My husband & I still cannot stop raving about our recent experience at The Loft. The staff not only catered to our specific dietary requirements (we're vegan) but crafted one of the most delicious & creative meals we've ever had. (Seriously - vegan macaroni & cheese with buffalo chickpeas & cashew ranch dressing! It. Was. Amazing.) Everyone was so pleasant & the drinks were great. I'm at The Loft right now. Horrible kitchen service. We sat at the bar to watch the Bruins. Matt was our bartender and greeted us very pleasantly. We ordered our drinks and an appetizer and we got them in a timely manner. However, then we ordered our meals. That's when I just wanted to leave. I ordered the tuna poke bowl without mayo dressing (I just dislike mayo on anything). It came out covered in mayo dressing. No big deal, I just let the person who brought it out know that I had ordered it without the dressing. A few minutes later he came back out and the salad was completely deconstructed of the other sauces (it had a ginger and soy sauce that previously dressed the salad). The server (not Matt) said, "the chef just put everything as sides.". I was pissed. The bartender casually said, "I just completely forgot to tell him.". I then asked the bartender if he could make me a Bloody Mary without booze (I gave it up for lent). He agreed - but said he'd have to charge me as if I had liquor because the Bloody Mary mix was top shelf. Not his fault - but I get it. His replacement came and took away my boyfriend's empty beer glass (1st one) and didn't offer another. We had to wait awhile before she came to us. Again, nice bar staff, but she was overwhelmed and it wasn't very busy. The staff (except for the greeters) did nothing to make you feel welcome or make you want to stay. It's pretty much a perfect rating with 3 stars, well done fellow Yelpers. This place is owned by the same people who own Joe Fish next door. It's the lesser of the two for sure. The menu is standard, no signature items are going to wow you, but they have daily specials. The calamari and meatloaf are favorites, as are the house made chips, cornbread and coleslaw. The prices are high for the quality and portion side. The atmosphere is typical, but loud if you sit at the bar downstairs. The service has always been bad here from the bored looking hosts to the waitstatff being uninformed of the menu and slow to return to the table. On my last trip in, I asked for a minute more with the menu and was given 20 with an empty beer glass in front of me even though the place was dead. With not much else in the area, this would be a passable place for a bite, but is by no means a destination restaurant. read more

Not only is the food terrible, your waitstaff lacks knowledge of what goes on. I called at 3 to inquire about the music bingo and was told it starts at 7. My 72 year old father showed up at 615 to get a seat and was spoken very rudely to by the waitress. (I was on the phone with him as he was there) They did not have music bingo and lacked any hospitality skills. I myself work in the industry and I don't treat my paying customers this way. Such a nice dinner! Marissa our waitress was very friendly and they were great about us having our small dog with us. Our appetizer came out quickly (spicy artichoke dip - yum!) and our dinners followed soon after. I had baked haddock which was cooked perfectly and my husband's chicken pot pie was delicious! I have been coming here for years. Great atmosphere, food is delicious. There is one consistent problem they have here and haven't seemed to figure it out.....they seem understaffed. My last visit here, we were seated relatively fast, and by the manager. It wasn't too busy. My wife, kids and friends (6 total) were sat downstairs in a corner. Drinks and bread basket took a little while to get to the table, maybe 20-25 minutes. Then they took our order. I have gotten the chicken parmigiana "redefined" the last few visits here. It is addicting! It features some well cooked grilled chicken breasts, with mozzarella served over zucchini spaghetti, tossed with marinated roasted tomatoes, spinach and garlic butter, garnished with shaved parmesan. Amazing. My wife usually steals a few bites. The kids love the burgers here, but they usually fill up on bread and take most of the meal home. NEXT DAYS BREAKFAST! The wait staff is ALWAYS pleasant. But, we always get the sense that they are stretched thin. Food orders take a while, and you don't get checked on very often. I blame management on that issue. Recently Visited The Loft in Andover. Very rustic and comfortable inside, I liked that. We sat at the bar and the bartender was great she was very friendly and attentive. Boyfriend got the baby lobster mac and cheese appetizer for $12.99. Not huge because it is an appetizer. He enjoyed it. I tasted it and although I'm not a lobster fan the mac and cheese was real thick creamy and delicious. For dinner I got a steak tip dinner that was on the specials menu. The plate was surprisingly small, it came on a bed of rice. There wasn't much rice and it was on the dry side. The steak tips were very tasty and tender. The description said it came with cheddar jack cheese on top. It was on top all right, a little to thick and smothered. I thought it just might be a thin layer sprinkled on top. My boyfriend got the Steak and cake oscar, which consisted of steak and a crab cake with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. The description said drizzled with Bearnaise sauce but it was covered in the sauce. Completely smothered I must add. My boyfriend commented that it looked like a giant sunday. His steak was tender and delicious once you scraped the sauce away but the crab cake tasted very fishy. It was also covered in the sauce along with the potato. The potatoes were a little too thin, almost like fake box potatoes. The asparagus was overcooked and looked boiled and not grilled. I might or might not go back again. read more

