Snowy weekend. Staying on property. Planning on ordering pizza. We opted to eat at Hilltop. We should have stuck to pizza! The good: - Takes reservations - good food options - probably a good view (it was too dark to tell) The bad: - It doesn't feel like a restaurant. It feels like some extra space they just set up like a restaurant. - Asked if they put croutons in the cesar salad. She didn't have an answer but i requested them. No croutons delivered, waitress never said anything. (I would have changed my order.) - Asked for extra dressing. It was delivered on the side. Odd? - My families meals arrived at the table and I still didn't receive my soup. I started to question if they forgot it as I sat watching everyone else eat. Soup arrived and like 3 minutes later my meal. - The French onion soup, where was the bread? The ugly: - The service. Our waitress Jasmine was new, which I can be empathetic towards but once we told her a few issues she was not apologetic. Also, found out she was new from another server we had to flag down to get out check as Jasmine disappeared. We told her all the issues and they did not apologize or send a manager our way to work it out. We did not get our waters refilled nor did we get second drinks (I was so thirsty!) Resort restaurants are usually pretty disappointing, but I was pleasantly surprised. Tavern food so they have the kind of things you would expect - fish and chips, burgers, nachos, etc. Really generous portions which is nice. We had... - Philly cheesesteak: honestly quite happy with this. Had it with the onion rings (can also do fries, sweet potato fries, or cole slaw). Onion rings are from scratch. Soft bread and not too greasy - fish and chips: the fish is a full haddock fillet. Not as meaty as we would have liked, but like that it doesn't feel like we're getting fish and chips from a box. Stayed at Steele Hill Resort for 2 nights as part of a promotion to attend a purchase into Path Vacations. We went to the Saturday brunch and arrived at 9:30am. Cost was $18pp. There was various hot options but is was all old tasting, hard French toast, rubbery sausage and bacon, hash browns hard and stale. Pretty much like dog food, which I told the agent we met with at the presentation, who could care less. Our bill was $50, will never recommend it to anyone. Went to the bar by the indoor pool area. Bartenders were awesome and drinks great, but the pizza which came from the same restaurant was just ok. $18 for a small pizza, quite forgettable in flavor, sausage pepper onion w minimal toppings too, rip off. read more

We reserved a table with a view but when we arrived were told it was going to be awhile and not to bother waiting. After we seated, all of the tables (5-6) which were window side opened ...There was nothing special about the food and seemed to rely on frying most things. The onions soaked up the fryer oil and the sauce that came with, we were told, came out of squeeze bottle (a little off putting to learn.) Service was extremely slow. We all ordered iced tea and were later told it couldn't be served as they had taken the tea maker off for the rest of the night which seemed an odd choice to do during the dinner rush. We stayed at the Steele Hill Resort and walked to this restaurant after a long day of traveling. The food was good and the service was great. We both had the New England Clam chowder to start and it was delicious. We both also ordered the Chicken Parmesan and found it to be quite good. We also ate at the breakfast brunch on Sunday and found the food to be quite tasty. There was a variety of food including fruit, pastries and the usual breakfast foods such as eggs and bacon. read more

The pizza is good, as are the tenders. The rest of the food is hit or miss, bonus is if your staying there you don't have to leave and they will bring it to your room. I'd give this place negative stars if I could. The worst, overpriced Caesar salad I've ever had. Not romaine, shredded iceberg with shaker cheese, shaved cheese, and not one crouton. Bag salad from the grocery store is far superior. The steak tips were overcooked. The service was horrible and the girl accidentally charge my card for the wrong table. We are staying until Tuesday and will not visit the restaurant. We tried the market, the bread was moldy and snacks were expired. Quality control desperately needs to be improved. read more

My wife and I went up to SteeleHill resort for a two night stay over Mother's Day weekend. We spent the second night in agony after getting food poisoned at the Hilltop restaurant on the property. We ate exclusively there during our stay- so the source is undeniable. I complained to the person at checkout and they simply said they would have someone from the restaurant call me. Forced to stand in a tiny lobby with a ton of other pissed off people that then turned their frustration on the poor hostess. That's not fair. Based on a lot of the lower-rated reviews, I wasn't expect much from our meals there. My wife and I were both pleasantly surprised by their Easter Brunch and dinner on a weeknight. The chicken parm was tasty and cooked well. My wife's Mac and cheese with pulled pork was tasty, as well. Easter brunch was overall well-delivered on all dishes. It is a bit on the pricey side but I can't fault them for that. It's a "hotel" restaurant with really great views and a good 15+ minutes from anything else besides a pancake house. read more

