The Lowry was an unexpected surprise for a great evening. I had never been there before until I went with a small group of 6-7 or so to celebrate a friend's birthday. Our waiter was friendly and was great to banter with. He provided great input to the menu and specials! I had the chicken tender melt and fries. Both were delicious! I realize it's hard to "mess up" a chicken tender sandwich, but the jalapeno mustard had a nice kick to it! Great Bloody Mary's! This is a great Sunday brunch place and its obvious since its crowded the minute you walk in and hard to find parking. We called ahead since they don't take reservations and still had to wait 20 minutes for a table. The Ranchero was recommended by the waiter and did not disappoint. I started coming to The Lowry shortly after it opened. This was my worst experience. Service was non-existent. The walleye was dry and freezer burnt. I sat at the bar and felt invisible. Came in for breakfast on a weekday and there was plenty of seating available. I ordered the chilaquiles ($13) and we ordered pancakes to share (there were 3 pancakes). The chilaquiles were amazing! There portion was very generous and the entree was packed with SO much flavor. The chorizo was perfectly seasoned, tortilla strips had a crunch, and there was a little kick to it! There's a sour cream sauce on top which is so good mixed in. I would definitely order these again. My husband and I dined at The Lowry this evening and we returned because we had other visits where we had a great experience. Tonight was definitely not the case. We sat down and our server took our drink orders. We asked for straws and he completely forgot to bring them. I had to ask again when he stopped and started complimenting us on our colognes. He then took our food orders. My husband ordered the stroganoff and I ordered the chicken piccata. When the food came out, both dishes were not hot. We waited for the server to come back and he promptly took them back. After about 5 minutes, he brought them back. Mine was warmer but my husband's dish was not hot at all. The server checked in again and we said my husband's dish was still not hot, to which the server went on the defense and said "it was hot when I brought it out to you." That was an immediate turn off for us. The server said he would have it reheated or remade. My husband immediately refused because he knew it wasn't going to come out right. A couple things really didn't go well for us tonight. The server didn't call a manager to the table and tried to fix the issue himself. He was getting defensive when we explained the food was not hot. He said they would make new dishes, they were not new dishes. We really though this was going to be a good place to eat based on our previous visits here. We ended up having to get my husband McDonalds because he was so fed up with not getting hot food from a restaurant that is not inexpensive to dine at. We are disappointed. It's not a grimy bar - rather, they have cozy furnishings, secluded tables and booths, and an overall relaxing vibe. The servers were friendly, though I was a bit disappointed they wouldn't let me get certain items to-go. After striking out on my initial request, I instead ordered the steak and pierogis and the spicy green beans. The green beans were quite good - well-seasoned with a nice savory, spicy, and slightly sweet glaze. The steak and pierogis were just ok. The quantity of food for both dishes was a bit lower vs what I would've expected, too. On the whole, I'd categorize The Lowry as something like a local, slightly upscale Applebee's. My husband Matt B. and I met up with our friend Tomas L. while we were all in town for a wedding in St. Paul. It was the first time in Minnesota for all three of us, and we wanted to explore a bit while we were in the Twin Cities. We ended up driving through Uptown and stopped in at The Lowry for lunch. The Yelp reviews seemed positive enough, but we had no special expectations. As it turned out, we lucked into a fantastic meal. The place was almost empty when we arrived, at around 1:00 on a Friday. (Coming from Los Angeles and New York, we were awed by the ample free parking lot.) We were seated right away in a big, comfortable booth by a huge window that let in plenty of natural light. Service was friendly, attentive, and helpful. Really not a thing to complain about. I had a Bloody Mary with my lunch, and this was excellent, spicy and flavorful, garnished with a skewer of pickle, olive, and a cube of cheese studded with chive. It came with a refreshing beer chaser. A great start to my weekend of drinking in Minnesota. The food was equally good. Tomas and I shared an order of the cheese curds, and they were delicious. The size and lovely warm golden color of tater tots, they were crispy on the outside, gooey and creamy on the inside, with just the right elastic cheesy bite. The cheese curds were flavored with jalapeño then served with an outstanding savory