Went with my family for dinner a few nights ago...would not recommend to anyone, nor would I want to go back. We started with the onion strings as an appitizer. They were...alright. Very clearly undercooked and seemed like they didn't care much about what they served. Bad start. Drinks came out after the appitizer...iced tea was "unsweetened," but clearly came from a machine, most likely a Nestea type, which is always sweetened. Foul taste at best. Margarita took a good 15 minutes to be made, although there was about 7 people in the entire place. It was quickly thrown together, and tasted like a premade mix. Gross. The only drink to come on time and that didn't disappoint was water with lemon. The meals didn't come out at the same time. First came the daily special, a fajita style steak. It was ok. Overcooked, but not unexpected with the fajita style plating, since the skillet will still be cooking it as it comes out. Taste was average, but no other issues. The cheeseburgers were all relatively pricey ($17+) and didn't sound appealing at all, so I used the build your own option for something basic...a medium cooked burger with cheddar and bacon. Burger was cooked well, but was RUINED by the cheese. It was some sort of spray Cheez-Wiz on top, like you'd expect on a cheesesteak in Philly. Absolutely disgusting and has no place on a burger in any type of so-called "fine dining" establishment. I didn't even bother after 2 bites. Scraping the melting cheese off was useless, it was in every nook & cranny and the taste couldn't be rid of. The caesar salad was very basic...small, average looking, and riddled with tomatoes, after specifically asking for, you guessed it, no tomatoes. Blatant disregard for simple requests does not a good restaurant make. Overall, I'd give it a subpar performance: Food was below average, service was below average, and the burger actually made me envy the kids we passed at the McDonald's on the way home. read more

First time getting takeout. Baked Mac and cheese was burnt, entire top layer was black. My daughters chicken pie was a joke maybe 10 peas and 2 pieces of chicken along with burnt crust, pot roast dinner came with 3 little pieces of roast which tasted like rubber which came with one spoon of mashed potatoes and another of sweet potatoes which I did not order. Met a friend for apps and drinks yesterday, as usual our experience was pretty good. The draft list is adequate, I was able to find something I liked, and they have a pretty good variety across various tastes. We ordered Charlie's wings, which were very good, and the spicy spinach dip, which was also pretty tasty. I feel like the apps were appropriately priced and the serving size was reasonable. We ended up going somewhere else after for our actual meals as the entree prices were a little high, in my opinion. Even still, I enjoyed what we did have and I'm sure we'll be back, but probably only for apps and drinks. read more

Stumbled upon The Loft Restaurant when visiting some friends in North Andover. I LOVED the atmosphere of the place. The all wood interior gives it a warm feel. The waitress was pretty friendly. I ordered the fish and chips and they were pretty standard. I wish they had some seasoning in the batter or on the fish. Sadly the minuscule lemon wedge which was primarily rind didn't really lend any help to the otherwise flavorless fish. I will say the cole slaw that came on the side was some of the best i've ever consumed, and the fries were pretty good too. My cohorts ordered the Pot Roast dinner and the fancy gouda grilled cheese. They both loved their respective dishes. They appeared to have had a pretty decent beer selection. It was a wee bit early in the day for me to order a pint, but when i'm in town next i'll definitely give the loft another shot and order something different. read more

