Hashbrowns were good. Biscuits and gravy was a big let down. I honestly think store bought grands are just as good. Nothing exciting here. Gravy had very little taste. Great home feel vibe along with old fashion cooking. Looks old and beat out but the quality of food is fresh made to order. Staff was friendly and attentive. Had the sausage, egg and cheese with a side of hash browns and toast. The hash were crispy on top and soft on the bottom which was great for me. The side toast went well with the rest of my food, was buttery and toasted enough to not make them hard. The 3 year that was with me enjoyed the 2 pancakes we got for him, said they were fluffy and good. My niece got the #3 combo I believe it was. Waffle, sausage and eggs. She said the waffle was crispy and buttery that after she was done with all her food, it put her in a food coma according to her who said she was sleepy. I came here after reading the reviews. My wife and I had breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it. The flavor and portions were awesome and the coffee was superb. Excellent food at a great price. The best part was the service. Our waitress was sweet, intelligent and attentive. She is a college student studying hotel and restaurant management. I'm sure one day she will own a business. Fantastic breakfast place. What it is doing in the middle of a light industrial park I have no idea. I would want this place in my neighborhood - preferably a block from my house. Great biscuits. Huge servings of fine versions of the breakfast standards. A more than respectable huevos rancheros (establishing once and for all this dish is now texas-standard food and not just mexican food) One note - this is one of the few places I have seen in Texas that offers liver and onions and eggs as a breakfast dish. Another confirmation of the fundamental rule that if a kitchen offers alt-meats on the menu, the whole kitchen tends to be good. A fine establishment. read more

This place is a dive, true, but I generally like dives. Yet this one was unpleasant for me. The restaurant was dirty and poorly maintained. The service from the hostess and waitress was excellent. They charge for coke refills which always irritates me. I had hamburger sautéed in onions and mushrooms. The burger was tiny, burnt and dry. The eggs were fine. They promote their daily baked cornbread, so much ordered it, and what got were two corn muffins that were soggy inside. Not a great place. read more

What you see is what you get. This is a no nonsense, hole in the wall kind of place that has been consistent since I started coming here. The prices have increased a little bit over the past year or so, but I can't blame them since food costs are on an upward trend. They don't stay open beyond lunch, but I strongly advise to keep this a breakfast-only place. I tried their lunch once and was really underwhelmed. It was comparable to school cafeteria food. As for breakfast, I recommend all of their omelets! They fill up half the plate and they don't skimp on the cheese or filling. The egg is always cooked perfectly, too. Some omelets come with salsa on the side. I don't know what it is about their salsa, but I love it. It's fantastic with eggs! The reviews for this cafe are what drew us to the location to try it out. I strongly think that we will not be returning. The restaurant needs some touch up. The paint on the wall in our booth was torn off and the place looked aged. They started vacuuming the rugs as we ate. We came around 12:15pm and they close at 2, which may explain why they had no cornbread, rolls, or biscuits so we were stuck with garlic toast (white bread with I am guessing butter and garlic powder or liquid on it). Drinks were big, which was good because once we got our food we never saw our server again. My wife got a pecan waffle which arrived at room temperature, about as warm as if someone waived a curling iron over it. My son and I both got chicken fried chicken with 3 sides, fries, mashed potatoes (hot as the sun), and peaches. Everything tasted fine, seemed as if it was all prepackaged, like it was bought from a food service. The chicken fried chicken on both our plates was almost exactly the same size and shape. The mashed potatoes had been pureed, white gravy was good. The steak fries were warm but flavorless. After having this same meal at Norma's Cafe, there is no comparison. Norma's CLEARLY is making their own stuff and they have never been out of anything and the pricing is the same. IDK that Heinz was actually in the ketchup container btw because it was quite a bit more tomato-y, which I liked! Server never came back to check on us after food delivery. Not feeling like a return trip will be needed, not with Meteor Hamburgers and Norma's Cafe close. read more

