Arrived around 730 pm, the place was pretty much empty, maybe a tables inside and a couple finishing up outside. We waited next to the bar to As of they were still serving ... ignored ... ignored ... Finally someone looks out way and tells us we can sit down. The server finally comes around ( who BTW was pretty nice ) not very attentive, but fine. So our meal came out .. it was okay. Nothing great, but okay. BUT, The group of guys that came on behind us, that's another story. The server must have told them three times, that they need to hurry because they are closing! First it was SEVEN minutes, Then when she set their food down, she told them 10 minutes. A few years ago we were given a gift certificate for The Laughing Clam. Since name wasn't appealing to me, I tucked this away in my husbands wallet and forgot about it. Now since we will be moving out of state we decided to try this little restraunt. Well? I just had the best hamburger I have ever had. And this I can say without reservation. Our only regret is that we didn't try this 5 years ago! We would have gladly made this a weekly outing. We can't say how the rest of the menu unfolds, but if the burgers are ANY indication? The restaurant is primarily a bar. They had live music while we were there. It was pretty loud, but didn't last too long so we could have a conversation after the band stopped. I am amazed at how nice the people are here. A very sweet lady in the table next to us chatted us up and gave us some of her onion rings. One of the band members came to our table and chatted with us as well. The waitress was fairly attentive. The food we ordered was basically fried seafood. Everything tasted good. This is a decent place for a meal, though be prepared that seafood is pretty expensive. Dinner for two was over $50. read more

The Laughing Clam is a Grants Pass staple. With the struggling economy, one of my fears is that they may someday close. However, I don't think that will happen because everyone knows that they are the best! I've never had anything there that was short of fantastic. Tonight was my first time ever going to the Laughing Clam. When we walked in we waited a while before I walked to the bar and asked if it was open seating. She said no, someone would be with us shortly. Eventually they took my name and put it on the list. Meanwhile two other couples came in and then a family of four. We were all sitting there for about 20 minutes even though I could see at least 2 empty tables that just needed bussed. Then the waitress came up and seated one of the couples that had come in after us (We were also a party of 2). One of the other couples who was still waiting got frustrated and walked out. We waited a while longer, still noticing the empty tables that nobody ever cleaned, but nobody ever came up to seat us. So we walked out as well and went to a different restaurant. This place looked like the blind leading the blind. So if you like to waste time and not eat dinner then I'd recommend this place. If you're looking for service I'd go literally anywhere else. i will not be back. read more

Literally the rudest male waiter. I felt unclean and sticky dive bar vibes here, I don't think they use fresh salad greens either, they tasted off and handled by too many hands, like somebody stuck their hands inside the salad and got bar towel water all over it. The guy who helped me acted like he already knew what I wanted to say, way too confident considering his service was crap. It's hard to find a place to eat in gp, go to the bohemian. They were out of oysters and clam strips which was a HUGE disappointment, but we instead got scallops, shrimp, and clam chowder, and everything was great ! Service was fast. Will definitely come back if ever in grants pass again. read more

By the time I got home (the other side of town) and noticed the fried oyster missing in my fried basket, I figured it was too late to even try and call them and say anything. First, the restaurant itself has a very cool vibe. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive. I love the historic building with what looks like an original wood bar. I went in for lunch shortly after it opened and was very surprised about the amount of menu items not available. I ordered the hot and crunchy wings and the jumbo prawns. The wings were nothing more than frozen excessively battered wings with a real lack of taste, especially not a hot one. The jumbo prawns made me laugh as the size was nothing more than a medium sized shrimp bought frozen with a lack of flavor and overcooked. I'm not sure what was made in house. The worst service ever! We waited for ever to get menus, waited even longer for someone to take our order, waited for food, waited for ever to get our bill! We had 6 different people "taking" care of us. Witness multiple people come in, sit down and finally leave cause they weren't greeted! Food was average at best if you like fried food. read more

I've been coming here for years, and every visit is just as good as the last. Finally found a good restaurant in Grants Pass, OR. Easy to get to for a lunch stop from the freeway. Great atmosphere, great service and good food. I had the mussels and my husband had the clam chowder (which is what we were after. The chowder was great (although a bit thick for my taste. I had the mussels in a delicious garlicky, butter, sauce. Found this place by accident (I'd been walking to a restaurant on the next block) and it was perfect. Excellent burger--I eat about 2 lbs of beef/year and this counted as a quarter of it and was worth it. Excellent Cole slaw side. While the drink was forgettable, the tequila pour in it was generous. Wonderful food with staff that go above and beyond. Our waitress was so kind and always kept checking on our family. There was a food item that wasn't coming out as fast as the others and she went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of in the meantime. Great vibes immediately, loved the decor. We seated ourselves (it was a busy Friday night) When the server came to take our orders she mentioned the table was reserved but they hadn't shown up. So we ordered drinks. Soon after our drinks arrived the folks who had reserved the table showed up. We gladly relocated and we received the drinks on the house! While it was nice to get out and sit down, it did not make up for my magic mushroom burger. The burger was over cooked and lacked flavor. It was full of grilled onions and, if there were mushrooms, they must've been ground up into the meat. It had spinach on it as well which I thought was unusual. The fries weren't bad; nothing to write home about. The server was friendly and doing his best with a fairly full section. The prices were decent. Others in my party enjoyed their meals which included clam chowder in a bread bowl, ale battered shrimp appetizer, and kids Mac and cheese. Which, for my kid was way too fancy. Fresh pieces of garlic in your cheese sauce is awesome (for folks who like a good Mac n cheese), but to picky eaters they key in on it right away. My wife and I are visiting from out of town and we found this little gem by accident. It's tucked away off the main street next to an ice cream shop. We loved the environment. The place has a feeling of being a hometown favorite and the servers seemed to know everyone eating there. The crazy thing is that they seemed to know us and we live a thousand miles away! It was a hot day so we both started off with a cold adult beverage. The beer selection is awesome (and constantly rotating). I like trying new beers so I went with something local. If you don't like beer they have good mixed drinks too. My wife had a skinny margarita. The food was solid too. Anything with their beer batter was good particularly their prawns. Both of our entrees were on point and went perfect with our cold adult beverages. We're only in town for a few days but we definitely plan on going back before we leave.