So, I had to go with okay on this one. I've been to the Loft a few times now, and each experince differs slightly from the first. I try not to repeat a selection when checking out something the first few times, so I've tried a few different plates. The first visit I had their ribs, man... were those suckers fantastic. Tender, falling off the bone meat, but still had a bit of bite to them. Savory bbq flavor, good sauce, something I would definitely recommend. My second and third visit are a bit mixed. At one visit I had their delmonico steak... which was huge by the way... but not that tasty. The meat was a little tuff, and lacked any real flavoring. It wasn't the worst steak I've had, but it's not a plate I would recommend. Their hamburgers aren't to bad, but reminds me of something you could get from the local chain (and not fast food chain). Good flavor, juicy, and real meat - but nothing that really makes it stand out from any of the others in the area. Not a bad spot to check out, and the atmosphere has a dive bar feel to it, but it's still kind of cozy and comfortable. If you're in the area, check it out. read more

The burgers are solid and they offer $5 Grey Goose drinks EVERY SINGLE DAY. Those of us in MA don't get the privilege of Happy Hour (no free booze here), so this is the next best thing. Ambiance is rustic and relaxed. A nice place to meet up with friends for a low key night. read more

Had my friend's birthday dinner here, so it was a large group of us, however we were the only ones in the upstairs dining. They only had one server on the floor, which I was slightly weary about as I had made a reservation earlier that week. Wouldn't they have gotten another server to also be on the floor? But anyways, back on the review... The food was just ok. It wasn't anything to write home about, and it was something I could make at home. The ribs was tender, but not very juicy. The steak dishes were just ok, nothing that we all couldn't have made at home on the grill. Going to a steak house, I would have expected something better than what I could made at home, but I was not impressed at all. So for service, as we were really the only ones on the upstairs dining, it was ok. I would have though they would have gotten another server to also aid her, we had a large party (13-15 people). I had even called earlier that week because we had so many people. Since she was by herself, it was fine. If I was to come back, I would hope the food would be a little better. But I have no plans on returning in the near future. read more

Three times so I guess I am ready to review. The faux old tavern atmosphere is nice especially on a cold winter day. Sit by the fire and keep warm. I have yet to eat upstairs but I love the downstairs, service is good. Food is very good. If you are looking for comfort food this place is it. The Mac n Cheese is very good. Burgers are good. So was the Firecracker Chicken Sandwich which is Cajun grilled chicken breast on a brioche roll with chipotle pepper aioli, onion rings bacon and melted pepper jack cheese. On the weekend they have prime rib which was very good. In fact they will replace our previous prime rib joint. If we have a hankering we'll be going here. read more

I used to come here quite often when I was in the area and I was surprised that I had not left a review. I got a call from some friends this past Tuesday for my birthday and just wanted to grab some drinks & food at a local place. I suggested we come here as it has been a while since I made a visit. I am very glad that I made the call to come here. We arrived roughly around 8 P.M and the establishment was relatively dead. The hostess was very friendly and welcoming and brought us to our seats (downstairs area) quickly. Our waitress (Sam) was very friendly and welcoming and very cheerful when she learned I was celebrating my birthday. She took our drink orders and quickly brought them to us. Asked us if we has any questions about the menu or items that were listed. There used to be a mega-desert that was 6 scoops of ice cream along with chocolate brownies & drenched in caramel & chocolate syrup along with dry ice that made the visual effects that much more spectacular. Sam had informed me that the desert was no longer available, but did inform me she would bring me a desert to celebrate my momentous occasion. The appetizers came out shortly after ordering them, and then our entrees shortly after we finished the apps. Sam was very attentive to our needs and brought us refills on our drinks without having to ask. She was very pleasant and easily dealt with our shenanigans, and also made this visit even more memorable. The food was really good, and so was my chocolate & ice cream desert. I am very pleased with my choice in going to the Loft for dinner with my friends. I will make certain that my next visit won't be years away. On a side note I did mention that it had been a while since I last visited this establishment and it seemed with this latest visit that the menu has diminished with the items that are available for dinner selection, but the items that are still on the menu I think give The Loft its rustic feel and comfortable atmosphere. Cozy, old-school atmosphere, with some tasty if conventional steak and seafood dishes. They might have been a pioneer with the lobster mac & cheese (at least it's the first place I ever heard that had it), but now that's become almost commonplace. Overpriced drinks and occasionally slow bartenders, even on a relatively dead night early in the week. Knock an average of 15 bucks off the total check and the place would be a solid 3.5 stars, easy. Nice clientele, not the best parking lot. A good choice if you don't mind overpaying for lunch a little. Cheaper and not as good as Burton's up the road a piece, but I'd still keep driving and opt for Grassfield's in Shawsheen, though. read more

