I've been to The Loop on Washington Ave many times but this was my first time at the West End location. I was not disappointed. The Buffalo Chicken Wontons were amazing! I really enjoyed the Seared Ahi Tuna and the gnocchi was great. The portions are huge! I went with a large group of people and our waitress let us split the tab 6 ways which I really appreciated. This place was pretty great!! Overall great relaxed bar scene, food, drinks, and service! It was a pretty warm day so we sat inside. The lighting inside was a little on the dark side but I liked it. There were plenty of tables and booths to sit in besides the large bar. We ordered a couple beers and margaritas. Our server was nice and gave us our space when needed but also very accommodating. I ordered the chicken strips and fries and they were beer battered which I really liked! I have never had beer battered chicken strips before. The fries were a garlic flavor as well. My friend ordered the chicken mac n cheese and it was tasty as well! It had a pretty strong kick to it but we like spicy so that was alright. Will be coming back again. read more

I work in an office building near West End so I frequent the restaurants over there. They are all mediocre suburban places. Nothing out of the ordinary. The Loop is no exception. It is a bit pricey for the food but I think it is trying to promote a more upscale vibe. I have had many things on their menu. None of it is great, it is all very average. My primary objection is that I couldn't talk to my friend because the Vikings game was so loud. I said something to the server about it twice. I felt very uncomfortable doing that. The second time, she said, "A lot of people are here to watch the Vikings game." I don't understand why that would require the volume of the game to be painfully loud. The restaurant isn't marketed as a sports bar. If it had been, we would not have gone. I finally told the server I would never come back to the restaurant. Sometime after that, the volume was indeed noticeably turned down. Maybe other guests felt the same way I did and got the message conveyed. The food (pancakes and coffee) was lackluster. If I could give half stars, it would be 3.5 stars. I've been to the other Loop in the north loop, but only for drinks, not food. Came in here for HH drinks with a girlfriend before book club. It was a gorgeous day and we were able to get a great table outside, but in the shade. Our server was great, knew a lot about the menu. I harassed her about the menu, asking a thousand questions like I usually do before settling on the mahi mahi. My girlfriend got calamari, and we both got wine. My fish was dry and not very flavorful, but the carrots and peppers it came with were great. The sauce was boring, and the egg roll was a little weird, very salty. Visited this location for lunch today and brought a friend who had never been. We went early for lunch and were seated right away. The server didn't seem to be interested in being very helpful. After we received our food she never came back to check on us or ask us how the food was or if there was anything else we needed. (Keeping in mind she visited all the booths and tables around us more then three times a piece. Ours, ZERO. When we were finished I asked for a box to go. She did offer to put my food in the box and I said yes, thanks. When you look in the box the food was just dumped in upside down. No care taken there. When she came with our checks was the first time she offered to fill my soda. I just said no. This was my second time to visit and I would return again because the food is good. so my husband ended up getting a gift card from his work to this place.. we both have checked over the menu many times and nothing seemed too interesting.. even the pix on yelp didn't do any good and the reviews weren't all that great.. because of that, my husband really wanted to order takeout but i told him that while we're around the area, we might as well eat in and get a feel for this place.. we had made dinner reservations a few days before coming in.. it was friday evening during rush hour.. the place was packed but we got seated right away in a nice booth.. the bar area is huge! there were people sitting and standing around the bar area.. there were a ton of tv hanging allover so it was very much of a sports bar although the decor was a lot nicer than i expected.. the restrooms were pretty nice also.. there is even an attendant in the men's restroom! we were given water shortly after being seat.. our waitress had asked if we were ready to order a few minutes after.. we had ordered appetizer first.. the spinach and crab dip.. wow.. was it hot and good! it has a very light taste.. i would've liked more salt but didn't add any which is surprising.. i decided to eat it the way it was.. the pita bread that came with it was so soft.. it was definitely fulfilling.. i was deciding between two things.. the smoked beef short rib or the blackened chicken and avocado melt.. i panicked ordered the blackened chicken and avocado melt since i was leaning more towards trying the garlic mayo anyways.. and boy, was i a happy camper! it was everything i imagined it to taste like.. i couldn't stop raving about how good it was.. i made a smart decision and had asked for extra garlic mayo.. the sandwich was ooey, gooey and was packed with so much flavor! the grilled sourdough was so buttery and not too bready.. it was so messy to eat but so worth it.. i'm not one to lick my fingers and i certainly did that evening.. the garlic mayo just oozed out the sandwich so i dipped my fries into that.. that pickle complimented it nicely! just absolutely fantastic! my husband had the grilled flat iron steak medium rare.. it came out medium but still tasted great! he absolutely loved it.. i've been having a tough time eating meat but when i tried a few bites of his steak, it was really tender! the portion was great for that price.. we ended up ordering the chocolate chippers.. it tastes just like the chocolate cookies i make at home except i don't underbake the cookies as much as this place.. but it reminded me so much of home/baking as i haven't done that in awhile.. i did find the whipped cream to be super sweet on top of the ice cream.. the ice cream was rock solid.. i thought the bowl was going to go flying if i pushed down any harder to scoop the ice cream.. i'm guessing the ice cream was scooped into the bowl and then frozen after to make it easier when the time came? the ice cream had good flavor.. i just didn't like the whipped cream as it was too much.. i actually mistaken the whip for the ice cream.. i ended up having leftovers and ate it the following day.. boy, was it still as delicious as it was when eating it at the restaurant.. i can't wait to come back!! read more

