I generously give 3 stars. I ordered the rigatoni with meatballs and ricotta cheese topped with Parmesan breadcrumbs. The dish came out ice cold, and the meatballs were like the crumbled ones you get as a topping on a pizza. After sending back my meal to heat up, it was returned hot and steamy. Taste was good, but where was the ricotta cheese, toasted bread crumbs and parsley?? Thank goodness for my server! He was super nice and accommodating. A real professional to solve my dilemma. I've waited a long time to write this review hoping that my opinion would change. Five years ago when I moved here The Loft was a restaurant to get excited about , but not at all now. The meals have gone so downhill. Last time I was there I tried the famous lobster mac and cheese that they brag about and the sauce was oily and the chunks of lobster were overcooked and dried up. They USED to have different types of mac&cheese to warm you up on a cold day (my favorite was the Tex-mex), they were rich and indulgent and crave-worthy, but those options have been removed from the menu. I've also ordered the Phantom's Favorite Sirloin- the meat was prepared the way I ordered it, but the gravy had a flavorless taste, and runny consistency, not any better than something you might find canned in a grocery store. During that same dinner , my dad had a baked potato side that came wrapped in tin foil... when he opened it up and cut it open it was cold, butter wouldn't even melt on it. The waitress seemed displeased when we mentioned it , then must have microwaved one to death out of spite because when she brought back the new one it was suspiciously & over-exaggeratedly steaming. Another try there , I ordered the Prime Dip sandwich , which used to be one of my favorites. The meat was so overcooked that I just couldn't eat it. I never complain about food at restaurants , I just typically make a mental note not to go there again, but someone with me convinced me to speak up since I'd had this same sandwich here many times before and it was so different this time . Management actually came to my table to see what the complaint was. They explained to me that the kitchen had a new idea to soak the roast beef slices in the hot au jus before putting it in the sandwich. Which is why the meat was all well-done instead of pink like it should have been. Which is how they ruined a great, classic sandwich. Service is not great lately (over the past couple of years) as well. I've had waitresses argue with me about the food I was ordering (also regarding a prime dip sandwich , I simply asked if the meat they were using was medium rare that day - and she told me no, probably not . It comes how it comes and its always cooked well-done, no requests can be made otherwise and she refused to check). Another one rolled her eyes at me when I requested a to-go box, because she had brought some already , but not enough for what we needed. I'll admit their clam chowder is great and the cornbread that they serve in the bread basket to snack on before the meal is some of the best I've ever had- perfect in flavor and always moist. The food was horrible! It was so bad I honestly don't know how they survive. Well, I do know. This is a BAR, not a restaurant and unfortunately they don't have good bar food. It's not even as good as a cafeteria but that's as close as I can get to describing it. We saw the new sign "constantly crafted" and thought it would be decent. Wrong! It's obvious they can't hire experienced kitchen help because everything was as low brow as you can imagine (even for a pub). We started with a wedge salad and it came with thick slices of unripened rock hard tomatoes (the kind that used to come in cellophane trays in the store) and overly thick slices of red onion. It looked like a a 5 year old plated it, too. It was really weird, to be honest. Then I had the meatloaf special with old tasting mashed potatoes smothered in gravy from a can and rock hard broccoli. It seemed like everything had been microwaved. And the plating was again really bad with everything lumped on one side of the plate. Either the person doesn't give a hoot or they don't know any better. Zero finesse. My husband had the steak tips (tough and flavorless) and his mashed potatoes came with a skin on them. Obviously they weren't fresh. We also got a beer each which was fine. $96 dollars later and we felt totally shafted. We noticed on the way out that nobody was eating dinner. The place was close to empty on Friday at lunch time, but it's not really somewhere you go on a lunch break. We ate downstairs which was... well.. lofty, but dark. 3/5 for decor and lighting. Bathrooms were clean, host and waitress were friendly. Average service speed. (Bread basket with cornbread is included!) The mixed drinks were large and priced fair. No glaring problems with the margarita or other seasonal pink drink. The food was large and better than anticipated. Us two ladies both had leftovers. So we got there very close to closing time. A party of 12! They weren't sure at first, checked with the kitchen and then said yes come on in. There was absolutely no animosity whatsoever that we were there so late. Our server Madison was as sweet and kind as can be. We didn't feel rushed at all. Food was fantastic and the cocktails were off the charts. I had probably the best pomegranate martini I've ever had. The sauce was watery, in that the entire meal was floating in it. The zoodles were decent enough, or rather, the only edible portion of the entree. The salmon was bland, no flavor at all. So after hearing about The Loft for a year straight on Phantom Gourmet, we could