Stopped for a quick breakfast on our way to LA. 7:00am Very early breakfast which were not used to but wanted something that would hold us until we got to our destination. Not too bad but not great. Restaurant was very humid, stuffy and felt congested. Tables were clean and had very nice people working. The restaurant itself was very outdated and can use a little facelift. Food was just bland and very plain, coffee wasn't to our liking. We like our coffee bold and strong, this coffee was watered down and blonde. Not a place we'd come back to. read more

I had no idea this little gem existed until my friend took me here today. She didn't know it existed either until her friend brought her here previously. The ambiance is best described as "non-descript." It is located in a corner of a shopping center that is totally dead. There is a barber shop right next-door and Bath & Bodyworks is the only other, somewhat large, retailer in the shopping center. You can't even see it from the street let alone the actual parking lot. I did not see the sign until we were, literally, parked in front of it. We got here about 12:30 PM and the place was packed. As is the case with the most restaurants/retail, they had a "help wanted" sign posted on the front window. This made me a bit nervous. There were two servers who were fantastic! One was a very mature lady, who said she was a new, but we would've never known had she not told us. She was very attentive, "on it", and super friendly! Then there was a younger gentleman who was awesome; a millennial, unicorn! Both of these servers were hustling, constantly kept our coffee mugs and water glasses filled and gave us everything we needed (ketchup, and Tabasco!) to enjoy our meals in addition to the full house of patrons. I got two eggs over easy, corned beef hash, two slices of sourdough, and hash browns for $11.50. The portion size was just right and everything on my plate was cooked perfectly!!! With the way things are in our society today we all take a gamble coming into a restaurant, retail establishment, etc. with the expectation that service is going to be excellent and on point. Wouldn't it be nice if that was a guarantee? Large and small businesses alike are trying to retain decent staff, but the hiring pool is garbage. Today, my gamble paid off! read more

We didn't avoid the heat as the place didn't have any AC on, so as we were there it kept getting hotter inside. Since they had "land if the free because of the brave" decor everywhere, we thought they may give mil discount, my husband asked, and they said no. Overall, the server was polite, seems like a place that has its established local regulars as the servers seemed to know most customers by name. Everything felt off. Our server genuinely seemed to not like us. It felt like we were annoying her anytime we needed something. Other servers were nicer to us than her. She left the table in the middle of our order to say bye to someone leaving. She did not care to chat with us one bit while chatting with other people at other tables. We had to flag her down if we needed anything which I hate doing as a former server and would have preferred to ask for something when she checked on us, but she did not. The food was not good at all, neither was the coffee. For $50 for 3 people I much prefer other diners in the area. I was honestly shocked at the bill and would not consider going back. Fantastic breakfast and service. My first time here. Woody said he'd been here a few times and had great meals. Unfortunately we arrived 20 minutes before the posted 7am open and decided to wait. They saw us, opened early and invited us in. That was a very nice gesture! I love breakfast and have a few favorites: Eggs Benedict; biscuits and gravy; eggs, hash browns and bacon. I ordered the latter over easy and sourdough toast. Eggs and bacon were so hot when placed on the table I had to let it cool a bit. 4 slices of bacon were done to perfection. Coffee was good and regularly topped off. I was puzzled to see the waitress move a two person table slightly and take a chair away. Then I noticed the couple heading toward the entrance, one pushing the other in a wheelchair. The waitress had anticipated their needs perfectly. I went here with my lovely wife and we weren't sure what we were getting into. It was a very pleasant surprise for us both. The serving staff were very professional and friendly. The food over the top and the ambiance was like an old fashion diner, it was nice. The restrooms are through an exit door and there are two, one for the restaurant and one for the barber shop next door. Saturday morning. Awoke wanting a waffle and some link sausage. Perused YELP and the waffle/sausage reviews were appealing. So, off I go. I ordered the sausage/Belgian waffle/egg combo and asked if I could substitute the egg for fruit. I was told that I get an extra sausage for the egg but not fruit. Okay. I took the extra sausage and ordered a side of fruit. Sorry I didn't take photos after taking the photo of the disgusting top of the creamer. (See picture) The waffle was a dark as opposed to light brown. The sausages were skinny, non-porky tasting, mushy, and very bland. I don't know what kind of syrup they used but it had a sharp after taste that was very unpleasant. The fruit portion was generous. It contained a few grapes, some banana slices, honey dew and cantaloupe. The coffee was hot and offered frequently. The venue itself is pleasant enough. It's in the corner of a barely-hanging-on mall. The waitstaff was pleasant and there seemed to be a lot of regular customers. And that's what it's all about for me. I won't return but if you like it, far be it for me to discourage. If you don't have enough pride to clean the top of your creamer before giving it to a guest, I have to wonder what else may not be so clean? read more

