Some of the best food in Juneau, fairly pricy though. The steak or chicken pesto sanwiches are always awesome, and the orzo salad is my absolute favorite. The tomato soup is some of the best I've ever eaten and the focaccia bread is superb. The salmon dip is extremely tasty, I like mine with a little extra red onion. The spinicopita is light and fluffy, oh so good. Don't get me started on the pizza, most of them are super good. The only complaint is the staff, while friendly, are not super observant and tend to disappear. It can also be extremely loud and a little crowded at times, so To Go is sometimes the best. But if you can get a window seat, the view is spectacular. read more

Poor service and good food. Like the rest of Juneau it is hard to find good service. I do like coming back because the price is good and the food is better, it always takes sometime before I return because of the poor service. I have only had a few good servers here and both have left. It is a Juneau thing that servers think that they never have to check back with you and make sure everything is going well. It is not that they were too busy to have good service since I have been here lots of times when it is just a few tables having food. I have been here at least 20 times in the two years I lived in Juneau. It is in my top five for the city but it is the service that bring the stars down. read more

Mmmmm, pizza....with a view! Large panoramic windows provide a fabulous backdrop of the steep avalanche chutes that line the channel between downtown Juneau and Thane, as well as some light in the intimate and otherwise dim dining area of the pub. Dark Mediterranean colors and metallic accents make the atmosphere classy yet casual, and the entire place appears to be kept up quite well. Inside, there are plenty of tables, an attractive bar, and off to the side a glimmering wood pizza oven that gives their pizzas that authentic traditional flavor. And that is what these folks capitalize on in the Pub. Pizza. And beer. And great customer service. Their pizza is well-crafted, with a thin, crispy crust and a good proportion of ingredients. I personally like my crusts thick, and I wish they would offer different types of crusts as they do with their sauces (five to choose from as I write this). Their marinara sauce served both as a great pizza base and a dipping sauce. I'll have to be adventurous and "build-my-own-pizza" with the BBQ sauce base next time. Their pizzas are reasonably priced (for Juneau standards) and I left with some leftovers despite the pizza having a thin crust. Delicious, with great atmosphere. A friend who lives in Juneau pointed out this place as the only "nice" restaurant in town that isn't overpriced for tourists. It's across the bridge from downtown Juneau on Douglas Island and serves a mix of local families and slightly rowdy groups of friends. It's mostly a pizza place, and they do good work! I question the number of pizzas that have BBQ sauce instead of pizza sauce or pesto, but they'll let you customize. We had the hummus and salmon spread as appetizers - the salmon was delicious, but the hummus was a little ashtray-tasting. The Commodore, meat special with bacon, and Totally Italian pizzas were all amazing. We held the meat on the Commodore and subbed tomato sauce instead of BBQ on the meat, and they were very accommodating. Good beer selection, too! One downside: On a Friday night, the little parking lot was full, as was street parking for three blocks around. We waited forever for a table for 8 - because this is THE place to be (and kind of the only place to be!). read more

Wow! What a find! Like thousands of visitors to Juneau annually, we arrived by cruise ship. We rented a car in hopes of getting away from the tourists (yes, the irony of this does not escape me, but we'll ignore that for now). After hitting of the fantastic out-of-the-way areas of Juneau and surroundings, we went hunting for lunch. A search of Yelp turned up The Island Pub, so that's where we went. It being a quiet Sunday afternoon, only the bartender and a waitress were on duty, but both were very friendly and happy to help us put together seating of a party of seven. There were several families with kids there as well, so while it might be raucous in the evenings, rest assured that it's a very mellow place on a weekend afternoon. We availed ourselves of the excellent beer selection, and between the seven of us ordered three pizzas - one pepperoni pie, the Pork-a-Pine and the Napolitano Alfredo. Every one of them was excellent, and they really his the spot. Our waitress mentioned that they don't see many cruise ship visitors because of their location, but if you're visiting Juneau and have a choice for lunch or dinner, the good beer and terrific pizza make this place well worth a detour. read more

