We've had a long and very positive relationship with another HVAC company, and so it was with some reluctance that we called Rhonda at The Heat Pump Store to get us a competitive bid on a minisplit for our new home. We figured our other guy would've been "competitive enough" that we'd end up giving him another installation. The price difference, however, was dramatic. A significant amount of the difference probably had to do with the fact The Heat Pump Store has their own electricians on staff, but we also suspect they do significantly more volume as well as they don't try to do other types of heating and cooling equipment. So based on price and all the other positive reviews we read about them, not to mention how customer service focused and responsive Rhonda was, we went with them. The installation went smoothly, the electricians and installers were friendly and competent, we passed inspection without a hitch, and the minisplit is working great! read more

I purchased a house with a Daiken unit. I was made to understand that the labor warranty was non-transferrable (as the paperwork stated) and I was in agreement with that. The original purchaser paid for that warranty and that would only go to them. I would be more than happy to pay for labor. That being said, I mentioned that Daiken had a 12 year parts warranty on my unit that stayed with the unit, and I was told that was incorrect and that they would not honor that warranty and that it was only a 5 year warranty from the date of purchase because it transferred ownership. I asked what about selling a house made parts last 7 years less than if it stayed with the original owner. I was told that that's now how parts worked that they should still last as long no matter who owned it, but if it failed it just wasn't their problem anymore. Any installer that isn't willing to stand behind the manufacturer's warranty or is looking for a way to not take care of their own install is not worth the time. I would recommend purchasing your unit from a different installer who is willing to stand behind their product. read more

As we're staring down 2022's first week over 90 degrees, I am glad I worked with The Heat Pump Store to install a mini split already. Rhonda came out to my house at the start of April. (By the way, Rhonda is awesome - she was helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, and reachable throughout the process.) We checked to make sure my layout and electric panel would work for the unit we were thinking of, and she let me know which ones were on sale right now. It was not a high pressure sale which I always appreciate. I signed and submitted a 50% deposit on April 2nd. Install happened on May 31st. The Heat Pump Store installer came by as well as an electrician they partner with. Both were courteous, quick, and did a quality install job. They were here from maybe 9-3pm, with the interior work done in the first two hours or so. I think there are companies who might have had a faster turnaround for the install. I also think there may be ones who could do it for less if I had spent more time getting bids (the bill was around $4000). But The Heat Pump Store made it easy to work with them and I'm very pleased with the result. I think some form of air conditioning is essential in Portland nowadays, and the heat function of this mini split will be way more energy and cost efficient than my wall heaters in winter. read more

Installing this heat pump in my present house is number five in three houses, and I will always try to fit one in where ever I can! That said, The Heat Pump Store is the company to go with! They were less expensive than my local place, and the quality of pump is better than the previous one I was offered, from the other place. Houses in my neighborhood tend to have loft spaces that are under heated/cooled, and neither the wall heater, nor the window AC unit, were doing any effective heating or cooling. The furnace heat never reached the loft, and I had to curtain off the door so that the cold did not come down into the living room in the winter. The heat in the summer was so stifling that my beautiful finished loft was really only usable in spring and autumn. Now I have a beautiful, quiet, easily maintained unit that I can change with a handy remote. The crew was great and the work very efficient. I highly recommend The Heat Pump store! read more

this company is fabulous. i found Rhonda at a home renovation show at the Memorial Coliseum about three years ago. Had a heat pump installed in my floating home. the work was done quickly and efficientl. a little hiccup with a leak the first summer but it was fixed right away. I had my first yearly inspection and they cleaned and said it looked great. They offer a prepaid yearly inspection that gives me a discount on the price. This years inspection was to be in September but I saw their truck for a neighbor fix and asked if they could service my unit that day also. a big YES and I am happy to be done for this year...again with no problems found. Disappointed with our new heat pumps. We like everyone who we interacted with at the heat pump store, and I do believe that most of the time they probably knock it out of the park. But in our situation we were told the job would take one day and it wound up taking three. We had issues with the workers leaving a bunch of tools and a big mess to clean up in our bedroom. And in the end we really dont like our new heat pump system, even if it was installed correctly, it is just really annoying to use. Two reasons: first, to switch the system from heat to cool I have to go to four different rooms of the house. Second, we are not supposed to put our units in "auto" mode, we can only use heat or cool. If we do, our heat pumps turn off and I have to flip the breaker to turn them back on. They have explained the technical reason why this happens to us and I understand it, but I wish I would have known about this before the job started, I would have chosen to install a different system. For us this was a massive expense with a very disappointing outcome. They did offer us a small discount (around 3% of what we paid), so I guess for that I'm leaving 2 stars instead of 1. read more