no longer resist the calling of this establishment. Maybe my expectations were really high, and I subconsciously wanted this to be a really great place, but I couldn't help leaving pretty satisfied, so the average of 3 stars kinda threw me a little. While the actual building and decor is nice, the atmosphere, and the customers surrounding us, took away from the experience. We were sitting in a booth, and on one side a group of four 50something women were discussing at length a) office affairs b) how drunk they wanted to get, and c) the fact that one of the women's vagina had "fallen out" - and on the other side was a man, whom upon receiving and tasting his meal, declared "I LIKE THIS" extremely loud and about 10 times. Really, guy? That being said, I have nothing but great things to say about the food. I got the chicken parm, which was humongous, cooked perfectly, and COVERED in cheese. Others in my party got the pot roast dinner, and the lobster mac and cheese, and both were praised. Overall, yeah, the menu is a bit pricey, but the real reason I wanted to come here was... The NOREASTER. Oh God, yes. Ever since I first saw this beast on Phantom Gourmet, I knew I had to have it. And at only $11.99, I could've eaten two. This thing was INSANE - mounds of brownies and cookies wedged underneath heaping piles of ice cream and whipped cream with caramel and raspberry syrup all over the place. My wife and I ate at the bar Sunday night. The lady bartender was pleasant but she didn't know ANYTHING on the menu or what types of vodka they had. My wife asked for Tito's vodka. After an exhaustive 5 minute search she decided they did not have it. My wife said it was ok and then asked for Absolute vodka: once again a 5 minute search, but this time she found it. Everything we ordered required US to show her the menu item and read the description. Total confusion is the only way to describe it. The Loft is a favorite in town, mostly older couples and families. Their menu consists of many American favorites, burgers, American chop suey, steaks, and it's all fine. Nothing special really, just regular food. The building it's in looks like an old barn with a grain silo attached, different, but on the down side, there are no windows, so it's very dark inside. I'll update my review soon though, one of my friends is getting married this summer and her mom is throwing her bridal shower here. They have a large room in back that they use for extra seating when needed and it can also be used for functions. I'll let you know how the food/service goes at the shower. But for now, it's good food, moderately priced, I'd recommend it. read more

We're pretty certain this visit is our last. Their hostess station always seems to be staffed with young people who are waiting for direction. They always seem to have to ask another host (who is always somewhere else in the restaurant) before they can decide where to seat you. Unless you ask (and it seems like you have to have a good reason) to sit on the 1st floor, they always want to seat you upstairs. Well ...we couldn't do that due to a party with a bad hip and the only way up is via stairs. They didn't seem overly thrilled to seat us on the 1st level though the lower level wasn't even full. I arrived a bit before the hubby so ordered tap water from our waitress. Then upon his arrival, we sat for about 10-15 minutes without our waitress or anyone acknowledging that we had both arrived and were ready to order. My hubby flagged a man who may have been a manager and he came right over to take our orders: the spinach & mushroom salad special and the fried haddock. My husband asked for a side salad before his meal to which he replied "no problem" and walked away. Then our waitress arrived about another 5 minutes later to ask if we were ready to order and we told her we had already ordered. Complimentary hot rolls and room temp. Corn bread was served with whipped butter. The side salad arrived shortly. When our dinner arrived by another server, the fried haddock (two pieces about the size of a deck of card) was served on an oblong plate with a slide of lemon and a container of tartar sauce but nothing else ... no cole slaw, fries or garnish and I couldn't tell if my salad had dressing. My husband immediately asked if the cole slaw and fries were coming and this server (very young) nervously said I think I can bring you some. A few minutes later the man who looked like the manager came over and my husband asked if his normally came with cole slaw and fries and he replied "oh, I thought you wanted the side salad instead". Well ... he never clarified that when he took the order that it would be replacing the other sides. And ... we determined my salad didn't have any dressing so he said he would make sure all were coming. Then our waitress stopped by and we repeated everything to her and she said "let me go check". The young nervous server returned with the cole slaw and fries and as he put the fries down, his thumb went right in to our butter. He left the butter on our table and never even thought he should ask if he should bring a fresh butter back??? It took another 5 minutes for my salad dressing to arrive. The haddock looked like frozen fish filets and the fries were cold. The cole slaw was served in a tiny ceramic dish that looked like what condiments would be served in. Definitely 0 stars for presentation. My salad was meh ... standard baby spinach, the sliced mushrooms looked like they had been sliced a few days ago, grape tomatoes, blue cheese crumbles and chopped egg. The house dressing (a sweet onion dressing) is always good. Our server was friendly but her timing was way off, the man who appeared to be a manager looked overwhelmed and the young server looked very nervous and new. As we were leaving, the lobby was filled with patrons waiting for tables....not sure what the attraction is but I think we've given this place many chances, this is the last. read more