Worst service we have had here tonight. Had to keep asking the front desk to find our waitress and even after that 5+ minutes. Steak wasn't evenly cut so 1/3 off it was way over cooked, leather when medium rare was ordered for a $29 steak. I would have told the waitress it was over cooked but she never came to ask how the food was. Left overs were a true doggy bag. Then she dropped a $200 bill off at our table of two. Apparently she thought we were going to pay for all her tables! We had to go to the manager to get it fixed! read more

I ate here twice this weekend. Friday night Delmonico steak and crab cake was ok . Not bad. It was decent but very simple. But overall service was good and it was a decent steak but the server really didn't know the menu. She knew what was on it but wasn't familiar with the actual food as she never tried any of it. That's on whomever runs the restaurant not on her. Staff should know the food they are serving. Its real simple when they are hired they need to fast the menu items so they know what they are selling. Fast forward to day 2. I never do buffets so shame on me I know better. Haddock way over cooked. Prime rib was really Choice beef poorly prepared and tough. Cheesecake was like playdo. Server left us waiting for 25 minutes before taking our order. Service stayed this way all the way through. She gave us the excuse that she normally bartends not wait on tables. Poor excuse. I ate here because it was convenient because we were staying here. Very consistently awful service augmented by mediocre food. Right now I sit here waiting for waitstaff to serve us after 10 to 15 minutes for Sunday brunch. It is remarkable because the place is buzzing with staff but we have been ignored since sitting down. When we ate here 2 nights ago the high school kid who was our waiter didn't have a CLUE about anything at the restaurant or how to be a waiter (except maybe at McD's). Having given up hope of being served, we have left without eating, so now I can finish the review... The food has been just OK. Had the special Prime Rib which the server knew nothing about (fortunately we had been told about it, as it's not on the menu) which was decent but not worth going out of your way for. We pretty much had to serve ourselves wine after ordering a bottle. The place itself tries to be too many things: a wedding venue, a hotel, a resort destination, a timeshare, condos and rentals. It is isolated, being about 5-6 miles from civilization down some traditionally crappy NH roads, so leaving for anything is a PITA. This isolation I suppose means that they have a captive audience and can survive on that basis alone. However, there isn't much to do here. Yes there is a pool, but the lakes are miles away down steep hills. The view is OK when the clouds have parted at around 9 AM but that's it. I think we'd have been better off staying at a hotel closer to the lakes (and decent restaurants and attractions) and just coming over for the wedding we're going to instead of staying here. We stayed at the resort and got room service. We ordered a couple appetizers, the spinach artichoke dip, and the sampler. We both did not like the food at all. Very old chips, dip had no flavor, and the sampler which was cheese quesadillas, chicken fingers, and mozzarella sticks seemed to be a bit over priced at $18. The people at the next table waited at-least ten minutes for their drinks from the bar staff. the server remembered to refill the drinks of the other three guests at our table but forgot to refill my glass of water. They were out of sour cream for the nachos which has happened before (but they compensated by giving us free guacamole) Two of the dishes at our table were supposed to come with bbq sauce. The kicker is when our servers gave us our bill and instead of giving us a standard pen to sign the receipt with, she handed my boyfriend her dab pen (which for older folks is a kind of smoking device usually used for marijuana wax or oil.) My son was taking me to this place for Easter as this was the first year that I wasn't doing dinner for Easter as my husband had just passed away. He called me on Wednesday to tell me we had reservations at 12:15. On Saturday he called to confirm and his reservation could not be found. So whoever he spoke with gave him a 11:30 reservation. We got there for 11:30 and again his reservation could not be found. We were very disappointed. Not only that we could not have brunch but with a restaurant with a so called great place to have brunch. After they had lost not only one reservation but two, I can not recommend any restaurant that does this. read more

Came here for lunch. It was not busy, so we were able to select our table. The views of the mountains are beautiful! We choice a table where we could also see the playground. My kids (9 & 8) played here while waiting for our food. Food and drinks are fine. Pricing is comparable to any hotel restaurant. You pay for convenience and views. read more

