We went last night for dinner. First let me say what a gem. We are from Alexandria visiting Mineral for the weekend and this restaurant reminded us of a DC restaurant. The ambiance and the service were amazing. The food was spectacular my wife's meal was amazing. I had the chicken and it was prepared amazing. I have to say this a 5 star restaurant. Definitely will be back when we visit again!!

Congratulations note - very kind touch. Waitress also left truffles to take home which was an unexpected luxury!

My husband and I truly enjoyed our experience at The Lion's Den 1837 - our waitress Rebekah was incredibly kind and attentive. She even took a Polaroid photo of us for our scrapbook! Food was wonderful. The burrata with olive basil tapenade was light and airy. The bread was perfectly done and warm when it came to the table. I ordered the scallop and shrimp risotto, which was excellent! Large size shrimp and the scallops were perfectly cooked. Not only was the food delicious, the experience was incredible and gave an authentic 1800's vibe, from the dark wood stain walls and original flooring to the soft jazz played in the background. As an unexpected added touch, the waitress wrote a congratulations card signed by staff and two chocolate truffles to take home. 10/10 experience and a lovely find in Mineral.

We decided to try this place for our last night in town for a family lake visit. What a lovely meal. This is a warm, friendly environment with well-executed food and excellent service. It is elevated cooking without pretension. The scallops Rockefeller were tender and rich (and our server, Gabby, wisely suggested some bread to mop up the sauce). The wine list was well-curated and my Boulevardier was nicely balanced. All our steaks (Wagyu flank, NY strip Leon, two filets mignon) were prepared as ordered and finished nicely with an array of compound butters, au jus, and sauces. The sides were excellent: perfectly cooked broccolini and asparagus alongside mashed potatoes that our older daughter - a veteran of renowned steakhouses - declared the best she'd ever had. They accommodated our autistic younger daughter's needs (no sauces, subbed butter noodles as a side, made her fresh lemonade). As a side note, I suspect that the butter noodles were cooked to just shy of al dente and then poached in butter to finish, as they had a flavor and texture pleasantly reminiscent of mac and cheese. For dessert, the kids enjoyed Nutella cake and Black Forest cake while mom sipped some wine and I enjoyed a generous pour of Buffalo Trace. The service was friendly, professional, and unfussy. Gabby's instincts for when to check on us were preternaturally accurate and always welcome. It was the most expensive meal we ate this week, but the quality is head and shoulders above the other lake offerings. Well worth a visit, and I hope this place gets the recognition it deserves. We will be back, and we're looking forward to it.

EXCEPTIONAL! We were surprised to find such a unique restaurant out in the middle of nowhere! The hostess and our server were both so friendly and attentive. The decor is very warm and romantic. The food...TOP NOTCH! I highly recommend this place and I look forward to visiting again soon!

The Lions Den is truly and surprise from start to finish! When you first walk in, there is dark wood, antiques and crystal chandeliers, giving off an old elegant feel. One arriving through the original front doors of the building, we were greeted by a warm and inviting host that took us to our table that is set with fresh pressed linens and beautiful glassware. Once the server arrived, we were greeted and asked if we have been here before. When we let them know it was or first time here, they gave us a little history on the building and the menu has a full history listed on the back. The building exudes historical charm and is a registered historical building dating back to 1837. Upon ordering our food, we received bread with three house made compound butters. Food and service were amazing! This is a must try!

The wife and made the trek to Mineral Sunday to sample the Lions Den. The building itself is a historic old building with a dark wood dark interior and fairly dark ambiance. We did not have reservations but were seated immediately because it wasn't crowded at all. Waitstaff was attentive, knowledgeable, and pleasant. We chose the Lions feast for two (from the specials menu) which gave you a choice of starter, soup or salad, entree, and shared dessert. Initial bread and butter flight was tasty and complimentary. All courses were staggered and ample time was allotted before the next arrived. The food was beautifully presented and very tasty. For an intimate or special occasion dinner the Lions Den checked every box.

I ordered the steak frites, and every bite was fantastic. The steak was cooked perfectly, the fries were crisp and flavorful, and even the horseradish crème fraîche was incredible. I'm usually not someone who gets excited about dipping sauces, but this one complemented the meal so well. The bartender was also outstanding. He recommended the chocolate mousse, saying he "could bathe in it." After trying it, I completely understood what he meant. It was rich, silky, and hands down one of the best chocolate mousses I've ever had. It was the perfect way to end the meal. Excellent food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere made this an easy five-star experience. I'll absolutely be back the next time I'm in Charlottesville.