extremely disappointed in Heat Pump store. the intial visit was good. then when the technician was to return to repair my heat pump. he was to be here beteew 8-12 he called at 11 said he would not do the repair. my heat pump is leaking he said buy a new unit or have the lines replaced. could be a loose fitting but he was not willing to remove the unit from the wall to check. he would not come out to see if it was a simple repair. I got the feeling the tech did not want to do the work. read more

Very poor communication from this company (with their own electrician and installers, with my HOA siding contractors, and with myself) resulting in the need for multiple installation rescheduling. Unprofessional behavior. The installers played loud music on my patio during installation. On one occasion, the salesman Earl rang my doorbell and then entered my home before I had a chance to answer the door. On multiple occasions he came in from the rain and walked all over my brand new carpet with his shoes on. Then Earl accidentally CC'd me on an email in which he was badmouthing me. I gave one extra star because the electrician was great and the office ladies were friendly. read more

We needed to make some changes in our home. Our upstairs has two aging, under-performing gas furnaces that cover nine rooms and a long hall with vaulted ceilings (About 2600 sq ft.). We needed a better heating solution as well as FINALLY adding air conditioning to our upstairs living area. We got several bids on differing solutions, all of which suggested a $25K to $30K expenditure. We then contacted Todd Hutchens at The Heat Pump Store. Todd arrived and did a thorough assessment of our requirements and offered a solution that we had not considered. We didn't know about ductless heating and cooling, but Todd explained how it all works, answered all of our endless questions, made a recommendation, and offered us a very reasonable cost. We decided that we liked what he had to say and bought a Panasonic 36K BTU multi-unit outdoor compressor with a 24K BTU indoor wall unit and a 15K BTU wall unit for the master bedroom. Installation was on time and finished excellently. So far, our new system is performing flawlessly. It is very quiet and keeps our rooms temperatures wonderfully warm. February was 28 degrees outside while our house remains at a very comfortable 70 degrees. Our old gas furnaces have remained completely idle since our installation. We are amazed at how much range these units offer and the extremely low maintenance needed. From start to finish The Heat Pump Store gave us an excellent product, excellent service and very professionally installed. If you are seeking a new heating/cooling system, look no further. read more

I called needing help with my heating and cooling for my Tiny House. They were incredible. It's a small space and they gave me great advice on system I needed. They set me up with the smallest unit even though they could have recommended something larger and more expensive. There were two technicians both were friendly and respectful. I couldn't ask for a better customer service and I love the system they installed! The best part is the system also has a dehumidifier setting which is very important for a tiny house. One star because "dead customers don't pay." At least, that is what the electrician said while fixing an electrical cable the installers cut and left hanging in the wall. Long story short, after I noticed the cut cable I had to make 2 calls to them to get them to send an electrician out to fix it (1 call should have been enough), but the electrician who came was enthusiastic and on top of the situation which was reassuring. They were on the 5-star track pre-install - I had 4 different quotes and Heat Pump Store was by far the most thorough quote--all had comparable prices. Other sales folks came out, looked for 5 min, and gave a quote. The Heat Pump sales person measured, talked through where I wanted the cable chases, indoor units, outdoor unit, and even recommended against a basement unit (don't give me something I don't need!). There were still at 4-star after the install. The installers and electrician did a great job following directions from the sales guy regarding location for units and runs. The indoor units run like a dream, the outside unit is nearly silent even running full blast (my computer is louder!). A few misses to lose that star: They were "too busy" to paint the cable chase covers to match exterior paint, so I will need to get an extension ladder up to the 3rd floor to do that. I need to patch a hole in the eves they missed which must have been for the PVC drain line and a bit of plaster from re-running the cut electrical line. They also walked off with my 3-prong, 50' extension cable. After fixing the electrical line no one followed-up to see if everything else was going well or apologized for the live, cut wire in the wall. I called twice to leave feedback to the owner (good and bad) but both times the owner was too busy to take my call. In the end I have to give a 1-star for, at best, a dangerous oversight and, perhaps more accurately, gross incompetence. Despite the one-star rating I would recommend them because of the thoughtful and reassuring pre-install planning and installers executing on that plan. However, this may just highlight the sad state of thoughtful customer service among other HVAC companies in the area. read more