I've been here for a rehearsal dinner, wedding, breakfast, and dinner on 3 different occasions. It's not perfect but he food is definitely good and the servers are friendly, local people. I think it also stands out due to it's location and views of the lake. Brunch is a great value. As of today it was $17.95 for adults and included your standard buffet of eggs, pancakes, breakfast meat, French toast, potatoes, plus more lunch items like salmon, beef, noodles etc. and there was an omelette station, waffle station, fresh fruit, and a full dessert buffet. We are here three times on our trip. Dinner - Mary our waitress was great. $7.95 kids meals but it was a ton of food + a dessert. Fish and chips were really good. We ordered the prime rib special but wanted to substitute another veggie for the brussel sprouts that came with it. Nope. Chef wouldn't do it. Breakfast Buffet - nothing spectacular at all. I'd say the best thing was the pineapple. Sunday Brunch - it was the Saturday buffet + desserts, waffles, omelettes, lobster Mac n cheese (very good) and a cold steak n cheese egg make. Not worth the cost and certainly not the best brunch as the billboard heading in tells you. The lemon pie was good too. I think people eat there because it's convenient not because it's great. Had a surprisingly amazing meal. We sat in the bar, which I regret as there was a wedding going on the next room over, and it was loud when the door between the two was open. However we enjoyed the environment other than that. Our bartender was new, we could tell, but she did a good job being attentive and checking with the manger when she was unsure how to send something through the computer so as to not mess up our order. Our meals came out in a timely manner, I got a French onion soup which tasted amazing, and real! My boyfriend had the spinach salad which was good, nothing out of this world. For entrees he had the baked haddock, which he found delicious, and the sides to compliment were on point. I had the bone in pork chop, which was cooked perfectly with delicious complimenting sides as well. I'll admit we didn't have super high hopes for being the only food options near the resort, but we were definitely impressed. Cheers to the chefs in the kitchen last night. Oh and Deseret! We had an order of "snow balls" which was vanilla ice cream rolled in graham cracker and Oreo crumbs. Yummy! Definitely the right ending to the meal. read more

Made a reservation at the hilltop restaurant. When my party got there, we were told 15 minutes would be our week for our table. We were understanding and took a seat at the bar for a drink while we waited. After about 25 minutes went by, we went to check with the hostess to see how much longer it would be. She said-and I quote- "It's going to be a while". This was strange since we had a reservation to begin with. We sat there for about 15 more minutes and decided to order our appetizers from the bartender (who was running around like crazy due to understaffing- not blaming him, I actually felt quite bad for him). We were seated @ 830pm @ a table in the dining room. We sat there until 850pm until we realized no waitstaff were coming and we were exhausted and starving at this point. I have been a wait staff person myself so in no way am I blaming the staff for the understaffing of this restaurant. I do, however, have a problem with the fact we were seated an hour late for a reservation & the 2 waitstaff who were in the dining room had 2 tables each (super easy to deal with) & never looked our way. Also, if you can't handle a reservation system or know you are understaffed and may have trouble holding said reservation, don't take them-do FCFS if you must. Very disappointed. read more

I would give this restaurant a 5 for the beautiful views of the lakes and a 2-3 for the food. My husband and I shared the artichoke dip for an appetizer. For dinner, he had the steak special with mashed potatoes and I had the crab stuffed sole special with a side Caesar salad. The presentation of all of the food was awesome. Unfortunately, the flavor was seriously lacking. Everything that we ate seemed to be missing something. We did have an excellent Apple cobbler dessert that I would highly recommend. read more

As someone that has worked in the restaurant business for about 12 years and a professional food critic for 5, I have to say that this was one of my worst experiences. A friend of mine was staying at Steele Hill Resorts this past weekend and invited me to dine with him while I was there. The hostess didn't smile, first strike. Our waitress took 20 minutes to get to us, strike two. The food was mediocre; at a resort in NH, I expected a lot more. The presentation was less than desirable and the flavors were just not there. The food was cold and way overpriced for the quality. We asked to speak to the restaurant manager while we were seated. I saw him pass through our section, if you can call it that, 3 times, once he even had eye contact with me. He never came over to our table. We decided to check out the "tavern" while we were still there. The bartender was not knowledgeable in the drinks I asked for. He was busy flirting with the waitresses and clearly had better things to do than wait upon a paying customer. If I could rate this experience as I would truly like to, there would be no stars. Since I have to choose a star in order to voice my opinion, I am giving it 1 star. The owners of Steele Hill Resorts are on point in many areas of their beautiful resort. The restaurant brings their potentially 4 star resort to a place I will never visit again. There are many other places that I would much rather visit in NH. read more

Terrible food. I ordered Medium Well Filet and it got Extra Rare. I will never Eat here AGAIN. All the other tables hot bad food to. Worst Location. Do not go If you are allergic to cats, because a cat roams the place. A Extra Small Shake was $8.00 and it tasted thin and gross. The only thing that is good is the view of The Lake. They give you a 10 dollar discount here. And after going I can see why. The place is nice but the food doesn't fall in line with the looks. There was one other group of two there and as we walked in the waiter greeted us and immediately after he walked away the other couple warned us not to get the oysters! So we got the calamari thinking not much can go wrong. But we were were wrong. The calamari didn't even taste like calamari. It tasted like old olives as they were drowned in olives. To eat we ordered he bison burger which was great. No complaints. And the seafood scampi which was literally was some angel pasta drowned in a watery liquid. It honestly looked like a seafood noodle soup. It was extremely bland with no taste. And we had to load it up with pepper and salt to get some what of some flavor but it had no taste of anything. read more
