New on the menu: red rocks latte (anti-oxidant rich rooibos red tea & almond blended with creamy milk & vanilla). Got this in a medium & it's delicious, frothy & not overly sweet. I drank it with a warmed up store made blueberry pop tart that was surprisingly not too sweet (yay). There are a number of outlets inside and about 10 places to sit. Theres a bar area you can sit at that also has outlets. The giant stickers on them that say "OUTLETS" is a sign that people aren't aware of its hidden outlets. Parking lot is small so you'll likely need to park on the street. They sell tons of cool tea tumblers and pots. The bench area is annoying to sit on because the entire bench moves up & down when other people on the bench move. The hisbiscus apple cider iced is a great spring or summer drink. It's refreshing & not too sweet. Tastes like apple juice with a slight flowery touch. The toasted coconut oolong latte with a hint of hazelnut is also a great treat (under $4 for a medium). It is topped with sprinkles of toasted coconut and reminds me very much of a Vietnamese pudding dessert (a che). When you order in you get your drinks in cool/pretty glass cups. I tried the medium (20 oz) tea sparkler Italian style (with cream) in the black tea w/ raspberry flavor for under $4. It tasted better than I expected. I was surprised to see how milky it looked (they don't leave the cream sitting @ the top the way Italian sodas are). It is very weird to drink carbonated/sparkling cream/milk and if you look closely @ the drink it even looks like the cream & soda aren't mixing well (semi-curdling effect) but it tastes awesome. They play pretty cool music (JOSE GONZALEZ, the Shins, Maths Time Joy, Lana del Rey, the XX etc.) @ a not too loud volume so I can get work done here without putting on some headphones. Coffee shops exist everywhere in Denver and as I visit new coffee shops I think of all the ways they're different from each other and how smooth and creamy the espresso will be. Steep is located right behind the Trader Joe's on Colorado Blvd. The space is clean and uses wood as a central part of the interior design. Steep focuses largely on loose leaf tea and even though I was not having a tea on this visit I enjoyed all the aroma's coming from all the varieties available. For my initial visit I ordered a latte and was pleasantly surprised by the sweet creamy texture of the espresso and the frothy non-fat milk. This was an exceptional beverage and totally crave worthy. One thing to note is I noticed that the time it took to make my beverage was close to ten minutes with virtually no other customers in the store. I can only imagine how long it may take to receive my beverage if the store was busy. Something to keep in mind if you're in a time crunch. Steep also offers a variety of food options in their bakery case including frittata and fresh sandwiches. I'll have to partake in one of the frittatas on a future visit. Steep has won me over and will keep me coming back for some of that heavenly espresso. read more

On the penultimate day writing my CoffeeThesisProposal and I found myself in the neighborhood of Steep. I was plenty skeptical of a coffee shop right beside the madhouse that is Trader Joe's, but I figured I'd stop in for a few hours before moving on to something more satisfying. I left 10 hours later. Ten. TEN! I'm not even sure what happened. I mean, my chair wasn't even that comfortable, and it didn't feel like the right ambiance... but it's the longest I've stayed in a single coffee shop ever! Perhaps it can best be chalked up to the fact that they have a decent variety of food and some pretty fantastical tea-based beverages. Earl Grey Tea Latte? Yes, that. And, oh my, spinach and feta frittatas?! Thank you, I'm tired of burritos. Just to reiterate things: I STAYED HERE FOR TEN HOURS. If a coffee shop can make that happen, it's probably worth a visit. read more

This is a great little coffee shop! Very friendly service, clean, free Wi-Fi, and good Mocha Latte's to boot! The only downside is that due to it's proximity to Trader Joe's and Snooze and all that, parking can sometimes be a bit of a hassle. Update! Dan, the proprietor informed me that there is parking adjacent that is available for customers. Some wonky signage confused me a bit, but I'm getting older, and I can't read. Steep is conveniently located right next to Trader Joes and it provides ample parking spots in a lot located in the back of the coffee shop. It's very easy to find and even on a busy saturday morning, I didn't have problems finding parking. The inside is very modern but there aren't enough tables. I came with one other friend to study and normally this is very possible at coffee shops but I found it very difficult to study here. First of all, there is a lack of tables in the area that can accommodate two people comfortably. Also the tables are situated very close to each other so that conversations can easily be overheard. Even with my noise canceling earbuds, I can hear the women next to me talking. I understand noise is inevitable at coffee shops and sometimes you don't want complete silence but it was too difficult to even concentrate. That is why i am taking a star off this review because I wasn't able to accomplish what I went there for. They had a tons of unique drinks, however. Some that stood out were earl grey and coconut hazelnut latte. I went with the coconut hazelnut latte and was pleasantly surprised that there were actual coconut pieces floating in the latte. How unique! I really liked that drink. The hazelnut wasn't overwhelming and nor was the coconut. It was a perfect blend that was warming and even though I wasn't able to stay and study, at least I got a nice cup of coffee that helped me concentrate my studying at home. I would like to go back for the coffee but I won't go back and try to study there anymore. read more