I want to give this place 5 stars, but I just can't. Don't get me wrong, great food here. I had the small cup of clam chowder and the reuben. The chowder was good but the Reuben was better. It has high quality corned beef with equally tasteful sauerkraut and Russian dressing. There is always a good and respectful crowd here. The place has a very good reputation. The service is excellent. And the prices are on the higher end but it ain't going to break the bank. A lot of five star potential here. The reason why I can't give it five stars. People are not happy with getting rid of grey goose for vodka and substituting Tito's. Also, it is hard to get upstairs if you have a large party because other people are taking their time. Parking is good but a little cramped. They portray themselves as an irish people, but it is not exactly the most irish pub I have seen. I am not saying it isn't, I'm just not saying it is. I would like to try the Mayflower draft next time I go here, but I think they should update their beer selection and liquor selection. But I will be back some time. The hospitality of this place was great. The service was very good and friendly. I went into this place not too hungry, so I wasn't gonna too excited to eat, but all of our food turned out delicious. I ordered the Big Bang Burger, and my friend ordered the Cobb salad. I really enjoyed my burger, but my friend was not pleased with her salad. TakeOut order placed at 2:45 pm (we live 10 mins away) Arrival 3:15pm. - Host was pleasant and nice and courteous she noticed that one of our items a cup of chili was not in the bag went back to the kitchen and got us a cup of chili for the order. We paid roughly $76 for two entrées and dessert and a cup of chili. Upon getting home one of the entrées was prepared in correctly and the dessert was missing. We then drove back to the loft where they were going to make a new dessert and correct the entrée. This however was a fiasco. The dessert was made twice because the ice cream melted while we waited for a steak entrée to be remade and when we asked for the manager to discuss the situation we were then told the manager is nowhere to be found nothing else can be done. 4:30 PM. I grew up in Lawrence and have been a constant customer since I was little. I took my girlfriend there on Father's Day who's from Italy and brought my kids and was embarrassed I bragged about this restaurant for so long. Not that any customer deserves anything less than 100% service but if It's Father's Day and I'm ordering lobster pie and drinks you think my server would be on it. The manager was great and brought our waters when "she" forgot. She seemed on some drugs or drunk when she came back 25 mins later to confirm our order then quickly typed it in the computer. Lastly, the runner brought our food to us. I didn't complain at all but said she didn't charge my vodkas because she knew she was totally out of it. Okay went in 2-13-2012 for my bday. I did not expect all that much attention cause I had been celebrating it all weekend. Unfortunately I felt like the waiter almost avoided my, alright that may be an exageration but not much. The fact that I asked for bread and did not get it until I had cleared my plate has to say something. Anyway I saw the manager on the way out and told him of my experience. This was a good restaurant for what it is; American food. Four of us went here for a casual dinner and ordered nachos and the poutine for appetizers. No complaints here! For dinner, three of us ordered the prime rib special, nothing special, but it was good. From what I remember this was $26 which is not expensive for prime rib, just don't think it was the best quality. A chicken sandwich was also ordered and he loved it. Wish I had gone with the burger! Regarding cocktails, I ordered an Old Fashioned and feel that the bartender did not know how to make this classic drink. I personally use to call the loft my favorite restaurant, but after the altercation that took place Friday 9/24/21.. I will never be back to this place. It was my friend and her girlfriend's 25th birthday and we made a reservation for 4 at 7:30, and our server was the most disrespectful embarrassment to the restaurant industry, even though he seems to think being a bartender and servsafe certified is his biggest accomplishment in life.. kind of pathetic. I wish I had gotten his name so I could add that to this review. But basically he denied my friend a drink because her ID was "fake". It wasn't fake at all, it wasn't even expired. We got sat and there were two male servers in our section upstairs near the fire place. Not sure if they were doing sections or rotating, but one of the male servers who had a beard was super kind and came to see if anyone had come to us after 10 minutes of waiting, I stated no, and he had the other taller, older and much more sassy male server come and greet us. Right off the bat our server had an attitude. Which I understand getting weeded on an understaffed and busy Friday night as a former server and bartender myself. I'm 25 and decided to order a water because my boyfriend was on the way and he had my purse that also had my ID, and I always get carded. My two girl friends both ordered alcoholic drinks, and the waiter took the birthday girl's MA ID and was inspecting it as