I really liked it here! Fun and inventive drinks (mango martini could have been a little colder) and tasty comfort food. Had a great burger and tasted my niece's chowder which was good. My girlfriend and I came here on Friday night, place was busy but there was no wait and we were seated in the upstairs section. We always like to get drinks when we venture out and we're pleasantly surprised to find out they offer $5 grey goose drinks! For our app we got the Irish nachos and they were incredible. They use beer cheese, need I say more. We wanted to try entrees that we normally wouldn't get so I chose the Chinese Pork Chops and she got the Turkey Tips. Both were delicious. This was our first time going here. The location is good, and easy to find just look for the old barn. The inside is setup with LOTS of up and down steps. For the prices of Steaks I had hoped for more. It is completely average, maybe a bit better than one of the local chains. We started with skins w/chili. REAL potatoes not just frozen skins and decent chili. Next I had a Wedge salad, no meat. VERY good and highly recommended. Great Blue Cheese! Wife had the side salad which was boring, as it is at most places. Then came the meals. I had the chops and applesauce. Waitress offered, and I asked for them medium, got them well done,. Yukon mashed potatoes were a bit dry, mixed veggies had NO seasoning at all. Wife got the Chicken, Broccoli, Alfredo. VERY! good! Tons of flavor and the Alfredo sauce tasted homemade? All and all not bad. The Waitress left us alone, and refilled waters as needed without asking, which is the way I like it. She cleared silverware after the app., but looked disgruntled as she took our salad silverware (second set) off the used plates and left them for us to use with or meals.............I thought this was a Steak and Chophouse? Only other beef was no real napkins, just over sized paper napkins. 2 bars, one up one down. Downstairs bar was packed watching the various games until around 8:00 when it suddenly was barren. Upstairs had a mother with 2 VERY young kids eating at the bar, maybe 7 years old!?! Not bad, wouldn't go out of my way to go back, unless we were contemplating one of the chains in the area. read more

They have a pretty extensive menu, offering a variety of entrees and apps. We ordered the buffalo tenders, which were good but not great. I ordered the ultimate grilled cheese and my wife got the lobster mac and cheese. Both meals were good. The bad thing was the beer selection. They only had a few beers on draft and when I ordered a Harpoon IPA, I actually got a Winter Warmer. So that was a little rough. The wait was over an hour and I didn't really think it was worth the wait. The food is good but not great. Definitely worth the drive. Kristina was our waitress and she was wonderful. Very personable. We got to know her a little and will be asking for her the next time we go. I had a banana flavored martini. It was so good that I asked Kristina for the ingredients. She wrote them down for me and even told my how many parts of what. They have a good selection of beers and Kristina was very knowledgeable. For an app. we had the fried pickles. That's right. Fried pickles. I have never heard of such thing and was pleasantly surprised. However, I don't recommend them with the banana drink. Not a good combo. I had the Jambalaya. Although it needed more meat and less hot peppers, the flavor was spot on! Very clean and comfortable. I will be going back soon. read more

The $5 Grey Goose drinks is the best 'deal' in town... The service is hit or miss, and the food is too. I usually get haddock. Some days it seems like it is very mushy and slimy (previously frozen), other times, it tastes more fresh. My Dad likes the steak tips and burgers. My Husband feels the steak tips are either awesome or awful. He has enjoyed the chicken with zucchini noodles, chili, and burgers. We really like the corn bread, so don't skip it. read more