Visited this place after driving past it a few times and I could not be happier that I did. This little coffee shop speaks to the tea lovers soul. The earl grey vanilla creme was so delicious, it puts other tea lattes to shame. The homemade strawberry pop tart was so good with a flaky crust and a delicious center. My boyfriend had to get two! This place is definitely adorable. The people are friendly and the drinks come out fast and hot (or iced if that's what you're into). I've only been here a couple times, but it's been consistently busy and tasty. Their food items are pretty limited and they don't always have the frittatas and sandwiches if you don't time it right, but you can't really go wrong with any of the snacks. One of my favorite study places in the area. Located right next to Snooze and Trader Joe's, this is the perfect place to go after Sunday brunch or a grocery trip. There is free parking behind the building. The large windows provide great lighting. There are a decent amount of tables with ample number of outlets nearby. I've always been able to find a spot to nest in for a few hours. There is also an outside patio for those sunny days. I made TWO trips to Steep within one weekend because I enjoyed my drinks so much! So far, I have tried the Red Rocks Latte & the Green Tea Latte. They were both so delicious! The flavors are so smooth and all the ingredients blend together so nicely. There was a lot of people there two out of the three times I've been here. I recently moved to the neighborhood and was overjoyed to see a tea shop! Yes, Steep does serve coffee, but their primary focus is tea, which they do superbly. Cute little shop with an extensive tea and coffee menu as well as light bites. I can't tell you how many times they've saved me in the early morning with their delicious breakfast empanadas! If you're feeling sweets, they also serve croissants, homemade pop tarts, and a variety of sweet breads. Steep isn't a huge space with limited seating, but they do have a little patio on the warmer days of the year, which helps expand the space a bit. It's been years and years since I've been here (not since it was still Steep), and I am so glad I came back (now it's Kochi Cafe)! Everything in their pastry case looked divine. I wanted something for lunch, so I got the spinach and mushroom quiche. It was warmed up for me, and it was so flavorful. The buttery crust was light and flaky and the custard was eggy and light. I got the coconut oolong tea specialty drink - it was a tea latte with coconut and hazelnut mixed into the oolong. I had it with oat milk, but their standard is whole. My sister got the açaí bowl - it looked disappointing to start with only 4 banana slices and 5 blueberries, but there was lots more fruit mixed into the açaí smoothie mixture (it redeemed itself). It was a huge helping and quite flavorful. I can't wait to go back to try the cranberry orange loaf, croissants, empanadas(!), and multitude of specialty tea drinks. read more

This is a regular stopover for me, with fellow moms to enjoy some conversation, or by myself. I LOVE the coconut oolong latte. I have cleverly figured out how to make it at home myself (or come close, anyway) yet, I still order it when I'm here. I also love the Earl Grey vanilla creme. The lattes are always great, and it's about time for me to head in there for their pumpkin spiced lattes, which are way better and hardier than the ones at that "big name" coffee chain we all know. Moving on...the staff are consistently friendly. All of 'em. A tea cafe that is truly a tea lover's dream! The space is a little bit small, but it has a great atmosphere that feels fresh and bright. The menu has an abundance of tea drinks, ranging from tea lattes and sparking tea to the classic hot cup of freshly brewed tea. There is a whole wall of tea canisters that you can choose from and customize your drink or choose anything from the menu. At this moment, my personal favorites are the toasted coconut oolong latte and the red rocks latte. Absolutely delicious without being overly sweet. Of course, with any place that serves caffeinated drinks, coffee and hot chocolate is also available. There are plenty of plug-ins and free wifi for anyone who wants to stay awhile. The bar in the middle of the space (which includes outlets and coat hangers!) is a nice touch, especially when the tables get full rather quickly on a busy day. I have had this place on my list for a bit because it looked like they had a lot of tea options. And I was not disappointed! A row of freshly brewed teas, arranged from highest caffeine content (e.g. Yerba Matte) to herbal caffeine-free made it easy to visually choose. I was going to do a plain iced tea, upon explaining that I am both dairy- and sugar-free, but the very friendly barista assured me that she could accommodate. She recommended the Red Rocks latte, made with rooibos, oat milk and sugar-free vanilla syrup. It was quite tasty. Plus, the space looked like it could be good for creative writing (one of my jams when I'm not working or yelping)...there were a few people there on laptops, so I may have to return. read more