if he was a police officer crashing an underaged party. Mind you, as a server myself, out of curtesy I typically say happy birthday to my guests after checking the birthdate if I can remember, and especially considering he literally scanned every inch of her ID you'd think he would say something. Whatever though. That's not the worst part. Then he took my 24 year old friends NH ID, and again inspected it, holding it up to the light and checking the holograms.. the whole nine yards. Immediately he was like "I'm not serving you." In a very disgusted tone, as if my legally aged friend was trying to pull a fast one on him.. and mind you it was a legitimate ID. Then my friend asked why she couldn't be served, and he stated because that's not a real NH ID. And I immediately told him yes it is, shes 24 born in 1997... it's a literal and legitimate ID. Then we started checking her wallet for another legitimate document showing her full name and date of birth. He offered to have his manager check, when he came back he was like yep not a real ID. Then he start boasting and bragging about the fact that he's a bartender and servsafe alcohol certified and that he knows a fake ID when he sees one... apparently not. My friend who's ID he checked and I have both been servers and worked in bars, and are also servsafe alcohol certified. So I was absolutely baffled at the fact that he was bragging about that.. not going to lie I genuinely had second hand embarrassment because that was his biggest flex in life. I told him he should really brush up on his bartender judgement skills he's so proud of because my friend had a legitimate NH ID. We found her covid vaccination card, which though is not a valid form of ID, is a legitimate legal document showing her full name and date of birth. He rejected it because it's not a valid form of ID. Upon leaving, the other male server with the beard asked what happened (I was about to have an anxiety attack because the other server was so rude and thought he was better than everyone), and I told him about everything and he was offering things we could do. I cannot stress enough how kind the other male server with the beard was and I wish we had gotten him as our server instead of his taller older un-bearded co-worker, because he would've gotten a PHAT tip. It's unfathomable to me that The Loft allows some of their staff to act in such a manner. That is NO way to treat guests. We tried speaking with the manager, but again I understand it was a busy Friday night and he seemed flustered so we left. But he didn't seem too concerned that we had a complaint. Also I give a lot of credit to the host, she was the only one there doing take out and seating for the WHOLE restaurant.. And was very kind. But yeah definitely won't be back, I will not let my people or myself be treated like that by an incompetent, ignorant and arrogant imbecile who gaslights the people who pay his bills. We decided to be seated downstairs. Even though they were clearly busy, we were given a table right away. The wheels started to turn in my head .... Yes, we are off to a good start! Our server came by within minutes with food and drink menus. We waisted no time & ordered our drinks right away. Then took our time.perusing the menu. I don't recall how much time went by. Maybe 10 minutes if that before our drinks came to the table. And they looked inviting. I had ordered a basic Dirty Martini. My companion ordered Tito's chilled, straight up. I must comment that at he Loft, although they pour a basic legal amount, they never scrimp. If they are using Tito's , you get Titos. Your drinks will never taste watered down like at other establishments. You always get the real deal which could be part of the reason why the lot is always full? As for the food..... Welllllll.... Each & every time I've been there it's never called me. To me it's mediocre.. nothing special. This particular evening I ordered a small Caesar salad and my dining companion a basic burger. The salad was VERY basic - no frills. But fresh & crispy. The burger was eaten....( Hahaha) rather quickly. Apparently he was quite hungry. So I'm guessing it was good. I ordered a cheeseburger cooked medium and what I got was a raw piece of meat. Sent it back. It came back totally overcooked-- the meat was gray. The fries were soggy and limp. Went here and asked for the burger to be cooked, done, well, just no blood. The burger was sent back 2 times until we said forget it. Lobster Mac & Cheese was not impressive and certainly not worth the price. Just not a fan of the loft. Parking lot appears busy, as I am sure the bar does a good business, hard not to screw up drinks. Although having been to the bar a few times, the woman bartender is not that friendly or happy looking. So not a place I would chose to have a cocktail after work either. read more

Probably one of my favorite places to eat in Massachusetts. The Loft has a cozy setting. It's the kind of place you would want to go on a cold winter night. The menu is mostly comfort food and everything I have tried here has been decent to delicious. The beer selection is solid, but not spectacular. There's usually enough interesting selections to last you through a meal though. I have personally never had a problem with the service here. It does get busy at peak times, so be aware that you might have trouble getting seated quickly around dinner, weekends, and holidays. If you get take out, make sure you check it before you leave. For the second time, once I got home they messed up order but charged me for the right order. Missing lot of food. Did not make it right when called. read more