We've been going to The Loft since 2010- it's very relaxing, with decent food, and the $5.00 Grey Goose drinks can't be beat! Practically each time we head to the lower-level bar for attentive service and the low-key vibe. The $5.00 Grey Goose drinks are accompanied by homemade potato chips, cornbread and rolls. We mostly stick with their burgers and sandwiches that are tasty. Sometimes, we get the delicious New England clam chowder or French onion soup. Honestly, you can eat well at a decent value if you know what to order! Stick with the lower-priced items like burgers and sandwiches. In the past, we've ordered some expensive not so good entrees, and non Grey Goose drinks are pricey. read more

Some background; back in 1976 this place was called Joey's Red Barn, it was quite the bar -- then it was purchased and converted from a live music bar to a pub style restaurant. It was good, and was always busy, lunch, after work, dinnah... So, there were a couple of quirky things on the menu, the "Loft Burger" a good chunk of ground beef, with cheddar spread and a slice of ham. Damn good eats after some drinks, and then the Country Style ribs, which are to die for with this sort-of Chinese style sauce on them (OK they were marinated pork chops - so what!!). And the steak tips - just perfect. OK time has moved on - I live in CA now, I come back about twice a year, I always make it to the loft - just for the ribs (er, pork chops). I show up last weekend -- and what, the service is mediocre, the menu is all different and commercial, and there is NO LOFT BURGER OR COUNTRY STYLE RIBS!!! What is this I ask the server, he shrugs and says its not his fault -- no kidding... So a place that has consistently been 5 perhaps 6 stars, is now relegate to 2 and that's cuz the heat was on. New Ownership = Bad choices on this restaurant, its not what it was since 1977. read more

DH & I decided to try a new place and ended up here. Wish we had just gone to our regular spot. Downstairs the place is decorated old style with lots of wood and pictures and looked cozy. We were seated upstairs, which isn't as cozy, and at a tall table, not my favorite as I feel like my legs are just dangling off the chair and end up going to sleep. But according to the waitress, no other option was available. Waitress was attentive and very pleasant. DH ordered the Surf & Turf special that was haddock pie and a steak with baked pot & a corn casserole side. He said everything was ok and the while corn looked good, it wasn't very flavorful and very chewy. I ordered the Top Steak House Top Sirloin. Not a real fan of sirloin, prefer Rib Eye grilled, but they do not have it. The sirloin was the size of a filet and the comparison ends there. It was a hair past med rare, chewy, and had a weird metallic taste to it. I finished 1/2 before I decided, no more. It came with baked potato and steamed broccoli. The plate looked empty and the broccoli was bare, no seasoning of any kind and we each got 2 teeny tiny butter packets for our baked potatoes. I told the server to bring a lot more butter and we got a small bowl of 6 more butters. :/ We each got one drink and one beer and the bill came to $80 without tip. Overall, not a good experience, not worth the money, and won't be back. read more

Food was ok, prices were outrageous for the portions and quality. My husband ordered steak tips which only came with carrots, totally random choice in my opinion. So he changed to two veggie sides and was told that each would be a $2.50 upcharge. Um, ok? When the bill came the price increase was $15 and we were told we were charged for two additional sides. This isn't capital grille. A cup each of cauliflower and brussel sprouts in an aged, remote location is just craziness. We will never be back. read more

Drive by tasting... and so glad we did!! Excellent ambiance (aside from the initial lackluster greeting - or lack thereof - from the hostess), wonderful service and excellent food!! My husband ordered the Loft Steak Tips, cooked perfectly (and he orders med. rare which is a crapshoot for tips) and a great portion. The sides were fresh and delicious. And I had the Lobster Mac'n'Cheese with a side of the crock of brussel sprouts. OMG - yum!!! I couldn't even eat half of the mac'n'cheese... leftovers for lunch! We didn't have room for dessert, but we'll be back! read more
