Went in with a group for brunch on Sunday. Nice restaurant. It was clean and the service was good. Everyone got what they ordered other than one having tomato which was requested to have omitted. I met a friend at The Local for the first time to see my favorite band B Easy. We had no idea it would be so crowded. They recently opened an outdoor patio which is where the band played. We found two seats on the edge of the parking lot just outside the patio. There was a privacy fence so we couldn't see the band but we could hear them perfectly. We took turns going inside to the bar to get drinks. My first time in line at the bar took roughly 15 to 20 minutes. That turned out to be the average for the night. The feeling we got was that management didn't expect this big of a turnout either so it was a little discombobulated half way through the evening. I would like to go back and try it out on a not so crazy night when we can get a table and enjoy a meal. read more

Delicious brunch in their welcoming outdoor space. As with almost all our local beach restaurants, very casual is fine (we were post-workout), especially this time of day. Great brunch options from traditional to very creative. DH had the Hurricane Plate while I tried the Turkish Eggs. Mine was a stretch even for my adventurous palate, but the baguette toast brought it all together beautifully. So resfreshing! TBH, we have lots of great options within a few blocks and have not found this to be a fave. This is now for sure a part of our repertoire. read more

This place was extremely underwhelming. Menu was extremely appealing and I wanted to order almost everything there. We got the popular chicken skewers which looked great when they came out. They were so fatty we would have needed a steak knife to cut through them. They also forgot some of the toppings that were listed to come on it (no peanuts at all). Then we got our short rib sandwich. The inside of the sandwich was delicious (can't go wrong with short rib). It said it came on crispy sourdough but it came on soggy regular toast/bread instead. The fries looked good but they were not crisp at all. I am unsure if the chef was absent that night or what but the food was not what we expected at all. Came into The Local around 12:00PM on a Sunday so of course we started off with a hard time finding parking. We did make sure to have someone in our party put a name on the list and were told 20-30 minutes. It is nice that they have their own lot but it is small so best of luck there. We ended up just going to paid beach parking since we were sick of driving around looking for a spot, especially with these gas prices. We did put in a spot outside since we had the dogs and once we had parked and walked over our table was ready. Our waitress quickly brought us out menus both food and drink as well as waters. Since it was Sunday during brunch hours the normal lunch menu was not an option so I had to rethink we I was going to order. We of course started off with a few appetizers. We went with the The Blue Goat which is home-made blueberry bread pudding fried crispy & topped with whipped goat cheese, granola, fresh strawberry puree & fresh basil. We then tried to order the Conch Fritters but they were out so we went with the Korean Short Rib Fries which are crispy fries, hot-honey sauce, pulled short rib, pickled vegetables, kimchi, sriracha aioli, sesame seeds, scallions & fresh lime. Both these apps were very good. I will say the Blue Goat was much better then I thought it would be and I ended up liking it a lot. I will say it does seem more like a dessert though. The Korean Short Rib Fries were also delicious and great for sharing. Let's be honest you can't go wrong with Short Rib anything but then you add Fries, Hot-Honey, and Sriracha Aioli. Just pulls it all together. Since I had to change up the my entrée last minute I had to panic and try and found out what to go with. The original plan was seafood so that's what I went with. I got the The Wandering Cajun which is home fries smothered with New Orleans etouffée, Mayport shrimp, 2 sunny-side up eggs & scallions. Once it came out I realized it was very similar to Shrimp N Grits but with home fries instead of grits. I will say it was for sure a plus having the Etouffée but the problem was that since it's kinda wet/saucy it made the home fries a little soggy. Could have maybe been better with grits but I can appreciate trying something new. I will say though the shrimp were cooked perfectly which is always good. All and all nice spot with good food. We only go back because friends want us to meet there or there is a decent band but it is always the WORST. Hubs got a burger and was charged an extra 13 bucks for fries. Even though the burger COMES with fries. Robin the bartender is worthless. Think that's her name. Blonde. God forbid you should ask for ketchup sitting outside "well I'll have to go inside for that". Great then why don't you do that. Most of the bartenders act like they are doing you a favor to bring you a watered down (often not what you ordered) drink. What a terrible experience at the Local! We used to frequent the San Marco location until we had a bad dinner experience. We gave them one more try and they were closed for a private party without posting on their website, google, or Instagram. We stopped going to the San Marco one. I have heard great things about the beaches location and decided to check out their late night happy hour with my parents. We walked in and the interior is really nice and beachy! The hostess told us we could sit anywhere outside. We walked out and the bar was bumping! We found 3 seats at the bar and were excited. We thought live music was about to start, but quickly realized it had just ended. The happy hour menu shows discounted drinks and apps from 10-12, even on the weekend. This was about 10:30 pm on Friday night. I tried to catch the bartenders attention for a menu which he looked right at me and said "just a minute" before going over to finish a conversation with his friend. We laughed it off because he really was not that busy. He tossed menus at us so rudely, and we browsed the menu. We could tell he was very rude to all of the customers, so this was definitely not the time or place to order food. I finally got his attention to order drinks - 1 gin and tonic and 1 drink off the happy hour menu - a pineapple mezcal margarita. He never said hello or can I take your order. We were clearly an inconvenience. He walked away while I was still talking and I wasn't finished ordering. I yelled over 1 water too please! We were never acknowledged. We watched him throw our drinks together literally. I asked for the check right away and he again tossed it at me. Are you trying to make any money from this job, Sir?? Mind blowing. No lime in the gin and tonic, and my pineapple drink dripping down the side. I didn't catch his name clearly since he didn't stay at our end of the bar for more than 2 seconds, but he had long hair in a ponytail and black finger nail polish. I then watched 2 guys order tequila shots and ask for limes. Doesn't seem like a big ask.... ?! He HANDS them the little bin of limes for them to dig their fingers into to take the limes before putting them behind the bar. I was so turned off by this whole experience. The customers next to us were just as irritated when the man tried to order happy hour food for his group. I am sorry to write a bad review because we once loved The Local in San Marco, but this was absolutely the last straw. We will never go back here. read more