After not having carbs for such a long time I gave in to temptation of bread and hashbrowns. Oh yeaah....sooo good. I got my gravy on the side, personally I don't like it all over everything it I love this unique breakfast. This morning my daughter and I came here with my sister and her boyfriend, by their suggestion and I was pleasantly surprised! The restaurant is decorated very vintage, which is right up my alley and for the fall season, they really went all out! I decided on their Monte Cristo with country potatoes to split with my daughter and a cup of fruit for her. She loved them both! The Monte Cristo was delicious and satisfied my sweet craving, I love their warm maple syrup they leave on the table to pour your own on top of the powdered sugar, the melty gooey cheese, flavorful ham, mm! Their country potatoes, so good, dang they give you half a plate full, I couldn't finish them all!! The waitress mentioned the watermelon in my daughter's fruit cup came fresh from her garden and they always strive to bring in fresh produce to their customers! I have had breakfast at least 5 times in the last few months, that the staff know me by face. I like that this friendly little cafe has lots of options of foods for the big appetite and the small. I usually meet my son and family here on a Sunday or Saturday morning and we get a chance to talk and have a nice breakfast meal together. I usually order the country fried steak and eggs with cheese. The 4 year old granddaughter always gets her chocolate milk with her pancakes and fruit. The teenager usually opts for a low calorie meal like a no carbs type of thing. This hidden jewel has been around the town of Carmichael since I was a kid. The original owner used to own the house that I now live in and her husband used to own the barber shop right next door. My wife and were looking for a new spot near where we were and this place came up. Walking in I enjoyed the decorating of the place. Upon walking in they said it was open seating. The place was pretty packed and it was Wednesday. The waitress was quick to take our drink order and I asked about the biscuits and gravy. She said it was really good and it was part of the special that came with 2 eggs 2 bacon and 2 sausages.Ok sold! My wife ordered the bacon and tomato omelette. It didn't take long for for the food to come out which say to me not a lot was not prepared fresh. The bacon and sausages you could tell had be sitting and warmed up they were just ok. The biscuits and gravy were also just ok. My wife said he omelet was good. It was very full of ingredients and very tasty. Our glasses were not left empty and the wait staff was very friendly. Came here for breakfast with a friend. It's a small cafe tucked in the corner of a dying strip mall on Manzanita Ave/Winding Way in Carmichael. When entering the restaurant, saw tables outside for patio dining, some tables in the front of the kitchen and some tables in the next room so overall a spread out place to eat. I got the special of the day which was "Larry's Scrambled". It was on two slices of sourdough bread, topped with eggs and gravy with country potatoes on the side. It was good. Love supporting local joints so opted to stop by here for a mid-week breakfast. I won't be back, and here's why: Ordered the "Hungry Scramble" with side of biscuit + gravy and received a plate of food that was pretty bland and uninspired. Portion size was okay (was honestly expecting more from a diner) and the food tasted okay but nothing special. Sprinkled on top was cold, shredded cheese. And no gravy as requested with my biscuit. Even worse: no one was masked. I know Sac County recently lifted the mass mandate, but it would've expected at least staff to have the courtesy of wearing masks. Even better, the table next to me was filled with older gentlemen talking right-wing politics very loudly and vocally, showing support for the Canadian trucker blockade (ha) and even suggesting that Trudeau was the illegitimate son of Fidel Castro (ha ha - really?!?) What a shame. I used to like stopping by this place every once in a while but will move my business over to Cricket's Country Kitchen or a chain instead going forward. read more