The food here is absolutely superb and consistently good. From their personal brick oven pizzas, to the sandwiches, and the appetizers it is difficult to make a decision. Some of my favorites include The Smoke Turkey Gouda Sandwich, fresh Salmon dip, Margarite Pizza, and pilaf salad. This is the best place in Douglas to get a well made drink too. The ambiance of the restaurant is quaint and quite lovely. They have a view over looking the Gastineau River and a beautiful portrait that adorns the eatery. I'm a regular at the pub who spends time there at least four to five days a week and I'd like to make a response to the last review, as it is not a complete or accurate portrayal of the establishment. As of 05/22, Alaska restaurants (and other businesses) were allowed to fully reopen. While the mandate does encourage masks, it is not required--for customers OR employees. Next, there is no more mention of party size restrictions, so if a group of adults would like to take a calculated risk and sit together, that is their right. Another thing the mandate also no longer requires a visitor log for contact tracing. As for the keen sense of observation (or lack there of) that was displayed by this patron: I witness the staff disinfecting and sanitizing the place constantly. Every pen, every check presenter, computer screens, counter tops, tables, chairs, each condiment bottle, the list goes on. And lastly, regarding the "effort by staff to ensure that [you were] disinfected when [you] came into the restaurant." --There is a hand sanitizer dispenser on the wall before you enter the building right next to the door. If this is not sufficient, there is another dispenser directly next to the inner door as well (not to mention all the bottles of sanitizer throughout the restaurant available for patrons and staff.) So, maybe stopping in for just a moment or so to pick up some food isn't enough time to really give a fair review, especially when it's difficult to see things in plain sight. It's understandable to be worried about public contact these days, but if you are this worried the best thing to do is just stay home. As for me, I will continue to spend my time at the pub knowing that they are doing the best they can with the situation. read more

Love thin crust pizzas and that is what this place is all about. Pizza skins are great. Not a lot of taps, but the beer selection still tends to be pretty awesome. I tend to steer away from the marinara sauce on pizza myself. Sandwiches are also good. Good atmosphere. Major drawback is price, particularly the price of the pizza for it's size. read more

If you're a hummus fan, they serve some as an appetizer with fresh flat bread, a little tapenade, and I usually can't eat it slowly enough. It's a smaller establishment, so be prepared for the occasional wait, or just plain crowd. It can get a little loud, but still enjoyable. It is beautifully decorated, but you won't feel out of place if you're not dressed up. It does have a full bar. My friend and I go here and every so often we share 2.... okay, some times 3 of the chocolate desserts. For the smokers, there is a separate, ventilated, and ozone cleaned smoking room, so in the winter months you don't have to huddle in the freezing cold. The pizza is worth it too. read more

When we lived in Juneau, this was our favorite place to go. A HUGE shout out to Nicole, Denise, and Izzy! The girls are awesome waitresses, and an even better people all around. Izzy is the man when it comes to bar service, and mixing skills. I say a huge raise for all of them! As far as food goes, my personal favorites are the Four Pigs pizza, and their AMAZING Salmon dip appetizer. Being sat here was a night mare in itself, since they would not take a reservation for our group. When we arrived they sat us rather efficient for how disorganized the process and host were. After being seated, in order to get our food and drink quickly, or at least before two hours after being sat, we ordered all of our drinks and food the first time the server arrived. Too bad two hours later we are still without the pizzas we ordered. We love the pizza but there is too long of a wait for the pizza that never arrives since the lack of service in this place does not match the amazing taste. read more

I want to share what I observed when picking up a take-out pizza at Island Pub yesterday. They are fully open for business. Tables are in exactly the same places they have always been, with no additional social distancing (tables are much less than 6' apart). I was wearing the only mask in the place that I could see (although I did not look in the kitchen). None of the waitstaff, bartenders or customers were masked. The place was more than three-quarters full and there was one very large group table of probably 20 people. I saw no sign that they were gathering data for contract tracing (again, I just came in for take-out so I might not have seen this). I saw no sign of measures to disinfect tables (although, again, I was not there for very long so I might have missed that). There was no effort by staff to ensure that I disinfected when I came into the restaurant. There was no effort to minimize contact during the payment transaction. Use your own judgment about your own family's safety. I won't be going there again until they get their act together, or I am effectively vaccinated. It's a shame, because they have great pizza! read more

My review of The Pub is limited by only ordering Hummus and three pizzas. The crust is as good as I've had if you like thin, crisp crust. Toppings were wonderful and not dripping off after each bite which I like. Hummus was also great. Not fancy but 5 stars for a pub like atmosphere. As a first time visitor to Juneau, I had to try this restaurant as it came highly recommended. We went on a Sunday evening around 8:30, and it was packed though the wait was short. Our party of three was first seated at a table in the bar for two though there were 4-tops available. They did allow us to move when we requested it though. Once seated at an appropriate sized table for our party, we perused the menu and made decisions. Our server was slow and not very present in the dining room. We ordered our create-your-own pizza and the spanakopita appetizer. The app was okay--nothing special. The cucumber dill dipping sauce was awesome, though. It was the redeeming quality of the app. When our pizza arrived, it seemed skimpy on toppings. Maybe it's just the style of pizza, but there should be more than 7 jalapeño slices on a 14" pie. The flavor was fantastic and I really enjoyed the crust. It was crusty on the outside and chewy inside--just about perfect. We asked for some ranch dipping sauce which wasn't delivered until we had nearly finished the meal. We sure got charged $2.50 for it though. All in all, the food was average and the service left a lot to be desired. Take out is probably the best option here if you're going to choose Island Pub at all. read more