Went to The Local for the first time. I went for brunch and it wasn't too busy, lucky to find parking in their little lot though! The restaurant itself is cute and has a lot of natural light. I got a water to drink but there were some floating fuzzies in my glass :( The next one they brought me was fine. I decided to get the Korean short rib fries as my entree which I think is usually an appetizer. I wasn't a huge fan of it; the fries were soggy, it was very sweet for some reason, and I wasn't sure what the kimchi aspect of it was. The Korean short rib part was a little tough but okay flavor. I probably wouldn't get this again. I will say that the sandwiches that my friends got looked good! So maybe I'll give this place another shot someday. read more

Pros: Oysters were great and waitress was very friendly. Cons: Main meals come out more disappointing every time. The main menu is very repetitive and most items come out tasting like they came from the frozen meal section of the grocery store. I wish this could be a place for locals to enjoy but instead it is a tourist trap with tourist prices for very low quality food. I FINALLY made it to the local for a long overdue visit. I have been meaning to go since it opened and am so happy I did! We went on a Monday at 11 (right when it opened) and got our choice of seating indoors or outdoors. I highly recommend outdoors if the weather isn't too hot! They have a lovely shady outdoor area that has great ambiance! Heads up- brunch is only served Friday-Sunday. My dreams of brunch were slashed but lunch made up for it! As an appetizer my group and I enjoyed the Buffalo cauliflower. It was good but I was disappointed the cauliflower was breaded to be honest. For drinks we had mimosas and while they were good there was too much juice vs bubbles ratio for my liking. It tasted more like OJ than anything else. Despite my disappointments with the appetizer and beverages the lunch meals were solid. I had the quinoa chicken bowl and absolutely loved it. My friends had the goatacado and the get rooted- both were enjoyed immensely. Overall a great option in you're looking for an option at the beaches town center area! read more