The food is great. I ate here tonight and had a weird experience. Went to the restroom - I was the only person in it. There was a restroom attendant but he wasn't in there - I did my business and left. The attendant saw me come out of the restroom and followed me to my table. He just stood there. So I said hello. He asked me if I took any candy from the bathroom. I said no. He kept looking at me and looking at my pockets. I showed him that all I had was lip balm. I tried this place out on Friday to celebrate my birthday with a friend. They have a really great happy hour that lasts until 6:30 which is awesome. They have $4 house wine, half off pizzas and $3 off apps. We tried the pot roast quesadilla and the blackened quinoa salad. The quesadilla was great, I'd order that again. The salad was just okay. Not very much chicken and they sliced up raw jalapeno peppers which I did not enjoy. It just burned your mouth and the only flavor you got was hot. I would skip The Loop for brunch. Other meals it s great, but eggs, hash browns and hollandaise seem to befuddle the kitchen. I will admit hash browns make or break brunch for me and The Loop has about the worse hash browns in the Twin Cities -- mushy, not crispy, and tasteless. The second time I was there I even asked them to prepare them extra crispy to see if that would help. Nope. My wife struggled with their gelatinous hollandaise while I struggled with the velvetta like cheese sauce on the chilaquiles. Good addition to the west end. Fits great price wise with the other restaurants and fills a niche with it's more casual setting and bar food menu that's been lacking from the area. All that said, I wish everything else matched up. The food was beautiful, we ordered the juicy loopy and the sesame crusted tuna sandwich, but looks can be deceiving. The food was a solid B-, wouldn't be disappointed to eat there again but probably wont seek it out either. The tuna sandwich was markedly better than the juicy loopy. The crust on the tuna was great and well balanced and the steak was cooked as ordered but there was nothing unique or exciting about the sandwich. The burger on the other hand was disappointing. When the french fries outshine a juicy lucy, something isn't right. The main problem was not being able to find any cheese inside the burger (WTF) which is the entire reason to order it in the first place. The fries had a garlic and rosemary seasoning that was delicious. The service was frustrating, I would be willing to go back if I was heading to the west end since the food was good but not great and try something different on the menu. The service might keep me from giving the Loop that second chance. Our waitress was MIA after we ordered, and I ended up waiting for close to 10 minutes to get mustard from the runner when our food was delivered. It would've been nice if our server stopped by to check on our food before we had finished eating, we couldn't even find her to flag her down and ask for anything. All in all the loop is alright, a good place to gather before or after a movie with a great bar and a good tap list. Very friendly staff here. I stayed in Minneapolis for 10 days and found myself back here more than a few times. The menu is extensive and the lunch/dinner options are fantastic. The short rib is fantastic! Service was a bit slow at times, but let's be real, it wasn't anything worth getting upset about. I really enjoy sitting out on the patio in the nice weather and having a cocktail at The Loop. The patio is really nice, large, and has the afternoon sun. They have full service with food and drinks (full bar). If you want to go inside, they have a large bar, nice seating with booths and tables, and a nice, clean restaurant. The West End shopping mall has valet parking, and the valet stand is right out front, so if you want to zoom in, valet, and walk in like a rock star, you can do it! The Loop has a great menu (try the steak sandwich or the grilled cheese with bacon!) of interesting dishes and comfort food. Soups, salads, pizzas and sandwiches complete this good menu of fresh food! The bartenders and servers are great, the service is really good, and everyone seems to have a good time here. It can get busy at Happy Hour and after work, so plan accordingly...but a really nice place to visit, especially in the summer on the patio! read more

This is a very good place to eat. We had two meals here this week and have been to the loop about 10 times. Wednesday we had fish tacos and Mac and cheese both these dishes are great. The fish tacos is three ample pieces of Cod fried perfectly. Mac and cheese is in a white cheese sauce simple and great it's not baked it's made to order. Today we had brunch it was very good. I had the Cajun Benedict which was eggs pimento cheese and hollandaise with andouille sausage and hash browns. The brunch was tasty. The GM sat us down and got us drinks. What a nice guy, this was followed up by service from waitress Rocky she was really great too. Overall a nice place to have brunch or any early dinner. I'm not sure how it is later at night but looks like a 20 somethings crowd more of a bar vibe at night. This place is a great choice.