The service was excellent throughout the meal. Our server, was absolutely lovely. She was friendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome. She was one of the highlights of the experience. We started with the steak tartare. It was decent, but a little saltier than I would have preferred. My biggest complaint was that the accompanying bread wasn't brushed with butter or olive oil, which made it feel a bit dry and out of place alongside such a rich dish. One thing that was disappointing was the portioning of the shareable sides. The menu describes them as serving 3 to 4 people, but in our experience they were much more realistically sized for about two people. That was frustrating, especially given the overall price point. For our entrees, we ordered the ribeye, bavette, and New York strip. All of the steaks were cooked well, but I found them to be good rather than great, especially considering the price point. They just weren't particularly memorable. The ribeye, in particular, leaned a bit too far toward fatty rather than beautifully marbled, so there was more unrendered fat than I would have liked. The steak sauces were enjoyable, but they also didn't stand out in any significant way. They were well made, but nothing especially unique or memorable. Overall, I enjoyed the evening, the atmosphere, and the exceptional service. However, for a steakhouse at this price point, I expected to be more impressed by the food. Everything was solid, but nothing really wowed me or left me thinking, "I can't wait to come back." It is disappointing to have buyers remorse from such a nice restaurant.

I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit again. Unfortunately, they don't offer jumbo crabs--they sell them as #1 or #2. We even made a reservation days in advance, so you would think they would've been prepared for a large group, but clearly they were not. The older woman working there (I believe her name was Christina) had a very rude attitude the entire time. At one point, the staff accidentally dropped another table's food at OUR table, and after some people started eating it because we assumed it was ours, she came over yelling, "Y'all ate their food" with attitude, even though it was completely the restaurant's mistake. To make things worse, they refused to split the check for a large group, so one person had to pay while 20 people sent money through Zelle and manually calculated taxes and totals themselves. It made everything unnecessarily stressful and complicated. The food also took forever to come out, and honestly it was overpriced for food that was just okay at best. While we were still trying to figure out the bill, staff were telling us we needed to start clearing the tables. Overall, the customer service was unprofessional, disrespectful, and incredibly disappointing. I would give no stars if I could.

I looked through Yelp and picked F132 as our first meal in the new town. Great choice! We didn't have a reservation, and it was Friday at 6pm, so we were placed on the bar seating wait list. We were seated in 20-25 minutes, which was super fast and great with us. Lesson learned for next time, make a reservation. But, if you choose or wind up at the bar, the service is great and seating is comfortable. The bartender was with us quickly and walked us through the Happy Hour specials. Drinks, apps, etc. they had a good variety of things in HH and many seemed interesting. But we were there for steak, so we let him know and he took our orders. In the meantime, he got us waters and bread service. While we waited, we watched the bar staff make some amazing concoctions including smoked old fashioneds, and all manner of flavors, textures, and mixtures. I don't really do cocktails but there were egg whites, chocolate sauce, fruits, mints and great presentations. They also were serving HH food and the Happy Dog looked filling: the truffle fries were served in what looked like multi-pound platters. I had the filet with French onion soup and corn salad. My wife had filet with mashed potatoes and black eyed peas. The bartender explained sides change frequently and are selected by what is available farm fresh. The corn salad was a sort of chilled street corn with some peppers and stuff. Very good and the corn was so fresh. French onion soup was delish! Absolutely perfect. Black eyed peas were great. I didn't try the mashed potatoes. The steak was the star. I don't know what's in their house rub, but it's perfect. And the steaks are cooked under an 1800 degree broiler so they get that perfect sear. Both were cooked at the perfect temperature. And the meat was trimmed so there was nothing but butter-tender beef. Let me be clear-THIS IS THE BEST STEAK I'VE EVER HAD! The service was perfect. My glass never fell below 2/3 full, and we never were waiting on service, but it was non intrusive and really made the experience so much better. A++! Wherever you are reading this, stop what you are doing, and RUN, don't walk to Fahrenheit 132. You'll thank me later.

We have since returned home to our rural community in Virginia, and went to Sabor A Mexico for an early dinner. The waitress immediately brought us a basket of their complimentary fresh tortilla chips, and their homemade (excellent) salsa. Per our usual habit, we split our entrees. I ordered a grilled taco plate ($12.47) which features three flour tacos, with choice of meat, refried beans, rice, homemade pico de gallo, and another sauce (tasty, but not sure what it was). I got one each of chicken, carnitas (pork) and carne asada (steak) tacos. My husband predictably? got a taco salad ($9.62) with ground beef, refried beans, iceberg lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese, and sour cream, served in a deep fried shell. All of the food was tasty and was as authentic as the Mexican food we ate in Tucson. Quantities were excellent. I couldn't eat "my half", and turned the plate back to my husband to finish off. Our waitress was attentive, checking on us regularly to see if we needed anything. A few small quibbles -- we prefer a salsa with some chunks in it; this one was over-processed for our preference. Also, the pico de gallo was more liquidy than we'd prefer. It made the rest of the food a bit wet. Beyond the restaurant's control, taxes are high at 11.3%, with the town of Mineral getting 6% whereas the state of Virginia gets 5.3%. We enjoy this restaurant, and will return.

I see a negative review from a couple of months ago (~February 2026-ish?) that sounds like it was written about another restaurant, not the delightful Bavarian Chef I know and love. The writer of that poor review seems to have been enjoying the sound of her own writing (which leans toward the overly dramatic and away from anything like an honest review) more than trying to express anything real about the Bavarian Chef. She seems to have an ax of some kind to grind, as she could find not one nice, decent thing to say.