Man, I was sad that I left here so sad. We started off with a beer, a brown sugar old fashioned, and an order of Buffalo cauliflower. The old fashioned was great but seemed to be a bit small to me. I was expecting the Buffalo cauliflower to be crispier, but it was just barely crunchy. Some were soggy. The cup of ranch was also barely half-full. Our main entrees were the crab macaroni and cheese and the Churrasco Terra (filet with potatoes and caramelized onions). My first filet was VERY overcooked, with all but one of the slices cooked all the way through. I mustered up the nerve to send it back and ask for another steak cooked medium rare. My second steak was cooked medium well, and the potatoes and onions were undercooked. Most of the onions were so undercooked, they were still white. Definitely not caramelized. I was very disappointed but just didn't want to wait again for a third meal. I ended up eating my husband's side of fries (which I will admit were very delicious). Just not the way I expected my meal to go. This is the second time I've been here, and the first time was better. I won't let it stop me from returning but I will hope for a better experience next time. read more

I had a bunch of questions and she was patient, kind, and so lovely the whole time. I didn't take a picture but I did get the Yazhou Salmon salad and let me tell you... 10/10!!! I really like that the Local is in the neighborhood, they make a great additional to what's already at Town Center. Unfortunately, experiences and quality of the place is never the same. You either have a great server with great food or still great server but the kitchen just kind of send out what they feel like. In my recent visits I've received really subpar foods. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Nachos and within 3 mins it was served. The top tasted great but then 1/3 of a way through the rest is soggy as if it has been sat for a while. I also ordered the hot honey bites for it to swim in an endless ocean of oil. One visit the calamari was amazing but the next they're dried and fried to oblivion. However I like to point out the the staff are great, super friendly and courteous folks. read more

The Local is one of our go to spots and we love it, but service can be hit or miss. The past couple times we've been, the service has been worse than normal. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that it's just a tough time for the restaurant industry. Our waitress Alyssa was excellent, but the food took a while to come out of the kitchen. My mom and I got the BLTA minus egg, and although it really was good, the bread was barely toasted (maybe not at all) and they didn't cut the sandwich in half. The home fries did come out hot and toasty though, very good. My fiancé and dad both got the local plate. The eggs were cold and the "baguette" was honestly more like a crouton in size (pictured). Again, it seems the kitchen is having some difficulty but at the end of the day, the food is very good and the atmosphere is nice. There's normally no wait to get a table and the outdoor seating area is very pleasant. They have a fair amount of parking and it's never much of an issue. My favorite dish is the hot honey chicken bites. The Local also owns Wonderbird so any of their fried chicken is fantastic. Overall, definitely recommend this place. read more

So we ended up at this place because they had limited wait time and we were hot after being at the beach. There's indoor and outdoor seating along with Adirondack chairs out front while you potentially wait for your table The menu is diverse with a variety of drink options along with meat and vegetarian type options also. The drinks we've got were so so I ordered a simple vodka grapefruit and I'm not quite sure if I got the more expensive vodka that I had requested. Or appetizer of spinach and artichoke dip was very good with a lightly toasted artisan bread as opposed to a variation of pita chips I ordered a goat avocado type salad and added some fish this was delicious but very large salad it easily could have been split between two people and you or you will have plenty to take home My daughter ordered a zucchini spaghetti and shrimp entree that was very light with a refreshing almost citrusy type sauce She enjoyed it and would definitely order it again Our final entree was the mahi spinach entree again well cooked well proportioned and nicely seasoned as described on the menu fish Our waitress Amy was quite good considering it progressively got busier but she seemed to be able to handle the new tables and her existing ones. If your hot natures sit in the dining area. The decor inside is nice looking, hard to believe this is the old seven eleven. The servers had it together, food came out quick. The quick and dirty: Trendy, clean beachside restaurant with a decent menu, pricing and parking! We had the day off and decided to take a little drive when we found ourselves hungry near the beaches. We were looking around to figure out where to go and decided to turn into the Local. We've been here for quite some time now but have never decided to go. It's one of the few places that has a dedicated parking lot in Atlantic Beach. The place was very clean and felt spacious - there was a comfortable distance between tables. We were seated quickly and in the way to the table, we noticed oysters on ice at the bar, which instantly made me think they had a decent seafood. We didn't try any this trip but we certainly will next time. We tried the hot honey chicken app, and decided we need to recreate this simple but delectable dish at home. I ordered a soup and salad with the mushroom bisque and the Get Chopped. Both were pretty good. The soup was very creamy and had lots of great mushroom flavor. The salad was filled with toppings that balanced each other well; I did wish it had more lettuce but otherwise was good. My husband had the chicken club and he thought it had a lot of meat, more than other places and was toasted well. We'll be back hopefully for a nice dinner and we'll try the seafood! read more

