Went there for a change of venue. Ordered a Long Island Iced Tea and told the gal I was comparing which restaurant in town had the best. Laughing Clam has the BEST and I have tried them all. I also ordered Clam Chowder in a bowl, I am not really a clam chowder person, cause my favorite soup there is the Tortilla Soup. But the Clam Chowder was awesome......and I ate the bowl to boot. We were driving through Grant's Pass and wanted to stop for lunch. We checked out Yelp and found this place. If you want delicious clam chowder, this place is not to be missed. My husband picked the clam chowder in a bread bowl and I chose the soup, salad and ale bread combo. The chowder was one of the best we had. It rivaled Splash cafe's clam chowder (central California coast). Thick and creamy with a nice clam flavor (not fishy) and just the right amount of potatoes. The salad was fresh and the Ale bread was tasty. My husband loved the Ale bread and ate most of it. Service was friendly and prompt. The restaurant is located in the charming historic downtown so that's a plus too. Would definitely go back again just for the clam chowder. read more

I cannot imagine I could ever do this place justice with a review but I will try. We were passing through on vacation, and opted to try The Laughing Clam, because we wanted seafood, the reviews were good, and it seemed like a suitable environment for a family with a toddler. It was incredible! We sat down, and the waiter immediately brought our son a "kid plate" with bread, fries, and cucumber. All restaurants should implement this, cause it's genius! We had basic cocktails, crab shooters, steamed clams, pan seared scallops, and stuffed mushrooms. Every bite was so good, we couldn't find single negative. The clam chowder cought my husband completely off guard, it's perfectly thick and creamy and have plenty of clams and the potatoes were cooked perfectly it's the best clam chowder we've ever had! I also ordered the Seafood pasta it was completely loaded with seafood and the seasonings complement the meal perfectly. The pasta it self had a very nice consistency. Wife, daughter, and I stayed in Grant's Pass for a night on our way to Eugene and Bend, Oregon. We were going to go to a Thai place by our hotel but the hotel front desk person mentioned the Laughing Clam. So we drove to downtown and stopped in. Thank God she mentioned this place. It is great. It is friendly. The food is outstanding. Chase and Mystique were SUPER AWESOME when it comes to service. They worked their butts off and made sure we got whatever we needed. We waiting for a table but once one opened Mystique rushed to clear it off and made sure we got it as quickly as possible. Also while we were waiting she made sure we had a drink. Chase was our waiter and always made sure our food was ready to go and that we were ok. He was probably one of the best waiters we ever had at a restaurant. My wife and daughter shared the Fettucini Alfredo with crab meat. They loved it and ate every last bit. Great flavor. I got the appetizer of asparagus. That was super fresh and cooked perfectly. Than I ate a burger with fries. Burger was cooked perfectly, super juicy, and totally fresh. LOVED IT!!! I wish I had room to have some of their desserts because they looked great. In town for the weekend and had to try this place. Clam chowder was perfect for a cold November night! I'm kind of a snob when it comes to chowder (my favorite is from the original fish company in Los Alamitos, CA). This was very good! Thick, creamy, potatoes were cooked well, and plenty of clams. Ordered the seafood mama and bacon Mac n cheese to go. Seafood mama is SO GOOD. creamy, cheesy sauce.. full of scallops, crab, and shrimp. Topped with seared scallops. Only thing I wasn't crazy about was the salad dressing. I requested ranch but it was more like a Caesar. Not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things haha but I love a good soup and salad combo. Bartender handled my order (Sara). She was super nice and got the order correct. I wasn't able to get a cocktail but they have a full bar and she made some tasty looking drinks! Turns out the best clam chowder in Oregon is in Grant's Pass. Who knew? I went here for dinner on the Friday of the Thanksgiving long weekend and the place was super crowded, so we sat at the bar. It took a while for a server to acknowledge us, but once they did, they were very nice and we got our drinks quickly. Food took a long time to come out, again because it was so busy. But when it did.. Hoooooo, boy. Everything was absolutely incredible. I've already mentioned the chowder, but I can't stop thinking about it. Perfect score from this Bostonian. The fettuccine alfredo was HUGE and delicious, and my husband got the fried crab and lobster mushroom dish, which is listed as an appetizer but big enough for a meal. We liked this place so much we went back for lunch the next day. The only complaint I had was that it does take a while for service, so don't eat here if you're in a hurry. Went here for treatment on a quick layover stop foe the night. Excellent service: Jen and Jenny helped us at first (my name is Jennifer-- so that was kinda funny!) and then Tina took over as it was busy. But all worked together as a team. We ordered the Mama pasta which was filled with A LOT of fresh seafood and we got the stuffed mushrooms. Both were delicious as was the clam chowder. Bread was fresh and tasty as well. We were staying in Grants Pass on the way to the Oregon coast and this looked like a good place to enjoy a casual dinner on a Friday night. It certainly was busy - we waited about 20 minutes for a table for 2. Ordered a cup of clam chowder each and split an order of onion rings and a basket of shrimp and clam strips. The chowder tasted as it came straight from a can, the onion rings were okay. The shrimp was burned and the clams were chewy as hell. The IPA was specially made for this restaurant and was excellent. Confession: I'm a salad snob. The kind that turns her nose up at iceburg lettuce and premixed greens - ya know, the kind with shredded carrots and bits of red cabbage. Methinks not. Easily seeing that Laughing Clam was more on the dive bar side (which I like), I knew scoring a killer salad was fairly unlikely. It's true, the greens and options were nothing to write home about but there were definitely some other factors that this bar restaurant had going for it on a Saturday night. One: live music. The kind that makes you want to drink more and stay forever. I'll gladly welcome some tunes with my eats any day. Wine sold by the carafe: slightly unexpected given the setting but I had to factor in that California was only a wink away and Oregon holds its own when it comes to vino. My travel companion (dad), wasn't super keen on my dry selection so I ended downing it by myself. Good news is, it was very budget-friendly. The overall setting of Laughing Clam is both casual and inviting with brick walls, high ceilings and what seemed to be a very local clientele. My husband, son and I are passing through Grants Pass. We found The Laughing Clam here on Yelp and we're very happy we did. Guinness on tap, Blushing Lady Martini, Clam Chowder, Dinner Salad, Seafood Mama, Three Cheese Bacon Mac, Shrimp Po Boy, Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake and Diana's 7-Layer Rainbow Cake. Wow! We loved it. Everything was delicious! Brandi was our server - pleasant and personable. The atmosphere was full of welcoming greetings to all the local regulars coming in. Yet we out-of-towers felt just as welcome. Thank you to the chef, our server and everyone else who made this an enjoyable experience!