My go-to place before hitting the AMC theater across the street. Usually have a croissant or quiche with a drink. Depending on my mood it could be a Kochi cooler, or simply an iced Chai or coffee during the summer months, or a hot coffee drink during the cooler days. Always different staff when I'm there, but everyone is friendly. Went here for the first time today to study. I liked the natural light, comfy booths and delicious empanadas. A homeless gentleman came in, asked the price of a banana, then started counting coins and they gave him the banana instead of charging him. They made some small talk and treated him like a human being. I already liked this place because it's a good coffee shop, but I love this place now because they have heart. After a hearty breakfast down the street, we stopped by Steep Tea & Coffee to try to relive our fave dirty chai from the day before (at another place... we should've known). My boyfriend and I both ordered the Chai Latte and as chai lattes go, they were good. They did their job and had that chai kick to them. But they just weren't the best. The ambience was nice inside, though. A few people busily typing on their computers sipping hot drinks and a couple of super comfy leather arm chairs in one corner. I could have fallen asleep. I am a pretty devoted tea drinker and I was on the hunt for a nice tea joint close to my home that didn't involve a very large chain. I love being able to support local businesses that support my addictions. I absolutely LOVE that the majority of their menu are teas. When I go to a cafe I usually only have 5 teas to pick from and the rest of the menu are different varieties of coffee. They have 30 different loose leaf teas on top of the special teas they make on their menu. I am usually a loose leaf tea drinker and really like the raw, original tastes of tea leaves. However, I hadn't seen such an interesting selection in tea before so I opted for their very popular Earl Grey vanilla cream. Now, the only tea I drink with cream in it is Chai, so I wasn't sure how this would taste. Let's just say I had a little bit of a tea-gasm. I could still taste the earl grey tea, but it had just the right amount of sweetness and creaminess to not overwhelm my pallet. I finished this cup of tea in one sitting (I am one of those extremely slow drinkers) and it made me wish I ordered a larger cup. This is a very cozy, intimate shop and it is the perfect place to sit and read a book or meet up with an old friend over a cup of tea. I also like the fact there is parking in the back for tea lovers convenience. The staff is also extremely friendly and helpful in explaining their tea options. I will definitely be finding excuses to come back because I have officially dubbed this place my tea heaven close to home. read more

I had the exact same experience as another person who recently posted a 1 star review. I was a big fan of Kochi cafe but on 11/28 I felt harassed and uncomfortable. I have been to this location so many times and have brought friends and family here and have bought plenty of gift cards! On this particular day I decided to catch up on some homework. As I got settled in I got focused on my assignments and lost track of time (30 min) . The worker behind the desk came up to me and asked if there was anything she could get me and I told her not at the moment. About 10 minutes later I look up and she's staring right at me, then 10 minutes later she tells me I need to buy something or leave. Her tone was mean and she made me feel embarrassed . I was the only person of color (I AM MEXICAN) and it seemed strange to me that she kept checking in on me (and ONLY ME) as if I was loitering or was not actually doing my homework. This is the first time I ever felt harassed at this place but it was enough for me not to go back. I got up afterwards and ordered a drink and continued to do my homework. Every time I looked up her eyes were on me and finally I felt too uncomfortable to stay longer so I packed up and left. It is unfortunate that these events occurred and I hope that this establishment can do better in the future for all their customers including their customers of color. read more

I got the chai on ice (so good), hubs got the boulder blues, and they even made a chocolate milk for the tot- bonus! Talk about terrific tea time! They have this delicious combo sparkling water and flavored tea called Sparkle Tea. A delightful name for a delightful tea. Their spinach and feta cheese frittata didn't only have a robust savory flavor profile, it was a pretty decent serving size, too. The ordering set-up is similar to any ordinary coffee shop where you order at a counter, but they bring the food out to you when ready! They even have a tea of the day!