This is the kind of place that just blends in from the outside unless you know to look for it. Richardson locals, especially from the east side of town, love coming here. The food is decent and reasonably priced. Wait staff usually pretty attentive. It's an old building in an industrial park and the aesthetic screams working class - which is exactly what we all love about it. I'll tell you guys, my breakfast order is always the breakfast taco plate, and my go-to lunch order is a club sandwich. I just can't wait for COVID to be over so I can go back to dumping Tabasco all over my food. Right now they just give you these little packets... Anyway, this Richardson local is rambling. I love this place changing my stars from 4 to 5 because I love it so much. I live less than 5 min away from here so thats good but also bad because that means my wallet will be broke. The cashier/manager woman this morning seemed annoyed by our presence. We had a party of 9 (4 small kids (requested a high chair & a couple of boosters)) She broke us up into 2 tables as she said she doesn't like to have any big parties. Our waiter told us it was because of the City of Richardson. This was not the case and there were no fire code issues either. We were there last month with a party of 7 and they didn't allow us to sit together then as well. It seems the woman owner/manager makes up these rules on the spot. The food is good, nothing special (same as you would cook at home) and some waiters are fantastic, but many seem not happy to be there. The vicinity and quick to sat made this our go to place, but since the manager was not accommodating to us the last few times, we've decided to not return and take our business to another breakfast place nearby. This is a nice place to go and eat breakfast on a Saturday morning. I went with my daughter. This establishment had great service. My daughter ordered the 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and bacon combo. I must say this little plate was great and each item tasted delicious. I ordered a beef fajita omelette, grits, and toast. The meal was good but the fajita meat was chewy. No matter when you come in, you'll see familiar faces among the other patrons. Retro dining is chic these days and The House Café is unintentionally fashionable. The owners and staff take pride in the restaurant and upgrade and repair the furniture as needed, but the small-town diner atmosphere is familiar to anyone old enough to remember the sixties. It feels comfortable - like a pair of well-worn jeans or a flannel shirt in winter. The big draw is not the atmosphere, but the food. When I heard two references to it in one 24hr period I put it on my bookmark list to try. I had corned beef hash (very good), hash browns (very good), and scrambled eggs (good). Coffee with a side of water, both monitored and refilled by the waitstaff as needed. Dear Wife had eggs over hard, and said they were carefully cooked to ensure it really was hard. She was pleased. Now the dark side: I would say the interior is so ugly it's not even up to Country Duck standards. Duck is all about wooden ducks, faux rural touches, and that ugly light blue color that says "I'd prefer to homeschool my kids but since no one in the immediate family completed high school there is no one to teach them". I think the crap hanging on the walls was stuff left over after a garage sale. Stuff like that. Other patrons: when we were there the place was fully stocked with work crews getting ready for the morning. And Richardson's elderly. You could predict the latter from outside the place because the parking lot was slow-motion swarmed with massive domestic 80s cars, creeping along, slathered with "God bless America", "Love it or leave it!", and American flag stickers. 30.06 status: not posted. read more

I *always* get the migas because they do 'em exactly the way I like them done - perfect amount of chorizo. The waitstaff is warm and welcoming - every restaurant could learn a bit about hospitality and attentive service from these folks! This is where the regulars go -- great mix of city employees, trades-folk, retirees, tech workers, city council. The repeat business must be phenomenal -- I always see the same gang there! I had pancakes with strawberries, scrambled eggs and sausage patties, with a complimentary dinner roll or two. The pancakes were good, not fluffy but good. Strawberries were from canned preserves... Eh. Not great, not horrible. They put some whipped cream on there as well, cream was quite good. The scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked, not runny, not overcooked. Sausage was quite good as well. Their complimentary dinner rolls tasted homemade, good enough to grab another one after the first. I wouldn't seek it out unless your only other choice is a chain restaurant like Denny's. If you're from Denton, you know that Ruby's on the Square was always the best at breakfast. Always. House in Richardson gets me close! It's a hole in the wall, kinda old interior, with some deliciously greasy breakfast food. We order there once every few weeks for a mid morning brunch at work. Order on the phone then send someone as a runner and they'll be back in 20 with hot and delicious food. I appreciate that they have sugar free syrup, great $5.69 breakfast deals, and daily lunch specials. My coworker can't say no to House on Wednesday because the lunch special is meatloaf... whatever floats your boat. If you're looking for some cooking that tastes like it came from the country, go here. Waffles are fluffy and big, french toast is great, and they don't do horrible on the grits most of the time. Used to be packed with regulars and friendly conversations. Last 2 visits were a very empty place with no one greeting anyone by name. The epic search for the perfect hash browns has ended at The Happy Cafe. Personally, I like them crunchy and brown (it says they're supposed to be right in the name!) and I was not disappointed. My server was sweet and efficient. She took the time to answer my questions and was just the right amount of attentive. My omelette was okay... I built my own with bacon, cheese, tomato and onion. Nothing about it was light or fluffy - but the accompanying salsa complemented it nicely. Probably should've ordered a biscuit & gravy but I didn't want to go overboard. Overall, for a Saturday morning around 9, it was hopping! I've heard good things about this place from friends at the gym. I decided to go try it out for myself. It didn't live up to the hype but was a good bang for my buck. We had three entrees plus took two to-go orders for other family members for about $35. The entrees were very generous with three sides plus rolls and corn bread. I had ordered Friday's special which was a 4-piece fried tilapia with hush puppies, green beans, corn & salad. I have to admit that Big Mama's catfish is way better. Not only do they have more seasoning but the portion is bigger. My husband had the chicken fried steak with coleslaw, mash potatoes and corn. Pretty darn good. The chicken fried steak wasn't as big as other restaurants but it was moist and tender on the inside, crispy outside. Their menu said that their mashed potato was made fresh daily. My son had French toast with bacon and eggs. It was lunch time but they serve breakfast all day. He is a big breakfast fan. The bacon was extra crispy because it was over cooked. His eggs were cold but he didn't mind. The French toast was awesome. If you are a cinnamon fan get this. You won't be disappointed. Cinnamon was a very obvious ingredient. Frank was right about warm and friendly. The waitstaff (all hispanic, even the cooks) is über friendly. They seem to have a loyal following here. It seems the waitresses know all their customers by name and actually really care. We went around 2pm so we saw mostly senior citizens. I was told that the place draws in lots of seniors citizens, contractors and employees from all the businesses in the surrounding area. They are open for breakfast from 5am (I think) til 3pm.