blueberry ketchup. They were great fresh, and still great after sitting on our table for a while. For my entree, I got the chilaquiles on our server's recommendation. These were some of the best chilaquiles I've ever had, every flavor and texture just perfectly on point. The tortilla strips came smothered in chorizo, black beans, peppers, hash browns, and pico de gallo. Two eggs came on top--I got mine lightly poached, and the golden yolk dripped down to join the glorious chilaquiles jumble--along with a crumble of cheese and a drizzle of peppery crema. Tomas got the sweet potato hash, and this was good, though we agreed the chilaquiles were better. It came with onion, pepper, sausage, eggs, jalapeños, guacamole, and toast. Matt is a man of simpler tastes, and was quite happy with his waffle with a side of bacon. This was an enormously satisfying meal. The setting was calm and pleasant, the service excellent, and everything I tasted just about knocked my socks off (though full disclosure, I wasn't wearing socks). I live quite far from The Lowry and am unlikely to be in the neighborhood again for a while, but I'm glad we dropped in for lunch. Consistently this is the most sub-mediocre dining experience in MSP. I moved to the neighborhood about a year ago and have been here 10-12 times and every time I say I'm never coming back. Staff hustles hard and menu appears to be well designed. They're always ridiculously short staffed (even by COVID standards) and don't train their bar backs/bussers to engage with customers Which means you're getting checked in about once every 15 Min. I don't think frontline staff is the issue, this is a poorly managed restaurant by a group that's trying to cash in on its cash cow. You'll get better quality and service from a frozen pizza in your oven with a timer and it'll cost you 5x less. read more

The meat was tender and flavorful, with peppers, caramelized onion, crispy chips, and a wonderful sauce. I ordered my eggs over easy but got scrambled instead, but the wait was so long that I didn't send it back. Still, it was stunning. The chicken was over fried and quite dry, but the gravy and the waffle were good. Service was extremely slow. 20 minute wait for food, 20 minutes for them to give us and pick up the check. Great all around restaurant to bring friends and family. I've had both brunch and dinner here and were very much pleased both times by the food and service. Their bloody marys are perfection here with their great blend of seasonings, alcohol, and fixings (that jalapeno cheese cube... yasss). I'm keto/low carb and they were able to substitute the hashbrowns and toast with a delicious side salad with no extra charge alongside my Denver frittata which was also full of cheesy goodness. The server was great at handling our large group. Very friendly, efficient service. I have heard about this place and have seen the huge lines of people waiting to be seated. The parking lot here seems to be crowded a lot. I called an hour before and they added me to the list. On top of that I wasn't aware that it was also a yelp waiting list that I could check in to see where we were on the waiting list. OMG! It was awesome. When we go there, we were seated within 5 minutes. The downside was that parking was not fun. Darn. It's the price to pay for this place. I will say this. Brunch was yummy. I am looking forward to coming back. My friend got the biscuits and gravy and she loved it. My other friend got eggs and toast. My bf and I split the chickens and waffles. They're hash browns at brunch are delicious, as well as their French toast. I've also come for a late dinner once and I really dug their fish tacos. Very filling. Service: excellent. Efficient, friendly, accurate. Atmosphere: a diner with booths and a lounges vibe, but cool, modern decor. Visited right after an afternoon Lynx game at around 5pm. When we entered we were promptly greated and asked if wanted to ait inside or outside, we chose the patio since it was a nice day. Started with drinks, chocolate milk for the kiddo, a hard cider for me and a sour for the misses. We then asked our waitress what she would recommend for first time visitors, she gave us a number of items of which we did end up ordering two off. For the kiddo, macaroni and cheese which fortunately is not kraft, comes with a nice accompaniment of cheese bread, carrots, and a cookie. I had the fish tacos after confirming they would have some spice, comes with three generous three size tacos. The fish and sauce play nice together. The misses had the steak and pierogies which came with good portions of both. Steak was a tad overdone for medium but still nice and tender. The pierogies were decent sized. For dessert we had chocolate mousse cake and butterscotch pudding. The chocolate mousse cake comes with ice cream and whipped cream, the wait staff live to pour the chocolate sauce nicely over the dessert. The butterscotch pudding was flavorful and smooth.