Rhonda was wonderful, going through all the various options to achieve what I needed, but ultimately left it to me to decide what was best. (No sales pressure.) I did have 3 other companies come make quotes* but Heat Pump Store was by far the best price, even when some of the other companies were spec'ing the exact same units. I found myself correcting other salespeople who didn't seem to know the products they were selling very well. *Rhonda was able to come out and take a look around about 3 weeks earlier than all the other companies as well - and that was super helpful! read more

I had researched mini splits for awhile and got quotes from 3 different places. One was extremely high, and the heat pump store and another company were pretty much the same, so their prices are very competitive. I went with the Heat Pump Store because Brian provided me with a lot of options, and ultimately the better deal. He convinced me that what I originally wanted was too much for my house, and suggested a cheaper alternative that has worked absolutely perfect for my house. Comparing to last winter, I've noticed a $50-$60 dollar savings in electricity for the same month, and it was never as comfortable, temperature wise, as it is now with the mini-split unit. read more

We bought a heat pump through the Heat Pump Store in December to heat/cool our garage which has been converted into a work space. I am so impressed with everyone along the way, but especially Rhonda who was our representative. At first I was skeptical that a heat pump would work in a room that lacks really good insulation and that has concrete floors, but Rhonda reassured me that it would warm the space very well, and she was right. It is simply amazing. She was super helpful and very communicative, and has been very receptive of my questions after the installation. The installation was quick and seamless. I'm definitely a heat-pump convert, and I've only used the heating function. I can't wait to try the cooling in the heat of the summer. read more

They strive to be as user friendly as possible. When the Heat Pump Store could not keep a scheduled appointment for my annual maintenance, they came on Saturday so I wouldn't have to use more vacation time for this service. Early on, when my heat pump suddenly quit working, they came out pronto and rectified the problem which was caused by an electrician cutting off power to the unit. We had them install two units in our home. From the begining they did not do what we asked. They put the lines for the unit running right down the middle of the house. It looked terrible. The fan they ordered was too small. After the third time having Earl come out he agreed. That was Oct, we got the unit in June. And now it January and the new fan still is not in! Earl keeps saying he'll make it out... ummm when. I am beyond disappointed in this company, and their empty promises. read more

We had a heat pump installed in our upstairs bedroom because we have an old house and it is difficult to control the temperature upstairs. Our experience with the Heat Pump Store could not have been better. The whole team, from booking to install, was knowledgeable and efficient. They were thorough and made sure we wouldn't hit any snags on the install day, so they set up to have an electrician take a more thorough look at our electrical panel. Luckily, it wasn't a problem, but it made me feel more confident that they were going to do what was best for our home and not cut any corners. Then on install day they were on time, kind, and the job was done in just under 6 hours. We got quotes from a few places and this ended up being the best value and the best team. We have an annual maintenance contract for our heat pump. Fortunately we haven't had a problem with it yet but part of the contract includes an annual maintenance check and cleaning to make sure everything is working fine. The technicians that visit to do the work are professional, knowledgeable and friendly.