Stopped by for drinks with a friend here and it was great. The bar tenders outside in the patio were so sweet and are great at being attentive to people coming up to the bar on all sides. Loved this place on Neptune Beach! Went for Sunday brunch and we saw many people stop here for the live music on the patio. To start we had the conch fritters which were fried perfectly and their key lime aioli was to die for. I had the Pork Belly & Grits meal with eggs scrambled which was delicious. Though, I did wish for some more pork belly pieces to balance out the amount of grits I was given. My sister had their crab cake Benedict special which was so fresh and the potatoes were crispy. Not impressed with this place. Menu was different which i like because i wanted to try something new. For drinks tried the spicy watermelon and thought my esophagus was burning. So sent that back and got the raspberry bliss and my guy got the local paloma which were both quite tasty. For our meal i tried the quinoa fried rice with fried chicken and my guy ordered the short rib. Both were ok, not great but definitely filling. Too much in my opinion. After 35 minutes waitress returns to tell me that they are out of Ceasar dressing. Now I'm already pissed off where is everything else? 10 minutes later Cesar salad miraculously is dressed but it's so terrible I cringe to get it eaten but want to keep my family from knowing what a bad choice if establishment we made. Round two - two simple cheeseburgers, a chicken salad and a pasta dish. Cue the misery- 45 minutes later teo burgers burned beyond recognition. Arrive. My kids who will eat basically anything look at these hockey pucks and say no way we are eating this. The other food isn't ready. I find the manager tell her this is just the worst experience I'd ever had and that I am leaving. I pull her aside and whisper it but notice she's bought about three tables dinners and was making the rounds apologizing to every miserable table. The waitress Haley was amazing and none of this was her fault so I didn't her give her $20 and tell her to seek employment somewhere better. Kids throw the burgers down, wife is finding another place to eat and we're brought a bill for $50 for the inedible Cesar salad the fries which my son didn't eat and a Diet Coke! This place has a great concept, and it draws a crowd. Once the crowd has arrived, it's just not a big enough space, especially when they have live music. The parking lot is tiny and there isn't adequate enough parking in the area for the weekends. Most of the staff is very friendly, but I've had a few bad experiences with rude bartenders. They really don't like it if you ask questions or modify an order. As a tired teacher who just needs a drink, I would love to be shown a little kindness on my rare night out. read more

This place will not disappoint. The food is delicious. I went for lunch with my wife and two kids. My kids (the toughest food critics) gave it an infinity out of 10. Every dish is great, the food is well orchestrated with simple fresh ingredients that go great together and you don't look at the bill and think you got hosed like some of the other AB restaurants. You can tell the chefs and staff take pride in what they do. We had Emily as our server who was great! This is the best casual dining spot at the beach and very reasonably priced. It wasn't our original plan to step foot in here but we did and I'm glad we did. We have always wanted to try it out but the cards never fell in place to make it happen. Today it did! We were seated fast!! The place is very youthful and vibrant! We loved that they do freshly squeezed juices. My wife had a grapefruit juice and even I liked it. Our waitress Michelle was very sweet and attentive to us! The weirdest thing occurred when she was placing our water cups down- the cup that was mine shattered right in front of us. She doesn't know what happened or why! She barely placed the glass on the table and it shattered and all the water spilled on my pants. . But they got me a towel- and the worst was over. Although I'm surprised a manager didn't come by to make sure I didn't have glass on me and to simply give a courteous apology. Anyway- we ordered and I got the full Duval- 3 eggs, so good! Fried breast chicken- so good! Home fires- really good! A waffle- not so good-it tasted like a Holiday Inn continental breakfast waffle. Very average and a little disappointing!
