level of quality that I remember. Everything was great! Service was super friendly and attentive. Had a delicious salad with fennel and arugula, then a glorious bowl of mac 'n cheese that was perfect in every way. My two friends enjoyed their apps and entrees as well. All three of us also remarked on how fairly priced food and alcohol was especially for the area. I've always regarded The Hawke as Lambertville's hidden gem. It made me feel happy that the owners are still doing a great job and I wish them many more years of success. read more

Okay, wth happened here?! We've been coming to the Hawke for years now around the holidays, and while the food was never anything outstanding, it was never a disappointment on such a massive scale either! Four of us went there the other week for brunch, maybe that was the problem?! Read an other review here about the hard boiled eggs Benedict, that was us as well. Waited almost an hour to get our food that turned my stomach the minute I laid eyes on it. Yuck!! Who is cooking here?! And how do they allow such slop to leave the kitchen? Where are the owners?! Does anybody care? Do they not need the money or do they think the bar with that morose bartender will keep them afloat? Or the inn. Because they can't possibly stay in business serving that crap much longer. I felt angry and insulted that anybody thought it was okay to bring us food that in prison would've caused a riot. The only thing that stopped us from an uprising was the poor server, who looked miserable and embarrassed, and tried her best to save a fast sinking ship. Last night was my fourth visit to the Hawke. I have nothing to say about the food other than it is OK. However, when the main courses were being served, the server dripped a significant amount of the juice from the rack of lamb on my sport coat and shirt. The server said she was sorry and left. My wife said we should not let this spoil our dinner (we were celebrating her retirement). I said nothing to the server. By the end of the evening, and $200.00 later, NOT one management person or owner had come by to see if there might be something they could do about my coat and shirt. I am able to pay the dry cleaning bill but I will never go back to the Innof the Hawke again. The lack of concern and the disrespect of the owners/management of the inn is NOT acceptable. read more

In my opinion one of the best places in nj. Excellent food, not the same old same old thing. Even standard dishes like the mac and cheese are uniquely theirs. Great bar, bartenders who can make cocktails properly. Wonderful desserts. The sangria changes with the seasons, the menu constantly has new options. A kitchen that challenges itself and the quality never waivers. Also it is away from the hubub so it is always a peaceful place even when the town is busy. They hit it on every possible note. 4 of us had a late lunch on New Year's Day 2018. Everything was fantastic. Food was delicious. Our server was very accommodating, pleasant and did not rush us. Others in the dining room with the roaring fireplace also ate leisurely. The decor decorated for the season is charming and has an aged look but fresh, with great old photographs and art work. This location is also an Inn and I hope to stay soon. Lambertville is a quiet sweet town, and I hope to visit more this year. read more

We took our family with grandchildren to the restaurant and ordered the children's food immediately because we knew the service was slow. It didn't matter. It took over 50 minutes to come out. They did provide crayons and color page and it was great for our 4 yr old but not the 2 old who after 20 minutes was crawling on the empty table. We couldn't even get bread timely.
